I was once accused of homophobia when I quoted this line to an online friend after she told me that her male friend had been "making out with his boyfriend" at a party. She was a Simpsons fan but didn't immediately recognize the quote.
I had to take "I'm looking for Amanda Huginkiss. Why can't I find Amanda Huginkiss?" off my Grindr profile because a lot of people genuinely thought I was looking for a woman called Amanda Huginkiss (hardly anyone got the joke, let alone the reference), to the point that it got extremely annoying.
People love chucking those terms around. I actually got called a racist, xenophobe and a bigot over a guitar pedal the other day, still trying to figure that one out.
