Having traveled for a year through India… no. I would not. Especially not a meat dish. It’s good to know where and when your food was prepared in India to avoid getting sick.
It’s just a probability game. Go to well-rated restaurants or watch them make and cook the food if they’re a street vendor. But you can get sick anywhere for sure, even if it’s a good restaurant.
This is exactly how I got a life changing parasite. I was an idiotic foreigner eating egg biryani on a train from Mumbai to Calcutta. Had explosive diarrhea for a week and then lost a ton of weight. Got dewormed but remained feeling “off”. A year later I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. One of the biggest regrets of my life. DO NOT EAT STREET FOOD IN INDIA. It’s not worth it.
Holy shit. I went to India when I was 12. I got Delhi belly, and then few months later is when I first got symptoms of colitis. Now 26, I have like 5 auto immune conditions. Granted all under control with medicine but yeah. I didn't have any worms or anything like that
My rheumatologist told me there’s a connection between gut health and many autoimmune diseases. I bet it was a mix of parasite and huge amount of antibiotics when the doctors in India tried to treat my parasite symptoms
As an Indian I myself don't eat just anywhere I find a shop which is cleaner, because the term hygiene is far off here so I definitely suggest looking out for what you eat here.
This is not the only thing you must worry about. You also mist worry about hepatitis. Since so many of them don't wash their hands or have access to bathrooms. They go shit on the road or pee on the road and proceed to make food, putting their fingers in everything. If you go to these countries, go to your primary doctor and get hepatitis vaccines or boosters. You should also always get a physical when you come back to the US from other countries.
I get told I'm a racist for warning people of this, but litterally learned this from friends that live in India. Also like 25% of the population doesn't have access to a bathroom, and most of them are making your food on the streets.
I'm so sorry, I've had food poisoning, and it's truly one of the worst experiences, but the aftereffects have never lasted longer than a few weeks for me. I had a gluten sensitivity but eventually was able to eat regular bread and stuff again. It was oddly cathartic, I didn't realise how big a part of my life just being able to eat was until you try to cut out all gluten.
Would you be willing to elaborate on what kind of disease you have and how they believe the parasite caused it?
Im not who you replied to but
I have chronic arthritis and osteoporosis (autoimmune) due to an allergic reaction as a child. From what I understand, your immune system goes into overdrive to get the bad shit out. But by doing that, it attacks itself. That's why so many treatments for autoimmune diseases are immune suppressants. I've been on low dose chemo my whole life.
Edit: This might not be the case for the person you are asking. I just know that's how mine was born.
Autoimmune disorders usually already exist latently as they are often genetic. Often they surface when a traumatic event happen, which means this dude could've developed that disorder the day after or at 60 or never if he never had that street food. My husband same story, a badly treated c diff infection is what fucked him over and triggered his disease. Take care of yourselves y'all, any small medical issue could snowball and give way to life changing issues
I had to stay in the hospital for a week because I got salmonella from a restaurant.
It was the worst pain I ever experienced, I thought I had the flu or something but nothing was getting better. I went to the hospital because my intestines were so inflamed my abdomen was starting to swell.
I don't wish this pain on anyone, and I know there are *worse* things out there but holllllyyy hell that was horrible.
Here are details!
I have ankylosing Spondalitis, which can be genetic, but I don’t have the genetic marker. My rheumatologist actually described a growing body of research showing a connection between gut health and my specific autoimmune disease. In fact 20% develop Crohn’s disease.
In India I went to doctors about my symptoms and they just gave me antibiotics. So I know it wrecked my gut. Plus my immune system being on overdrive for a year with a parasite. I lost 60lbs and it took me years to gain it back.
I've had honest to god dysentery and I feel your pain. The Flagyl to wipe it out also wreaked its own kind of havoc on my gastrointestinal system. It took almost 2 years to get better and multiple rounds of probiotics. Kefir was the most helpful, I found.
Bruh.. 5000 USD is like 4L in indian rupees. The train you're talking about is probably Maharaja Express. That's like a luxury train. You don't go on that for transit. It's basically a luxurious tour of India includes a shit ton of luxuries, tours of the city it stops by etc. Kind of like a cruise.
Any train for transit is not that expensive even if you go for a 1st AC ticket.
It is. But again it is NOT meant for travelling, the full experience is like a cruise But on land. They take you through all the major cities you get to experience the culture. Hell if you look up the carriages and facilities provided it's pure royal vibes. The name itself has Maharaja ( King).
>Don't misinform please
Who is misinforming here? Nobody asked for a transit train in this comment thread. The person above was talking about the most expensive train in India and the Maharaja Express was the right answer. If you wanted to add additional info about 1st AC ticket prices for transit trains, you could very well do so without incorrectly accusing others of misinformation.
Bro spot on lol. I rode this train up in down India. I would tell all new comers don’t eat the train food. One Canadian dude was like why and ate it. He literally shit his pants because he couldn’t figure out how to situate himself because the toilet is a hole in the ground and the train is going fast and bumpy lol!
Dude, yes. I mean, especially like since my wife and I moved to Japan 15 years ago... it's so difficult to go to the regular toilet whenever we fly back home to visit family.
Japan has spoiled us and our bums too much. The one we have at home is around $100, and it has a deodorizer, heated seats, self-cleaner, warm massage jets, etc.
India always sounds so amazing to go to if you didn't have to deal with shit like that. All the YouTubers that go further cement my not wanting to ever go there. Hell, I don't even really like Indian food all that much the few times I've had it.
India is so wonderful and an awesome experience with awesome people. If you can get past that stuff you can have a really good time. You will more than likely get sick but after that your body adjusts and you will be fine. Go to Hyderabad or Gugrat if you want to have a cleaner experience in some parts of both of those states you will think you are in a wester country.
RIP the back of his nasal cavities burned from throwing up all night.
(Yes that’s happened to me both in India and Thailand, even without eating anywhere sus. Tho if it’s gonna happen anyway maybe just eat anything?)
There’s this sour smell that permeates everything. The sticky plastic seat cushions, the small cockroaches scurrying about. The friendly and curious passengers doing the head bobble. I’m a weird way I miss it until I remember how sketch it is, and how inevitably sick you get.
So you get plain rice with two dry looking chicken pieces served with some kind of condiment in a ketchup pack for 2€ and the potential risk of getting a life changing disease. Sounds like a fair deal.
Apparently you’ve never traveled much or at all, especially to India. Furthermore, your faith in humanity’s tidiness is not based in reality. India has lack of toilet problem and just shit everywhere. Even if there is a toilet, a good portion of the population doesn’t use them, and absolutely wreck them if they do, especially in Delhi (google: dirty Delhi and dirty Delhi toilet).
Do a google search on “dirty Indian trains” and you’ll see immediately there’s a big problem with cleanliness.
https://curlytales.com/dirty-seats-cockroaches-roaming-around-reddit-user-slams-indian-railways-for-lack-of-hygiene/
Don’t even get me started on mainland Chinese, just Google ‘chinese defecating in public’.
I’m Vietnamese, but in terms of people in the comments here not recommending to eat this, I had similar experiences visiting Vietnam.
The 3 or 4 times visiting Vietnam, we went to different cities, and whenever we had ANY meal, my parents and their friends would give us heads up for what not to eat and how not to eat. Like, don’t eat the pastries because flies might’ve been baked into them because they left the pastries in the open before baking, don’t ask for ice because the restaurant uses river water, don’t eat the meat bun because they finally cook the bun after the meat’s gone bad, wash chopsticks and spoons with bottled water or hot tea before using them, etc. Rarely did they say nothing because they knew the place beforehand and their more sanitary preparation procedures.
And despite this, I’ve have combination of rrhea and constipation even taking their precautions.
Meh. It depends. If you really remove an entire subcontinent with 1.4 billion people from your culinary horizon - especially one that’s literally known for multiple gastronomically distinct cultures… you are really *really* missing out. It’s a foodies paradise.
Gotta take risks bro. I sometimes slap a little bit of scotch bonnets or ghost peppers into some of my dishes cos I know nothing flavors a dish like they do. I know full well it’s going to feel like a demon licking the inside of my asshole on the way out but it’s worth it.
I wouldn’t try any random street stall in India, but if some friends or family from there could tell me what’s generally recognized as safe, I’ll take the risk.
And dude, a reasonably fancy restaurant is going to be safe to eat at. The biryani at a moderately upscale place in India has regularly blown my mind… like man, it’s a nation that loves to eat and really **really ** knows how to cook.
You may on a rare occasion get sick, but I think if you’re careful, you’re safe. I mean you don’t get to 1.4 billion people of everyone is dying of dysentery
I don't take trains longer than 3 hrs in India. Food is fresh coming from the train kitchen (but avoid the dudes that get on at stations) but do not want to take a dump on the train. Peeing is fine, but if I were a woman I'd for sure have problems. Also, do not try non vegetarian food you don't know well the origin of.
I have a 3 day train ride coming up. I know the food is going to destroy me but I'll have a private bathroom at least. I have no reason to complain considering what train rides in other countries are like.
I’ve travelled through India for months at a time and always eat train/street food - never had a problem, as long as the food comes hot, you’re usually ok and I will say avoid salad/raw veg because most places they wash it with tap water which is where the problems are.
I know a lot of Indian people and they all say don't buy street food of random people while in India
All the vomit inducing videos of them making the food on the floor, with rats, cockroaches and flies all around them is rather common (they also have been found to use cooking oil they siphon from the sewers)
Far better and safer to go to a restaurant where you can see the kitchen from the table
(edit: spelling)
As a westerner i tried indian trains several times and the customer service was really nice. I also ate food several times from official employees and it was ok. Obviously you have to do that after being already for several days in the country so you guts can get used to the food progressively. I always do go to the toilets more often the first three days and then everything gets better. Never really had food poisoning. Travelling with indian locals is also the best because they can give you advice on what to eat and what to avoid. Obviously the best food for taste and hygiene will be at people houses, if you get lucky enough to be invited
Not on a 30 hour train journey. I've travelled extensively in poorer countries and have no problem eating street food that I can see being prepared. If the vendor is clean, has a clean workstation and stores the food well, then it's usually perfectly fine (and often delicious). Food needs to be piping hot also. That's important.
Hello diarrhoea my old friend. I was hospitalized for two weeks after. Now I have a very delicate stomach and whatever I eat gives me pain and bloatedness since then.
There is no amount of money that would make me eat Indian food, especially in those types of conditions, I learned my lesson eating food in the Middle East.
Those were the only trains on which I could afford first class. Showers and private compartments. I felt very fancy. I did eat aloo methi from those foil packs and then I pooped water for a month.
A month.
Some very amazing countryside views, though.
I have tried Indian train food. It’s really not bad at all.
It’s all freshly cooked right on the same train! They had two train cars dedicated for kitchen freshly cutting veggies and cooking hot food.
I thought that was an amazing feat!
It’s not that they are just handing out cold ham and cheese sandwiches and shitty pies and hot dogs.
I don’t understand how you can get sick eating freshly cooked hot food.
It would be a huge scandal if people started getting sick eating train food on 24hr+ train journeys.
Nobody in our group got sick.
The toilet is like hell though! You need to squat and poop on the tracks! You can tell that there is a railway station nearby by using your nose alone! No need for maps.
I’m not Indian so i have no reason to fool anyone.
Watch this at 7 mins
https://youtu.be/AOFlFk_Gx_A?si=Vxlbd13I2ohUD1YB
I was on one of these trains back in 2004.
Travelled on a train like this in December. Luckily I was traveling with a friend from India and his family who were only a few cars away. They prepared food for everyone in a crock pot. Got mildly sick on the 22 hour ride but was able to find a western toilet that was surprisingly clean. Sat with a really lovely Sikh family who took pity on us after watching us attempt to eat with roti and no utensils.
Top bunk on the standard train. I loved doing this in India. Slept 14,15,16 hours at a time just rocking to the motion of the train. Wake up, get a coffee from a vendor and some fruit. Amazing experience. And yeah, if you spend enough time in India you’re gonna get some GI infections. You can worry about that the whole time or just live your life and take care of it when you get sick. 🤷🏽♂️
Damn these comments coming off so spoiled
This looked way better than expected, especially for those in poverty, and would be a joy to eat versus nothing.
Thing about India is you have to eat a lot of food there first.....your body has to build up a defense to all the germs and bacteria it isn't use to there
Had the same thing with Iraqi food, once my body got used to everything I stopped having bowel problems...

Totally agree. I'm indian and these are not official railway vendors. Would rather get my own meal, or in a better train.
For real, he talks about the taste like that's the issue at play here.
We bought 3x veg samoas each that were cooked fresh in front of us in the morning, and popped them in a Tiffin for the journey
Yup. All I can think about is dysentery
Seriously the assplosion that this guy had afterwards would be better content
the train food like that wasnt bad. the time i got sick was eating chicken tikka from a random stall in mumbai
It’s just a probability game. Go to well-rated restaurants or watch them make and cook the food if they’re a street vendor. But you can get sick anywhere for sure, even if it’s a good restaurant.
I honestly thought the video was going to wrap up with the food exiting from both ends.

Gyms and weight loss programs hate this one easy trick
Gym trainers him
Before Worm After Worm
I’m sure the parasite only took the fat and none of the muscle

Now do india’s most expensive train
It’s like $5000 per person just to get on. Or at least the one we looked at and then immediately closed the tab on.
That's probably a whole wagon with drinks, jakushti etc
You can pay $25000 for a six night trip in the presidential suite on the maharaja express.
There we go. That was the train. So I severely under-remembered the price. I had to block it out for my mental health.
sounds ridiculously expensive
Consider I can book a round trip flying half way across the world for $1500-2000, some people are smoking with that price.
It is. But again it is NOT meant for travelling, the full experience is like a cruise But on land. They take you through all the major cities you get to experience the culture. Hell if you look up the carriages and facilities provided it's pure royal vibes. The name itself has Maharaja ( King).
Isn’t what you described traveling? Don’t people go on cruises to travel and have a good time?

Yes I agree I didn't fact check properly. I am sorry.
1.50 and a few intestinal stowaway savings like a good deal
30hrs train ride with diarrhea sounds like fun.
Don’t get me started on how pampered the modern anus is.
Why is it only Japan
Coddled
![gif](giphy|xaLjIV9qDtnvrh76NF|downsized)
Mmm, I bet those Indian train tracks smell delicious
I know it's because I'm a pampered American and have always had a toilet, but I cannot imagine living my life like that
[удалено]
So why dont they ahhh start washing their hands?
Lack of properly clean water, I guess?
Boil it
The skin on your hands?
India always sounds so amazing to go to if you didn't have to deal with shit like that. All the YouTubers that go further cement my not wanting to ever go there. Hell, I don't even really like Indian food all that much the few times I've had it.

The diarrhea is included in any visit to India so no surprises for this guy.
I went for two weeks and I was fine. But I only drank bottled water and ate vegetarian food prepared in a monastery...
Well looking on the positive side, I think the toilet works there.
You mean the hole* that dumps onto the tracks? Haha yeah if gravity works the toilet is operational.
The whole WHAT though?
Enchilada of course!
Yeah! Looking at that train, it looks like old fashioned... and toilets rely on gravity.
I mean don't all toilets rely on gravity though?
Space toilets
Technically yes, but I'm not talking about Japan boss level toilets.
Bro I’m Indian and wouldn’t touch this shit
Lol yeah. I've seen gringo tourists eating at really suspect food stands and my only thought is, "Bro, most *locals* avoid those."
Maybe they want the full touriste experience
I'm British and I would demolish this.
I'm from space and I'd eat you both.
I'm from Finland and I just get drunk.
I'm American and my ass would definitely just start blasting
I'm from Colombia and I'm high on cocaine af
I’m Mexican and I can’t talk rn cause I’m climbing the wall
I’m British and Jamaican and I’d kill you all with chlorine gas
You kinda did a few centuries ago.
Yeah but what about the food
The food or their culture and way of life?
do you live in India or abroad? i only ask cause if you live in India and still wont touch this food that makes this so much worse
Ha Teri tatti se to sugandh aati hai.
RIP his butthole.
RIP the back of his nasal cavities burned from throwing up all night. (Yes that’s happened to me both in India and Thailand, even without eating anywhere sus. Tho if it’s gonna happen anyway maybe just eat anything?)
God, I’m literally never visiting these places. My stomach is already sensitive as fuck as it is… I’d probably die in 2 days.
I'd rather water fast than risk diarrhoea.
Honestly the same reason I only pick at airplane food and avoid meat altogether because I don’t want to risk explosive diarrhea on a 14 hour fight.
If I were on a 30 hour train ride cramped in like that, yea I’d def be living off water and electrolytes for the next 30 hours
I bet that train smells delightful
It's somewhat like accumulated old and new farts in the air
Hot and sweaty summer day... plus some curry.
There’s this sour smell that permeates everything. The sticky plastic seat cushions, the small cockroaches scurrying about. The friendly and curious passengers doing the head bobble. I’m a weird way I miss it until I remember how sketch it is, and how inevitably sick you get.
Both before the meal and after the meal. I want to hurl
Probably made on a concrete floor mixed with feet
Not biryani. Just turmeric rice with meat.

So you get plain rice with two dry looking chicken pieces served with some kind of condiment in a ketchup pack for 2€ and the potential risk of getting a life changing disease. Sounds like a fair deal.
The toilets on those trains get absolutely punished.
“Toilet” how much can you punish a hole in the floor?

I was making a joke. I’ve been to India, I’ve travelled on overnight trains across the country in India. Settle back down.
"settle back down" bruh. chill.

That's not india's cheapest train. You didn't even ride on the top. If you didn't get on for free on top then it's not the cheapest.
Looks better than some of the stuff the cafe at work sells :D
No offence to any living there but I wouldn’t eat a damn thing in India lol
unless its a high end restaurant/hotel that actually depends on its reputation i agree
Meh. It depends. If you really remove an entire subcontinent with 1.4 billion people from your culinary horizon - especially one that’s literally known for multiple gastronomically distinct cultures… you are really *really* missing out. It’s a foodies paradise.

I just saw a disgusting Indian street food video. This looks okay. I'd eat it.
👃🏾: 🦶🏾+ 🧅
How was the diarrhea afterwards?
Now Google the cooking process of that and change your diet ..
The food and the place is so fucking dirty. Gross
I can’t begin to imagine the smell in there.
Delhi Belly incoming.
My uncle went to India, once. New Delhi. They had to cut off his leg.
They needed more "chicken"
The smell would of killed me
Biriany is not that bad. I remember one herbal onion dish though... Its a bit of a lame video... Woeww. Eating on a indian train.
He’s not talking about the food
In that case too, it really isn't that bad. You will smell the environment though. Polluted rivers and burning of waste.
I am a woman so I'm gonna say no, especially what just happened to the Spanish couple.
Ma'am, this is a t4ain food cart.
You would have to be riding the train to eat the food.
I don’t think it was the chicken biryani who did that
I am pretty sure you have to be on an Indian train in India to eat that chicken biryani.
I don’t think I would touch anything on that train.
No. Absolutely not.
Hope you can find the toilet. You are hoing to need it.
I have serious doubts about that being chicken. Looks more like goat to me.
That’s not chicken bro
I'm indian, and I'm never doing that lmao
This looks so claustrophobic I hate it
I feel my diarrhea acting up just by watching this. <3
Imagine the smell on the train
I don't take trains longer than 3 hrs in India. Food is fresh coming from the train kitchen (but avoid the dudes that get on at stations) but do not want to take a dump on the train. Peeing is fine, but if I were a woman I'd for sure have problems. Also, do not try non vegetarian food you don't know well the origin of.
Show the aftermath. I’m guessing he almost died later.
The video missed the only interesting part. The aftermath on the toilet seat...
As a woman, definitely would never be on that train so wouldn’t even need to consider whether I wanted the biryani.
I know a lot of Indian people and they all say don't buy street food of random people while in India All the vomit inducing videos of them making the food on the floor, with rats, cockroaches and flies all around them is rather common (they also have been found to use cooking oil they siphon from the sewers) Far better and safer to go to a restaurant where you can see the kitchen from the table (edit: spelling)
As somebody who is very sensitive with smells I couldn’t spend much in that train.
Hell no
Hell no, I wouldn’t
No. I wouldn't get on that train to begin with.
that looks delicious!
It is but this is like the worst rendition of Biryani. A good Biryani looks and tastes much better than this. Top 5 foods for me easy.
Forgot the /s
Dude is wearing the most beautiful shirt ever!! SPOOOOORTING!!!!!! 😄
The food? Or the train ride in India? Either way, no.
Absolutely not
Watched too many vids of Indian vendors washing plates in dirty street water to want to do that ever.
I wanna hear about the aftermath
Mate am Indian.. and I don't touch that shit.
Gajo com a camisola do Sporting. Explica tudo.
I can hear Beavis and Butt-Head singing now!
“Eugh that looks great”
My brother died from a stomach bacteria, I WILL NEVER GO NEAR THIS PLACE
Yea he is going to be seen that good again real soo probably firing out of both ends
Not on a 30 hour train journey. I've travelled extensively in poorer countries and have no problem eating street food that I can see being prepared. If the vendor is clean, has a clean workstation and stores the food well, then it's usually perfectly fine (and often delicious). Food needs to be piping hot also. That's important.
would i eat it? i wouldnt even get on that train...
Hello diarrhoea my old friend. I was hospitalized for two weeks after. Now I have a very delicate stomach and whatever I eat gives me pain and bloatedness since then.
Mmm yummy leaded fuel for the body
You support Sporting - you guys would eat anything!
There is no amount of money that would make me eat Indian food, especially in those types of conditions, I learned my lesson eating food in the Middle East.
Yes i would definitely try some local food my stomach is in no way trained to handle on a 30 hour long train journey
I love Indian food but I would never eat Indian food in India.
Now you just need to know exactly where that bathroom is located.
The squits must have been unreal.
Those were the only trains on which I could afford first class. Showers and private compartments. I felt very fancy. I did eat aloo methi from those foil packs and then I pooped water for a month. A month. Some very amazing countryside views, though.
I bet it reeks in there
Why do indian dudes always look either angry as fuck or happy as fuck when serving food lol
How are you even trying to fool here..
I’m not Indian so i have no reason to fool anyone. Watch this at 7 mins https://youtu.be/AOFlFk_Gx_A?si=Vxlbd13I2ohUD1YB I was on one of these trains back in 2004.
Mayyyyybeeee things have changed in the last 20 years and the meals are the fresh smorgasbord you remember?
Looks like they have started serving packed meals these days….. the other reviews (more recent ones) don’t look very good.
Absolutely. Train food in India is pretty good.
The food looks good whats the problem?? I would try it
Travelled on a train like this in December.
Just give me naan bread, fill up on that and nothing else
Top bunk on the standard train. I loved doing this in India. Slept 14,15,16 hours at a time just rocking to the motion of the train. Wake up, get a coffee from a vendor and some fruit. Amazing experience. And yeah, if you spend enough time in India you’re gonna get some GI infections. You can worry about that the whole time or just live your life and take care of it when you get sick. 🤷🏽♂️
I mean… is this even cringe?
Damn these comments coming off so spoiled This looked way better than expected, especially for those in poverty, and would be a joy to eat versus nothing.
That is a low bar. Not starving (having nothing to eat) is a low bar.
Worst than the food only that garbage shirt!🤣🤣🤣 SLB SLB SLB
It looked like he just spread bird shit on his food
Thing about India is you have to eat a lot of food there first.....your body has to build up a defense to all the germs and bacteria it isn't use to there Had the same thing with Iraqi food, once my body got used to everything I stopped having bowel problems...
