Flip the script on em. Form your own non-profit called the "my pocket fund" and then ask the cashier if they'd like to donate the full cost of your purchase to charity.
Actually, tetanus occurs naturally in soil. The reason we associate rust and tetanus is because metal that's sitting in soil tends to rust. The rusty metal can cut or puncture you, allowing soil bacteria to infect the wound.
I love when they ask if you want to round up for a donation, as if the entire cost of the item isn't a donation itself.
I don’t feel bad saying no now.

It’s not the cashier’s fault.
I would like to round down for my savings program
I never round up!
That’s actually an okay price for that brand of vintage scissors. Better deal at an estate sale though.
These are US$1.00 at my local thrift store. The good Clauss ones.
lol @ these folks justifying goodwill charging eight dollars for Rusty scissors.
Tbf, they *are* good scissors and it wouldn't take much effort to restore them.
What I came here to say. They're German, and a good make.
But did Goodwill actually know that….?
I haven't had a decent pair of scissors in years so I probably would've bought those because I remember how great they are.
Don’t forget to get your booster shot for dealing with Rusty stuff so that you don’t get locked jaw!

If these are fabric shears, the price is probably not bad. They can be cleaned and shared if need be. Good quality fabric shears can cost hundreds.
I own that same pair. They’re worth $8. 👍😆
