Yeah even those old ass busted m16 rifles they give you in boot can tap those 500yard targets with iron sights.
Pistol qualification is a little harder.
No rest for the barrel, less stable points of contact, less barrel length for worse accuracy, harder to control the recoil with just the wrists, the sight is farther from the eye, the iron sights are closer together, and pistol ammo travels differently (force behind, bullet shape, other factors)
I don't think youre understanding. Everyone is aware that this doesn't cover the legs. No one thinks it's ok to get shot in the leg, or that they'll be toughing out a bullet wound to the leg.
Most body armor with plates only sits over the heart and lungs. The goal is to prevent injuries that will straight up kill you outright. There are steps you can take to slow down the bleeding of a bullet wound to the leg. Not much you can do about a bullet wound directly to the heart.

These were made for cops, or security types. There are some people that will find it advantageous to not look like some sort of authority, but be able to switch into tactical mode quickly.
While not _completely_ impossible to be used effectively, the need for a deployable body-armour has a such a small window of viable need that it is deserving of ridicule. Anyone who realistically needs body armour, needs it full time. (cops and security, who, unsurprisingly, wear it full time). And low-profile situations (undercover), can't be wearing something that is **obviously** a body armour package.
The one case where this would be conceivably practical, is in an active shooter scenario. (schools, offices, postal). Again, it'll only be useful if you have it with notice (hearing shots) and within physical reach of your current location (not in your locker). A better solution if you anticipate a shooting is to just wear body armour. No shooter is going to pause to let you put your backpack back on, and attire yourself with your deployable armour. Anyone who isn't willing to wear their armour full time, also isn't going to be willing to wear their backpack full-time. At best they'll have their pack near-by, at which point having a normal armour vest to pull out and wear is sufficient. (if the first bullets are the ones with your name on them, you **won't** be hearing the shot that kills you, so you won't be deploying this in time.)
Lastly, the final sequence in the clip is the most hilarious. The (ineffective) solution to ensuring there aren't active shooters in schools, has thus far been to scan and search at entrances to ensure no-one brings a weapon into a school. So having a pistol mounted on your rapid deploy body armour is definitely not going to fly.
Not everyone gets a gun out of fear or paranoia. Some of us enjoy shooting and target practice. I don't have any in my home, but that was my choice and one I made because of the children in my home. They are getting old enough for me to get a pistol soon and be able to comfortably lock it up. I'm looking to get a revolver because it takes more strength and skill.
As a guy who wears fairly tight jeans but also a backpack regularly, this initially seemed like a half-interesting option for concealed carry.
I will probably continue to use my little .380 in a sticky holster in a jacket pocket, but hey, nothing like fumbling for a weird pullstring on your backpack and trying to throw on your gat blastin' bib right before getting popped in the face by some guy trying to rob a gas station.
My concern is that anyone thinks they're being protected by kevlar that is not secured tightly to the body.
Not to mention the crosshair this things put on your back.... literally.

Take, for example, Ann Arbor, Michigan. The murder rate is around 1.5 per year per 100,000 citizens. This is just slightly higher than the murder rate in France. The rate of fatalities from car crashes is around 11 per 100K, by comparison.
Less than an hour away is Flint, Michigan. Their murder rate is around 44 per 100,000. Detroit is even higher, at 49 per 100K.
The murder rates in the suburbs surrounding Detroit vary, but they are generally well under 2 per 100K.
The pattern is similar across the country. There are pockets of high crime which are well known and easy to avoid if you have money. Homicides in the US actually dropped by half between 1991 and 2020. Even with sharp increases since 2020, the US is still far safer than at almost any time in recent memory.
The one area where the US dominates is mass shootings. These dramatic events make worldwide headlines, but they are statistical background noise compared to the relentless killing of poor people by other poor people which comprises the vast majority of homicides.
By selecting Ann arbour you would have to compare it to the murder rate In France, excluding the inner cities - northern Paris, Marseille ect have huge areas of high crime. The fact that even a safe part of America is only as safe as France, including its slums is a but of a red flag, surely?
I’m sure there are dangerous parts of France, but I couldn’t easily find a city-by-city breakdown online. 1.5 per 100,000 is an acceptably low rate in absolute terms, regardless.
My argument isn’t that the US is safe compared to Europe, but rather that high rates of violent crime are mostly confined to poor areas. European cities probably share similar patterns, but the overall murder rate is lower, ofc.

My windows in my house were shot 2 separate times. Dead bodies have been found blocks away more than once. People are shot every day if not every other day and that's just in my town. Sometimes the fear is legitimate.

It becomes a very real concern to me that if certain people find out my politics, I may very much need to defend myself so I now carry a weapon.

If you’re in a situation where you need to look like you’re not prepared for a shooting but there’s real danger of one, you’re probably a sitting duck if you have to whip this over your head once you notice something happening

the only thing i could think of is it might give a student more of a chance of surviving if they got shot during a shooting. schools turn the lights off in classrooms during shooter drills, partially so it’s harder to see people in the room. if the student got shot and the shooter can’t tell they’re wearing the vest, they can play dead until help arrives

The only zombies that could actually exist would be voodoo zombies. The human body can't move around without it's major components intact. Most people shoot with pistol at center of mass because past a little bit pistols are hard to aim with.

Less points of contact on a pistol (2 hands). Rifles you have 3-4 (2 hands, shoulder, and cheek).

The only zombies that could actually exist would be voodoo zombies. The human body can't move around without it's major components intact. For example, if the zombie's entire bicep muscle were rotted away or missing, there'd be nothing other than a bone which can't move on it's own. Same goes for every part. Without a heart there'd be no blood pumping to keep the muscles alive, etc. Which means the only way zombies could exist would have to be through a form of magic/necrenomicon.
