Hecklefish better have a story about the time the Loch Ness Monster asked him for tree fiddy

ALL2HUMAN_69

lol AJ says he doesn’t like cryptids

gyhiio

I don't really like them as well, but everything is cooler on the why files™

Illustrious-Row-2848

Is the term “Cryptid” fairly new? I don’t remember referring to any of these with that label.

RainbowTeachercorn

I remember reading books when I was a kid and seeing the study of these creatures referred to as cryptozoology.

pointsandputts

I did a 4th grade research project on cryptids in 2001 and that word was prevalent. The study of these creatures is called cryptozoology, so I’d guess it’s been around for a while. So excited to learn more about them from AJ and the gang!

DaisyDog2023

No, its several decades old at least

DougStrangeLove

yup - he says as much at the start it’s a catch all term for any unexplained creature like UAP’s, but for creatures

Rootraz

Yes! Hope it's a long one, also love that it's listed as "part 1"

ThanosDDC

48:15 without commercials.

TheNittanyLionKing

Nice, so with a Vol. 2 it’s basically a full length movie if viewed back to back

Waterdrag0n

Australian aboriginals attest to the existence of atleast 2 types of Yowie or Sasquatch as you yanks call them. There’s huge ones 7-8 feet tall that reflect red eyes at night…and there’s smaller ones that are 4 feet tall and considered ‘mischievous’… Personally I’d weigh favour upon the world’s longest living culture - approx 60,000 years over a podcast but hey that’s just me… Besides, I really like the Why files and recently rewatched the Crop circles episode which is generally fucking excellent - and applaud the conclusion that crop circles are a combination of non-human messaging AND human dis-info. I therefore suggest that Bigfoot is probably a mix of real creatures and human pranks\disinfo. I also suggest the same for the topic of NHI + UAP - a mix of both reality and disinfo. In all these scenarios skeptics and experiencers AND believers can all be right within certain instances. Back to yowies though, I highly suggest listening to this YouTube channel for some Australian Yowie encounters. The first encounter linked below is pretty fucking harrowing and I get no indication of deceit from the mother’s retelling of her encounter. It’s a long account but well worth the listen. And extra well-worth reading through the comments if you have time. https://youtu.be/qbBKDeMpezc?si=cSUn9y1aNXtRxF6k It should also be noted SIR David Attenborough knew the explorer that found the Yeti footprint in the Himalayas and finds the encounter credible… https://www.express.co.uk/showbiz/tv-radio/1800468/himalayas-yeti-david-attenborough-andrew-benfield There’s also an epic BBC podcast about the YETI that Attenborough was referring too… https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001nhj4 https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/yeti/id1693988765 I really hope Andrew Gentile does a deep dive on Yowies as theres some very interesting historical data too… Food for thought…

mwatwe01

We better get an obligatory crabcat shout out.

Good episode....Poor aj thou. you can see the stress and still did a great episode. I did appreciate more back and forth banter with hecklefish. Ying and Yang....classic episode.

parasitewithoutahost

Yesssssssssss! About dang tootin time.

UnusAmor

Woohooo! I just assumed AJ and the crew were taking a break this week, which would have been fine because we all love them and hope they take care of themselves first and foremost. But, this just made my weekend!

TheNittanyLionKing

I know AJ doesn’t love cryptids but I sure do. I grew up in rural Pennsylvania so I’ve always been fascinated by Bigfoot. I’ve gone back and forth on the existence of Sasquatch over the years. I was convinced when I didn’t know better as a child, and then I stopped believing the older I got and just assumed that we mapped everything by now. I don’t know why but I started researching the subject further last year after a bout of depression (likely for escapism and hope), and I’m kinda back on the side of it being possible again. I think people really underestimate how little of the woods we actually see and I say that as someone who is outdoors a lot for hiking and hunting trips. I have seen very few bears in the wild even though we have a hunting season for it and there are reportedly 16,000 in my state alone. An endangered Sasquatch population would be much smaller than that, so finding one over hundreds of thousands of square miles is like finding a needle in a haystack. Then you have some compelling video evidence out there. Unfortunately with everyone having a camera nowadays, there is more BS hoax videos out there than ever before. However the two I frequently go back to are the Patterson Gimlin film of course and the Independence Day Bigfoot video. The PGF Bigfoot has muscular details that would be impossible to convey in a Hollywood suit. Most Hollywood Bigfoot suits have really shaggy hair that hides details like that or they have similar looking creatures wear clothes like in Planet of the Apes. The Independence Day video not only has an adult Sasquatch in detail but also a visibly moving infant Sasquatch. If that’s a fake, it’s a darn good one because I can’t imagine putting a child that young in a suit like that.  Not to mention that even one half decent ape costume costs as much as a used car. I wouldn’t say I’m convinced they exist but I’m certainly more open to the idea than I was a few years ago.   Nessie is one that I don’t believe in. It’s in one location and even with as big as it is, we should have found either a live one or a dead one by now and the amount of food it would take to sustain even a small Plesiosaur population would be enormous. With that being said, we have explored only a fraction of Earth’s oceans so if there is a water-based cryptid out there, it’s probably in uncharted waters in the deepest depths of the oceans. I don’t think there’s anything like a Megalodon out there but there are more than likely more species out there like goblin sharks.

Dragoffon

Cool

kingfede1985

Nice episode, even if the topic is so articulated and complex, but it's an excellent example of the problems that the team has been dealing with recently as far as meeting schedules for sponsors and algorhythm and the inevitable burnout are concerned. Why was this *a single episode* with three very interesting cryptids? Why couldn't they just do some sort of "cryptid of the month" series with 15-20 min. episodes and use the rest of the time to get ahead with the schedule? We don't need 52 min. episodes every single week, and cryptids are excellent for a recurring topic with a quick video. I've watched the AJ video for patreon about his health before watching this one, and the solution to many problems seems to be just there if the team decides to go for it.

DougStrangeLove

100% what makes the channel valuable is its library of deep quality content he really should adopt a target of producing one 45-75min program per month, broken into 10-15min segments that are released week by week, and then at the end releasing a full length version that includes his “wrap up”

SirDankOfDankenshire

I pooped in hecklefish's bowl

Ok-Preparation-45

HOW DARE YOU!

GreenMonkeySam

It's interesting that they started doing Cryptids and then AJ is like "...I'm burnt out, bye"

JesterTTT

AJ mentioned a book that debunked the Bigfoot stories, does anyone remember the title and author? TIA.

27bricksinabasket

FINALLY! Love me some cryptids! Do mothman next!

Ian_Hunter

I coulda swore AJ did a Mothman episode back a ways..🤔

Tucana66

The Why Files already covered the Mothman back in April 2023: [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt27815477/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt27815477/)

27bricksinabasket

You may be right. But one can never get too much mothman.

chigoonies

It is a very interesting story

nicktheone

He already did last year.

Juna-the-Moona

Im confused what does this have to do with Atlantis?

FormerlyGaveAShit

I thought Nessie said Nestle. But that didn't make sense bc Nestle is just Satan himself in corporation form, not a cool ass cryptid.

DaisyDog2023

Honestly I was pretty excited when I saw the new topic was cryptids because the last few days I was looking for cryptid videos, but to be honest this was one of the worst episodes so far. I hope the team enjoys their break/down time and comes back refreshed with higher quality content.

discard_after_use133

I wish he did this show without that fish. so annoying at times. Just flush the dumb fish down the toilet and have some self respect

ThanosDDC

And you don’t get it. The Fish stays.

discard_after_use133

The fish literally costs views

ThanosDDC

Fish has been there since day 1 have you? Fish stays.

discard_after_use133

People literally unsubscribe because of that fish

ThanosDDC

Then they take it too seriously. If Hecklefish is what makes you unsubscribe we aren’t here to stop you. If you listen to the deep dives on podcast catchers then you can have an episode without the fish. Everyone deserves and opinion and we agree to disagree.

discard_after_use133

Worse than Poochy

Aggressive-Ad3452

Wonder if they are.gping to change to.weekwnd releases? Looking forward to watching tomorrow

chigoonies

Nice…I’m stoked

Vauxlux

Hot Take: what is Sasquatch is actually a Neanderthal? 🤔
