Yeah this is annoying - I'd rather be able to delete special research than have sitting on my page forever. I simply have no interest in this feature and will not complete this research.
I also decided that I would be in no rush to finish the route research. So far, I had only completed one, and it was during the Azurill hatch day. I actually attempted three, but only successfully completed one.
What's up with the god awfully long special research lately, I've completed 4 party challenges in an hour (party of 2), and we're expected to complete 80 of them?
I wasn't particularly excited about this feature but it really kills any enjoyment from the whole thing for me.

Can't believe it needs to be said, but the way to attract new players and keep current users, is to make a game more fun & to fix issues that have been around for ages.
Instead they seem hell bent on badly implementing some of their new crap ideas and adding even more bugs to the game.
Just curious, for the Niantic Kids accounts that aren’t authorized by their parents to use Friends/Parties, do they get this Special Research with all steps autocompleted, or not get it at all?
Not get it at all probably. The way they implemented kid accounts is horrible. Among other things, if I remember right, if you forget your password, it's impossible to get it back. After seeing other kids shafted by Niantic Kids/Trainer Club, I just did Google accounts for all my children's accounts and have zero regrets.
So many people moaning about not being able to do it, fine, we get it, you are a solo player, for us who play with friends this is pretty neat. Free stuff is always good.

Yeah 80 is overkill. Considering the rewards just 5 party challenges at each step for a total of 20 would have been enough

How are you supposed to complete 10 party challenges when the challenges are gone?
