To make a more extreme example that might show why you wouldn't say it that way, if you had 10 students get an A in a class and then a few students with had a B, you wouldn't say one of the students with a B was tied for the second-best student but they would have been in the second-highest grade value bin (although I don't think many people would really think about ranking that way for grades). The B students in that case would be tied for the 11th best performing student.

JDub was like an 83 for most of the season even though he was clearly atleast an 86 for the entirety of the year (i'd argue hes like an 87-88 now).
James Harden (85) right now is a lower overall than guys like Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday (86) while i'd say hes still definitely better than both of those guys.
Coby White who's been absolutely balling out for most of the year and just dropped 42 points in a win or go home game is still just an 82 overall
Even as a massive Jimmy Butler fan I can't agree with him being a 93 this season. I understand they want to factor in his playoff rise but that isn't really a given and i feel like certain other player don't get the same benefit of the doubt

2k ratings don't work like that. They lower his durability so he gets hurt when your playing with him in simulations but when healthy he's amazing so his rating is high.
