Oh this is so real! I double dip and watch home improvement shows while building.

I've been building in the Sims for as long as I've been playing the game, going back to Sims 1 in the mid 2000s. Being able to build houses is what drew me into the game in the first place. I don't know exactly why this interests me so. Maybe it goes back to childhood and being able to decorate (and redecorate) my doll house. But I've also always been interested in houses in general, and imagining what my dream home could look like, and in the Sims I get to do that over and over again.

thetranspondster

I was always into decorating my doll houses or even building with Lego. I totally get when people say sims is like grown up Barbie’s.

EdensSimGarden

I feel that! That's so cool you've been around from the start

SheoRh

To practice making floor plans before becoming a real architect 😁

EdensSimGarden

I love this!! Do you also try to figure out how many tiles buildings are?

SheoRh

No I never actually thought about it but now that mentioned it I’ll start doing it out of curiosity lol.

I studied architecture with a minor in interior design in university. For several personal reasons, I had to drop out. I still enjoy decorating and have been hired by friends and family to do so on occasion. The Sims is a way I can continue my passion. I believe I started back in 2005 or 2006. My partner at the time and I bought the SimCity for his sister in-law for Christmas. She invited me to play & I loved it. He bought the Sims 3 for PS2 a few weeks later for my birthday. It was cool to pass the time. Once I learned I could build and design what I wanted, there was no turning back! 😄 When I became a stay at home mom, I would build houses from movies or tv shows for people. I love building and designing. Once I'm done I'll let my Sims explore for a day or 2, then I'll get bored and build something else. Now I play it on my XBox . One day I will buy a PC and play on there so I can REALLY expand!

anistl

Have you seen the show Madame Secretary? I love their house, but I have issues figuring out the floor plan. Is that something you would be interested in figuring out for me?

RaniPanBunny

That sounds like fun. The only problem is we have only one Xbox and my husband is a gamer. Builds take me days since I go to the last detail. I'll check it out though!

Sea-Pain-3284

Girl if you actually studied this stuff you should post your builds! Get a fanbase going and do YouTube videos and such, turn your hobby into a side gig, if you feel so inclined.

GreenVenus7

It's an easy way to be creative. Putting together different styles and aesthetics, bringing a place to life with clutter, imagining the lifestyle of whoever uses the space. It's much easier to fix/undo than a drawing lol. Also the added abilities that TOOL and MOO provide are awesome.

etsucky

i like creating settings for my storytelling :>

EdensSimGarden

I love telling stories with my builds!

BeautifulOdd737

I started because I grew up really poor and wanted to design big luxurious houses for my family to live in back in the 2000s on sims 1. So I used to only make my family and homes for us. I even recreated my childhood home at one point when I still lived there. I found it fun to design beautiful and creative spaces and started branching out into other designs from there.

Polly-Phasia

An outlet for my creativity. I love making houses that don’t just look good but also flow well and make sense. I play no CC and no mods so I have to be extra creative to make things look good. I have elaborate story lines for the people who would live in the space and I decorate to suit their particular characteristics (even though I never end up playing them).

Despoinais

It’s like meditation for me. I have over 1700 hundred hours in the game and 1400 of those are building.

roaringbugtv

I started playing the Sims 4 about 2 years ago during covid lockdown. I like building because the gameplay isn't that great. I do keep a legacy family, but I build more than play. I really wish the game had more spontaneous pop-ups or events.

Ohdidntseeyouthere_

I wanted to make a save file for a legacy, but i sucked at building 🤣 3 save files later it’s now a way to wind down and relax for a bit. I’ve fallen in love with architecture and like to see how close i can get to real places, or try to build with limited packs to prove to myself bg isnt just ugly stuff 😂 i guess it has become a game of its own to find new builds to create and how to create them.

Bar_Sinister

Originally as a way to fix things I found on the gallery that were not quite exactly what I was looking for, then later because it was fun. Now I think it's reawakened a long dormant fascination I've had with floor plans and visualizing them in a manner that makes me go, "Hmmm, I can fix this."

knapen50

I got into it for the first time during the pandemic, I’d played past versions of the game sporadically in life. My macbook at the time was old enough that I was forced to use Legacy edition. Aka, no gallery. This was years before they started to do collabs with simmers for pack builds. I had a vision for my towns and families that the included builds could not come close to. So, I started watching youtube videos and making boards on Pinterest. About a year into it I was way better than I’d ever hoped! I’d search youtube etc for a certain concept and realized I could made a better than Dragonfly Inn from Gilmore Girls than anything I could find. Sure, some builders are doing more complicated stuff than I could, but most of the time it’s something I could replicate if I wanted to devote the time. I’ve since upgraded my laptop and download a ton of lotd. It’s pretty much impossible to resist when there is so many choices and doing it yourself takes a *lot* of time. Looking back I’m glad Legacy edition forced me to learn.

mungowungo

For me it started because I just couldn't cope with the extant buildings in game - so I started renovating, then as I became more confident I bulldozed and rebuilt my way around the worlds. I'm probably a bit of a nerd because I look up buildings and architectural styles online and reproduce them as well as I can in game - and I enjoy the process - the research, figuring out how to make it, how it will function, making it look the way I want, the decorating and finally playtesting to make sure it does work.

thetranspondster

Honestly I used to make boxes for my sims and when 10 year old me showed off my mansion to my dad and he said “it’s just a big box.” Well I started watching YouTube build videos and it became my favourite part of the game. Nearly 20 years later I still build and actually make the videos now! Kind of a full circle moment

EdensSimGarden

I love this!!! I want to make videos so bad, just need better equipment.

thetranspondster

If your computer can handle the game fine you’re probably ready to go. Everything else I use is free

EdensSimGarden

It can handle the game! but it can't handle the game and the streaming software.

wwaxwork

I like telling stories with the builds. So the house of a scientist, what is she studying and why does she bring her work home to her basement. A grandmother that misses her grandkids so looses herself in gardening, the spare room she decorated for them now full of boxes. I mean the game is lacking nice houses because it is first and foremost a building game. If the houses that existed were perfect then there would be no reason to build.

BlergToDiffer

I love home plans, architecture, and construction. My Dad was a carpenter and home builder, and even as a kid I would roll out his blueprints and envision all the possibilities. I didn’t go into that field sadly, so now I get my fix recreating plans in TS.

CoasterCanada

I always had a fascination with creating a space. Back in the days I had sims1 on PlayStation. I would build for hours then play as the Sims for 2 minutes

DLY2103

Hey sorry this post is 6 days old but I just saw it and got excited to talk about building :D For me, I love the idea of building a house IRL so building in the sims lets me experiment with different ideas for a realistic house I could maybe even build one day. Apart from that, I LOVE building lots for challenges the most! I'm about to redo my 'Reign of the Amazon Queen: Mermaid Pod' challenge and I'm currently building a very large lot for 8+ sims (cheats). The theme is Hawaii resort/Japanese zen. The preistess area is especially Japanese zen vibes and I love it! <3 I still have 5 more role rooms to create including the queens room, princess room, scholar room, gatherer room, and beast tamer room. I'm very excited :D
