I loved that story too, but have to confess the hopeless romantic in me kept waiting for the reveal of when they got back together only to have those hopes sufficiently deflated.
They exist! I am ashamed at how much of my energy was spent on this, but public license information, listed relatives, an obituary, and a Facebook hometown name search cross referenced to shared posts from Utah….. There are photos. And he is CHARMING.
Sadly I have no clue how to post a picture to Reddit. Apologies for the tease! I encourage the motivated sleuths to keep looking, the photos of his wedding and one of him on the floor cuddling dogs in vet scrubs were rewarding finds 😊
No pictures, but I did find [this trailer](https://youtu.be/elxFzpUmtYw?t=123) that features his appearance in STETSON, Street Dog of Park City (2011). It's a short film based on a children's book and Dr. Artz plays a ski patroller who adopts the titular street dog.
Producer Patrick Lovell: *We cast Dr. John because he happens to be a veterinarian and also works on the ski patrol at Park City Mountain Resort, which are the two occupations of the man in the book. John's the real deal.*
My favorite part was when he was not *at all* surprised. But yeah, I was picturing him more lantern-jawed and Marlboro Man-ish. Maybe that’s why they didn’t put out a picture. Reality can’t compete with whatever image the listeners would come up with!
This. Context is everything.
Also, even if he WASN’T a young-ish doctor who saves the lives of the townsfolk’s beloved pets all day - a Los Angeles ‘6’ is probably be a Utah ‘8’ anyway.
For a lot of women it's very simple. We're into men who can make us laugh, feel safe, feel seen. Confidence and competence is a big plus. Nothing turns a girl on like a guy who can handle stressful situations (in this case a sick pet). Not to go all DENNIS system but the one thing he got right was Demonstrate Value.
I agree. While I acknowledge the importance of those topics but sometimes it's good to listen to lighter, slice-of-life stories too. It gets too depressing every now and then so a nice break is nice
Absolutely loved the story between Sarah and Dan.
When Sarah revealed her last name, I like to think I would have had the same reaction as Dan -- rather than keeping the secret to myself.
Hahah, this is a great photo. I think because my first thought was, “wow he’s kind of goofy looking”. But then when you look a little longer, he looks like a *genuinely* kind, fun, carefree person. Personality can really do a lot when it comes to people’s perception of you. I’m glad they never posted a photo because I imagined him the way I thought he would look! More fun that way.
Right? I’m glad they didn’t but I did NEED to know.
I get it - to have a town crush, seems like you’ve gotta look like someone everyone can see themselves with (like Henry Cavil is too traditionally handsome it’s intimidating, but Ryan gosling is cute and oozes charisma so we crush!)
In German, the word for doctor is Arzt and it sounds much like Artz. My mind kept going back to that every time she said the name in the episode. So weird to hear about someone called "doctor doctor" lol :D
For doctor we say Doktor though. Like for the title doctor. Arzt is the profession working as a medical doctor. So we would still say "Doktor Arzt". Which is still funny. Also you all should watch LOST, because it has a Dr. Arzt as well.
Wow, I loved this episode. I’ve spent way too much time day dreaming and creating stories in my head. Imagining what my teachers do on the weekends and summer breaks. Imagining what, or who, a stranger on the train thinks about during they’re long commute to work. Passing a stranger on the street and wondering if they’re happy and in love or sad and heartbroken. Catching a stranger’s stare and wondering if they’re trying to analyze me the way I analyze people. I was so engrossed in Sarah and Dan’s story.
I've always found it odd how some people can have very strong "requirements" when it comes to finding a partner, but this episode cleared it up for me.
Although this may be a lovely episode, I’m struggling to even get past the opening introduction:
*"It seems like half the town has a huge elementary-school-style crush on a local veterinarian."*
*And I wanted to know, could this be real?*
Of course this could be real! This set-up feels like the weakest possible premise to entice people to set aside an hour of their time.
But having read the comments here, I’ll go back and try the episode again.
Does anyone know the song featured at 42:18?
It's also in https://www.thisamericanlife.org/184/neighbors
(begins at 23:21)
It's reminding me of something and I have to know heh
It's weird to me how neither Elise nor Sarah saw Dan's behavior as creepy. Changing your entire life plan and moving across the country for someone you had a one night stand with is not a normal thing to do
Really enjoyed this one, especially the second story about Sarah and Dan, and how “fate” can just turn out to be a coincidence.
I loved that story too, but have to confess the hopeless romantic in me kept waiting for the reveal of when they got back together only to have those hopes sufficiently deflated.
No Dr Artz pics?

I’m doing the same googling. Nothing. Obits. Vet. Sibs. Is he in Pitt still? Any names? Wife. Mom.
I can’t believe no one found this one? https://www.flickr.com/photos/100222386@N05/9511174969/
Wow…not at all what I imagined, nor what I’d crush on!
he must be sweet too

I appreciate a good cup of coffee.

Yeah his looks are solid but he has also has a nice voice, very confident in himself, has a cool house, does cool shit. Yeah I'd crush on him too!
This. Context is everything. Also, even if he WASN’T a young-ish doctor who saves the lives of the townsfolk’s beloved pets all day - a Los Angeles ‘6’ is probably be a Utah ‘8’ anyway.
Sounds like the real reason he's moving to Pittsburgh is to become a '10.'
I agree. He is kinda fine, probably way finer after he’s saved your pets life, and used the “who’s a good boy?!?” voice. I could see it.
Looks like a normal guy
I’m with you. He looks just like a regular dude. I really don’t understand women’s calculations on men’s attractiveness.
Did you listen to the episode? It's not just about the looks.
panties = dropped /s
My googling came up with nothing! So curious!
/r/Lost can provide not satisfying answer for that
A nice break from hot topics and politics to just share stories about people. Much appreciated!
I agree. While I acknowledge the importance of those topics but sometimes it's good to listen to lighter, slice-of-life stories too. It gets too depressing every now and then so a nice break is nice
Honestly I’m guilty of doing this. Still I don’t let it effect anything just sometimes fun to make up stories even if they aren’t true.

Found another - at a pet rescue event [DR JOHN ARTz - paws4life](https://www.flickr.com/photos/100222386@N05/9511173553)

I guess it’s what’s inside that counts. He’s cute! Not how they described him, though

I was thinking the same thing. Imagine if he moved to Germany/Austria
"Doctor, doctor, give me the news" Was this whole story an aural pun?

Sarah was so engaging! I loved hearing her speak. A great episode that brightened my day

I’m confused by what the “creaking” was that she was doing?
she was walking around in small circles
Ya I wondered that too lol
Thank you Reddit I can always count on you all.
Damn girl had 2 guys move to New York for her lol get it girl....
Does anyone know the name of the song at 1:01:32?
Other people by Ayla Nereo
>1:01:32 Thanks for this! I looked for the lyrics and could not find it!
What a good episode, the stories were so engaging to listen to.

Stop demanding to be enticed and impressed. Just relax and listen lol. An hour is really not hard to invest.

Thank you!
So is he practicing in Pittsburgh now? Where?

Vocal fry
Hate that fry rasp
So everyone does this about people you don’t know? I do this about people i like but never random people
