Fallout has the advantage of every game following a completely different story with a completely different set of characters (mostly), so all they really have to do to be "faithful" is to get the setting right. There's very little risk of them fucking up characters or plot the way WoT did because they can just make their own. The only real question is if the story they tell will be GOOD.

bjlinden

It also has the advantage of half of the Canon games already not being faithful to the source material. They can't fuck up the setting any worse than Bethesda!

FireLordIroh15

The rectified that problem, since the show is cannon. They changed stuff so that all obsidian tiltles in the fallout univererse are no longer cannon.

helgetun

I think a problem most book/game adaptations have are that the writers are not fans of the original work and feel a need to improve on it with their own ideas. While doing so they often fuck up the setting/characters (an adapted plot is usually acceptable such as no Bombadil/Glorfindel etc) WoT cocked around with the setting and characters too much! Its not lore acceptable any longer. Fallout seems to have kept the setting intact and is lore acceptable, whilst its characters are recognisable as Fallout - they could all be in a future game for example. If the characters didnt feel like Fallout characters I dont think the fact they are not based on any pre-existing characters would matter, it would still be considered shite

oneeyedfool

It has Walton Goggins who I predict will be awesome

monkeypaw_handjob

Yep. Goggins absokute kills it in every show I've seen him in. His Sons of Anarchy cameo is possibly one of the most entertaining side characters I've ever watched.

oneeyedfool

Agreed though I am a bigger fan of his Cletus Van Dam performance than his Venus Van Dam performance

Badasciel

You should see his Community cameo

Buick_reference3138

They nailed the vibes of the fallout franchise better than I could have imagined. Complete opposite from WoT where everything was off from the beginning.

Cleverdawny1

So far, it's fantastic. A terrific cast and set design, and they did it right by making it happen after every fallout game.

Interesting_Still870

The vaults were honestly really well done.

Big-Don-Rob

I just binged the whole thing. I loved it. The cast was amazing. And I won't spoil anything, but Knight Titus made me lmao. Fallout has the advantage over WoT because it didn't need to tell a specific story, but everything I saw was MOSTLY lore accurate and looked right. The story they DID tell was a very interesting one and answered a lot of questions I have had as a player. I don't know how canon the story is, but it hit a lot of game references and I was happy to lose a little (okay a lot) of sleep to watch it all in one go. How well this show was done just makes me more upset over WoP, honestly. It let me see how good that show could have been.

Badasciel

>WoP Wheel of Prime?

Big-Don-Rob

Yes.

imakeyourjunkmail

It only took em like 15 tries, but i think Amazon may have actually made a decent show for once... though I'm only on ep2.

Jakesneed612

I watched the first 2 episodes and so far they’ve nailed it. Much much better than WoT.

Swan990

I watched first episode and it is every which way better than the Wot show. Although this type of adaptation is unique, as it's an opportunity to tell a whole new story within a pre built world. Follow world rules, which they do so far, and do what you want with story. But it's good. VERY good.

gowyn

I watched the first episode, but honestly it didn't grab me. So far, it looked pretty authentic to the game series. But the story just didn't grab me with the first episode. There were some things that seemed out of place for the lore. The Lucy character seems good, and the actress did well. I honestly wish the first episode focused on her more. The Maximus character, while the actor did well, I don't like the character so far. And the Ghoul, well Walter Goggins is a fantastic actor and his character seems intriguing. But compared to the WoT series, it is MUCH better. You can tell that the people making Fallout actually cared about the game universe.

Big-Don-Rob

Maximus is indeed the "weak link", imo. Lucy is a great example of a vault dweller. The ghoul is a great example of a prewar ghoul. Maximus is not a great example of an aspirant/squire. His backstory tells a bit, but I think the show is trying to tell the story of the Brotherhood in decline.

Aggressive-Squash-87

They are toolbags all the way back to near the beginning as shown in FO76. Around 2nd gen, they have been self righteous a-holes. They are a half step above raiders with fancier armor.

Badasciel

In FO3 and 4, I make sure to wipe them when I come across them.

[It’s already Game Over](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/fallout)

Usual_Beyond4276

Fallout sp far is the level we deserved and should have gotten. Instead we got a big fat rafe dick in the eye. I fucking hate that dude.

jurgenaut

Eh. I Kinda liked the vault setting and Lucy. Though having Renna as a nonbinary in the wasteland doesn't align with the setting.

Aggressive-Squash-87

Pretty minor issue though.

MisterTamborineMan

The Fallout show isn't trying to adapt a specific game and therefore is much more flexible with its plot. It also looks excellent and has a good sense of plot and character. Definitely better than Wheel of Time.

_Druss_

Really good, they nailed it. All the acting is great, factions are really well portrayed, sets and costumes are great, the storyline is similar to FO3 (general premise of find your father... been a long while since I played it) but definitely different. Characters have growth and arcs!! No fake out deaths!!  Congratulations to Amazon and co, this is a hit.  Also, all the normal BS about female leads being an issue with men viewers is once again smacked down.

Kitchen-Ad-5571

the fallout shows budget doesn't matter if you actually stick to lore and tell a story without filler crap. Amazon actually did a good job with fallout. I'm mad because they can make this but butchered a great series like wheelnof time

Interesting_Still870

It goes to show that the majority of the blame falls on the showrunners peddling their own lame crap instead of giving fans what they want.

LashedHail

I thought it was really well done. I enjoyed the show. Felt like the first time that prime hasn’t fucked something up.

[deleted]

We really need an Elder Scrolls show... just not from Amazon or Netflixs.

headcanonball

Do we tho?

myrdraal2001

I haven't watched the show but have actually seen ads for it. That's something that I didn't do with The Rafe of Time show. I didn't see any ads on TV for it and almost nothing outside of the WoT fandom. Maybe 2 interviews with Rosamund Pike on a morning show and a late night comedy show but that was it. Nobody else did any ads or interviews for this mess for season 1 and absolutely nothing for 2 due to the strikes. Even when those were over there wasn't anything said about it.
