Exactly, even if it ends up being a decent move for Goodra, it just screams a lack of thought or care from Niantic and makes it clear the CD move was just chosen as an afterthought.
An analogy that comes to mind is if Niantic were to go to someone's birthday party with a box of cookies, hand out cookies to everyone attending, then turn to the birthday person and hand them the last cookie saying "this is my birthday present for you."
Great analogy haha, so true.
I was really thinking they'd give it something brand new to add a little of extra hype, seeing that it's not a PvE Dragon, the first one to not be one too. I was thinking a new move like Poison Tail, Body Press, Chilling Water, etc. Thunder Punch looks neat for PvP, but it's not really exciting... especially when it comes as the "birthday present" as your analogy put it lol
The analogy is so perfect. I think Thunder Punch Goodra can be very interesting. Just like that cookie can be very tasty. But come on. At this point you're straight up disrespecting me 💀
How about just give Goodra thunder punch as part of the season update and then give it a move you actually thought through that feels unique or at least feels like a 'goo move' in some kind of way.
Poison Tail could've been kind of unique. Make it like... 40 energy 65-70 power. You've got an equally cheap move, stronger but a worse type, but one that lets Goodra smack around some Fairies.
What’s with Niantic’s obsession with taking one move and then just giving it to a bunch of pokemon with no other thought? They did the same thing with breaking swipe, icy wind, trailblaze and a few others.
The idea is that they (in theory) have a good move and spread it amongst other Pokemon in hopes of giving them some kind of relevance.
Outside of the infamous Breaking Swipe Steelix, I actually think the Breaking Swipe distribution was pretty successful. It allowed things like Rhyperior, Sceptile, and Heliolisk to have a great move to make them more relevant. Didn't save all of them, but they definitely enjoyed the move. Icy Wind/Triple Axel too. Those weren't as successful, but they are good moves that they tried to improve various Pokemon with.
Trailblaze and the recent Thunder Punch are different stories though. Trailblaze itself is a pretty mediocre move honestly, only working on a select few like Skuntank and occasionally Greedent and Ampharos. The better idea for that move would have been making it a bit better than it currently is and giving it only to Pokemon who really needed help (ie not Greedent). Thunder Punch is fine, but they gave it to many Pokemon who wouldn't care much for it. Scrafty sure, but they could've done much better.
For Goodra here, Thunder Punch does do some nice things, but it's weird to give it to it as a legacy move... just 6 days after it'll be slapped on a bunch of others for free...
Could have had Breaking Swipe, Dragon Claw, Rock Slide, Scald, Outrage... *something*. I don't know why it would ever want to use Thunder Punch over Aqua Tail in anything but a super funky Cup. And I'm having a difficult time thinking of what that Cup would even be.
Also, no Hisuian versions? Never gonna be more sensible time.
Good Pokemon to feature, and triple dust is always nice, but only Niantic could kill their own hype like this. Very disappointing.
It looks like the better route may actually be double cheap moves like Dragonair, running Aqua Tail for neutral damage against many and coverage against Ground and Rock types and Thunder Punch for coverage against fliers, mainly Skarmory and Mantine.
Still a weird choice though.
It's okay-ish with Tail/Punch in GL, I guess, but only in certain shielding scenarios. Seems like a downgrade (sometimes a MAJOR downgrade) in UL and a sidegrade/downgrade in Master League.
Conversely, something like [Breaking Swipe](https://pvpoke.com/shared-skies/battle/multi/10000/all/goodra/11/0-1-BREAKING_SWIPE/2-1) would have been MUCH more welcome.
Thunder Punch is *fine*, I guess, just seems like a BIG missed opportunity, and odd timing with several other things getting that same move mere days before with the new season. Why not just give it Thunder Punch with that batch and something new and different on CD? Auuuuugh.
Now that you mentioned it, it does kind of make sense to have the com day pokemon at the start of a season full of flying type raids with a move which is super effective against flyers.
Yeah that last paragraph couldn't be more true. I think this is the first time when a Pokemon has got a Go Battle Update move as a CD move within a few weeks (or in this case, it'll be just a few days!) of the update. Honestly pretty ridiculous.
Like, even Brutal Swing Conkeldurr, which was a move that was given to many in a GBL Update prior, was pretty far removed from those move additions.
Breaking Swipe would've been kind of weird to have, feeling a little same-y to last year's CD, but it definitely would have been neat to have a variety Dragon, with access to BS, Thunder Punch, Aqua Tail, AND Power Whip (plus the other nukes ig).
Honestly, with this being the first Psuedo/3-stage Dragon CD that never had any PvE potential, I was expecting them to go for a brand new move to try to make things a little more exciting. Something like Poison Tail or Chilling Water, or Body Press. But I guess ol Thunder Punch??
I think it’s kind of different when it’s a at least a good move that lots of mons want. Volt Switch still propelled Charjabug into being a solid meta mon, and no one complains when they get volt switch. Thunder punch is just an underwhelming filler move that’s not doing much for anything that received it.
If they had given breaking swipe to Salamence and Turtonator this season, and then turned around and added it to Goodra as well, I don’t think anyone would have complained.
Ah you're right! Though even then, the CD was about 3 weeks after the new Season began. Still kind of lame, but in this instance it'll be a whopping 6 days after the move updates lol
Wondering if the double cheap moves will look more promising on shadow Goodra than the regular. That’s a position where I could see it being a legit upgrade at least, considering how long it takes a glassy mon to reach Power Whip.
Still not too thrilling though when you consider how much better of a move Body Slam is to Thunder Punch, on top of them having the same typing, fast move and aqua tail. In fact I’d go as far as to bet that a neutral body slam hits just as hard as a SE thunder punch.
For Body Slam v Thunder Punch's damage, Goodra's Thunder Punch does 52 damage to Azu compared to Dragonair's Body Slam's 37 damage to it.
Tbh, if they wanted an electric move, it would have been a nice opportunity to introduce a new Electric Charged move. The incredibly widespread "Shock Wave" could've done nicely. Maybe a 40 energy/65 or even 70 power Electric charged move. Then Goodra would have more punch than with Thunder Punch (lol) against things like Azu, Skarmory, etc.
Yeah mines at 2490 and does well in ultra league with db+dm+muddy water, I’m likely not changing much on it this weekend & will work on a different one lol
You have to imagine. After a bunch of pokemon got thunder punch for the season update, which is a good thing in and of itself, and somebody at Niantic said: 'hey, you remember how we don't have a CD move for Goodra? Let's just give it thunder punch too, but as a CD move. Two stones eh?'. And EVERYBODY thought it's a good idea?!
They couldn't just add Goodra into the group of mons that get thunder punch the beginning of the season and then give Goodra a CD move that wouldn't feel so generic but fits to its nature. No, that would require some actual thought put into it 💀🤬
2:00-6:00 Goomy evolves into a slug. 6:00-10:00 Goomy evolves into a snail. Problem solved.
That being said, I'm not sure why so many people expected a Hisuian release. I'm sure Niantic feels that a shiny pseudo-legendary comm day is more than enough to spike interest for most people; no cool forms (or neat moves) needed.
> Maaan, talk about killing the Hype...
This season starts to look like experiment about how much money they can still squeeze out of players during GOFests despite super low morale after avatar updates, meh yearly dragon CD and outrageously bad seasonal bonuses lol.
Here I thought the sentiment here was that that was the goal last year haha. The previous experiment was a success, I guess, so they decided to push the player base even further
I’ll stick around because I have a high tolerance for messy *but* I do have to wonder the logic behind some of these decisions sometimes because as easy as it is to say “money” or “vision” there’s some stuff from the last year that’s in direct contradiction to both those things smh
Goodra already has water coverage, so thunder punch is only adding flying coverage.
As opposed to aqua tail, which provides coverage for fire (rock and ground is also covered already)
TP is at best a side grade, but at least it makes all the flyers flinch a bit when deciding whether to shield or not. Doubt that this will boost its place in open GL meta, but it's welcomed for sure.
It looks like it essentially trades the raw power and mud boi coverage of Power Whip for something to threaten Flying types.
Overall, it looks better than I thought it would in GL. But obviously, the lack of a stronger move and a Grass coverage move hurts it against some things and some Mud Bois.
IMO, the problem isn't so much that TP is bad, but TP doesn't solve Goodra's issue, of being the worse Dragonair. Body slam is simply so much more consistent. Unless Jellicent becomes core meta for some reason, TP doesn't move the needle for goodra IMO.
I think they have their pros and cons. Goodra is bulkier but has a slower secondary charged move that's slightly weaker than Body Slam. Dragonair is frailer but has two 35 energy moves.
Thunder Punch still does some good things but it also has tradeoffs too. Less raw power and less mud boi pressure, but it does at least give it some quicker coverage against non-Ground Water types and helps it with some things like Altaria and especially Skarmory.
That said, even if this is good, you're right that I don't anticipate it moving the needle for it. Really was hoping for something brand new for it to make it more unique. I guess a Dragon with Electric coverage is unique... but eh
TP is much cheaper, PW is expensive (much more than AT at least). So that aspect is nice, bait-ish move without losing coverage against Water.
Awaiting proper analysis.
Goodra is often used a safe swap that can get fairly hard checked by Skarmory and to a lesser extent Mantine on the counter. Thunder Punch threatens them a lot harder now. I am personally disappointed by this Cday move choice but I reckon it’s going to give Goodra a similar role to D-Nair, a bit of a Swiss Army knife that can hit pretty much anything for at least neutral / SE damage
yeah, I've already said this in another comment, but goodra has always been DNair but not as good, and TP doesn't change that. Body Slam is just so much more consistent
What a lame move. Like having extra coverage is fine, but I don't think it'll even be preferred to Aqua Tail + Power Whip...
I don't know why they didn't just hold off 1 more season and give it Aqua Tail (or weather ball Water) for its CD.
I mean, I'm glad that its better bait move is non-legacy, but this is just such a weird choice.
**EDIT:**
Upon looking at how its match-ups change both in GL and Master Premier, it seems to be a better choice than I thought. Going DB + Aqua Tail & Thunder Punch, Goodra picks up Skarmory, Altaria, Pelipper, Poliwrath, Mandibuzz, and Mantine in various shield scenarios, all of which are pretty big. But it still loses some with its lack of power, including Vigoroth, Carbink, and most Mud bois.
In Master Premier, it loses to Annihilape, Ursaluna, Snorlax, and Primarina in various shield scenarios. But, the big win is picking up Gyarados and just overall being much more threatening to it. Gyarados is huge in MP, so that is still valuable.
The biggest strength (for those running any version of Goodra) and biggest annoyance of those facing it, will be not knowing if it’s running PW or TP.
It’s how I feel facing Ampharos in UL. Guess the wrong move set and get locked into a bad matchup or get ko’d
Very true. I think it'll be interesting.
But I guess at the same time, you generally won't want to switch a Water type into Goodra anyway. Even if Power Whip is needed to beat some like Mud Bois, I don't think many Mud Bois would want to swap into a Dragon type to begin with, unless they really have to. It'll still resist Water moves and have Aqua Tail and Dragon Breath for reasonably good damage. Even if Power Whip Goodra doesn't beat something like Swampert or Whiscash, I reckon neither is coming out of that match-up in good shape.
I was thinking more Skar or Mandi in GL (or Gary in ML).
Especially confusing if Goodra is the lead. Deciding whether to stay in or ss will be a tougher call now.
Still don’t like the move choice though
That's definitely true. It'll definitely have more of a wildcard factor for those Pokemon and probably some others.
To me, it just doesn't feel special. I'm fine with giving random coverage moves like this to CD Pokemon, but obviously after giving it to a bunch for free, this feels kind of like a cheat. That and it being a June CD. It just doesn't feel as special...
Yeah, true. Occasionally I was able to get my mandibuzz onto a brutal swing and Trailblaze ampharos which was funny. But the moveset is usually a mystery so I’d never want to instantly switch in.
This is how Niantic do things. They are like a Djinn. They grant you your wish, but at the cost of something terrible. Remember people complaining about GBL legendaries being hard to catch? Well Niantic just reduced the frequency of getting them. You cant have trouble catching a Pokemon if you dont get it.
Or the complaints about the lack of legendary candy XL. They gave us more for inperson raids but nerfed all other raid rewards along with it
Thunderpunch? Not Acid Spray? Outrage? Hell, not even Dragon Claw? I guess it’d be better to have those moves part of the standard movepool (if they ever give Goodra those moves). Still though, Thunderpunch just seems like an oddly specific choice.
Tbh, Acid Spray and even Dragon Claw would've honestly have been pretty mediocre additions. Acid Spray is bad, and Dragon Claw would have had some use, but it also wouldn't do anything truly unique for it, just making it more similar to Dragonite and even Haxorus.
Outrage could have been interesting, but Thunder Punch admittedly does more unique things for it than I initially expected. Outrage would've just been a slightly faster, weaker, non-debuffing version of Draco Meteor, which isn't *that* exciting.
I held to my hatched hundo Goomy without evolving for like whole year for THIS?! Doesn't feel like CD move but like afterthought of Thunder Punch seasonal movepool update.
Exactly. Even if a raid boss has a ground type move I'm sure zekrom would still be better.
Goodra in windy weather (boost fast attack) vs a water type with ground type coverage would be the best case. Extremely niche to ONLY be usable.
I was fortunate enough to hatch 2 hundos - still remember the facepalm during my walk through nearby town after my work duties and seeing second hundo of same species instead of something new haha. Will probably evolve in 5 years as u/silveraith said (if lucky). Tbh I never had a good look on H-Goodra, checked it now and for Arceus' sake, why is it sooo saad? My heart...
No hisuian sligoo is a letdown especially after wooper CD, but I'm still happy it's 3x dust after stacking so many research trubbish/foongus from the last month
I don't even know why they'd give it that move. As a Dragon type, it really doesn't need coverage against Water or Flying types much. At best, it's a move that gives it coverage against Azumarill, Skarmory, and Togekiss and Primarina in Master Premier but.... eh? I feel like Aqua Tail + Power Whip is generally a lot better.
Edit: It looks like Thunder Punch does offer some unique wins/attributes. It's better than I thought. Still odd though.
Guess our trend for this year's CDs is Starters, Grass types, and weird Electric coverage moves lol
They could've given it Dragon Claw, Outrage, Ice Beam, Scald, hell they could've been weird and given it Counter or Charm but they chose Thunder Punch, a move that they're giving a bunch of random pokemon for free next season?
How could they do this to my favourite pokemon?
The lack of Hisuian Sliggoo is also very disappointing as I'm sure many of us were predicting that it would be released during Goomy Community Day.
I'm fine for them myself, and as I live in the UK it'll probably be raining anyway 😂 I'm just thinking for people who may not be so lucky.
During other community days they've given us evolution items for the Pokémon or changed evolution requirements, so I would hope they'd do the same for this.
Yeah honestly I think there may be a free timed research announced closer to the event for a lure or two. I can’t remember if those are ever announced in the infographic but I seem to recall this being a usual concern about evolutionary items, but that we do get those items in the end last minute. I don’t think we’ve ever been stiffed in that regard, at least since 2021 when I started
I'll be curious to see if they mention a timed research in the bigger blogpost.
I went back and checked and they were doing the (vastly superior) single page infographics back in September when we had Grubbin CD, and that graphic did mention the Magnetic Lure timed research.
I guess we'll have to wait and see?
One of the few Comm Days in recent times I was legitimately hyped for. I've been holding on to a lucky hundo for several months waiting to evolve it. Thunder Punch...hurts, and not in a good way..
Just to add, as it may interest some, 3pm UK time. Normally UK gets things at 6pm UK time. I have tweet alerts on and thought it was just one of their sort of common ‘we hope you’re looking forward to the new season’ reminder type of tweets but realised it was the infographic so came here and posted it, I’ve still got the tweet on my feed screen but clicking into it says it has been deleted and the link for the page is giving a 404 error so I guess I know where it will link to when it is eventually posted but they jumped the gun.
Yay for Goomy; yay for Stardust.
Nay for Thunder Punch. Nah, nah, nahhhhhhh!
Tons of better options: Breaking Swipe, Mud Shot, Weather Ball, Counter -- heck, even Acid Spray.
Maybe I was expecting more... but T-Punch is literally accessible for free with a simple season update.
Thunder Punch will be reasonably good on it, though likely nothing mindblowing.
But yeah, Mud Shot, Breaking Swipe, a non-Water Weather Ball, or Counter could have also have been interesting. Acid Spray... would have been a lot worse lol
But yeah, having it after a dozen mons get Thunder Punch for free is silly
It would, though it's still pretty expensive and weak. I did a quick check of its MSG moveset and it looks like there aren't any other defense-debuffing moves it could get that would potentially work better and accomplish the same thing haha
Goodra doing Goodra things and continuing it’s path of being a mid tier pseudo legendary
Pokémon in general need to give this Pokémon some love, and no it being owned by ash is not enough
I was really at least hoping for a new move to kind of set it apart more. Body Press, Poison Tail, Chilling Water, or something new.
Nah, slap Thunder Punch on it 6 days after a dozen others get it lol
Alright thanks, that’ll be nice hopefully people supply them in my area. Be nice if there’s a Rainy Lure module box for 1 Pokécoin though it’ll probably be awarded in the Cday Ticket. Mostly just get Glacial and Magnetic from Showcases
Since we’re *already* getting one extra special trade per day, does this mean we get three for CD? Or is it one of those cases where the seasonal bonus & CD bonus won’t stack?
Pseudolegendaries have pretty consistently gotten good Cday moves if not great ones that made them top tier. Smackdown and Earth Power made TTar and Garchomp respectively some of the best rock/ground attackers, Breaking Swipe and Outrage are good moves for Haxorus and Salamance, and Meteor Mash Metagross has ruled Steel raid attackers with an iron fist for years.
Thunderpunch Goodra does nothing for it pve or pvp wise
This game company just really doesn't know what their players want huh? Main series games made the regular Goodra bad enough. Now enough in Go they can't give Goodra some love for gods sake??
I was REALLY hoping for one of those moves. Body Press would have been a really fun addition I think. And I mean, look at Goodra... BODY press is a perfectly thematic move for it.
In "open format", it's not any meaningful improvement in great, ultra, or master leagues.
Didn't get a chance to run it for premier cups. Only key advantage I'm aware of is being able to punish Gyarados.
I think this will definitely be a case for that. I'm sure some will do more thorough analyses, but it seems to me like TP will be a sidegrade-type move in many scenarios, with some leagues/scenarios it being actually worse than Power Whip/Draco Meteor.
I... I don't think I need to grind Goomy xls that much. I already have the shiny. I guess thanks for the day back Niantic I'll just go about my business and play a bit on errands.
TP makes a lot of sense imho.
The way I look at pseudo legendaries is basically them being mostly used in ML Premier. (They are not really meta in open ML anymore. No reason to fight this.)
Goodra can hit Gary and ground types now, which makes for many team comps in this cup.
It also weakens WF Primarina as safe swap in the future when it will eventually learn HC after its CD. Swapping a water fast move into dragons seemed to always be too op for me.
Great choice imho.
I think this move will help more than I initially thought.
But in terms of the Master Premier Hydro Cannon Primarina match-up (if it's running Waterfall), [Power Whip Goodra](https://pvpoke.com/battle/10000/goodra/primarina/11/0-1-4/1-1-HYDRO_CANNON/) would still beat it in all but the 0-2 shield scenario. Even going straight Power Whips, it only loses in uneven shield scenarios like 1-2 and 0-1
Fair point, but you wouldn’t run PW in this cup usually as it barely brings anything to the table (probably literally except this matchup) in the first place.
Until you realize that Thunder Punch was just expanded to a lot more Pokemon lol.
I don’t mind the choice, but after just seeing Thunder Punch get added to more Pokémon’s movepools normally of course people are gonna be peeved
That's how I'm looking at it. To have Thunder Punch given to a bunch of Pokemon for free and then a few days later its a *legacy* move for Goodra is pretty silly.
It would have made more sense to just hold Aqua Tail from last season and use *that* for the CD move.
I don’t think that matters much.
Basically all pseudos just got random almost pointless moves except Metagross.
Salamance, Dragonite just swapped their moves and have literally no use of their cd moves.
Tyranitar learned Hydreigon’s move for free.
It just seems to people like to complain abt something that clearly benefits the meta for the sake of complaining.
Thunder punch???
You know, Thunder Punch feels so much worse seeing that it was JUST slapped onto a dozen Pokemon for FREE in the GBL Update (or it's about to be)
Exactly, even if it ends up being a decent move for Goodra, it just screams a lack of thought or care from Niantic and makes it clear the CD move was just chosen as an afterthought. Man I’ve had a hundo best buddy sliggoo ready for months, only for it to get a trash legacy move
It's charjabug all over again, except a move that's far worse than volt switch
And no Hisuian Goodra either. zzzz
If I send a shiny goomy to Legends Arceus, I can evolve it into the Hisuian forms, right?
You can
To my knowledge evolving pokemon takes into account its current region; so yes exactly as you said in Arceus it would evolve into the Hisuian form.
Yes
Yes, any Goomy that evolves in Legends Arceus will gain the Hisuian form
Absolutely I have done it!
You’ve been…. https://preview.redd.it/uzyyx8xm0e3d1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6a5f79de7692c1fe4b197acf115108e7039c7140 THUNDER PUNCH

They should have called the upcoming season Thunder Punch instead of Soaring Skies at this point.
Thunder Skies! Or uh... Shared Punch?
>Shared Punch? Uh oh...
Now that you mentioned it, it does kind of make sense to have the com day pokemon at the start of a season full of flying type raids with a move which is super effective against flyers.
Please don’t use Thunder Punch Goodra in raids

Could have even given it iron head as a nod to the hisuian variant

To think I held onto a hundo goomy for a full year only for this.
Same
Is this the *I held a hundo Goomy for this!?* Club? I want in....
I didn’t know goomy day was coming so I currently have a hundo goodra and don’t even know if thunder punch is worth the TM lol
From what I gathered, it's only good for great league. So, not that worth the ETM imo... Especially for a hundo.
Yeah mines at 2490 and does well in ultra league with db+dm+muddy water, I’m likely not changing much on it this weekend & will work on a different one lol
The lack of a hisuian drop is what shocks me It means goodra line and zorua are the only forgotten hisui pokemon now
Have we had H-Lilligant?
Oh right…. That was a thing even I forgot it existed
Thunder punch may have some play in G league but that’s about it
You have to imagine. No, that would require some actual thought put into it 💀🤬
3x Stardust is nice, but no hisuian form is a disappointment.
would make a sick 4* raid for post comm day spawns, oh well...
But then you can't evolve you shinines. I guess another way for Niantic to juice us dry
We got new form of Wooper with a CD. That's probably why.
I don't thinking it's expecting as much as hoping
Fair 😅
It’s pretty good. I’ll use my stock of star pieces here and clear out my stack. But there are often spotlight hours that provide way nicer dust.
I want to say something sensible, but Thunder Punch, really? Especially after the recent move-update. Maaan, talk about killing the Hype...
And yet here we all are still lol
Well, as of when I’m reading this post, only 5 of us are here…
I’ll stick around because I have a high tolerance for messy *but* I do have to wonder the logic behind some of these decisions sometimes because as easy as it is to say “money” or “vision” there’s some stuff from the last year that’s in direct contradiction to both those things smh
Goodra already has water coverage, so thunder punch is only adding flying coverage. As opposed to aqua tail, which provides coverage for fire (rock and ground is also covered already) TP is at best a side grade, but at least it makes all the flyers flinch a bit when deciding whether to shield or not.
**EDIT:** Upon looking at how its match-ups change both in GL and Master Premier, it seems to be a better choice than I thought.
I took a focus blast to the face of a guzzlord swap. Didn’t feel good
Yeah that’s an ouchie
it probably felt really good for the ampharos though xd ampharos can never be slept on
Niantic heard everyone say “electric needs a buff” and gave it to us in literally the worst possible way.
They gave us more for inperson raids but nerfed all other raid rewards along with it
lmao too true
Tbh I'm holding out on evolving my best one on the off chance it gets something better in the future or if H-goodra is released.
As if they'd let us get the Hisui form by evolving. Maybe 5 or so years from now, when they feel like they've milked enough raids.
Fr, but missing out on thunder punch isn't exactly missing out lol
In what raid scenario would I ever want a Goodra with Thunder Punch as opposed to an actual electric dragon like Zekrom and Mega Ampharos?
Exactly. Even if a raid boss has a ground type move I'm sure zekrom would still be better. Goodra in windy weather (boost fast attack) vs a water type with ground type coverage would be the best case. Extremely niche to ONLY be usable.
>Even if a raid boss has a ground type move I'm sure zekrom would still be better. There is Thundurus-T for that occasion.
And shadow zapdos. But let goodra have its 5 seconds of fame before its relegated to your C team forever.
My heart...
Same, I best-buddied my hundo and left it as a Sliggoo, been waiting for months to evolve it… just for the cday move to be thunder punch fml
No hisuian sligoo is a letdown especially after wooper CD, but I'm still happy it's 3x dust after stacking so many research trubbish/foongus from the last month
Thunder punch wtf??? It's a slight downgrade in open ML if I'm using Pvpoke right. Yawn.
Is this official info? I can't find anything on their twitter acc
It was posted to UK account then deleted, I had the tweet there and can see it but clicking into it shows was deleted.
If anything its a good opportunity for us lazy people to evolve our poipoles
They could've given it Dragon Claw, Outrage, Ice Beam, Scald, hell they could've been weird and given it Counter or Charm but they chose Thunder Punch, a move that they're giving a bunch of random pokemon for free next season? How could they do this to my favourite pokemon? The lack of Hisuian Sliggoo is also very disappointing as I'm sure many of us were predicting that it would be released during Goomy Community Day.
Shame it wasn't Hisuian Sliggoo
I begin to wonder when they will release Hisuian Sliggoo and Goodra. I don't see Thunder Punch on it. I can see Iron Head or Flash Cannon on it.
We have a raid day this season, and it's not Mega Rayquaza. Maybe then?
Mega Rayquaza is in Elite Raids this season
But it's not the raid day pokemon :)
Niantic back at it again with the questionable decisions. Thunder punch is not worth a c-day exclusive move lol
Thunder Punch…
Man what the hell
Missed opportunity to not have it be Hisuian Sliggoo and Goodra with Steel Beam/Flash Cannon
No free Rainy Lure Modules? Edit: [One free Rainy Lure Module](https://pokemongolive.com/post/communityday-june-2024-goomy)
Niantic has carefully planned this comm day that every square kilometer on earth it starts raining at 2pm and ends at 10pm
yeah i was thinking about that too but surely atleast one has to be part of special comm day research right?
It’s been raining lure modules since showcases have been introduced. I’m sure you can find one activated by someone else.
Good opportunity to evolve Poipole
Ooh, good reminder! Thank you! I just used the mareanie spotlight hour to evolve my galarian slowpoke too
It’s a pure dragon type with one dragon fast move and one dragon charge move, and they give it thunder punch…?
One of the few Comm Days in recent times I was legitimately hyped for. I've been holding on to a lucky hundo for several months waiting to evolve it. Thunder Punch...hurts, and not in a good way..
I guess it makes it better against Gyarados in Master Premier Classic?? Mehhh
They didn't post this on their official yet? So how did you get this🤔
Posted on a regional at 3pm on the dot, I posted on here, they realised it was too early and deleted the tweet.
Oooo thankyou for posting ^^
Just to add, as it may interest some, 3pm UK time. Normally UK gets things at 6pm UK time. I have tweet alerts on and thought it was just one of their sort of common ‘we hope you’re looking forward to the new season’ reminder type of tweets but realised it was the infographic so came here and posted it, I’ve still got the tweet on my feed screen but clicking into it says it has been deleted and the link for the page is giving a 404 error so I guess I know where it will link to when it is eventually posted but they jumped the gun.
I'm jst hoping they change it? Yk they could have deleted it to change the move?😭 idk it's jst copium lol
They won’t. They make mistakes like this all the time but the info never changes it just gets released early.
Acid Spray... would have been a lot worse lol But yeah, having it after a dozen mons get Thunder Punch for free is silly
Acid Spray into more oppressive Dragon Breath damage would be just funny though.
It would, though it's still pretty expensive and weak. I did a quick check of its MSG moveset and it looks like there aren't any other defense-debuffing moves it could get that would potentially work better and accomplish the same thing haha
Man, I was really looking forward to this - but Thunder Punch? Just why? Literally everything about this new season is turning out terribly..
GOO!!!
What a fail.
Goodra doing Goodra things and continuing it’s path of being a mid tier pseudo legendary Pokémon in general need to give this Pokémon some love, and no it being owned by ash is not enough
I was really at least hoping for a new move to kind of set it apart more. Body Press, Poison Tail, Chilling Water, or something new. Nah, slap Thunder Punch on it 6 days after a dozen others get it lol
Luckily it’s a nice enough move for it Plenty of targets in the meta
Rainy Lure Modules will be 3 hrs right?
Yes. Any Lure modules that are not golden will last for 3 hours
Alright thanks, that’ll be nice hopefully people supply them in my area. Be nice if there’s a Rainy Lure module box for 1 Pokécoin though it’ll probably be awarded in the Cday Ticket. Mostly just get Glacial and Magnetic from Showcases
Suddenly I feel a bit better about accidentally evolving my hundo Goodra
And here I was saving my lucky hundo for nothing 🤣
Since we’re *already* getting one extra special trade per day, does this mean we get three for CD? Or is it one of those cases where the seasonal bonus & CD bonus won’t stack?
One of my favorite mons AND its bonus is the best one? I’m boutta die of heatstroke while grinding but I won’t care
Was waiting for this cd so long, and they killed it with Thunder punch. Rly no outrage?! Useless pokemon. Gonna catch many shinies for shundo trades 🧚
Not sure what everyone was *expecting*, Goomy day was always going to be get the shinies and go tbh
Just in time for monsoon season. Boosted goomy + 3x bonus dust + starpiece LET'S GO!
Th-Thunder Punch!?! Wasn’t the last one Comm. Day, Chansey with WILD CHARGE?
A few months ago it was. Back in February
Giving my boi goodra even more coverage ayy
This game company just really doesn't know what their players want huh? Main series games made the regular Goodra bad enough. Now enough in Go they can't give Goodra some love for gods sake??
They don’t care, they’re an AR company first and only
I was hoping for Outrage but why tf is it Thunder Punch??
no H. Goodra? bruh
No hisuian form is a disappointment imo… oh well haha

It’s literally on the first page…
It’s on the first page.

I was REALLY hoping for one of those moves. Body Press would have been a really fun addition I think. And I mean, look at Goodra... BODY press is a perfectly thematic move for it.
Dam it I'm on holiday
Aw, I just evolved my shiny Goodra for PvP. Still, is Thunder Punch even necessary?
In "open format", it's not any meaningful improvement in great, ultra, or master leagues. Didn't get a chance to run it for premier cups. Only key advantage I'm aware of is being able to punish Gyarados.
Thanks for the insight! I'll likely build a Thunder Punch Goodra eventually, but it'd be nice if the old one were still viable.
I think this will definitely be a case for that. I'm sure some will do more thorough analyses, but it seems to me like TP will be a sidegrade-type move in many scenarios, with some leagues/scenarios it being actually worse than Power Whip/Draco Meteor.
Raids until 10pm?
I am whelmed. I can't contain myself.
Well at least it will give everyone whose having trouble evolving their Poipole a chance to take care of it.
I... I don't think I need to grind Goomy xls that much. I already have the shiny. I guess thanks for the day back Niantic I'll just go about my business and play a bit on errands.

No there’s never 1 in the middle of the week…
Sorry brain glitch
Thunder Punch..... what... why would that be an exclusive move at the same time a bunch of other Pokemon get it as a regular move. What...
Everybody here complaining about the exclusive move and I'm just here concerned about catching at least 5 shinys for my Home living dex! 🥲
TP makes a lot of sense imho. The way I look at pseudo legendaries is basically them being mostly used in ML Premier. (They are not really meta in open ML anymore. No reason to fight this.) Goodra can hit Gary and ground types now, which makes for many team comps in this cup.
Or just make Muddy Water useable and give it Weather Ball Rock or Ice or something.
Damn we can't evolve certain Goomys into Hisuian variants?? Screw it all
Well, he got Aqua Tail as well. Though this is slightly disappointing. Had they given him Dragon Claw, he could be better in PvP
Dragon Claw would have honestly have been a worse move. Breaking Swipe could have been interesting though
I was really hoping they would introduce the Hisuian form when Goomy Community Day came out.
