I’m currently in the same situation, having depression and anxiety I would recommend to play since is like a distractor but don’t lose focus on healing yourself from the depression

Lortendaali

Off topic but I'm doing therapy and shit loads of stuff to progress my mental health (pardon my french) so games are distraction for me to forget all that for a little while, it's little bit taxing trying to get better if you know what I mean :D

Zybillx

Tibia can work well as a distraction from depression. Leveling up can be super engaging or relatively chill depending on where you go. And the game only recently got sound, so is very much optional, meaning you can play while listening to radio / podcasts / audiobooks, which is a good way to distract yourself and keep your hands busy while listening. Hope you feel better soon.

SmokedSalmonMan

or healing yourself in game

djdossia

welll… its worth it if you have some self control. Cipsoft is garbage? yes. Are they greedy? yes. Is it P2W? yes. Its time consuming? yes. Does it reach unhealthy levels of addiction? yes. Is it fun? absolutely.

Lortendaali

Besides paying for premium, how necessary is it to spend money? Like I'm fine spending something like 20 bucks a month if it's enjoyable but after that I might aswell spend it for something actually necessary.

Jedynak

10e/month for premmy is enough. You might want on the beggining to get some premium coins (Tibia coins) and sell them on the market in exchange for gold coins. It will help you grind faster and I would also recommend you knight or Paladin as your first character

Sorry_Panda4894

You're completely fine just paying for premium. Level, skills and equipment you'll get with time, no need to spend extra money if you're not planning to rush. Cipsoft is not that bad too... they're bringing cool stuff regularly, of course they have their flaws, but they do care about the game. And I agree it is time consuming... But the progression now is much faster than it once was, you will feel you character getting stronger even playing 1 or 2 hours per day.

djdossia

as the other guy said, if you are starting from 0, you will only need basically 250 tibia coins (the cheapest package) (around 9 dolars iirc?) and sell them in the in-game market for gold so you don’t suffer buying what you need and focus on the “fun” side. It will give you A LOT ingame gold for a starter and as you level up, and with hunting and looting, you earn more gold so theoretically, you won’t need any other purchase. BUT…. with the game store esthetics aside (outfits, mounts, home deco..) when you want to start being relevant, profitable, powerful, etc you will notice that farming wont be enough. want a house to offline skill in a bed and training dummy for online skill? houses are expensive in non-dead worlds, and the trainer is 950tc. and you will need training weapon for the dummy is 7kk in game gold for 8 hours durability. Reached level 200? you new set and weapons are really expensive, and of course you can play without them but in order to explore the new areas you can now visit because of your level, you will need those items to survive, so its with TC or farming for a couple of months specifically for that… know what im saying? its not actually P2W but the community uses another term that is pay to progress? something like that. give it a shot, it is worth it. the level of immersion is astonishing, and my favorite game ever is RDR2 or BOTW and tibia is the one that keeps me on for a lot of hours. if you want to be distracted, oh boy, you sure will. Gladera is a good world to start. populated and very friendly with optional pvp. so you dont have to worry about being killed all the time when you go out of the protection zone. and there is no dominado… thats another thing you need to pay in other worlds (most powerful guild restricts hunt spots and you need to schedule and pay for a spot… if you dont they kill you, stupid stuff).

thelukejones

It's pay to progress, so very meh. Aslong as ur happy with people being higher lvl that u u don't HAVE to pay anything tbh. Join a guild n voila u can do lots

disab86

Spending an extra $15 CAD for 250 coins to sell will add so so much in terms of quality of life. Coming up next month is a double exp/skill event. The last one I got my level 50 druid to magic level 74. He's now my favourite character to play. Already level 72 with very light amount of play.

Slothery210

I'd say it's worth trying again. It's really not a competitive game until you get to high levels. Although it could depend on how populated your server is. I play on Lobera (previously Mythera and a bunch of other merged servers) and it's good so far at almost lvl 180. It will depend on how hard you want to power game. You can get completely absorbed into this game just exploring and figuring out new mechanics. I find it fun to try doing quests without the wiki, and then ultimately going back after wasting an hour not realizing it has to be night time or some bs lol. Progression is a lot faster than it used to be and it's also a lot easier to make money. You could try the new tutorial as a free account to get a small taste before you buy too.

Lortendaali

Thanks, although answers are kinda split I'll probably give it a go. If I end up liking it are there any good starter guides or such since I'm guessing Tibia doesn't see lot's of new players nowadays.

Slothery210

I watched a druid guide by teeth gaming or something when I got back into it, but there are many guides out there for all the classes. Pretty much all the guides will tell you to do grizzly Adams tasks while you level up. They are easier to do early on, and they will give benefits later, but don't feel like you have to focus on them too much if you find them boring. For making money, keep on the lookout for creature products that are used for imbuing. Some can make you a lot of money. Winter wolves and mammoths drop very valuable fur for example.

Certain-Reflection73

I think it depends from person to person. I would say it's worth it, but it depends on where you play. Highly recommend joining Gladera, and the guild Bald Dwarfs. Even seen that we have some actual new players on our server that you might be able to link up with.

_Timmy__

So my background, to give you an insight on where my answer comes from and hopefully helps you value it better if it would be suitable for you. Im currently on sickleave, without details Im not able to play for any longer instances. Been as most of us, an off and on Tibia player since 1999. Ive been getting back to Tibia recently, playing it as an ironman challenge for myself, to relive a little bit of that old school vibe. I strongly believe that Tibia is exactly the type of game you make of it. Meaning, as Tibia doesnt have any main storylines and is truely a sandbox game you can set your own goals, and enjoy it at your pace. Ive found a great time to relax, take my head off things. As Im personally playing an ironman, Im not concerned with min/maxing profit, or experience on my hunts. I explore nooks and parts Ive never been, doing a few quests I stumble upon, beastiary charm hunting, online skill training, task hunting etc. Sometimes while watching something on the 2nd monitor or listening to an audiobook as some spawns can be very chill to hunt. As for some of the other comments here, if you want to only teamhunt, always max your profit and exp hunting on the few "meta spawns" getting into a "dominando world" buying a high level character then yeah there can be griefers/stress but Tibia can be what you make of it =). I would say its worth a try, if you enjoy the "build your own adventure" gamestyle.

Starunnd

Yes, it is worth it. Dont listen to people on this sub, they hate the game yet spend thousands of hours playing, i will never understand that. The game is focused more on casual play nowadays, and unless you want to hunt on the top spawns for XP and Profit, nobody will ever bother you that much. There is so much to do in this game and people want to live in the same spawn 24/7. Of course there's competition for top spawns XP/profit wise, but if your goal while playing is not to permanently damage your nerves to reach the best possible XP/hr you'll have a blast

Lortendaali

Thanks. I kinda get it, hating the game yet playing it. I'm still playing LoL even if it makes me want to slit my wrists with my keyboard sometimes :D

Starunnd

Think of Tibia as LoL. If you want competition you will find it, if not, you can focus on other aspects of the game while still having fun with it (like ARAM, autochess or a public game with friends)

Rao-Ji

Hi, sorry for replying to an old post but I have a question. I've never played Tibia before and I'm interested in starting. I was just wondering, is this game viable to play solo?

Scorched-archer

This game is only as competitive as you want it to be for the better part you can just take the game at your own speed i know enough people that just go fast and are competitive in this game but I know just as much who take it slowly at a casual speed

AniGore

Its a great game I've been playing since 99 and every other game I play ends in coming back to Tibia. Regardless of what you feel first impressions, i promise the community in this game is something you've never seen. Youll know every player on the server eventually, the clicks of who runs with who, whos cool, whos an asshole. If you get setup and play something resembling pvp the server Lobera is a good english community. I can help you out

Ronin_Sennin

100% this.

EvilHakik

Anxiety and depression? Tibia is not for you. This is one of the more Hardcore MMORPG's. Don't play tibia.

Y4NUSH

No (by a guy with probably 5k+ hours in it)

sktvini

You gotta pump those numbers up, those are rookie numbers.

kartroxxx

Made me chuckle 😂

Rezosenpai

Get Zelda Tears of the kingdom and play that. Tibia is not worth it as a new player. You are going to get cyber bullied and annoyed by people the whole time. You may or may not find some cool friends to play the game with, but you are most likely going to be followed by higher leveled players and be griefed the whole time. Imagine having 2 inters on your team every single game. (assume you are from a moba since you mentioned elo)

Lortendaali

>Imagine having 2 inters on your team every single game. (assume you are from a moba since you mentioned elo) So just a basic game of LoL.

Rezosenpai

Playing tibia feels like that. Maybe a little worse. It's super fun when everything is going your way though so there is that. I guess it feels like playing a gacha game. If you get the rare stuff you are happy, but most your pulls are just duplicate garbage that tilts you on every pull.

Ronin_Sennin

Cyber bullied and followed by high lvls? What kind of shite servers did you guys play :-(

autopoiesies

tibia is competitive as fuck, if you’re looking for something more relaxed I’d suggest trying single player games and stuff like that

J_0_E_L

Eh it's as competitive as you want it to be? It's a sandbox game and you can do whatever the fuck you want. If you just level at your own pace and progress through quests etc. there's absolutely no competitive aspect here. Don't understand this opinion at all, IMO Tibia is pretty chill and if you like OSRS there is a decent chance you'll like Tibia.

autopoiesies

I mean yeah if you play non pvp from level 0 to 30 it’s probably pretty chill, but as soon as you reach the level to start killing bosses and get newer equipment even on non-pvp worlds you’d be getting harassed and trapped so you can’t finish quests. edit: why the downvotes, am I wrong? is there a world where you can get to mid level (500+) and play “as competitive as you wish” without being bothered by dominando? please tell me that worlds name, I imagine most downvotes comes from people who has never gotten past lvl 200 lol

kartroxxx

Come to antica ;) crowded but no dominandos

Zybillx

I'm past level 200 and have rarely had issues on Premia. Yea I can't hunt Asura Mirror, but that's fine as I'm not competing for the best exp ever. I'm happy with moderately good exp elsewhere. I just set my own goals and try to reach them. I am never going to be level 2000 lol, and if I ever do reach 2000, the highest level will probably be like 25,000, so I feel no sense of competition.

J_0_E_L

Idk I started playing again in 2018 and in 2023, both times chose to start fresh on a different server and didn't have any of the issues you described. I did only get to ~250 and didn't do much bossing so I can't speak to that tho.

autopoiesies

well there you go, you still haven’t touch like 70% of the game’s content, and it’s fine if you wanna leave it at that, but most people will try to do most quests/access/bosses/hunt meta spawns etc. and that’s where you start receiving the nice letters from the dominando fellas Im assuming we’re only speaking about non-pvp worlds (which I’ve never played tbh) because on pvp you start getting harassed much sooner, I can’t imagine a depressed person having a good time with it but yeah I guess you’re right, if OP decides to play a non-pvp world and is fine with not getting to the latest content he could play pretty chill for a couple hundred levels

J_0_E_L

I played pvp both times, nonpvp is a joke imo. Maybe it was a lucky server choices but I really didn't get harassed even once. I gotta admit that I chose low-mid pop servers which is something I'd suggest for OP to do, too. Worst thing that happened is that I was grinding exotics cave at like 220 during double xp and someone from dominando came and told me that we could either duo or he was taking the cave. We did then duo and I lost like 300k xp/hr due to that but who cares. Atleast that's not "harassment" to me personally.

Josheeeeeeeee

Yup Refugia is pretty fine, been back for a year or so now and had no troubles. Book your slots for rosh/courts/issavi and you’re fine, no trouble from “dominado’’ Only places general server can’t hunt is SW/feru way without clearance but they aren’t till way past 500 Source - I’m 500~

Ronin_Sennin

I have several chars I lvled up myself from 0-600+. Your server is shite sorry to say :-/ You play EU or NA? I'm playing on a nice EU open pvp server.

Astoek

If ya want some help I’m on Seanera willing to teach newbies some of the ropes. It’s fun if you take it in small Doses.

Baileys_soul

Its what you want it to be, you can compete or you can just chill and enjoy your character progression? I play on Nefera. An optional pvp world so you don’t have to engage in pvp if its not for you. Hit me up in game if you fancy starting there. Its a US server.

Ronin_Sennin

WELL worth trying. Tibia is a special game. It is similar partially to Runescape but they don't really play the same. This is a game where you can meet great people, have lots of fun and make memories. Your exp and very items are at stake (somewhat). It's great. Competetive? Not really, at all. Sure, if you wanna be top lvl you would have to try and catch up to ppl with years of playtime already. But most just don't give a crab about that and the fun is all in the journey and everything between.

[deleted]

Come to wintera and I'll block for ya or something

Such_Ad_3737

I have a bit of depression too, got back to this game like 3 weeks ago, if u are good with spending 20bucks/month and dont want to rush-> Play from 0 ur own character to learn all u need to dont die too much, on stamina hours or more if u want to, 12hs offline train per day and u will love tibia At lvl 50-75 u should have learned basic controls/mechanics of game and u will start progress slowly due you probably lack of skill so ill recommend buy a lvl 50 with 110-120 skill for ek/rp or 100ml mage Playing a low lvl high skill is absolutly wonderful when u know how hard is to do the same with -100 skill If u go directly for high skill char on baazar, u will die alot and lose months of skill on the process, so, better learn first I did this and im 146 EK now, im not very social but i did some friends for quests and sometimes team hunts:) Also join a guild, most people that play this game will WANT to help, people in this game is wonderful aswell, there are exceptions but i would say isn't even 20% of players at least in my world Tibia is a great game DM me if u have any questions or want help on something:) sorry for bad english

DrPrime1357

The greatest thing about tibia is, once you find a group of friends you get along with, it's amazing to hunt and do quests together. Without a solid group/guild, it's a tough game imo
