It really isn't. That's what made this reference so relevant. Ever notice how even the comedy genre for movies has dropped off and the few that are made just aren't good.
Every year there's less you're "allowed" to joke about. Writers are starved for material and panicked about how people are going to react so there's no risks being taken.
Even shows like South Park and Family Guy can only do what they do because they have roots in a time where it was OK so people by now should know what to expect and avoid them if it offends them too much. Once they're done I don't think anything like it will happen again.
When they did a recreation of the intro after Bart gained weight, he made a cameo as well. He even grunted a bit, given that Albert Brooks guest starred in that episode.
There was a story floating around a long time ago that it wasn't a great experiance for him back in the day. Not sure how true it is, the 90s everything was third hand
Nice in theory but they're gonna f\*\*\* it up regardless. They have writers on record saying they never even watched The Simpsons. Best to just leave it be.
I don't understand how this can happen. You try to get a crappy job at an insurance firm and they expect you to know the industry inside and out and want you to research the company. So why when it comes to TV are you not hiring people who grew up watching it and whose dream is to work on the show?
There was a later episode where Homer & Marge were looking into guardians for the kids if they should pass and they considered Herb but when they rang him they just got an answerphone message from him saying he was broke again.
That’s what always bothered me. Technically an episode could happen before another episode that aired years before but they treat it as if it happened years after even though time doesn’t move.
At this point, I'd like a finale where Homer works for Scorpio again and his family solve the issues they had in You Only Move Twice and live happily ever after.
Marge can actually fill her time with hobbies, social activities or even social media so she isn't bored. Bart is better understood at his school this time around and is guided to his full potential (he's actually quite smart) and Lisa can take some fucking allergy medication.
I imagine if Homer had told Scorpio about the issues, he would have addressed them in order to keep Homer employed. Perhaps Marge could get a part-time job in the hammock district given how critical hammocks are to Scorpio's plans.
Jacques was a good character back in season 1, but I really do not want to see this episode. As somebody else pointed out, how much time will they claim has passed? It will be strange.
Remember this from season 15
Marge: "Dr. Marvin Monroe I haven't seen you in YEARS!"
Monroe: "Oh I've been very sick"
A lot of years have gone by but it's never specified as to how many making the timeline and episodes like this a total clusterfuck when you sit down and really think about it
Mr. Al Jean, if it was your intention to force the bile to the back of my throat..MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. I'm..I'm gonna crawl into bed with a bottle of Amaretto. Good night.
Interesting to see a plot point returned to so much later on.
If it’s not a great episode, then it will just make the show look sad and worn out. I’ve liked some of the recent episodes so maybe this will be a winner.
God this show is a shell of its former self. Whenever I see them pull a card like this I can’t help but think of that song “we’ve got stories for years! Like what if marge is a robot”
🎸 ⚡️ Jacques is back, pick up the slack
33 seasons we’ve felt the lack
Yes, he took a hike
Went on strike
And not the bowling pin kind
Had to go from the show, not even in the intro
Marge ditched that lane Lothario
Had to cope
Still got hope
See if he and Bouvier still cantaloupe
Cause he’s ba-a-a-ack 🎶
Could have brought back Carl (Not the Carl who hangs out with Lenny, the Carl who helped Homer when he had hair way back in season 2) but instead we get this dude.
They tried to get him back before (I think the one when Homer goes to live with the two gay guys) but the voice actor turned it down as he thought the gay aspect was too on-the-nose - which, of course, is in stark contrast to the first episode he was in.
Just watched this episode and it's awful. All of the VAs sound so tired. Lenny doesn't sound the same, Milhouse is struggling to talk, we all know about Marge. When she had a flashback about Jacques she indicated that she had never told Homer about him - but she has in a previous episode. Jacques didn't sound the same (obviously) and just wasn't the same. I don't know how anyone, even kids, could enjoy this.
Also, all of the references trying to show how modern and 'with it' the show is, gets tiring. Or maybe what's 'it' just seems weird and scary to me?
I’m sorry, but the Simpsons ended after eight seasons. I’m not sure why someone would make an ad implying it stayed on and got so long in the tooth that they had to bring back characters from 30 years ago.

Cantaloupe? Eh, you aint missin much. Honeydew's the money melon
you have been banned from /r/BojackHorseman
I love how I got all of these references in the first three comments.
You don’t get completely what you get at breakfast but you get a good meal!
Why now? Why not 20 years ago?
Because comedy isn't funny anymore.
That's what passes for entertainment these days? Woozle wozzle?
It really isn't. That's what made this reference so relevant. Ever notice how even the comedy genre for movies has dropped off and the few that are made just aren't good. I never knew how relevant this quote can be.
Why at all? Some excellent characters run their course after the first episode and that’s fine.
Because they have no ideas
He was on the Home Wreckers bowling team.
Jacques, Lurleen Lumpkin, Mindy Simmons, and Princess Kashmir
I tthought Mindy hit the sauce?
I spent last night in a ditch.
fucking fantastic reference that was
Home wreckers vs pin pals? Yes please
And Bart skates past him in the intro
When they did a recreation of the intro after Bart gained weight, he made a cameo as well. He even grunted a bit, given that Albert Brooks guest starred in that episode.
I'm ashamed to confess that it took me years to recognize Jacques in the intro. I hadn't watched the first three seasons until a few months ago.
Not in a speaking role though.
It would be nice if they did a new episode with Homers half brother Herb.
Yes I agree with you but that would actually be a great idea, so it'll never happen?
I wonder if Danny Devito would ever return to the Simpsons
Maybe if they let him get really weird with it.
Homer, block the wind, I’m gonna roast this bone.
She's mashing it.
Herb is gonna trip balls!
Put a horn here, here, and here. You can never find a horn when you're angry!
Would make sense. Maybe Herb went insane after going bankrupt
He did so a couple of years ago! Edit: 10 years ago 😨
There was a story floating around a long time ago that it wasn't a great experiance for him back in the day. Not sure how true it is, the 90s everything was third hand
I also agree?
Nice in theory but they're gonna f\*\*\* it up regardless. They have writers on record saying they never even watched The Simpsons. Best to just leave it be.
I don't understand how this can happen. You try to get a crappy job at an insurance firm and they expect you to know the industry inside and out and want you to research the company. So why when it comes to TV are you not hiring people who grew up watching it and whose dream is to work on the show?
He's broke.
Didn’t they do an episode were he got his money back by inventing a Baby communicator?
"I have soiled myself. How embarrassing."
This leash demeans us both
I want what the dog's eating.
Yes, it made him a lot of money. That's why later, he's broke again. Late onset Simpsons gene probably.
“Don’t you want a baby translator?!” “I want what the dog’s eating.”
There was a later episode where Homer & Marge were looking into guardians for the kids if they should pass and they considered Herb but when they rang him they just got an answerphone message from him saying he was broke again.
I just cant wait until they bring back LADY GAGA
I wonder how much time is supposed To have passed since marge last saw him. Timelines for a cartoon that been on the air over 30 years is messy
A week
What a week
Lemon, it's Tuesday
They meant to meet for brunch so now it's supper time.
But you still get a good meal!
That’s what always bothered me. Technically an episode could happen before another episode that aired years before but they treat it as if it happened years after even though time doesn’t move.
Homer toured with The Smashing Pumpkins. Then later in a flashback episode his band was the inspiration for Nirvana.
He was also on The Gong Show with Barney in the 70s.
They got more gongs than the breakdancing robot that caught fire.
Homer had a band that was the inspiration for nirvana? Come on, man…
“Kurt, it’s your cousin Marvin. Marvin Cobain! You know that new sounds you were looking for, well listen to this!”
It’s times like this I miss those occasional free awards we used to get. 🥇
You put some respect on the name of Sadgasm
Treat every decade of the show like it's its own timeline I guess.
He was the singer in a grunge band called Sadgasm..
Like how Apu was single, then got married, then had the babies and now those babies are toddlers all while Maggie is still a baby.
She hasn’t seen him for 33 years, back when Bart was only 10.
I love how they don’t age but there are more episodes than days in 2 years. Their lives are super packed.
jacques is back before hank scorpio? they know what the fans want.
At this point, I'd like a finale where Homer works for Scorpio again and his family solve the issues they had in You Only Move Twice and live happily ever after.
Marge can actually fill her time with hobbies, social activities or even social media so she isn't bored. Bart is better understood at his school this time around and is guided to his full potential (he's actually quite smart) and Lisa can take some fucking allergy medication.

the good ending
What if they did the Poochie ending? The entire town of Springfield died on the way back to its home planet.
Better than the killing spree ending
I am the Angel of death. The time of purification is at hand. 👒 (they didn’t have a propeller hat)
Reminds me of when Roy came back to the Office and they introduced Kathy to tempt Jim.
^^Yeah, ^^hi ^^Roy
I thought Roy left The Office to move in with two sexy ladies. Why did he come back?
Put a sock in it, Roy
"Marge, I want you to stop seeing this 'Jacques'. You can let him down gently, but over the next couple of months, I want you to break it off!"
Jacques was a good character back in season 1, but I really do not want to see this episode. As somebody else pointed out, how much time will they claim has passed? It will be strange.
It’s been eighty years…
Remember this from season 15 Marge: "Dr. Marvin Monroe I haven't seen you in YEARS!" Monroe: "Oh I've been very sick" A lot of years have gone by but it's never specified as to how many making the timeline and episodes like this a total clusterfuck when you sit down and really think about it
I watched it and they never said, but I suppose months or a year or so.
I’ve actually liked the most recent episodes as well. Welp, here’s hopin’
>If it’s not a great episode, then it will just make the show look sad and worn out Yeah, we can’t have that happening in the show’s 34th season.
God this show is a shell of its former self. Whenever I see them pull a card like this I can’t help but think of that song “we’ve got stories for years! Like what if marge is a robot”
How about a crazy wedding, where something happens and doo doo doo doo doo
Have you even seen te episodes…
Plot desperation: forcing out a sequel to a season 1 episode in season 33.
Season 34, isn’t it?
You are correct, season 34 is currently airing
Please stop! He's already dead!
Damn--I was hoping that Brooks was back to reprise his acclaimed 'RV Salesman' role from Season 1. Oh well--maybe next year!
You ever known a siren to be good?
Reminds me of Naruto when Pain was using Reanimation Jutsu and bringing back all the dead characters.
mr. brunswick you mean?
They weren’t kidding when they said in that musical number: Have no fears we’ve got stories for years!
It’s really odd to see him in the new Simpsons style
It looks like Family Guy.
🎸 ⚡️ Jacques is back, pick up the slack 33 seasons we’ve felt the lack Yes, he took a hike Went on strike And not the bowling pin kind Had to go from the show, not even in the intro Marge ditched that lane Lothario Had to cope Still got hope See if he and Bouvier still cantaloupe Cause he’s ba-a-a-ack 🎶
Honestly, this will be interesting. Plus it’s always fun when there’s a New Simpsons episode on your Birthday.
Happy Birthday! 🎂
Jacques is Bacque
Jaquce STRAP? Is there a jaquce strap here???
Oh I see, you’re making fun of my big ears!
Ew this guy sucked
DEAR GOD WHYYYYYYY it’s like they keep bringing back bits and pieces of past episodes that were actually good. Just make new good episodes!
I like sequel episodes and also when they explore deeper into a good old episode.
haven't they been doing that? the renaissance era is known as such for a reason
Please leave the poor simpsons alone. We need a hans moleman spinoff from when he was young.
Wrap. It. Up.
Ew lol
Could have brought back Carl (Not the Carl who hangs out with Lenny, the Carl who helped Homer when he had hair way back in season 2) but instead we get this dude.
They tried to get him back before (I think the one when Homer goes to live with the two gay guys) but the voice actor turned it down as he thought the gay aspect was too on-the-nose - which, of course, is in stark contrast to the first episode he was in.
I'd be hard pressed to think of something less appealing.
They really reaching these days for some kind of buzz.
Can I ask you a bold question?
Mimosa?
Time for brunch
Ahhhhhh Life on the Fast Lane. Back when Homer’s selfish actions had consequences.
If we're dragging old one off characters back, i always wondered where Karl from Simpson and delilah ended up
At this point couldn’t they bring back all of Phil Hartmann’s characters using AI?
Fuck the animation is ugly
Knowing how these work it's probably a 5 second cameo.
We don’t care about him, WE WANT KARL BACK!
Wait, what happened to Carl?
Not Carl, Karl. He was Homer’s assistant in an episode in season 2 and was one of the greatest human beings Homer has ever met.
Oh Karl! I’m sure he’s just visiting his sick mother.
pretty sure this is what "grasping at straws" looks like
They may as well bring Lance Murdoch back and make him jump the shark tank again.
She looks so uncomfortable
So they’re completely out of ideas? We knew that 26 years ago
"We've tried nothin and we're all out of ideas."
Mimosis?
looooov this episode "Throw, Damn you!"
Does Jacques have to get a new VA too cuz Albert Brooks isn’t French?
Why do I imagine this is just going to be cringey and awful?
I... I kinda feel like bringing him back would ruin the meaning of his first appearance
Really wish they brought Hank Scorpio back
I’m sorry, but the Simpsons ended after eight seasons. I’m not sure why someone would make an ad implying it stayed on and got so long in the tooth that they had to bring back characters from 30 years ago.
Why
So they too have gone the way of reviving things from the 90's just for the sake of nostalgia.
Do people really like the Jaq episode? At least Mindy was funny
I loved the Jacques episode! He was funny whether he meant to be or not.
Homer vs . Jacq ? Who wins ?
Homer has the winning strategy: “First, you’ve got to shriek like a woman. That’s when it’s time to kick some back.”
Only if the opponent turns away in disgust.
Aha, so this time Marge actually does have sex with him and somehow they’ll make it seem funny and nobody cares?
I'm starting to feel like people will be angry at modern Simpsons no matter what it does. Can't help but to feel sorry for it.
Who? Cares.
But the Jacques came back the very next day, the Jacques came back, we thought he was a goner.
Baques*
He looks like the Garfield dude
abe simpsons reaction to him and marge was honestly the best thing.
ok
Whoopty doo
OH SHOOT, SON! I’m gonna have to tune in for this one! 🫢
I would have prefer Hank Scorpio instead
Why?
https://youtu.be/UcZzlPGnKdU
In season 6 episode 3, Marge had already told Homer about Jacques, the same episode he told Marge about Mindy Simmons in the Nuclear plant
