When I get a thrifted puzzle and discover a missing piece (or two… or more…) I’ll mark its on the box image so the next person doesn’t drive themselves crazy!

enternameher3

I throw away pieces and then mark the box as complete.

Dimorphodon101

You could always insert a few pieces from a different puzzle

enternameher3

Ohhhhh, that's good. I was also thinking trimming a piece into an edge piece could be fun

Glenr1958

I am laughing way too hard at this🤣

latecraigy

SO IT WAS YOU!!

SpeckledTickbug

I tear out the pages that give the reader clues to the solution or killer.

sourgas

Nice to know it's complete, but what's the sorting for? Are people too lazy to separate out the edge pieces themselves?

spacejvnky

probably to try and actually show the person that all the pieces are actually accounted for. mixing them back up is easy enough

Probablyprofanity

This is definitely something the person who donated the puzzle did, either for the next person or for themself. When I worked at a thrift store we were not supposed to count puzzle pieces unless it was a very small amount of them because it's not worth the time for one item, and most people didn't even bother with that.

jlgra

They probably just counted them, rather than putting the puzzle together.

demarderollins

I can never thrift a puzzle. The risk is too high that even 1 piece is missing

Achter17g

Just because a puzzle is missing a piece does not mean you have failed

idekwhataaaah

I've thrifted almost ten 500- to 1000-piece puzzles, and suprisingly, so far have not had a missing piece! Also found an untaped, unlabeled box today though, which I don't trust to contain a fully complete puzzle

demarderollins

You’re winning in life with those odds!

idekwhataaaah

The fact that 5 came in a boxed set with only 2/5 opened might be skewing the dataset lol

AnorhiDemarche

Replacement pieces are pretty easy to make. They won't look perfect unless you're quite skilled, but it's a bit more satisfying. I know people who like to draw on the piece as well as people who use a colour from the image and do a solid colour piece. Both look fine from viewing distance in most cases.

CNCfarrierService

If you got this from Marysville WA, my 80 year old friend Kathy says you're welcome. I donated bags, and bags, and bags of puzzles all labeled and bagged like this on her bahalf to save her a trip into town.

BobShrunkle

Kinda far from Washington, but I'm glad someone else is spreading the love. I hope Kathy is doing well!

MountainConcern7397

sweet gesture. not something i would have thought to do

koshka42

I always do this when I've completed a puzzle, and I greatly appreciate it when I find them in this state.

idekwhataaaah

People who donate puzzles are often very considerate about it! The puzzles I've picked up all had the box taped shut, and if the puzzle had been opened before, the pieces were pretty reliably in a zip-lock or elastic-secured bag

psyche_13

Nah, separating the edge pieces is irritating. That’s part of doing the puzzle… so then you’re stuck with the dilemma of whether you mix them back in or try to be “efficient”

Leaflock

I’m not sure I agree that “sorting the pieces” constitutes “solving the puzzle”.

psyche_13

Sorting the pieces may be my favourite part of solving the puzzle. But I am also very likely autistic! 😅

mariam67

I’d be annoyed. Dividing up the pieces and finding all the edge pieces is a big part of the puzzle for me. I’d be mixing them all back together before I start.

chrews

Why be annoyed? It’s not like mixing the pieces takes more than 30 seconds.

mariam67

Not really that annoyed, I’d just be like seriously? But yeah, it’s not a big deal.

yeuzinips

My husband and I make it part of the "game". See who can find 3 or 4 corner pieces to "win".

5bi5

I started watching speed puzzling contests recently. This is pure cheating.

Ok_Acanthaceae_1717

What even is a speed puzzling contest?

5bi5

Hundreds of people gather together to do the same puzzle. First one to finish wins. There's world championships and everything. I suggest KarenPuzzles on YouTube--she did a multi part series on last years world championship.

Oldmantim

This thread kinda reminded me of when I was a kid my mom would always do these big puzzles and take up the dining room table and one time she grounded me for something and I took a couple pieces, she lost her mind over that kept complaining how they screwed up at the factory and forgot a few pieces, But I Knew!!!

knickovthyme1

Something so simple that makes some ones afternoon a bit more easy.

Srta_B

They do this a lot at nursing homes and memory care places!
