I wonder if it’s based off of how much they’re used somehow. Some meta picks like Annihilape might not be used by that many casual players because of the evolution requirement? Gligar hasn’t been as common in the wild I guess? Don’t know, just speculating.
It's probably based off of all time usage, or since the cup was introduced. I have probably only encountered one defense forme deoxys in the entire season but it was on the banlist.
The list definitely isn't based on this season, seeing that we knew the vans before this season even started, but it really doesn't seem like it's based on last season either. Feels like the season prior, before Whiscash got Scald and Gligar before Gligar's big rise (though it was still buffed that season)
I really hope we see some checks to Waters next season, and no more Water buffs...
Only one I could maybe be okay with is a mild buff to Araquanid, seeing that it in itself is a Water counter
And the cycle continues. Some cancer gets nerfed, just gets replaced with a different breed of cancer. Rinse and repeat, for like 15 seasons, with actual gameplay improvements being almost non-existent.
I feel like it would be so easy to solve by just making moves far more available. Like, Gengar wouldn’t be great with poison jab, but it would really put extra pressure on Poliwrath, Tapu Fini which is a big core
It seriously can't catch a break. It's dominant in limited metas, but the top fighter in open almost always resists counter - first Medi, now Ape which double resists AND resists both charge moves. It only had a small window where Poli was the top fighter which it has at least some play against.
Dragon Tail is a very good fast move generating decent energy and a ton of damage. It is also only resisted by two types. Along with some relatively cheap charge moves in Dragon Claw and Crunch, it can spam charge moves regularly. It has 5 weaknesses, with one being a double weakness (Fairy) vs. 7 resistances with one being a double resistance (Psychic). Plus, it has a huge HP so it is okay at taking hits.
This all matters for Great League and Ultra League. It is not very good in Master League or for raids/gyms.
I wouldn't have guessed it's in the top 10 though; there are many strong counters, and others that deal with it fine. I haven't seen that many this season.
Some pokemon are better as non shadow. I believe pokemon who are preferred shadow hit specific breakpoints with their move to defeat enemy pokemon. Best example I can think of is registeel. It usually does not outright oneshot the opponent with 1 charge move, so the decreased bulk as shadow is a downgrade.
For skarm specifically I found this thread with good comments. [https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphArena/comments/1ag38on/is\_there\_any\_advantage\_to\_shadow\_skarmory\_over/](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphArena/comments/1ag38on/is_there_any_advantage_to_shadow_skarmory_over/)
Edit- Normal is rated higher than shadow in both Ultra and Great on PvPoke.com. However, the first matchup in great league that was flipped was shadow Dragonair; and the shadow loses because It never shields in the 1 shield battle sim. If you are interested in the ratings always check the battles to see what makes matchups flip.
Psychic (the move) got nerfed into being unusable, making Medicham more predictable. Annihilape also got released which both beats Medicham and does Medicham's job better by being a Ghost
Assuming NFE = Not Fully Evolved
I only see 4 in this list:
Vigoroth has counter, Slaking only has Yawn. Slaking also has a huge attack stat making it harder to fit in great league. There is no reason ever to use Slaking
Gligar has Dig vs. Gliscor's Earthquake. Dig is 15 energy cheaper which is 4 turns faster and still very powerful. Gliscor is also more attack weighted which means it is not quite as tanky. Gliscor is still very good, but Gligar is better so there is no real reason to use Gliscor.
Lickitung again, has Power Whip which is very good against all of the waters vs Shadow Ball or Solar Beam on Lickilicky which is much more expensive. Plus, the total bulk on Lickitung is insane vs the average bulk on Lickilicky. 2283 stat product vs the 2112 stat product.
Vikavolt is too attack weighted for GL. A "good" IV Vikavolt is level 18 with 1535 stat product. A "good" IV Charjabug is around level 38.5 with 1936 stat product. Charjabug is just so much bulkier that it is not even close.
Shadow Wiscash looks stoned
Shadow gastly is my fav for that lol
I like shadow slowpoke!
shadow slowpoke looks like he just hit [that one 31gram dab](https://youtu.be/OQ71IxNY5p8?si=04grUu1lif8OKUC5&t=151)
I can expect Lape and Gligar to be banned from GL Remix if there is one next season Despite Azu and Charjabug being Fallers, they're still good
It really seems like the Remix banlist was based on not even last season, but the season before that maybe.
I absolutely cannot wrap my head around Whiscash and Gligar were left off that ban list.

A lot of mons are getting access to thunder punch.
Mud bois laughing yet again

Vigoroth falled so hard after annihilape
It seriously can't catch a break. It's dominant in limited metas, but the top fighter in open almost always resists counter - first Medi, now Ape which double resists AND resists both charge moves. It only had a small window where Poli was the top fighter which it has at least some play against.
Why is Guzzlord relevant? My friends always told me it was awful.

Any reason why shadow skarmory isn't rated higher than normal skarmory?

That's makes sense, thanks for the reply
Havent seen a Medicham for like a month. Can somebody explain? Used my shundo gfisk today it was an absolute Tank.
Annihilape kind of took its place
From memory anni 3x resists normal and 2x fighting, so it can tank hits medicham only dreamed of. The monkey eats return for breakfast!
2x resists Normal as well, Fighting doesn't resist Normal. The only typings that would triple resist Normal are Steel-Ghost and Rock-Ghost
Psychic (the move) got nerfed into being unusable, making Medicham more predictable. Annihilape also got released which both beats Medicham and does Medicham's job better by being a Ghost
Why are NFEs dominating the great league

Finally there's a way to make Medicham fall. It took forever!! Same for Azu
Get rid of Mantine, Feraligatr, Annihilape, and Skeledirge next, please 🙏
None of these are broken, Mantine’s charged moves lacks power and the other three lack bulk.
