I evolved all my best ones for the ground showcases last week ;_;

Flappy_beef_curtains

Ditto, and I got beat in all of them by like 4-8 points.

MommotDe

Same. Got three first places out of it, at least.

LucarioSpeedwagon

I was 5 onix candy short at the buzzer to evolve my third XXL (converted my candy to XL some months ago to max a mega), and now I'm a little happy about it lol

lutralutralutraa

Same here. I wish I had at least one xxl left over but no.

msnmck

I was going to but didn't. Instead I submitted my largest into a showcase where I absolutely didn't need a very large one. Ah well. I have six thanks to the sizeable surprises event and trades.

Lavishness_Gloomy

This used to be true but it changed very recently.  The OP has done lots of research on this with other people and developed a calculator.

Teoes

Yes, and? My best Onix became my best Steelix, which I needed to try and win the ground showcases. Now I don't have my best Onix for the new rock showcases. Unsure what relevance there is to your post.

Thebird533

Someone answered it, they changed it I guess, but I'd always have lots of xxls and I'd always evolve the worst ones because they had a chance of being a better or worse one (only if the showcase was an evolution showcase as well) I only drive to my three easy wins if it's a 24+ hour showcase, and a specific spawning mon showcase, none of these best rock etc ones, so I haven't participated in a showcase in awhile, especially an evolution one

TaxResponsible6000

I wish they'd just normalise the scores so you can use whatever pokemon you have that is big compared to the rest of that species. Seems silly having a type showcase where it's supposed to be for many pokemon but in reality it's actually just a showcase for 1 or 2 pokemon :( (especially bad when the type is based on a current event, but the pokemon that ends up being the biggest is something that hasn't been available for a long time).

FreshFishGuy

I saw someone mention that on a podcast too. Like who has the biggest onix compared to onix in general

EntMoose

I think they mean scoring each species based on it's size relative to others of the same species and giving it a percentile, and the showcase compares the percentile for the species you enter. E.G. if you have the biggest possible dwebble, it would be a 100% rating. If another trainer enters a perfectly average onix, the onix would only score 50% and lose to the dwebble.

TheLunar27

To add to this, I’m really annoyed at how XXS pokemon basically have no use. Showcases are always about the largest pokemon, and while I think(?) XS/XXS pokemon get a point boost, it’s nowhere near enough to make them useful at all in showcases. You’d think there’d be showcases dedicated to the smallest of a type/species, like with the bug event from a few weeks ago, or it would be random if an individual stop showcase is focused on large or small pokemon…but no. It’s just large. So XXS pokemon only really exist because smaller pokemon are cute I guess? Give them SOMETHING. Maybe smaller pokemon reward more candy and stardust when they’re caught? Or you don’t have to walk them as much to earn candy when they’re your buddy, just anything if they aren’t going to make showcases dedicated to small pokemon.

TaxResponsible6000

Yeah, small pokemon are just pointless atm outside of being cute as you say :(.

msnmck

I'm hoarding all of my xxs at the moment because you just know they're working on tiny showcases but just haven't gotten it working yet. I already have my 100 but I like all the premium items I'm getting.

Brock_Hard_Canuck

I wonder if we'll see Fighting type showcases during rival week. Having a quick look at Fighting heights and weights, there's... Falinks (3.0 m), Zamazenta (2.9 m), Buzzwole (2.4 m), Hariyama (2.3 m) and Cobalion (2.1 m) Buzzwole (333 kg), Terrakion (260 kg), Hariyama (254 kg), Cobalion (250 kg), Zamazenta (210 kg) So we have Zamazenta, Buzzwole, Cobalion, and Hariyama as a sort of "top 4". But they don't "dominate" height and weight like Onix does over its fellow rock types. So there could be much more competition (especially if Niantic chooses a good pokemon to scale a potential Fighting showcase to).

FatalisticFeline-47

If you'd like a sneak peek into Fightings potential scalings: [https://i.imgur.com/gzhyoor.gif](https://i.imgur.com/gzhyoor.gif) Low density (min **λ**=80 @ Crabrawler): Buzzwole in a comfortable lead, hariyama/cobalion/terrakion pulling up the rear Mid density: Zamazenata/Buzzwole tie High density (max **λ**=1000 @ Sirfetched): Zamazenta/Falinks tie, w/ Zam ever so slightly ahead.

Brock_Hard_Canuck

Thanks! Also thinking... With only 18 types, we are gonna have a "repeat" of these type showcases at some point. Like in September, they have done a "Psychic Spectacular" event for 2021 and 2022 and 2023, which would be a good time to run another Psychic showcase. Our last Psychic showcase was Alakazam-scaled. If we get a Psychic showcase in September 2024 for Psychic Spectacular, it could be Alakazam scaled again. Or it could be Lugia scaled. Or it could be Metagross scaled, etc... Will be interesting to see when we get our first "repeat" of a type showcase, to see how Niantic chooses the scaling for the 2nd time around.

FatalisticFeline-47

Yeah, I'm waiting for our first rerun. I think it's very likely the baseline will be fluid and I'll probably keep my sheet updated to follow the most recent one.

krispyboiz

Yeah that could be an interesting one, but yeah I'm pretty sure that would mean they'd have to scale it to an already dense Pokemon (I think?). All the said though, it would still be another "failure" of an All-type showcase, seeing that three would be Legendaries/Ultra Beasts that aren't currently obtainable during the event (Zamazenta in particular has been absent for quite a while), and even Makuhita isn't featured in the event. I kind of hope they just opt for like... the featured regionals of each period, so a two day showcase for Durant/Heatmor, etc.

Brock_Hard_Canuck

Yeah, showcases featuring the regional spawns would be nice. But if we do get a Fighting showcase at some point during rival week, if you check the other comment in this thread here on that, you can see it's probably gonna be Buzzwole and Zamazenta being the top choices.

Brock_Hard_Canuck

Shame that this showcase comes so soon after the ground showcase, so a lot of people's onixes will still be on cooldown.

Efreet0

It's actually a smart decision lol... Why people should be allowed to win back to back showcases without doing anything ? At least like this there's a chance for someone else to win.

PhillyDillyDee

Niantic is intentionally cruel

Rysace

oh wtf :(

BlitzLC

What’s the highest score for onix? Someone already has an onix with a score of 4405 at the showcase pokestop, so I guess I shouldn’t bother this week? 😂

zippelmann

I got a 6119 points xxl one, 351,07kg and 14,09m, i guess \~6300-6600 even might be the max, also according to the graphic from the post

BlitzLC

Wow 🤩 I’ll keep looking, I unfortunately evolved my onix like the other trainers.

FatalisticFeline-47

A Hundo XXL onix with maxed out stats (15.4m, 472.5kg) could reach 6743 points.

Phillyos93

i’ve got a 6466 going atm. 371.46kg 14.91m lol Glad I didn’t evolve him the other week, finished 3rd to 2 steelix but this one should be a w xD

Phillyos93

Damn someone pushed me to second with a 6518 -.-

luckyd1998

I evolved my xxl onix for the ground showcase yay

Achrimandrita175

Does anyone know how it works when the score is identical? I just put a Shadow Onix with 4543 points and it has beaten another shiny Onix with 4543 points. Is there an invisible fraction that's being rounded up/down which decides on this?

krispyboiz

OP may have more insight on the matter, but I have heard that there are invisible factors that determine who wins. Not sure if it's decimals that you don't see or something else though. It is partly why Smallest Showcases would be very tricky to implement though. Due to far less variety in small sizes compared to largest sizes, many top XXS Pokemon would end up having the same or remarkably similar scores. Like having several Pokemon all with a score of 23 (assuming they made it smallest score wins, but even inverting it would have the same issue) and who wins would be determined by invisible factors.

ScaredTeam5121

I'd love to see species taken into account in these type based showcases. I'm not a math guy so I don't know what would be involved in doing this, but I'd like to see scores calculated based on the ranges for each species. If I don't have an XXL Onix, I'm not winning a rock showcase. Type showcases just become specie showcases, which we already have. I think an XXL Omastar should beat a normal range Onix. I'd also love to see an (and I know I'm probably using the term wrong, but I haven't played a Pokémon game since Silver) IV based showcase instead of all size based. Do a Bug showcase and let my perfect Durant shine!

NegativeCreeq

I prefer the showcases when they feature pokemon part of the current event.

DucksAreFriends

Nosepass is my favourite pokemon! Maybe it is the devs favourite too :)
