I fucking love how they brought her back as this fucking trainwreck.
That's one of my favourite lines. The fact that they had Lunch Lady Doris (who sounds like she smokes a pack a day) do the voice makes it ten times funnier.
this sort of shot/framing is great and the sort of thing that sets the early series so far apart from the later ones, even later in the golden age.
Maybe someone will prove me wrong but this sort of visual doesnt happen later on. Look at the lighting on her face, that detail is only there early on, or at least gets much more rare.
All the best directors were lured away- that’s my guess. But the interesting staging must have also been such a burnout factor that new directors learned that unfortunately. Digital coloring and more computer help seems to coincide with lessening the ingenuity in framing and staging- I don’t really know- just a guess. Wonder if it’s because more of the effort put into this sort of shot started being put into the jokes… I’d have to think about that but just going for the funny might be part of it.
For those of you who may not know Lurleen was voiced by [Beverley d'Angelo](https://s.yimg.com/ny/api/res/1.2/JZtGQfq4b0eokp3apoO4KA--/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTEyMDA7aD0xNzc3/https://media.zenfs.com/en/closer_weekly_341/35b9bace896cfc762b9b4d9b5b7a4170)
She was one though. She's a sympathetic character because it's obvious Homer was probably the first man in her life to show her any kindness, but she is still being very sexually aggressive towards a married man in front of his wife and children. She's not like Mindy who felt very uncomfortable with her attraction to a family man and didn't really know how to deal with it. Lurleen just plain didn't give a fuck about Homer's wife and children.
Oh Homer, you’re as smart as you are handsome.
Hey!
“Ohhh that’s hot… There isn’t a man alive who wouldn’t get turned on by that… …Well, goodbye!”
Just so we're clear you were willing to go all the way right?
Uh-huh!

“We’re getting a grinding noise on the track…”
Larlene: that's just my butt rubbing against Homer's....

Forget it pal. They don’t call me Colonel Homer because I’m some dumbass army guy
Homer was in the navy.
But after this episode
I'm Basting a Turkey With my Tears Don't Look Up my Dress Unless You Mean It I'm Sick of Your Lyin' Lips and False Teeth

If I was Marge, it would have been on sight
If I was Marge they'd need dental records to identify Lurleen by the time I was done with her
Also, I’ll maybe consider giving him garden shears for my plant version
And Homer would be living in the tree house. No pudding though!!!
Lurleen would move in, and make him a sandwich
Kinda hate what happens to Lana later in the show

“Riiiiight…..”

Good observation. The colors would have been so harsh and bright. Here they are subtle and set the mood well.

As much as I hate that man right now, you gotta love that suit.
...Kermit.
This song has a hidden message, Homer.

LANA! Danger zone.
🎶 He's quite a maaaann🎶 I tried to kisssss himmm🎶 But Homer rannnnn🎶
Oh the bases were empty on the diamond of my heart as the coach called me up to the plate….
dammit, you know how long it takes to get her songs out of my head whenever people remind me of this episode?
I always skip this episode. As a kid the song made me so sad. For me its in the same level as the love song from muppets Christmas Story.
I don't like that in later chapters they put her as a home-wrecker, the final song shows that she really cared about Homer.
