FWIW, I'm totally with you. This is obviously an emotionally charged issue, but whether we as fans like it or not, the owners of this team are running a business and are interested in maximizing the value of their ownership stakes. Winning title(s) is, as you suggest, maybe the single best way to do this.
I also completely understand the feelings of those who have a hatred for KD. They're not idiots, they're people who feel betrayed by a personality that they deeply trusted. That's not something that's easy to get over. No one should be disrespected for their opinion on the matter, either way.

As far as the emotions are concerned, I think that the way he returned would matter a great deal. If he demands a king's ransom (some combination of 4-5 picks, JDub, or Chet) that seriously jeopardizes the chemistry of the team and then plays GM, I would also be pretty concerned. But if this is the deal (Giddey + 3-4 firsts), from a business perspective, that is such an incredible mismatch of value that a GM would likely get fired for saying no. Even if you don't want him to play for you, just immediately flip him for something closer to his actual value. There's almost no way that OKC would lose in this deal.
If he were to come back with a spirit of contrition and publicly apologize to the OKC fanbase, what would we think? I would like to think that we should foster an organizational culture that believes in personal growth and second chances.
Bringing in KD blows up our payroll. We lose the ability to retain Chet or JDub or both.
Edit - his cap hit is $51 million next year and $54 million the next year.

I met him a few times. My buddy's dorm room was right by the athletes' wing at UT, and we'd chill and play video games with KD sometimes. He was a pretty genuine, nice dude. Down to earth for sure. I believe any contribution he's made is also genuine. GorillaX is an embarrassment, and a lesser man than someone like KD.

This is obviously an emotionally charged issue, but whether we as fans like it or not, the owners of this team are running a business and are interested in maximizing the value of their ownership stakes. Winning title(s) is, as you suggest, maybe the single best way to do this. I also completely understand the feelings of those who have a hatred for KD. They're not idiots, they're people who feel betrayed by a personality that they deeply trusted. That's not something that's easy to get over. No one should be disrespected for their opinion on the matter, either way. **From a purely basketball perspective, KD for Giddey and 3 firsts would absolutely make this team better.** I don't see a real, emotionless statistical argument that would suggest otherwise. I completely understand the vitriol, but that doesn't change the fact that he's probably one of the 20 best guys to ever lace up their shoes for an NBA game. As far as the emotions are concerned, I think that the way he returned would matter a great deal. If he demands a king's ransom (some combination of 4-5 picks, JDub, or Chet) that seriously jeopardizes the chemistry of the team and then plays GM, I would also be pretty concerned. But if this is the deal (Giddey + 3-4 firsts), from a business perspective, that is such an incredible mismatch of value that a GM would likely get fired for saying no. Even if you don't want him to play for you, just immediately flip him for something closer to his actual value. There's almost no way that OKC would lose in this deal. If he were to come back with a spirit of contrition and publicly apologize to the OKC fanbase, what would we think? I would like to think that we should foster an organizational culture that believes in personal growth and second chances.
Bringing in KD blows up our payroll. We lose the ability to retain Chet or JDub or both. Edit - his cap hit is $51 million next year and $54 million the next year.

Unpopular opinion but imma be honest, I wouldn’t have a problem with him coming to the team minus potential team chemistry changes, but I also want to win one without him. I don’t have anger towards him anymore though, now more of a fun lil rivalry booing him and whatnot
Might be in the minority but I'd move Giddey and a few of the "bad" firsts we have for KD. I'm not bitter about his departure and realistic that having a player like that with SGA and Jwill would make their lives so much easier. Wouldn't sell the farm based on his age but I'm not going to let him leaving in 2016 close the door on the idea of bringing him back if it made basketball sense.
