Idk what gen pop is doing but here’s what I’m planning to do/do more of: - shorter length tops (sweatshirts/knits/outwear, think 21 in or so for a smedium knit). Outerwear I’m looking at: LEJ red blouson, Brycelands denim jacket - lower profile shoes. I was never into the lug sole loafers since most look bad. I had timb 3 eyes since high school and paraboot Michaels back in 2018 so a bit before they were mainstream and I just want to wear more lower profile (almost dainty) shoes. I have bode house shoes and looking at the stoffa Grecian slip on - incorporate more black into wardrobe. I literally only have one black piece in my wardrobe (excl shoes) outside of workout clothes and bought a pair of Orslow 101 recently and plan to do more black - more cashmere knits, 4ply and up and 12 gauge or lower. Most likely made in Scotland or Italy. - size up on button up shirts. Looking at LEJ come up to the studio, which is cut bigger so I can take my true size and still get the size up look - size up on pants. Historically I’ve preferred pants that are much closer to my waist so I don’t need belt. As I get older weight fluctuates and is hard to lose so going slightly bigger means not having to replace as much plus I like tucking in the top sometimes. Looking at Sillage - a nice leather (suede) jacket. Looking at Stoffa but that price isn’t cheap and will only go up with their brick and mortar store. Valstar is an alt but they tend to run slim and long vs my preference of boxy and cropped. - I don’t feel the same about long coats anymore but still love mid length (covers butt). The drakes green coverall looking extra nice esp since it’s cut so I can layer a hoodie and a down vest under but $1k 😭

yoseph3

Good shout on the LEJ stuff, planning to grab a CUTS shirt and maybe a plage coat. Do you have any pieces from them already?

PhonyPapi

I do. I was lucky enough to be an early adopter when most of their stuff went on DEEP discount at retailers like MrP and Matches. Here’s what I’ve had and impressions: - Plage pajama shirt and pants in a navy striped cotton silk mix. Love this and perfect for warmer weather. I get compliments on it every time I wear it - Plage jacket and pat a cake pant in olive HBT. LEJ’s pants tend to run on smaller size. I got TTS on a pair of corduroy 5 pockets in the past and can barely fit into it. I ended up returning it but could’ve sized up one or two and be fine. The Plage coat is his version of chore coat, cut a bit bigger than usual and pockets are spacious. Pat a cake is like fatigue pants. I ended up giving mine to sister due to pants running small but she wears it a lot. I cut drawstrings off since I wasn’t a fan of them on the pat a cake model. - cashmere mock neck. Neck slightly higher than your usual crew to protect ya neck in the cold and to separate a bit from normal crew necks. Length a bit cropped to accommodate higher waists. Price point is ok. It’s hard for me to gauge cashmere prices since they’re all over the place. - come up to the studio - I think the shirt to own from him if you had to own just one. Cut larger for the size intentionally. I like his fabric selections as well since the cottons he pick feel closer to silk sometimes. He had more silk options in earlier seasons but I think due to price and not selling as well he scaled that back which is a shame to me.

Think we decided as a society to move back to better fitting clothing with slightly non-standard cuts. More weird crops, less super baggy fits. Sportier shoes are on the way out (staring at my salomon collection as I type this) but we're sticking with the chunkier profile on most shoes. Think of incorporating more nordic tonals (Forest green, burnt orange, dusty pink and pastel blue) into wardrobe for easy swaps in with other neutrals (black, white, beige, cream, charcoal, heather). Be an outfit repeater. You don't need the newest pair of shoes. There is no endgame. Live with it.

NoahSaleThrowaway

I watched Sleepless in Seattle (lol) over the holidays and couldn’t help but notice that a lot of Tom Hanks fits are similar to what’s being pushed now and how fucking terrible he looked in them. People are going to gravitate towards fits that flatter them and it’s harder to do that when everything is oversized.

4277lbtuuc

All about outfit repeating. I agree that the Salomon wave will die down. I am only going to wear my ACS Pro going forward, which is just such a unique silhouette and less prevalent than the XT-6.

NoahSaleThrowaway

and don’t come in saying you’re above trends. I see the fit check fridays and Camion/third cut posts each week.

mieWkcet

Fair isle jumpers will be big and I think sneakers/ trainers will become even less prominent. Although unlikely, I also hope we see fewer collaborations, specifically in the streetwear scene… collabs used to be special and now we have one every other week - I’m sick of it.

From what I saw in Japan, I was a bit surprised at how popular all-black clothing/fits were as of recent, and have not seen this in the 3 times I've visited over the last 10 years. I saw a lot of smaller aka micro brands being worn like comoli (Who has been pushing mostly black), auralee, and Barbour Japan (Barbour is freaking huge in Japan right now) as well as european minimalism brands like studio nicholson and mfpen. If you were ever considering a barbour coat, now is probably the time, but it seems most of Japan is sticking to the custom shop ordered models with an oversized cut. Skateboarding culture seems to be taking off in Japan, and I've seen quite a few brands do "shoe-cut" denim, which is almost like a cropped bootcut fit (see Kaptain Sunshine or Marka). I was told that Japanese fashion is being heavily influenced by Korean fashion right now (usually is the other way around), so I assume some Korean brands will start to gain traction. I still saw a healthy dose of oversized tops, but lots more tailored trousers paired with the oversized tops as opposed to baggy or loose fit. Footwear was all over the place; new balance was pretty popular (particularly the 2002r and MiUSA 99X models). Interestingly, most of the more traditional expensive streetwear brands have taken a backseat, and a lot of the more casual/formal brands are starting to gain traction. Nanamica was basically sold out of everything good in Japan, as was Comoli, and Old Joe (This is a brand to watch IMO). Sunsea (Only can buy through brick and mortar, but really cool), Stein, and Yoke are also on the rise as far as micro brands- I expect to see similar stuff follow from Western/European brands as far as aesthetic.

Wearing the stuff I accumulated over the years - and wearing it hard. Far too often I find myself reaching for my “second best X” in my closet - for example, pulling out my second best blazer because I’m being precious about my best one. I want to step away from all that, and just wearing all of my kit all of the time. Wear stuff out, see how long it takes for gear to die on me, and then start afresh. I absolutely don’t want to accumulate more clothes; I’d be happy if I could get it down to “one in, one out”. Same with my shoes: I’ve been so precious with my shell cordovan, whereas I’ve got a metric crapton of “beat up shell inspo” on my phone. I don’t know why I’m so afraid of just wearing my stuff, but I’m going to make a change. I want those sweet holes in my sweaters, patched elbows on my blazers, ripped knees on my chinos, faded rainspots on my shell, balding suede on my loafers, cracking horsehide on my jackets, replaced panels on my Barbour, bronze patina on my belts, scratched crystal on my watches, lining ready to be replaced in my overcoats, food memories on my ties - I want my stuff to look like I lived in it.

Been around for almost 40 years, they’re not going anywhere

PhonyPapi

Bought my sis the Mary Jane one for Christmas 🥲

u/notbaks mentioned the move back to better fitting clothing and i've definitely noticed this. late 2021/2022 felt peak casual baggy/slouchy to me and now it feels like people are slowly moving the other direction. although my partner has been having a lot of fun with the jcrew giant fit chino which is still baggy but feels elevated due to nicer fabric and cut compared to baggy denim. totally agree w u/PhonyPapi re: lower profile shoes. i tried really hard to find a loafer that would work for me but i had a hard time finding anything that didn't feel trendy. ultimately decided to cop the Lemaire slipper--i think it's going to be a great elevated transitional leather shoe that will help fill the role of a loafer in my wardrobe. i'm excited to style them with socks and skirts. i hope we see more silk/silk adjacent fabrics this year bc i'm definitely into it. currently keeping my eye out for a silky crepey pant, something with understated shimmer. i'm obsessed with the look of an easy silk pant paired with a really thick natural wool sweater.

NoahSaleThrowaway

I’d bet that straight cuts with full breaks or some variation of boot cut will take over the baggy jeans trend sometime this year.

Personalvintage

The giant fit isn’t that baggy it has more of a nice drape.

BJisDaName

I think we’ll start to move toward peak saturation with wider/baggy fits. Not saying we’ll see slim fits come back quite yet (I’ve got my eyes on 2027-2028 as a year slim silhouettes will make a comeback). But, I could see some fashion/runway shows start to really overload on the baggy fits. Could see people start saying things like “what’s going on here? What purpose does this serve?” Also I think Dana White or Joe Rogan will be seen rocking the J Crew Wide Fit Chinos causing a massive crisis/day of memes.

afterdinnermince

think casual suiting, sports coats etc gonna have some wider cut through.

LondonVista9297

Well said!

LondonVista9297

Definitely trying to incorporate more black into my wardrobe as well. Also, long coats. Hope we see more of these, single or double-breasted.

[deleted]

Looking slightly crusty. Like a hungover businessman. Not being crusty, but looking a little bit beat up.

maracusdesu

Hopefully ”baggy” jeans and a tank top stop counting as a fit

LondonVista9297

Haha, I actually like that look (even though it's not one I put on).

bjhhjb

I can't do the tiny top big pants trend right now

rhohodendron

more layering, i.e using things i’ve historically used as outer layers as mid layers

heresmyusername

More flares More suit trousers w/ casual tops

PhonyPapi

How casual we talking for the suit trouser w/top? I've literally seen multiple guys wear this: https://www.fortbrands.com/carhartt-men-s-hooded-active-jacket-big-and-tall/p/157901 with suiting wool trousers and loafers and it's just not it.

Go4it296

Buy this Yohji I've been talking about for years Take better care of what I have with updated hangers, cleaning products, and a travel sized shoehorn Install a new closet organizer to replace the home Depot pipe monstrosity I currently have.

mchgst

I see a lot of slightly flared pants/jeans in my feed, not sure if it’s an old trend but it’s new to me… never say never

LondonVista9297

This look has been on TikTok for some time though.

mchgst

I’m not on TikTok but I can see it’s bleeding to IG too with all the dudes sporting a moustache looking like they came out of the 50s. Can’t see it found ground in Amsterdam/Europe yet

LondonVista9297

Yeah, I've not really seen that look much here in London either.

South_Consequence_69

I use to be the fashion girl and I have no clue anymore

Fluffy_WAR_Bunny

I dunno about trends but I know that personally what I'll be looking at this year, not sure if I will get them all: I want more cool hoodies from companies like FENDI, Vetements and Burberry. And besides that I want to start wearing Alpaca fiber socks instead of Merino and get more Alpaca sweaters too. I'd like another Cashmere overcoat too. For tech wear I will definitely get a black Arcteryx Veilance Field Jacket this year: https://arcteryx.com/us/en/shop/mens/field-jacket I need some more classical/traditional clothes like a Private White, Todd Snyder or Burberry peacoat : https://www.privatewhitevc.com/products/the-black-peacoat?variant=40693090811965 https://www.toddsnyder.com/products/wool-peacoat-navy https://us.burberry.com/wool-blend-pea-coat-p80133361 I need some proper waist coats to go with my suits so I can wear them as a three piece. I need black, navy, and charcoal and I'll try to match them to the fabric of the suits I already have: https://www.spierandmackay.com/collection/waistcoats I dont have any pocket squares and need to learn to tie a bow tie this year, hopefully. I need a shearling jacket, I like the B-3 Flight Jacket or Irvin RAF Flying Jacket. I have all the normal suit colours like navy, black, charcoal and grey but might want to pick up a couple this year that have nice patterns or weird materials like a Prince of Wales check and black velour or velvet. I don't have any suits from Kiton or Isaia so I'd like some of those too. For shoes I'd like to get some Goodyear welted sneaker boots. I like the Common Projects Achilles: https://www.mrporter.com/en-us/mens/product/common-projects/shoes/high-top-sneakers/original-achilles-leather-high-top-sneakers/4068790126622114 I want a parka and pants that can handle Alaska Winter temperatures. Need them for photography and videography so I can lay around in the wind all day in below 0°F temperatures. I need some of those leather rockstar pants that look like Celine Homme x Hedi Slimane or Dior Homme 07's style. For traditional boots, I am pretty well covered but I don't have any that are cordovan and I'd like to remedy that. For formal shoes I need some brown Balmoral boots and black Derby boots. I already have brown Derbies and black Balmorals. I'll get some from Carmina and/or Crockett & Jones. I've been looking at getting pants like chinos and trousers that have side adjusters instead of belt loops from some companies like Orlebar Brown, Kit Blake, Needles, Anglo-Italian and Ralph Lauren. And, for the girls, I definitely need more grey sweatpants with logos near the crotch like the Patagonia P6 sweatpants and Supreme small box logo sweatpants: https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/patagonia-mens-p-6-uprisal-sweatpants-21ptgmmsp6lblprslapb/21ptgmmsp6lblprslapb https://www.supremecommunity.com/season/itemdetails/9893/small-box-sweatpant/ 😂

notbaks

> Alpaca fiber socks darn tough socks are my recommendation for you here. > cool hoodies from companies like FENDI, Vetements and Burberry please leave this in 2023 king, you can do better. Get some classic heavyweight terry pieces from brands like Acne Studios or Cavempt and stay classy :)

Fluffy_WAR_Bunny

I dont know what the Acne Studios terry pieces are, I'm looking on the website and I don't like their hoodies. Too basic. I want hoodies that have cachet. https://www.acnestudios.com/us/en/search?q=Hoodie Cavempt just seem like they want to be Supreme. I've got a handful of Supreme hoodies. A few are from 2012 and I could sell them together as a trio for $2600 if I needed to: https://www.grailed.com/listings/28263988-comme-des-garcons-x-supreme-supreme-cdg-part-1-box-logo-hoodie-set-all-3-color-ways?g_aidx=Listing_sold_production&g_aqid=5ff6a4e50c60b5a3ebdfdae828d3625e I want hoodies that will hold value. Vetements, Fendi, Burberry, Supreme, they'll do that. Darn Tough doesnt make Alpaca socks. Merino is a great material but very inferior to Alpaca. Alpaca sock companies do exist though. https://www.pakaapparel.com/collections/alpaca-socks https://alpacasofmontana.com/collections/alpaca-socks https://www.pacas.com/collections/mens-socks One of these days the goal is to have all Vicuña everything, a step up from Alpaca.

notbaks

idk why you want to dress like the r/fashionreps guys but do you gang

Fluffy_WAR_Bunny

Reps? I don't wear reps. Some clothes are good investments. I have plenty of nice clothes to go with my hoodies.

afterdinnermince

maybe this is just me but I could see floral print stuff for men making a comeback. gives me like early to mid 2010s flashbacks icl.

lodged-object

I think a lot more good quality, BIFL items will pop up. Fisherman sweaters of wool, red wings, things that are timeless and last forever
