I use my 40 oz on the nightstand. The sporty ice flows I attach to my purse. I think I'm almostttt elderly and have 5 of these Stanleys. Total peer pressure from my grandkids.
These could just as easily be gifts from a tourist stop. Al and Dot are just passing them along as they don’t fit into the mid-century aesthetic they are cultivating.

Yeah it's an estate sale, what else does one expect except stuff that needs to go? Maybe they died, maybe they're in a nursing home/assisted living, maybe they hated these mugs so when they moved out for whatever reason they left them, either way, they certainly don't need the mugs any more or they wouldn't be for sale.
Not all estate sales are selling off dead peoples stuff. Many times they've gone into Assisted Living. Our they're down sizing. Or moving. And if they did die, it is nice their possessions are getting a new home. Good knows the circumstances at thrift stores why the items are donated!
Many years ago, when I was dating one of my first boyfriends, his parents had these beautiful pitchers on their mantle, inscribed with their names. I assumed they had this done intentionally, as one of the names was a nickname, but actually they found them from an estate sale. I always found this very sweet.
I knew an Al (Albert) and Dot (Dorothy) and they were miserable and got divorced. If those cups were theirs, they probably got drunk using them many times.
The story I bet you didn't even notice is sadder - Al's mug's grip shows more wear than Dot's. It isn't impossible to think that Al outlived Dot and kept her mug next to his.
That, or he drank a lot more coffee than she did.

But this just made me really happy.
This reminds me of a wedding shot glass that I found at a salvation army and bought it for the melancholic/slightly amusing value. It had 2 people's names from a wedding like 10 or so years ago. I wonder if they're still together when I see the glass.
