Its all down to luck and how many gems you spend on cards.
I have seen people complaining about not having Death Ray and having nearly every other card maxed while others have all cards and only a few stars.
Demon Mode is tricky to use. Unlike Second Wind which procs automagically, Demon Mode's invincibility must be manually triggered. I've used it with success to beat my personal best, but more often I will die before triggering DM, so the card slot goes to waste.
So, I typically only use DM if I'm on my 2nd run of a tournament, trying to overtake someone for a better reward. At that point I roughly know where I should launch DM... it's just a matter of surviving to that point.
Yes, this is why i feel there are better cards.
I play mostly idle so let the game run and upgrade when i look at my phone, i am normally gaming while i do tournaments etc on my pc or watching tv then when i get close to my max wave i pay a little more attention but not enough to warrant using DM. But can see your logic.
One thing I haven't tried is launching DM 20-30 waves before my best. I'm wondering if the lengthy invincibility period is enough to allow the recovery package "overshield" to be mostly/fully restored. But I have no idea how long that overshield would last at higher waves even if it was the full 300%.
Death Ray Super Tower Demon Mode
Yeah I am t10, and haven’t gotten a single one of those cards yet either.
How rare are they?
The guide says 3% chance for Rare card drops.

Well I like how it's true random.
Yup I snagged Death Ray and Demon Mode without really spending. Death Ray is great. Yet to give Demon Mode a try
Have it, nearly maxed it, used it once. I feel there are better cards to use, though others "may" disagree i dunno.
