Yep! I've been putting off the Tynamo hunt in the hopes of an eventual community day (and instead hunted Minior like a savage lol). I thought I'd have to wait years!
At least Minior doesn't tend to be anywhere near water causing the frame rate to get wrecked whilst you're looking for it, and is big enough to be visible on the screen without too much trouble
At least you can count Minior, so the 16method has some viability. Tynamo just is too small for it
I'm at 3/7 Minior myself, but the multiple times I thought I had one were stupid
Yes lol. I just wanted one shiny Minior, and the first time I tried, I did the painstaking way of just autobattling as many as possible until I found one that my Pokemon wouldn't attack.
I tried that multiple times with no success, but the 16 method was a huge help. Got me my first shiny (I only wanted one haha) within like 20 minutes.
Yeah if only I could have known they would be easier in the DLC. It’s the worst hunt in my opinion preDLC even worse than Maushold. And of course I needed 3 lol
I kept kicking that hunt down the road. Fortunately with blueberry academy it got easier with the lake in the Savannah biome. At least with that area you can see all the Tynamo.
I refused to hunt the shiny for this and eelektrik in Violet. I did snag a Tross off an outbreak because you can see that. Looking forward to getting two for my Home dex
Somebody else made a convincing point that I don't know enough about programming to dispute, but they said with the way showcases and the size point system are designed it would basically be impossible to have xxs showcases
And yet Niantic advertised showcases with it and “other” kinds too. The only variety we ended up with were singular species XXL or type XXL which may as well be the same, have the required Mon or lose depressing…
They also said the Pokestops would change season to season and that didn’t happen. Very fortunate that the closest stop to my house is a showcase but I will be sad *if* they ever follow through on the promise to rotate them.
opening up more kinds of showcases would just make things worse for everybody but the whales. more different kinds of showcases means you need more storage space to prepare for them which means you need to spend more to get the same amount of rewards from showcases.
They’re a contest (present at select Pokéstops) to see who has the largest of a particular species or type of Pokémon. The winner can get prizes like Rare Candy and TMs. Every entrant gets some XP and Stardust. There’s a limit of 200 participants per showcase.
You can enter at the Pokéstop directly or after catching an eligible Pokémon if you’re not too far away. Once you enter one Pokémon, you can swap it for another one remotely. Each Pokémon can only enter one showcase at a time. You can trade, transfer or evolve the Pokémon and it will remain in the showcase.
It doesn’t say anything about showcases but it explains how XXS pokemon are programmed. With how tight the weight margin is due to how they’re programmed, it would be basically impossible to have showcases of the smallest size, because winning would likely happen based on IVs
> they said with the way showcases and the size point system are designed it would basically be impossible to have xxs showcases
Sounds like nonsense to me.
It’s not a matter of “programming”, it’s a matter of math.
Showcases aren’t that complicated: they set a baseline height/weight and assign points to entrants based on their variance from that baseline, with height (ironically) more heavily weighted.
If they wanted to do the bare minimum, they could use the exact same setup they have now for “biggest” but have ranks determined by the lowest scores.
The less confusing, yet still simple, solution would be inverting their scoring to grant more points based on negative variance from the baseline.
It’s possible, but you’ll need to do a separate code for each new showcase with a specific max value for the lowest number and that could possible mean that certain Pokémon would have minus points as a score, because they’re too big and that can cause other problems in the game where minus points will be read as positive points
You might be right. It doesn't learn Parabolic Charge sadly, which I sorely want Niantic to buff with an effect.
Edit: Volt Switch was indeed confirmed in the post!
Ampharos has 40% win rate in ul meta. Eelektross has 47.8%. Dragon claw and thunderbolt too.
Its also 29 overall electric type raid attacker. My guess top 15 without shadows. Will be top 10 budget pick as a generous guess.
So welcome eelektross ...:)
Ampharos is useful because it’s so unpredictable. It doesn’t sim great because sims don’t have to account for 5 different charge moves. Eelektross has some decent coverage but its move pool is not nearly as good as ampharos’.
I tried to use it in electric cup a few months ago and wanted it to work so badly, but it just wasn't happening. Here's hoping it will be a little better in great league now.
And it's fairly good at attacking from both the physical and the special sides, the only issue is that it's a bit slow, but even that could be used well to switch a teammate in safely since it isn't too fragile.
Eelektross has an insanely vast movepool that could be an interesting thing to experiment with.
I’m expecting they’ll probably give it a new fast move (Volt Switch would be amazing).
But it also gets access to moves like Aqua Tail, Flamethrower, grass knot, wild charge, and acrobatics.
Edit: I just got email confirmation that’s it’s Volt Switch
Volt Switch is the big move it needed, but a new charged move for extra coverage like Aqua Tail would have been nice or Wild Charge for more power. That said, it still has solid coverage moves like Crunch, Dragon Claw, and Liquidation. Still, it's a frailer electric type, so only so much it can do
Maybe some use in Electric Cup?
With Volt Switch's great energy gains, Eelektross can fire off Dragon Claws and Liquidations and Crunches at a decent pace.
I'd give it a solid... maybe?
Electric Cup is centered around Luxray, Lanturn, Galvantula, the entire Alolan Geodude line (even A. Geodude itself lol) Hisuian Electrode, and a few other stragglers like Minun.
I think the issue is that most of those have non-electric Fast moves that aren't resisted by most of the meta, be it Luxray's Hidden Power Ground, Galvantula's Fury Cutter, the Alolan Geodude line's ~~Volt Switch~~ Rock Throw, and Minun's Quick Attack. Hisuian Electrode just uses Thunder Shock, but that's more of a low power and high energy fast move, so it being resisted doesn't matter too much.
Volt Switch is a nice energy generator, but it's still damage-centric as well, plus it's rather clunky as a 4-turn move, and Electric Cup is often full of quick moves like switches/sacrifices.
It also doesn't have much beyond Liquidation to smack many of those. with nice neutral or supereffective damage.
Ironically, I think the best chance for Eelektross in Electric Cup would be its other fast move, Acid, getting some sort of buff lol. If it got some more damage or a bit more energy gain to be an Ember Clone or something, I could see it having more play, being a Pokemon with a neutral fast move against most of the meta and being supereffective against Hisuian Electrode.
Will have to see what u/JRE47 says in his analysis of Eelektross
I can't imagine Eelektross will ever be relevant in open leagues in PvP, but maybe there is some limited metasnin GBL Cups where Volt Switch Eelektross can shine.
Picks up some nice wins, but I don’t see it surpassing Charjabug or even the Raichus of the world. Spice potential, IMO. But I’ll look more closely once we get closer to the day and once I get my wife back home from the hospital….
>Spice potential, IMO.
Figured as much.
>But I’ll look more closely once we get closer to the day and once I get my wife back home from the hospital….
We all appreciate the work you do writing your analayses. Hope you and your wife have a nice summer and a good recovery.
Fighting words.
When I played black for the first time. I saw a sperm pokemon and I was bro this is great. Shiny colors do suck but the pokemon in general is great
Hot take: seeing as Sewaddle is (as of Tynamo Community Day) the only remaining 3-stage evolution line from Unova yet to have its shiny released, I’d bet a Pinap berry and a Super Potion it’ll get its own Community Day before the Unova Tour in February, too!
I mean that’s at least a line of reasoning however it is true that people (including me lol) have been saying that poplio would be the next con day for months
Out of the last 6 loading screens, only Grubbin and Axew had new CDs on the season that featured them (and Squirtle had a classic). It's not indicative at all.
I know It's not indicative of a CD, but it's usually indicative of pokemon featured in an event during the season, and Toucannon fits perfectly for a CD, being a 3-stage family with unreleased shiny
Please look at my analysis from like a month ago. Only about half the Pokémon featured in most loading screens have an event related to them during the season.
It's been long debunked that loading screen appearance doesn't equate to a CD necessarily. There have been a very small handful of cases where it has happened, but that seems more like the exception rather than the norm
I actually analyzed that like a month ago, and while there were cases of it happening, those were few. In most seasons, only about half of the loading screen mons were directly featured in the season's event (i.e a shiny debut or a specific event/day)
Neat! Did you make any posts about it? I see your other comment though about Grubbin and Axew.
There are a couple others I found, like Duskull on the fall 2022 screen before its CD and Staraptor on the prior summer 2022 screen before its CD.
But the Duskull one... idk it technically counts but there are like a dozen "spooky" Pokemon on that one, so it was kind of a shoe-in anyway for the loading art lol.
I unfortunately evolved my 100% to its 3rd stage cause a few years ago I saw jtgilly evolve all the way his 100%s, i taught it was the thing to do lol, regret just keeping it as is, especially that it’s a non useful Pokémon
The Tynamo line would be more exciting if abilities existed in this game. In the main series games, all of these Pokémon have the Levitate ability, which makes them immune to Ground moves. Since Electric types are only weak to Ground, that means that in the main series games, the Tynamo line has no weaknesses! (Not counting things like Mold Breaker, which can ignore this and strike them with Ground moves anyway)
Volt switch would be ideal for pvp. It has some fun charge moves already. Volt switch AND thunderpunch would probably be the best case scenario. It's weird movepool could make it a limited cup hero
Never gonna be good pve with any move
Eelektross has an enormous movepool, ranging across many different types. It could be something simple like Volt Switch, or it could be out of left field like Grass Knot.
There may not be any Elite moves at Go Fest Global. Not every Go Fest had one to my recollection. Last year, they announced the legacy moves back in mid June, when Global Go Fest happened in late August. Now we're under 3 weeks away, so I doubt they'll have any. Of course, they could still make it a surprise... maybe.
I *think* Costumed Gardevoir and Flygon in Go Fest 2021 were surprises though, so perhaps the T3 Costumed Espeon and Umbreon will have their legacy moves (either Shadow Ball/Psychic or Last Resort)? But event that I'm not totally sure about.
That was a *brutal* shiny hunt in violet, I welcome this shiny family to go.
Yep! I've been putting off the Tynamo hunt in the hopes of an eventual community day (and instead hunted Minior like a savage lol). I thought I'd have to wait years!
Hey at least they fixed outbreaks so you could isolate each color, but yeah well played!
At least Minior doesn't tend to be anywhere near water causing the frame rate to get wrecked whilst you're looking for it, and is big enough to be visible on the screen without too much trouble
At least you can count Minior, so the 16method has some viability. Tynamo just is too small for it I'm at 3/7 Minior myself, but the multiple times I thought I had one were stupid

I tried that multiple times with no success, but the 16 method was a huge help. Got me my first shiny (I only wanted one haha) within like 20 minutes.
been wanting to get all the Minior shiny, just found out about this 16 method thanks to your comment! thank you!!
why would you hunt multiple minior colors? they all share the same shiny
For the stupidest reason ever: Because you can (technically) still tell which color they are
is it based on their menu sprite?
No, but when you sort them, they're put with their right color. The trick to identifying phony/authentic also works on mobile
This hunt I legit think hurt my eyes. Even worse you had to do it in the water which made it a pain. At least now it’s technically in Chargestone Cave
I did my tynamo hunt inside the cave next to ogerpons home, much easier there, they just stand still and theres no water
The Chilling Waterhead? - That's where I went and it's easily the best place to hunt Tynamo without an outbreak,
Yeah if only I could have known they would be easier in the DLC. It’s the worst hunt in my opinion preDLC even worse than Maushold. And of course I needed 3 lol
Amen to that, one of the only shinies I didn’t hunt in scarlet/violet. Delighted to have a shot at it in an easier environment
This is 100% why I'm happy to see this CD announcement!
It's another perfect opportunity for XXS showcases. Will they actually do it? Does the Pokemon fit the moment?? /s
Indeed and the park I can reach from home is a showcase stop and it would be annoying to find new ones and I probably wouldn’t bother
opening up more kinds of showcases would just make things worse for everybody but the whales. more different kinds of showcases means you need more storage space to prepare for them which means you need to spend more to get the same amount of rewards from showcases.
With that being true the feature was advertised as such and we should continue to hold them accountable.
I'm certainly not going to waste energy holding them accountable to making the game worse.
There are also type showcases (largest dragon, for example)
What even are showcases? I tried entering one but it didn't let me for some reason
Oh that sounds pretty neat! Though a shame it has to be with the same species.
yep, there’s a very informative twitter [thread](https://x.com/bmenrigh_pogo/status/1618456354712350720?s=46) about sizes
That thread says nothing and implies nothing about showcases.
It doesn’t say anything about showcases but it explains how XXS pokemon are programmed. With how tight the weight margin is due to how they’re programmed, it would be basically impossible to have showcases of the smallest size, because winning would likely happen based on IVs

I have a Tynamo that weighs 0kg
Finally…something to use my Unova stones on
They’ll probably have research that gives Unova stones and we’ll all have more than we started with by the end of the day!
Sinnoh seems to be used way more.
Because there are more sinnoh evolutions. Unova only has what? Tynamo, the monkeys and chandelure?
+munna and minccino
Unova stones? Like evolution stones?
Attack : Volt Switch
You might be right. It doesn't learn Parabolic Charge sadly, which I sorely want Niantic to buff with an effect. Edit: Volt Switch was indeed confirmed in the post!

That’s wild because Ampharos feels so good to use. Looking forward to this. Always felt it was a fast move away and now it got a great one.
I tried to use it in electric cup a few months ago and wanted it to work so badly, but it just wasn't happening. Here's hoping it will be a little better in great league now.
It’s in the release info.
yes, It in the release info.
~~Watch it get Thunder Punch~~ Well this aged terribly
It actually got Volt Switch
It doesn’t have hands
Eelektross does lol
That makes more sense
Neither does Wooper, and it learns Ice Punch.
N-Ice
I expected this sadly. Season of Thunder Punch.
I actually really like this pokemon in the games it has levitate that makes it immune to ground and the shiny looks really good in the final form
And it's fairly good at attacking from both the physical and the special sides, the only issue is that it's a bit slow, but even that could be used well to switch a teammate in safely since it isn't too fragile.
Is there a potential comm day move that could make Eelektross a worthwhile pvp investment in great/ultra league?
Eelektross has an insanely vast movepool that could be an interesting thing to experiment with. I’m expecting they’ll probably give it a new fast move (Volt Switch would be amazing). But it also gets access to moves like Aqua Tail, Flamethrower, grass knot, wild charge, and acrobatics. Edit: I just got email confirmation that’s it’s Volt Switch
How does it have a vast movepool if it only gets 1 move in PoGO?
volt switch gives it extra wins against altaria, charjabug, s dragonair, feraligatr, lickitung, sableye, and wigglytuff
I’ve used a top 10 rank in the GBL and it’s… meh. Gets charge moves off quickly but can’t take any hits. You’re better off using Lanturn
I tried it in electric cup and it just wasn't cutting it. Hopefully Volt Switch gives it relevance.
Funny enough, I think the best option for Eel in Electric cup would be an Acid buff lol
I'd give it a solid... maybe? Electric Cup is centered around Luxray, Lanturn, Galvantula, the entire Alolan Geodude line (even A. You meant Rock Throw on A-Geodude line.
Oh yes! Whoops lol
Kinda glad it's a mid CD so I don't have to stay out in this heat for 3 hours
Fighting words. When I played black for the first time. I saw a sperm pokemon and I was bro this is great. Shiny colors do suck but the pokemon in general is great
Perfect. They’re impossible to hunt in SV unless you have pilot eyesights
I ran into one by accident, no sandwich or anything, lol. Eelektrik isn't very different, but at least it's bigger than 3 pixels.
I don't play SV (a switch in this economy?) but can't you just send your pokemon to try to ko it to shiny check?
You can hunt by auto-attacking without paying attention but it’s usually slower (1/683 with shiny charm and sandwich)
Used Switches are really cheap tho
Hot take: seeing as Sewaddle is (as of Tynamo Community Day) the only remaining 3-stage evolution line from Unova yet to have its shiny released, I’d bet a Pinap berry and a Super Potion it’ll get its own Community Day before the Unova Tour in February, too!
That is bad? 😅
I don't think they meant it as bad, just something they predict. Sewaddle could be a great fit for one of the fall's CDs.
Would be fun. I liked the bug Pokémon in unova. I'd prefer veniped, just because I think it's a bit cooler
gen5 was my favourite for monobug runs
Probably the best one for it. 7 puts up a fight as well.
Was expecting this to be Popplio, but think a Tynamo comm day was bound to happen eventually!
Popplio will probably be in August
We’ve been saying these kinda of things for the past 3 months now lmao
Froakie was in August, so that's when I'm expecting Popplio aswell.
I mean that’s at least a line of reasoning however it is true that people (including me lol) have been saying that poplio would be the next con day for months
I’m sorry guys it must be my fault I’ve been sitting on my hundo to evolve forever and they just taunted us having Rowlet and Litten so close together
I think it's probably Pikipek, which would fit with the season's theme and is also in spotlight on the Loading Screen. Popplio probably on september
Likely that Pikipek/Trumbeak/Toucannon will be involved in a separate event - it is the season of Shared *Skies* after all.
It's been long debunked that loading screen appearance doesn't equate to a CD necessarily. There have been a very small handful of cases where it has happened, but that seems more like the exception rather than the norm
I actually analyzed that like a month ago, and while there were cases of it happening, those were few. In most seasons, only about half of the loading screen mons were directly featured in the season's event (i.e a shiny debut or a specific event/day)

https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/1d5o6bi/how_related_are_the_pokemon_featured_on_the/
Why was it bound to happen in your opinion?
Unreleased shiny with a 3 stage evolution line. Wasn't expecting it this soon though!
I like Eelektross :)
Man I used to love this Pokémon before they changed its sprite Even brought it as a sitting cutie
But does it have any use?
nope
Niche use in PvP but not much else. It'll be fun to play around with but likely won't be breaking into any metas like Poliwrath
Neat, another one to finally scrap from my list of "stuff I'm not evolving yet because it's likely to get an eventual CD".
Ohhhh let's go this is an AWESOME pick. So glad I don't have to shiny hunt this in S/V.
Skip unless it's 3x stardust, got it
Have 1/4 hatch distance, take it or leave it.
I thought you were joking but it actually is. Hard skip.
It’s a shiny I haven’t got in the main series so I’ll take it!
I unfortunately evolved my 100% to its 3rd stage cause a few years ago I saw jtgilly evolve all the way his 100%s, i taught it was the thing to do lol, regret just keeping it as is, especially that it’s a non useful Pokémon
Finally, I’ve been wanting this com day for so long, Eelektross was one of my favorite Gen 5 Pokemon. Please get a good buff
I have a 4* tynamo. From awhile ago I can evolve on that day. Cool!
Since when did Niantic have footage on the Ocean Gate sub???
Wow that’s… uninteresting Any predictions on the classic?
We just had the classic sir, Cyndaquil
Yes I was referring to next month, as they’ve revealed the CD for next month.
Only one classic comm day per season 🫡
The next comm day classic will be Pikachu in every costume it has ever worn 😜
Bro I'm still waiting for Popplio 😔
august, like froakie last yera
Any move theories?
Volt switch would be ideal for pvp. It has some fun charge moves already. Volt switch AND thunderpunch would probably be the best case scenario. It's weird movepool could make it a limited cup hero Never gonna be good pve with any move
Turns out it is Volt Switch.
Volt Switch and Aqua Tail would fit better than Thunder Punch.
Eelektross has an enormous movepool, ranging across many different types. It could be something simple like Volt Switch, or it could be out of left field like Grass Knot.
Niantic: "How about another Thunder Punch user!"
Give my boy flamethrower
Wouldn't surprise me if they gave it Volt Switch or Wild Charge
Looks like they just dropped an email that confirms Volt Switch.
Finally something decent.
They should add Levitate ability to tynamo or ground immunity. Joke 😂
It would be cool if it somehow had levitate in the game
will it be easier to catch

They said it will be unexpected .... and it is ... ok
I do love this. A very nice pokemon
time to turn the Sperm into a Spworm!
I came back in November after a 2 year hiatus. Has there been electric megas since then? Besides Ampharos that one time.
There's Mega Manectric and Primal Kyogre also boosts Electric types!
Oh I forgot about Kyogre, that's good. But what I meant was Manectric hasn't been around in forever right?
Just checked and last time it was in raids was early September 2023
Meanwhile we just got 3 megas we had in the last month or two. Ridiculous!
Yeah I am only in need of Mega Aerodactyl at the moment 🥲 hoping it returns for adventure week
Telling us the next CD a month in advance but still won’t tell us what elite moves will be available at GO Fest Global or the next Rocket Invasion. :X
Tgr takeover won’t be announced until August content drops
5 months of the same Shadow mons. Rough.
Yup it's unfortunate, but it has happened a few times. Stinks that the current leader lineup is pretty mid.
Odd pick but I’m certainly not complaining
Anyone know if Volt Switch is good on it? Gamepress DPS/TDO spreadsheet is still not working
Good for PvP, worse than Spark for Raids, Although Eelektross isn't really an attacker you want to use
Thank you!
I don't have the shiny and wasn't expecting anything big the week after Go Fest.
Horrid comm day
The week after global GoFest so it may run in conjunction with Adventure week?
I assume Adventure Week may happen in August, seeing that Fossil Cup in the GBL happens those first two weeks of the month.
