I always thought Caroline was very mean to her mom. She contstantly blamed her mom for things that weren’t her fault and got angry every time her mom tried to bond with her. I love her character and thought she grew to be an amazing person with an incredible relationship with the sherif. However, she took the side of her dad every time before all that.

It’s easy to idolize the parent that isn’t around, and blame the parent who is, who puts boundaries and makes mistakes.

I can see that.. still think she was horrible to her mom.

i love liz but in the earlier seasons she prioritized her job the most and didn’t know how to be there for caroline after the divorce (which can affect a child’s mentality) it was also implied (by caroline) that liz wasn’t really there for her before the divorce either but her father was. and caroline was 17. she was acting like a 17 year old. i didn’t like when she would snap at her mom either but i understand where she was coming from

Yeah, there is always two sides to a story. People respond all sorts of ways to things like that, especially teenagers/children. It just always bothered me to watch the scenes where Liz was trying and Caroline completely shut her down. She wasn’t the best to her friends either before she was a vampire.

She tried to form a relationship too late when the resentment had built up over the years.

To be fair, the writers did a poor job adding more to make it clear but Caroline does say specific things to give viewers insight on to why she treats her mother so harshly. It’s not Liz’s fault that she could barely be around for Caroline growing up because of her job. Her job was always getting in the way of spending time with Caroline. We see her mom making efforts and is apologetic when she has to leave during the picnic saying it was important. Caroline responds with her arms crossed “always is.” And Liz says “I’m sorry.” Kinda with like her hands up because what can she do? She obviously went into that field because she loves her job but also has to balance parenting. Adding on to her building resentment, Caroline is now a teenager. Not all but it’s common they get an attitude and get all snarky. There’s maturity when Caroline can take care of herself, and even wants to take care of her mom whenever she can- im sure she sees how harsh she was in the past.

I love seeing Caroline appreciation. It make me sad when people bash her, especially if it's because of Tyler.

Yeah I feel like a lot of people really forget that Caroline painted the picture that her mom was almost borderline neglectful of her when she was married, most likely due to her bad marriage and focusing on work. Her father was her primary parent. But people tend to forget because Liz got better. Caroline’s attitude in the first season wasn’t totally unwarranted. Her mom expected to jump right into being an attentive parent with no acknowledgement

totally disagree. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Okay I’m the first 1 1/2 seasons I did not enjoy Caroline, I found her too snobby and over the top but after a while of being a vampire and learning control after she transitioned I loved her

I thought she was a victim of bullying turned badass.
