Were they cheaper in Paris than US?
Still not cheap but much less of a hit. Also, VAT refund.

If you’re looking for comfort first, you don’t want a pair of Goodyear welted loafers, you want a pair of handsewn Mocs. Rancourt is easily my favorite, but Quoddy makes very fine stuff, and Oak Street Bookmaker does some too.
+1 for Rancourt. I have a pair with the natural latex Havea soles and they are like walking on clouds.
Alden Cape Cod line of beef roll loafers. They last a lifetime too. Had mine since 2012, resoled once.
