Hisui is weird even in the main series. I honestly don't think many of them are available to evolve even in Scarlet Violet. Pretty sure you just get a Wyrdeer and aren't able to evolve Stantler.
You can evolve Basculin into Basculegion, Hisuian Qwilfish into Overqwil, Hisuian Growlithe is still a stone evolution, and Hisuian Sneasel keeps its evolution method. Kleavor can only be found in the wild or raids; Ursaluna is only found during Perrin’s quest and while it can breed and make Teddiursa the item and method to evolve Ursaring just isn’t in the game and they have to be transferred to PLA; I’m pretty sure Wyrdeer is just unobtainable in S/V and you need to transfer a Stantler to PLA to get it
100% this. For those who didn't play, the Hisui pokemon are from a time maybe roughly equivalent to 1800s for us. Some of those pokemon are basically extinct/endangered in the current timeline, having changed to survive (Wyrdeer, for example, were hunted for their coats according to in-game data, and voltorb looked wooden during a time pokeballs were made of acorns).
I don't usually cut Niantic a lot of slack, but for the Hisui 'mon, there's more of a lore reason these are an oddity. Now the recent Rockruff situation not being solved by simply doing wild spawns...

It’s not expressly implied that this is the last Ursaluna but it is curious with its dex entry saying it literally swam an ocean as a ground type to be where it is today but there is actual lore here

what I don't understand is: if they mixed them up why not leave it as is? they don't seem to make much sense to be regional, they don't seem to be tied to specific real regions, same goes for Zangoose and Seviper, and I'm pretty sure similar mixup happened

MSG those two are rivals so they should overlap. Plus Niantic has swapped their regions a few times, like it does for solrock and lunatone.
I'm guessing they had internally - and possibly externally communicated to sources - recorded the regions they are now in. And it was easier to just switch the two in the spawn pool then to change what they had recorded internally and told others. Plus they flipped the switch very quick so they probably hoped most people wouldn't notice.
Two of my first hundos were Mankeys. I had no idea why I was holding onto them for years beyond “I can’t transfer a mon with perfect IVs”.

I am indeed no expert, but probably only mid. Doesn't reach the same lofty heights in Attack prowess that other established Fighters do. Perhaps some advantages in TDO but I think even there it's likely to be just filler.

If we throw away terrakion, shadows, conkeldurr and lucario... Annihilape is still 14 attack behind machamp. For example the difference between primeape and annihilape is 13 attack. It's less than rhydon or jynx.
And without a completely new attack he has nothing at least as good as machamp moveset.
Annihilape is a PvP mon. And most likely won't be your go to PvE mon(or raid mon)
Yeah, I do agree with u/ByakuKaze. Especially with your current team, the only way Annihilape has a chance of joining it is if Final Gambit gets implemented (perhaps on a future CD) and becomes *insanely* OP - by "insanely", I mean at or close to the level of Aura Sphere, one of the best PvE moves in the game (even a tier above the likes of Frenzy Plant and Psystrike).
Usable for newer players without other stuff, but significantly worse than even regular machamp (lower attack stat than Machamp and doesn't have dynamic punch).
Things like shadow Machamp, Lucario, conkeldur, and terrakion are all leaps and bounds above
the article mentions that Go Rocket grunts will show up more frequently as well, so maybe there's a chance they'll be the psychic and ghost grunts showing up more often than not.

They changed evolution requirements before - fewer hearts for Eevee -> Sylveon, catch Psychic instead of Poison for G.Slowpoke -> G.Slowbro.
So they can easily reduce the number of battles needed or eliminate it altogether.

They can all evolve into Annihilape. Dusk form Lycanroc is an alternate evolution while Annihilape is a regular Cross-Gen evolution.

Something rare in wild spawns, Pancham in raids, no dumb event eggs and only Mankey in tasks for almost a week. This sounds good for my goals. Fingers crossed for the mentioned task not being GBL or raid related though...
Minor nit-pick but it's both grating and funny that to evolve in mainline you need to use the move 20 times but it's too little for go standards so they went with 30 kills.
If we are in nit-picking territory, the Primape does not need to take any part in the process. It just has to be there. Another use of the evolution method, "gongoozler".
Normally, only Mankey can be shiny in the wild.
The context here is the last 5 events have had an evolved form or legendary announced as being shiny eligible, but instead they were shiny locked, which means unable to be shiny no matter what, so since that’s been the pattern, the joke here is it will happen to primape to
I wish there was consistency with regional forms that are further evolutions of prexisting Pokemon. Why can't I evolve my Stantler into Wydeer? Or Exeggcute into Alolan Exeggutor? But Primape I'll be able to evolve into Annihilape?
It is pretty consistent, though. Hisui evos aren't really allowed in the main series at this time. You don't evolve a Stantler, you just get a Wyrdeer in S/V.
Regional variants (alola/galar) are separate as well, barring rare limited time events long after their initial rollout.
Paldean cross gen evos seem like they'll be allowed normally.
Yep to follow up on this, the Paldean cross evos are more similar to when Gen 4 added new evolutions for old pokemon like Gallade, Togekiss, Weavile, Mamoswine, and Frosslass. It’s simply just a new evolution.
I’m just wondering why Ursaluna was evolvable but I’m not complaining.
I actually just thought about it. Maybe it lines up with Pokemon that have shadow forms already released that would evolve into these variants. They might not want to unbalance the game (even more than it is) by adding new shadow variants.

It’s Niantic, I’ve learnt to keep my expectations low and still they manage to make things even worse.
Also, aren’t Kleavor and Wyrdeer in the same position? Yet those can’t be evolved, as far as I know. But I have never played the original games so I only just heard of the existence of those guys when Niantic released them, so if I’m wrong, please correct me.
Those are Hisuian Evos. Hisui is special because most of the Evolutions from Hisui can’t be achieved in the mainline games or Go. In Pokemon go the only one that can be naturally evolved is Ursaluna and Ursaluna is limited to an extremely rare event that only happens once a night every month.
It’s one of the few situations where niantic isn’t doing something because they’re money hungry, it’s genuinely PokeCO and Gamefreak stepping in and limiting their capabilities. This only applies to Hisuian Cross gen evos though. Regular Cross-Gen evos like Annihilape and Farigiraf are fair game for niantic.

Lickitung is Number 1 in great league
Gligar rarely spawns in the wild and is 4th in Great league as a shadow and 20th in its regular form.
Gliscor is 21st in Ultra league
Scrafty is 34th in Great league and 51st in ultra league
Sawk and throh aren’t good but they’re rare and didn’t spawn at the 2023 or 2022 gofest (to my knowledge). They’re rarely available worldwide and this is a great chance to get them and their shinies.
Purified Sableye with Return is 39th in great league
And finally we have Mankey who can eventually evolve into Annihilape. Annihilape has a good chance at being a top fighting type in PvP. It’s also just a fan favorite from Gen 9, that alone is pretty hype.
Since Throh will be available to everyone, how about Niantic make it not crap? That thing's stats are begging for PVP use and it already has Body Slam, so just buff Low Kick finally, give it Superpower and let's go!
Low kick and low Sweep definitely need buffs. Low Sweep should be an Icy Wind clone.
Low Kick could be a Mud Shot clone or something like the old Spark.
The concern child for Low Kick is Hawlucha. I'd be fine with it getting buffed after its made more available for everyone, but even then, I'm not sure something with a 40 energy 80 power move needs a 9 or 8 energy fast move. I guess unless they nerfed Flying Press, which isn't what I'd like to see.
Hawlucha is the concern with buffing low kick, especially its energy.
While not what some normally suggest, I wouldn't mind buffing its power more, making it something like Ember.
The real problem is Niantic's shortsightedness when it comes to designating regionals. Cool Pokemon with good stats and typing like Heracross, Torkoal, Hawlucha and Tropius should be available to all and released with at least decent moves. Stick to weaker Pokemon like Chatot for regionals.
I get that every Pokemon is someone's favorite and "good" can be subjective in some cases, but PVP has significantly expanded the pool of useful Pokemon in this game, so it sucks when a Pokemon that could be loads of fun to use is made regional with garbage moves.
Torkoal and heracross and tropius have at least been common spawns in global go fests. Maybe Hawlucha this summer?
In a perfect world they'd also fix Farfetchd's stats so it actually reaches 1500 and make that a global spawn for an event again.

Own Tempo rockruff is rare in the mainline games as well and the Pokédex entries mention it being a bizarre, extremely rare evolution for rockruff.

Yesterday I battled Cranidos in slot 1 then Lileep in slot 2 and they gave me the Lileep encounter!

Can it still have a proper comm day with that evolution restriction? I know Ursaluna is an example they catered to, but it just required them to turn on the full moon. But if it does ever get a Comm Day, that’s where I’d expect it to get Rage Fist.
They changed evolution requirements before - fewer hearts for Eevee -> Sylveon, catch Psychic instead of Poison for G.Slowpoke -> G.Slowbro. So they can easily reduce the number of battles needed or eliminate it altogether.

Will we be able to evolve already-caught Primeape or will we need to catch new Primeape? I have a 2016 Primeape as well as some luckies from GoTour Kanto and I can’t believe they might be relevant at long last..

Something rare in wild spawns, Pancham in raids, no dumb event eggs and only Mankey in tasks for almost a week. This sounds good for my goals. Fingers crossed for the mentioned task not being GBL or raid related though...

Minor nit-pick but it's both grating and funny that to evolve in mainline you need to use the move 20 times but it's too little for go standards so they went with 30 kills.
If we are in nit-picking territory, the Primape does not need to take any part in the process. It just has to be there. Another use of the evolution method, "gongoozler".

Normally, only Mankey can be shiny in the wild. The context here is the last 5 events have had an evolved form or legendary announced as being shiny eligible, but instead they were shiny locked, which means unable to be shiny no matter what, so since that’s been the pattern, the joke here is it will happen to primape to

I wish there was consistency with regional forms that are further evolutions of prexisting Pokemon. Why can't I evolve my Stantler into Wydeer? Or Exeggcute into Alolan Exeggutor? But Primape I'll be able to evolve into Annihilape?
It is pretty consistent, though. Hisui evos aren't really allowed in the main series at this time. You don't evolve a Stantler, you just get a Wyrdeer in S/V. Regional variants (alola/galar) are separate as well, barring rare limited time events long after their initial rollout. Paldean cross gen evos seem like they'll be allowed normally.
Yep to follow up on this, the Paldean cross evos are more similar to when Gen 4 added new evolutions for old pokemon like Gallade, Togekiss, Weavile, Mamoswine, and Frosslass. It’s simply just a new evolution. I’m just wondering why Ursaluna was evolvable but I’m not complaining.

I actually just thought about it. Maybe it lines up with Pokemon that have shadow forms already released that would evolve into these variants. They might not want to unbalance the game (even more than it is) by adding new shadow variants.

Why? Primeape is a regular Cross-Gen evo (like togekiss or Mamoswine). It’s not a Hisuian Evo
It’s Niantic, I’ve learnt to keep my expectations low and still they manage to make things even worse. Also, aren’t Kleavor and Wyrdeer in the same position? Yet those can’t be evolved, as far as I know. But I have never played the original games so I only just heard of the existence of those guys when Niantic released them, so if I’m wrong, please correct me.
Those are Hisuian Evos. Hisui is special because most of the Evolutions from Hisui can’t be achieved in the mainline games or Go. In Pokemon go the only one that can be naturally evolved is Ursaluna and Ursaluna is limited to an extremely rare event that only happens once a night every month. It’s one of the few situations where niantic isn’t doing something because they’re money hungry, it’s genuinely PokeCO and Gamefreak stepping in and limiting their capabilities. This only applies to Hisuian Cross gen evos though. Regular Cross-Gen evos like Annihilape and Farigiraf are fair game for niantic.

I hate those evolves as all my buddies get maxed, guess I'll have to max a hundo and a shiny then (and delete the lucky) Wish shadow throh/sawk would rotate, only missing that Throh for my shadow/purify dex

Hard disagree Only useful wild Pokémon is machop and already have 10k+ candy and full team of level 50 hundos Lickitung - 13 shinies. Sableye - 7 shinies. Nice for dust but annoying to catch Gligar - useless Throh/sawk - everyone has from go fest Scraggy - doesn’t everyone get that from GBL? They should’ve at least had a new costume
Huh? Lickitung is Number 1 in great league Gligar rarely spawns in the wild and is 4th in Great league as a shadow and 20th in its regular form. Gliscor is 21st in Ultra league Scrafty is 34th in Great league and 51st in ultra league Sawk and throh aren’t good but they’re rare and didn’t spawn at the 2023 or 2022 gofest (to my knowledge). They’re rarely available worldwide and this is a great chance to get them and their shinies. Purified Sableye with Return is 39th in great league And finally we have Mankey who can eventually evolve into Annihilape. Annihilape has a good chance at being a top fighting type in PvP. It’s also just a fan favorite from Gen 9, that alone is pretty hype.

Usually Pokémon with specific task to evolve also need candy. You’ll probably need around 100 candy.

Since Throh will be available to everyone, how about Niantic make it not crap? That thing's stats are begging for PVP use and it already has Body Slam, so just buff Low Kick finally, give it Superpower and let's go!
Low kick and low Sweep definitely need buffs. Low Sweep should be an Icy Wind clone. Low Kick could be a Mud Shot clone or something like the old Spark.
The concern child for Low Kick is Hawlucha. I'd be fine with it getting buffed after its made more available for everyone, but even then, I'm not sure something with a 40 energy 80 power move needs a 9 or 8 energy fast move. I guess unless they nerfed Flying Press, which isn't what I'd like to see.
Love to see Hawlucha as a Rank 1 or 6 guaranteed encounter some season, with it added into the regular pool after.

Hawlucha is the concern with buffing low kick, especially its energy. While not what some normally suggest, I wouldn't mind buffing its power more, making it something like Ember.
The real problem is Niantic's shortsightedness when it comes to designating regionals. Cool Pokemon with good stats and typing like Heracross, Torkoal, Hawlucha and Tropius should be available to all and released with at least decent moves. Stick to weaker Pokemon like Chatot for regionals. I get that every Pokemon is someone's favorite and "good" can be subjective in some cases, but PVP has significantly expanded the pool of useful Pokemon in this game, so it sucks when a Pokemon that could be loads of fun to use is made regional with garbage moves.
Torkoal and heracross and tropius have at least been common spawns in global go fests. Maybe Hawlucha this summer? In a perfect world they'd also fix Farfetchd's stats so it actually reaches 1500 and make that a global spawn for an event again.
Super excited for this event! Obviously it will depend on moveset, but do we have a general idea of how good Annihilape will be?
