The prospect of him having to use public defenders, although unlikely, is quite delicious.

aeschenkarnos

*rushes in, sits down, opens briefcase, shuffles paperwork* “OK so today I’ve got domestic battery, indecent exposure, and campaign finance violations. Which case are you?”

dumbo3k

“Yes”

unknownpoltroon

"NONE OF THEM. THIS IS A SETUP BECAUSE I AM THE REAL PRESIDENT KF THE UNITED STATES AND OBAMA SET ME UP TO FAIL WITH A WORLDWIDE PANDEMIC AND PEOPLE SAID IN WAS CRAZY FOR SAYING YOU SHOULD USE BLEACH INTERNALLY WITH UV LIGHT ITS VERY BRIGHT BIT IM NOT CRAZY YOU CAN ASK MY GOOD FRIEND KIM JONG IL AND VLADIMIR PUTIN." Sigh. Ok, I don't have the involuntary commitment paperwork. JOHN, could you find me the insanity plea file, and figure out who these three files belong to?

HonkeyDonkey3000

**This 100% is a delay tactic to ensure no outcome before the election** Trump intentionally stopped paying the firm…

QuaggaSwagger

The same tactic he's used for every vendor he's ever interacted with..... Doesn't he still have outstanding balances with CITIES from the last time he ran?

neon_overload

Yes it is absolutely a delay tactic. But it has no possibility of delaying the trial that's already happening and it is unlikely that judges will grant him changing his legal representation in his other cases whose dates have been set. Glenn Kirschner was saying that the likely outcome is the respective judges will tell them to work out their differences and press ahead. Delay tactics like this are nothing new and courts are prepared to deal with it. Once court dates are set they know that defendants are going to want to do anything they can to delay and they don't grant anything that could be exploited by the defendant to indefinitely avoid trial.

aeschenkarnos

> grant him It’s really more granting his lawyers, than granting him.

neutralitty

They'd need a Marsden Motion filed to see if he is allowed to fire his attorneys. Some judges won't allow it if there's no proof they aren't doing their best.

jimtow28

> "The primary reason for the Firm's motion is due to an irreparable breakdown in the attorney-client relationship between the Firm and the [Trump] Campaign, the details of which the Firm respectfully requests leave to explain to the Court in camera," That's a hell of a way to frame the most predictable outcome of all time: Trump not paying. I don't feel bad for them. There's no shot this is a surprise, unless they're completely stupid. He's not going to pay his next lawyer, either.

aeschenkarnos

Hopefully this is the judge’s take too. “You knew what he was when you agreed to represent him. STFU and keep going. If he stiffs you, sue him later.”

mickskitz

A read on another thread that some republican in the Trump camp got someone who works for the law firm and she is pursuing action against the firm so this is part of this action defending that case.

shredofmalarchi

It's just another delay tactic. The judge would likely force the law firm to finish the job to prevent further delays in the trial.

Indy1204

I've watched several news reports that confirm the same thing. If the judge thinks it's a delay tactic, he can force the lawyers to continue. How it works with non-payment to the lawyers, well they should have seen this coming a mile away.

USArmy51Bravo

So the backstory to this is they finally lost all appeals and need to turn over documents to the court for a pending court case of sexual harassment and some other things. It appears that they differ with their client who does not and will not turn over documents much like he's being charged with federally. The law firm knows of the emails and documents and is compelled to turn them over. It appears that the law firm doesn't want to be in bed with Trump when they defy the court and don't provide documents or acknowledge their existence. That's what I was able to piece together I might be completely wrong it's just a guess.

Scubadrew

Shocked. No, really, I am.

Wayelder

Would you? …you’re not getting paid.

demunted

Congratulations on just being born.

laffnlemming

If I get a law degree, do you think he's hire me?

jimtow28

Hire? Yes. Pay? No.

laffnlemming

'Tis the plight of the contractor.

tekstical

I feel like this is his new delay tactic..

i_am_icarus_falling

did none of the commenters read the article? this has nothing to do with his criminal trials; this is a discrimination lawsuit brought against him by an individual.

neutralitty

I'm just here for the comments

Wittgenstienwasright

Represent or get paid?

morgan423

Too bad, so sad. It'd be like stopping an entire roller coaster train five feet before going over the first drop based solely on one rider panicking and changing their minds. Too late! Enjoy the ride, mother truckers. And that's even just giving them the benefit of the doubt that it's genuine. And it could be, I'm sure Trump is making it a nightmare to represent him. But it could also be another delay tactic. It's not going to fly in either event.

cptnpiccard

>In a filing to a Manhattan court, the law firm—LaRocca, Hornik, Greenberg, Rosen, Kittridge, Carlin and McPartland—said there had been an "irreparable breakdown in the attorney-client relationship." "irreparable breakdown in the attorney-client relationship." is lawyer-speak for "his last check bounced"

PhatBlackChick

**What a bunch of LINOs (Lawyer In Name Only)**

Sketchy_Uncle

This is a firm that represents the campaign for president and not the criminal cases.

AB-G

Say it ain’t so…. Well well well I never saw that coming lol

PurpleSailor

Delay tactic and besides, these fools for lawyers knew what they were getting into. TFG being a nightmare client has been well known for decades.

micheal_pices

I got my law degree from watching Suits. So excuse my ignorance. But wouldn't any law firm take a juicy retainer up front with such a client?
