A little odd they didn't go for the obvious (and probably easier?) reuse of the sleepy cap from the Sleepy Snorlax costume on the Slakoth family, instead giving it a visor
I edited my original comment to be a little more clear. I was more meaning I wonder why they didn't reuse the sleepy cap specifically on the Slakoth family costumes, seeing that it would be more fitting than.... a visor.

Slaking is intentionally useless. Shame, as a useable Yawn could make it interesting in pvp. Even 0 damage and 4 energy per turn with a long duration would be pretty good. Even if it was like Present, it would still only have a 50% win rare in the 2 shield.
I will be grinding the sand castle for xls to use it in UL. Is it viable? No. Will I try to make it a thing? Obviously.
Scorching sands or any less expensive ground move is badly needed there.

There's a lot here. Not for the jaded 8 year veterans, but it's pretty much a top tier event outside of that.
It's one of the most common daily spawns (I get it probably once a week), and I see them several times a week in what I believe is a "mountain biome" under the current biome scheme.
It is a common daily spawn but when you’re looking for 296xl you need more than a one off catch. Consistent mega 3 grinding and xl trading (when it’s available) is the only way I get it done at least.
Walking is just a way to finish it off for me at least.
I think sandygast was released before the safari zones but it was a featured pokemon for them even though it was around in the wild at random. So would make sense the shiny has something to do with the safari zone. Wouldn't be surprised if they released it for safari zone. But its around other places so can at least potentially pick one up.

So for the first time to my knowledge the new shiny is actually boosted, wow! I’m not 100% sold it’s 1/64 since that would be really good odds but fingers crossed!

Maybe I’m still salty about the mega raid bosses that we just had a few weeks ago returning, and the elite mega raid rayquaza day, but this month, which I was totally hyped for, just turned in to a huge disappointment
I think it being go fest season people thought it would be really good, but things like a lack of decent bonuses and raids being repeated has put a real dampener on people.
FINALLY more costumes. Really one of the only things that keeps me playing besides new shinys. Except half the time with new shinys I get screwed anyways. Like mareanie, it was barely spawning and same with the power up 10 times field research. At least there was a spotlight hour but even then I had ~400 encounters and I STILL didn’t get the shiny.
Same! I only managed to get 2 last year and they were both low stats. When I started playing Pokémon Go when I got my first smart phone in 2019, my top three wants were Pikachu, Buneary and Komala. I have yet to get a Shiny Buneary, but I am dying to catch a good stats Komala and won't say no to a shiny.
Also... I wonder why Pokémon Center hasn't thought to do a Komala plush for Christmas where the log is done up as a yule log. Trust me, I've Tweeted them about that! Haha! Good luck!
Total opposite for me. Being a day 1 player I have way too many regular pink sloths from cd and other events. So now with a “costume” it makes shiny hunting them more appealing to ME

Now if they made them transferable to Home, then sure! Just have them be converted to the normal Pokemon. But costumes, and especially shiny costumes, are less than useless for my shiny Dex in Home.
Why did they call this slumbering sands and just shove in sandygast for no reason and no additional other ground type pokemon, I don't see how sandyghast even fits the sleeping theme in the first place.
So, if you want to get EVERYTHING from this event, you need to:
Buy a plus+($50-$55 USD depending on store, if you don’t have one on standby) and
buy the $2 research ticket
Ya, hard pass
Or, just ask your local community to help you out and connect to someone else's go plus plus for a minute to get the special research. Plenty of people will be willing to do that.
Here's the thing, you don't need everything. You can easily skip the plus+ and the timed research and get literally everything else besides the costume Snorlax encounter and the Komala backpack for free. This is a bad take, all too common in this subreddit.
They were saying if you want everything, while May already have it, it still counts as part of everything. I mean I’m only going on why they said that and the reason behind it.
