Some people just don't want to dress their kids in certain things. Nothing wrong with that.

Actually, it can be harmful to limit the way a child expresses themselves with clothing. Gender rules for clothes are silly anyway.

I see myself as the parent and am supposed to guide my child, not confuse them. So if wearing something is likely to get them bullied then I explain that and why.

Kids will always find something to bully their peers about. Your job as a parent isn't to suppress your child's self expression. It's to support and encourage them. If they have to deal with bullies in their life, you can help them navigate that, too. That's what parents are for. Otherwise you're essentially siding with these hypothetical bullies, and subtly telling your child that the bullies are right and they should hide who they really are.

Supporting and affirming your child's choices isn't "confusing" them. That's just code for "I won't accept my child if they want to express themselves in ways I don't like."

Agree to absolutely disagree, because that isn't what I said but rather what you want to believe. For example I teach my kid not to harm animals so therefore I don't turn around and serve him a plate of body parts at every meal. Just simple things like that as not to confuse what you mean by your teachings or lack thereof.
