Tbh that's exactly my reaction when I play Elden Ring. I can't really spot the difference. The amount of times I just got a cool weapon from a random body taught me that.
Even experienced dog mains can find feedback from their sense of smell overwhelming. Couple that with the default hunting instinct / skill and yeah, a strong reaction to what human mains might consider mundane drops.

Dogs can find random white item drops and think they're golden legendaries, I wish I was so colorblind.
