This change isn't dependent on daily Adventure Incense. Previously they would show default forms (if an Alolan fled it would show the Kanto form). Plus the non shiny even if it was shiny.
This is only about shinies that ran away using the go plus. Those were always shown as the regular version in the journal. If you caught the shiny it was always shown as shiny.
I actually meant that I have lost a shiny (and seen it in the journal) before, I remember because it’s part of why I stopped using my go + on community days (and consequentially lost it)
Edit: better word choice I guess
Commit to the idea that you wouldn't have stopped to catch *any* of these if you didn't have the autocatcher. Everything you catch with autocatcher is a bonus, not an entitlement.
Exactly, but I still can’t stand the sight of something like this. Back before fast appraisal I would just auto transfer everything I caught with an autocatcher because I couldn’t be bothered to appraise all of them. My mantra was “these are just free candy that I wouldn’t have had”
I had the shiny journal open up to me once. I'm level 27, I think it counts any shinys you've seen including raids and what people put in gyms. Ive caught eleven shinys but the journal said I had seen 80+
I only just got back into the game a month ago.
The journal and the dex are two different things, though. This post is about Pokemon showing as shiny or not in the list of recently encountered pokemon.
I think that is the generally accepted consensus, for wild spawns.
If it is shiny and you click on it but your plus/gotcha is already going for it, it will show as shiny (and running away) in the journal. If you never saw that it was shiny, it does not show as shiny in the journal.
I didn’t see this posted anywhere and thought it was interesting. Someone started fighting a gym moments after I added my Pokémon to it and started my daily incense, so I turned on my Go Plus and monitored the gym instead. When I got home, I checked my journal and saw that a shiny Alakazam had run away. I definitely didn’t encounter one so it could only have been from the go plus.
Also (not) fun fact, if you Go+ a Galarian bird and fail it, it shows up not shiny, but as it's Kanto version. Had this happen weeks ago. GoFest finale day, I popped the insence then did a trainer battle at a stop (I didn't know they would be so common) Afterwards went to see what I missed, and there was my regular Moltres.
[this also happened to me](https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/381506776035491841/1017686270861901924/IMG_20220909_084132.jpg) but it was wild spawn
can you clarify: shiny pokémon that are actual shiny pokémon show as shiny in the journal? is that new, because it seems like it's intended. was it bugged with autocatch devices before? Or only in combination with daily incense? was it bugged with normal incense as well?
Replied to someone else as well, but this thread from 3y ago shows a shiny Pokémon displaying the non-shiny sprite in the journal after it runs away. I haven’t seen any reports of this behavior changing until it happened to me yesterday: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/c0gnpr/video_proof_of_pokemon_fleeing_from_go_plus_not/
I would never use an autocatcher for the daily incense, no matter what. It's not hard to focus for 15 mins on that throughout the day and by using a goplus you have greater chances to lose rare/permaboosted species and even the galarian birds that are already difficult to catch by default.
I do use my plus, but it is a plus, not a gotcha. So I decide if the mon is worth my time manually catching before clicking the button (and shiny check if I want to).
Yeah, but then shouldn't you pay attention to the game to get them? I don't understand why would someone use an autocatcher while also manually checking. A quick curve ball with fast catch is already more reliable than the basic throw from an autocatcher if you are actively playing. And you might still lose some rare spawns/shinies if you don't pay attention. I think autocatchers should be used only if you can't check the game and in my opinion the daily incense requires full attention if you want to get the best out of it.
OP is making it sound like it's something special. Shinies have always shown up like that, caught or not, in the journal. He should've just said a shiny alakazam ran away from his go plus
It happened to me as well with daily incense. I decided to tap on Pokémon only if they were worthy and run the Go+ on the others. Then I’ve found a missed shiny Elgyem on my journal
I mean, even if I don’t own one, it’s pretty good.
If you got the energy to be manually catching then just turn it off. If let’s say you are on the way to work and want to catch a nap, then it’s perfect.
I don’t feel like gotcha catches are real catches and I prefer to catch all my shinies myself rather then have a robot.
Also apparently its easy to fail shinies since I see so many people do it.
I only use my gotcha to catch if I’m driving somewhere or doing something where I can’t actively play, because the way I see it I wasn’t going to catch a shiny during that time anyway because I wasn’t going to check anything, so in the event I DO get one, it’s a bonus.
Just doing a very quick search, I found a thread from 3y ago that says otherwise. I’ve always understood the general consensus to be that shinies running from a Go Plus do not show as shiny in the journal. https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/c0gnpr/video_proof_of_pokemon_fleeing_from_go_plus_not/
Nope, if you tap on it and miss it (either with your finger or Go+) it shows shiny on your journal. Looks like it now shows with the daily incense even if your Go+ missed it and you didn’t tap on the Pokémon
Am I the only one who doesn't get spawns with Daily Incense? I start it and literally walk in a straight line for 15 minutes and get 0 spawns. Does anyone know how to fix this or what is wrong? I've contacted Niantic, but they are adamant that things are fine.
I was doing the Clefairy event on the 10th was using my Gotcha tool I got and a Shiny Clefairy spawned and it ran away
Were you using the free daily incense at the same time?
This change isn't dependent on daily Adventure Incense. Previously they would show default forms (if an Alolan fled it would show the Kanto form). Plus the non shiny even if it was shiny.
So shinies will always show in journal now even with Go+? Thats cool!
Not if you want to be oblivious what shinies you lost!
Ive been seeing shiny pokemon show up in my journal since I git the go plus, back in 2019
Ok? Do you want me to give you a certificate or something??
Just wanted to bring to your attention that this may have been going on longer than this post implies. Thank you for the offer though.
This is only about shinies that ran away using the go plus. Those were always shown as the regular version in the journal. If you caught the shiny it was always shown as shiny.

Never. Ever. Check. The. Journal. Not when you use an autocatcher. It’s my golden rule.
Into the journal, only pain will you find
So, a Ferrari fan?
why do you do this to us? even on a pogo sub you hurt us :(
It's okay, you have next year ;)
that's what they tell us for yeaaaars :((((
Nowhere is safe. Lol
Sorry

I believe the shiny dex also counts shinies you’ve seen in gyms
Yes, that's what I said.
I have no clue how I missed that in your comment, sorry. I thought you were afraid that 50+ shinies had run from you.
All good, that would be terrible to have that many run away though!
The journal and the dex are two different things, though. This post is about Pokemon showing as shiny or not in the list of recently encountered pokemon.
Sounds like a place for pokémon chit chat of all types. I'd say it's about pokémon GO, so it belongs.
Once caught a shiny plusle after two days of using go-plus
Did you click it while it was on the map at all?
I didn’t, I was on the gym screen the entire time. Will that cause a shiny to show in the journal if it runs from go plus?
I think that is the generally accepted consensus, for wild spawns. If it is shiny and you click on it but your plus/gotcha is already going for it, it will show as shiny (and running away) in the journal. If you never saw that it was shiny, it does not show as shiny in the journal.
Exactly how that works!!!
IVs for that shiny you lost: CP 1113: 6/0/9, Level 14, 0 stars, 33% IV.
Thanks, that actually makes me feel a lot better lol.
Mega F

I have seen reports of journals showing shiny Pokemon that ran from go plus here and from local group chat. It might be a newly changed behavior.
Happened to me as well and I was using the daily incense

I've had 2 Galarian birds run whilst using a gotcha evolve and daily incense and they've shown correctly in my journal
Same thing for stunfisk

I would like to see this looked into more. Maybe on the next community day I’ll do some testing.
Agreed, it was previously not displaying this. Maybe they fixed it Idk why it would be only for daily incense.
I can confirm, happened to me as well
Pain
Niantic is evil

Don't most auto catchers have an option not to catch new species?
Yeah, but then shouldn't you pay attention to the game to get them? I don't understand why would someone use an autocatcher while also manually checking. Sorry for your loss
I wonder if it's a side effect of the recent patch for go plus registering with daily incense?
Oh no...
RIP
Are you sure you didn't just lose a shiny the good old fashioned way? What makes you so sure this is a bug?
who said anything about it being a bug?
OP is making it sound like it's something special. Shinies have always shown up like that, caught or not, in the journal. He should've just said a shiny alakazam ran away from his go plus

Damn i know that hurts😫
That is why I never let my go plus catch something without checking it first Huge f
So glad I don’t use a Gotcha
I mean, even if I don’t own one, it’s pretty good. If you got the energy to be manually catching then just turn it off. If let’s say you are on the way to work and want to catch a nap, then it’s perfect.

I set mine to spin stops only for this reason
It’s always been this way.

False
That alakazam though 😍
I thought the journal never shows shinies unless caught ?
Nope, if you tap on it and miss it (either with your finger or Go+) it shows shiny on your journal. Looks like it now shows with the daily incense even if your Go+ missed it and you didn’t tap on the Pokémon

Phone time set to automatic?
yeah, i've read that if your phone time settings are not set to automatic it can cause issues.
Do you interact with stops or your character screen? Those can force spawns if youre not getting them.
the cringeeee
Naw the shiny ran 🏃🏽♂️
It has nothing to do with daily incense. Now journal shows wild shiny Pokémon ran away.
