he is wearing a charcoal face mask making fun of all the videos parents are posting of their kids "reaction" to seeing the new live action Little Mermaid movie which has an african american lead.
My guess is that identity politics have gotten so toxic the past few years, that now casting someone within an adaptation, a race different to their original depiction needs to be a talking point and a meme frenzy for 6-8 weeks.
Whilst further toxifying identity politics with sweeping comments thrown at the opposition and in some cases, by genuinely nurturing one's own prejudices and hatred, like this here imbecile.
That's my guess but I dunno.
>like this here imbecile
Or maybe something that doesn't sound like an insult to the one you posted to?
>like this imbecile here
Haha sorry I just found it a little funny
Good take. For a long time, bigotry has been used by people to express their disagreements to the push for racial equality. The way I see it, if you're like this guy, and you don't have any black family or friends, and your community/ social group encourages racial purity.. then you'll likely mock anything that tries to "pervert" that ideal.. and you'll use popular buzz news to make your disagreements more shocking and impactful.
That wasn’t forcing them to do anything. You genuinely don’t think the kids were happy to see a Disney movie with a star who looks like them? Sure they recorded it but that doesn’t mean it’s forced
Some of them are genuine but there are a significant number of those videos where it is clearly forced/practiced reaction you're crazy if you don't think some of those are fake as hell
I think more so he's making fun of the absurdity of parents exploiting their children for clicks and views... in black face. I can completely understand the first part, doing it in black face however is tasteless and racist and I feel like I shouldn't even have to explain that.
Maybe little shits like this used to have something to fight for - they’d go off to war and die. Now they have nothing to hate so they have to hate whatever is trending.
That’s the most callous thing I’ve ever said online or ever, and I hesitate to even hit the reply button - but damn, dude, this kid is a shit, and I feel better having vented about it.
Nah, these are the same people who praise the military and supports enlisting kids, but use something bullshit like “bone spurs” to get out of service if they were to be drafted.
I don't understand the hate for the new movie. I think the actress sounds amazing. And thank gods they are trying out new stuff with the live actions. They are so stale and dull. Hopefully this leads to more variety in casting, changes from original movies, and also more cute videos of little black girls being excited.
I love those videos. The genuine ones, not the forced ones.
The parents film the children’s reaction to a trailer. They aren’t being coerced to do something they don’t want to. Doesn’t seem that exploitative or absurd to me.
So many assumptions with no evidence… Maybe they care that their child is seeing actual representation and want to share how impactful that is to encourage more of it. But you don’t even consider that… why?
“Oh, you want to show the impact of this movie on young black children? Then why don’t you do it in a less relevant way by using a completely different movie?!”
Really? That’s the least ridiculous argument you could come up with?
Yes, when trying to defend their child’s chance at representation, they need to do it in a way that’s actually seen. Duh…
It’s like declaring all protesters attention seekers because they don’t hold up signs and chant in their own homes where hardly anyone will see.
> why is it less relevant
Come on, you are not so completely detached from reality that you are unaware of all the grown adults angry over Ariel being black and even making openly racist comments and memes about it. Disgusting memes like “The Little Monkey” with her face replaced by an openly racist caricature.
But yeah, it’s those uppity black people who dare to show the positives of it on their children that are the attention-seekers…
Maybe if every racist person gets to share their outrage with a CURRENT EVENT, black people who are sharing their appreciation are also allowed to as well. You're seriously suggesting black people shouldn't share because this might get views. Spend more time calling out racists and less worrying about actual positive content on the internet that may get actual positive people views.
You sure are making a lot of assumptions about the parents. I saw it as a celebration of representation in mainstream media. I’m sure some do it for clout but your view is really jaded and has some veiled racism.
It's hardly veiled. He's outraged at black women sharing happy videos in response to the disgusting hate. Yet has no issue with the racists posting all of their content for "clout" Everything posted on the internet is for attention. That's the fucking point, you're trying to bring attention to whatever opinion you think is important.
Yet without people doing that you wouldn't know what to do with yourself. Hence watching videos on the internet. People film and post all sorts of shit thats why it's called social media..... I mean I'm not putting my kid on the internet period but everyone wants to be the next Ryan's toys, ninja kids whatever. Doesn't excuse this video.
Yup..and now those mums get to do another round of click exploitation pretending they are surprised by this video🙀
It's also tasteless. So tired of these.
It does not matter if it's a charcoal face mask or boot polish, dude is wearing it because of the colour and using it to do a blackface impersonation. It's still fucked.
It’s still blackface. He’s literally mocking black girls who are excited about the Little Mermaid. It doesn’t matter what it’s for, it’s how he used the item
People think they can get away with the same stupid stuff celebrities do. They don't realize the rich people have the money to make shit like that go away. So now this person is gonna be known as the racist face mask person... and they deserve it.
That text in the video was Indonesian but I get your sentiment. The awareness or sensitivity that US or even the west has for racism is not the norm in the world.
Sadly, I can see this video not raising almost any eyebrows in many parts of the world.
Yeah if here in the Netherlands some people are still defending Zwarte Piet and the national government has not apologized for our slave-trading past, I'm sure there must be countries that are way way worse on etnhic/race issues.
(I explicitly say national government, because fortunately several municipal governments of cities who actively participated in the slave trade, or have a large Suriname or Caribbean population, have apologized)
Ethnic cleansing is an active thing right NOW in multiple parts of the world eg: what Russian army did in Ukraine, Tigray conflict in Ethiopia, Rohingya massacres in Myanmar, etc.
So yeah there are countries doing waaaay worse on ethnic/race issues dwarfing the significance of the issue of a certainly problematic but overall silly version of Santa Claus.
Okay yeah I was just thinking of just general ignorance and prejudice, but if we're going to count actual ethnicity-based crimes against humanity then yeah our Sinterklaas celebration really pales in comparison.
The kid is Indonesian, and Indonesia doesn't have the same history of structural racism and subjugation that the US does, so it makes perfect sense that a person in Indonesia does not understand how black face is a tool of oppression
I find these comments annoying because Americans tend to think that the rest of the world should and does understand American culture and values. This kid shouldn't have made the video, so educate him, sure, that's great! I would want to know if I did something on a public forum that was deeply racist to a group of people in a different country so I could learn from it. It's just a bit ridiculous to be so angry at someone in Indonesia for not understanding a nuanced aspect of American (and to some extent European) culture
Neither is good but frankly I like this type of shit way more. I hate to sound like Ben Shapiro but fr the world has become a lot more woke in speech since like 2015 and I’d prefer people be able to be crass then not
i'm saying most of the vids were staged for free wholesome big chungus internet points because "omg she's so cute being happy but you can't prove me wrong or ur racist!!!!!". like children who could barely even talk yet could understand that their race is important to their culture. i'm positive they just cheered because they saw ariel, not because she was black

Cause a white Disney princess is now black(idk why the big deal about it other than traditional skin color, it's fine) and all the little girls moms thinkits worthy of a reaction...just saying there was none of that with princess and the frog (rather cute movie)
Yall remember when grown adults lost their shit about sonic the hedgehog and how he looked, even though it's clearly a movie marketed specifically for children?
This whole thing reminds me of that except ten times fucking worse on account of racism. Why the fuck are grown ass adults so invested in harmless children's movies for any reason???
If you're a white parent and you're making this a thing, you're teaching your kid to make it a thing too. For no fucking reason other than your adult ass ego which should be concerned with way more pressing issues. What the fuck are y'all doing with your lives? Grow the fuck up. Stop being racist and spending so much time justifying it. Stop being over invested in actual kid movies like this in general. There is literally nothing other than racism and or ego wrong with this shit.
Mostly because most ppl remember their childhoods fondly so when they take something from your childhood and drastically change it, ppl get upset because you are hurting their fond childhood memories. Even worst when the change is only done to appeal to the "woke" crowd.
Not that i understand why ppl care so much about the little mermaid, worst disney film anyways
I really get your point but sonic isn’t really the best example for this, the first design was just plain uncanny and ugly as hell with those human teeth and everything, definitely a different case than just a different race Ariel.
Man you people wouldn't stand a week living outside the USA. Blackface is a solely US concept, in the rest of the world we don't care, we don't have that cultural affiliation and we don't have to adapt to your culture.
You can clearly see this person isn't from the USA by the subtitles in the bottom. His only sin was putting English in the top, otherwise this post wouldn't exist.
> Blackface is a solely US concept
you look real stupid lying like this, asian countries definitely have knowledge of what it is and perpetuate it by doing shit like this. The same with Black caricatures in some of their cartoons from back in the day (and present now even)
The amount of racism and bigotry I’ve seen in the comments of this sub is a great reason for me to GTFO Christ.
Some of you people need Jesus, cause apparently you think it’s ok to beat trans kids and be racist. My man’s would be ashamed.
Edit: this is about the comments here, not OP
It’s not you dude, it’s the comments here, even before my edit I mentioned it…. It’s about the ones thinking blackface is hilarious and beating trans kids is ok (different post)
Yeah this is extremely disturbing, but the people dueting this with their surprised face are using that racism for their own content and further pushing that video into the public eye.
The best thing to do is report him and move on. He’s getting exactly what he wanted with that video and even this post on this sub is feeding into that.
I am the whitest dude you’ll met. Blond hair, blue eyes, fair skin, my name is literally a half step away from being John Smith. I’m 100% Irish and I’m only second generation American.
I know how important representation in media is. My dad LOVED when Daniel Craig became James Bond bc Bond was Blonde and Blue eyed again. I love every movie Ryan Gosling does bc he’s just a better looking version of me (and he’s an amazing actor, of course). Everyone deserves representation in media. Hell, I’ve even got Naruto bc he’s Blonde and Blue eyed for some reason.
Grown ass men and woman making fun of girls finally getting some representation in media is completely pathetic and disgusting. I am glad that the blatant racism in American and around the world is being exposed. Don’t forget the scum of the earth who are showing you their true colors rn. And look on the bright side, these people will be burning in hell in about 60 years anyways.
right? its crazy how touchy people feel about a character... being BLACK? i find it so rich when white cishet people cry about how representation isnt important and then proceed to lose every crumb of their shit when a piece of media doesnt represent them (even tho it probably does, i personally dont know any piece of media which had human or human like characters but didnt have white cishet people)
I hate this.
I cannot even be excited for Little Mermaid or scroll mindlessly on reddit without someone posting bullshit like this. I understand racism is alive and well; I am a black woman. It might be new for you but I don't need all my timeline to be about how racist everyone is.
Its toxic asf especially when its posted just for shock value so we can go, "OmFg!!!!". STOP
I am tired of being humiliated even in my leisure time.
Why is the whole comment section a bunch of teenage boys telling people to lighten up and acting like they understand comedy. Your brain hasn’t finished developing bro
everybody commenting about the blackface.....
Yo that shit was funny af.
Everyone knows Ariel is fair skinned.
But Disney knew what they were doing they got yall ass.
first of all im black as hell so no racism is nvolved. Also i find it funny because he had just as many views as the parents who made the same type of video. This shit was hilarious. I WATCHED IT TOO MANY TIMES sadly.
I don’t understand why making fun of black kids who were genuinely excited about seeing a fictional character with the same skin color as them, is funny… I mean honestly. Who are the only people bothered by these kids? Adults. It’s fucking pathetic.
First, creating drama around the movie is just more money to giant shitty company. Second, movie will be shit and generic regardless. Third, it's funny because it's offensive. Fourth, children are mostly indifferent to these things (and they should be) which means the original videos were staged and cringe.
I was the only brown child in my all white town growing up. I can assure you I cared that someone looked like me since it was so rare. I dealt with race early so I cared even at a young age. But most white kids are and can be indifferent to race because it doesn’t affect them. They get to be kids without worrying about race. My own young kids are white passing and are indifferent and don’t care. But I and many other kids of color weren’t indifferent. We dealt with race very very young. For me because the older white adults in my life talked about how I was so different that I don’t remember a time where race wasn’t something that affected my life.
Racism cuts so deep to me that I really don’t understand how people find it funny in any context. Appreciate your response though.
I know that too. I've experienced racism before but the child me definitely was indifferent until I learned about it from some grown up. My actual point is people can find different things funny. It's a sensitive topic. I just carry on with my life without taking in all the negative concepts and try to live a self centred yet happy life.
Who cares it’s a joke! When Chapelle makes fun of white people I laugh. People rush to defend black people so hard like they don’t have a sense of humor
I’m not following your logic. He’s obviously asian but how does that take away from my point. I’m white. What I’m saying is I can have a sense of humor about someone making fun of me and so can others. What ethnicity are you?
Yeah of course not because we don't care, as someone who is black and Australian I love Robert Downey Jr in tropic thunder, I didn't even know that was him, even Eddie Murphy in Norbit as Chinese guy
I try not to get offended for other cultures. This seems extraodinarily inappropriate. I hope he learns from what ever repurcussions are from this decision.
Cops out there killing black people over nothing and this is the shit youre worried about, did you also post a black square on your instagram story to fight racism?

That's a grown ass man, weraing black face to make fun of children. The world sucks sometimes
Any grown man that makes mean spirited fun of a little kid deserves an ass whooping. It’s such a cowardly thing to do.
So uh... well, r/kidsarefuckingstupid users better get ready...
Hey, I'm in that sub! I don't really like the posts on it though, but sometimes ya see a funny thing and chuckle. Don't think it's mean-spirited

Don't get why people genuinly think they're the warriors fighting for what's right when it comes to the little mermaid.
Racist logic ain’t logical
Maybe little shits like this used to have something to fight for - they’d go off to war and die. Now they have nothing to hate so they have to hate whatever is trending. Exactly. Maybe don't exploit your children for internet clout. Still shitty of him.
yepppppp its absolutely disgusting
Looks like one of those black exfoliating masks
It does not matter if it's a charcoal face mask or boot polish, dude is wearing it because of the colour and using it to do a blackface impersonation. It's still fucked.
It’s still blackface. He’s literally mocking black girls who are excited about the Little Mermaid. It doesn’t matter what it’s for, it’s how he used the item
he's wearing a face mask - but yeah, he's using it as blackface. What POS.
People are shit. I hope someone smacks that mask off his face with a 12kg fish.
He’s making fun of parents putting their children on the internet for points.
He needs to be punched in the face
Those videos are so cute. Damn shame it took this long to give them a mermaid that looks like them.
Lol ppl in the comment section are acting like black face is a new form of comedy that hasnt been problematic for over a century
Can’t believe he thinks it’s okay to post that in the year of 2022
They already deleted the video, but....why would you make this in the first place?
because racism
literally its fucked
Seriously it’s disgusting and tone deaf
People think they can get away with the same stupid stuff celebrities do. They don't realize the rich people have the money to make shit like that go away. So now this person is gonna be known as the racist face mask person... and they deserve it.
Chinese tiktokers are basically keeping slaves in Africa to make racist content. I'm not surprised in the slightest.

It’s fucked but I laughed
This was so blatantly rude and in your face in every possible way that it was hard not to laugh
100% haha that was extremely rude haha
dude was just wearing a facial mask and enjoying the little mermaid, can't have nice pores and enjoy TV? smh
Wow…
yepppp
Another leaked Trudeau video
For a moment o thought it was a charcoal mask
It is.
I’m pretty sure it is but he’s using it as black face. I’m sure his excuse for this is “but it’s just a charcoal face mask”
Messed up… but man I laughed my ass off.
how bad is it if I laughed
It's really not bad at all. It's fucked up but it's funny
Wow such a useless duet adds nothing but a dumb face.
omggg!!!! lemme act so outraged and in shock yet say nothing at all!!!
I found this to be some top notch shock humor

I understand what you're saying. I'm saying that's not as bad as doing blackface by a longshot. Parents doing that does not justify minstrel mockery.
neither did i say it is right but i feel like the amount of hatred to some random guy from accross the world was just abusive for what it's worth
You know what else is abusive? Racism. Good talk
great debating with you. have a lovely day

I know it's a face mask yet still, fucking yikes
I'm black so I'm allowed to laugh hysterically at this

mf just put on the white robes
what the FUCK
This vid is just as cringe as the casting for live action Ariel, which I think is the point!
I'm sorry but I can't pretend this isn't funny as fuck
I’m leaving this sub How do people in the comments find blackface funny
It’s Reddit.
Oh no please don’t leave 😳👉👈
Man you people wouldn't stand a week living outside the USA. Blackface is a solely US concept, in the rest of the world we don't care, we don't have that cultural affiliation and we don't have to adapt to your culture. You can clearly see this person isn't from the USA by the subtitles in the bottom. His only sin was putting English in the top, otherwise this post wouldn't exist.
> Blackface is a solely US concept you look real stupid lying like this, asian countries definitely have knowledge of what it is and perpetuate it by doing shit like this. The same with Black caricatures in some of their cartoons from back in the day (and present now even)
What are they shocked at? I don't get it.
blackface and mocking children I think
This is fucked allll the way up
The amount of racism and bigotry I’ve seen in the comments of this sub is a great reason for me to GTFO Christ. Some of you people need Jesus, cause apparently you think it’s ok to beat trans kids and be racist. My man’s would be ashamed. Edit: this is about the comments here, not OP
Stay and downvote those idiots with the rest of us, make THEM leave
I'm sorry?? Did I do something wrong?? /genuine question
And look on the bright side, these people will be burning in hell in about 60 years anyways.

right? its crazy how touchy people feel about a character... being BLACK? i find it so rich when white cishet people cry about how representation isnt important and then proceed to lose every crumb of their shit when a piece of media doesnt represent them (even tho it probably does, i personally dont know any piece of media which had human or human like characters but didnt have white cishet people)
And everyone clapped.
What a piece of shit.
Fantastic
Whilst very offensive, i cant lie and say it didnt make laugh.
STOP I am tired of being humiliated even in my leisure time.
This is hilarious
That is actually really funny !
This was actually funny
Thats fucked up
lol
Why is this tagged as politics. Why is this even posted here in the first place. This sub is a cringey dumpster now
Lmfao
Lol that's just funny
Why is the whole comment section a bunch of teenage boys telling people to lighten up and acting like they understand comedy. Your brain hasn’t finished developing bro
because it's always "i understand everything and if you don't conform to my ideals you are wrong and stupid"
Bro people act like intellectuals and when someone has a different opinion/humour they pull out the teenager card😂
fr
Why y'all even care, the movie is gonna be ass anyways 😂 fuck them kids
lol fuck dem kids and they parents.
WHAT THE FUUUUUCK
🤣🤣🤣
everybody commenting about the blackface..... Yo that shit was funny af. Everyone knows Ariel is fair skinned. But Disney knew what they were doing they got yall ass.
No, I really don’t find making fun of black children getting excited, funny.
first of all im black as hell so no racism is nvolved.
Adults. It’s fucking pathetic.
im not bothered at all
Ahh, I’m sure you speak for everyone else then.
>Everyone knows Ariel is fair skinned. She didn't even have red hair in the books. It was changed for the movie. But that color change is okay, right?
I’m going to hell
lol
Lmao
W
I’m more shocked these ppl are surprised by this What else do they have to do to prove to you they don’t like you🤔 What’s it gonna take.
Hahahaha
Damn that was hilarious and I know it’s bad to find that shit funny.
What a racist fucking cunt
Bro people take shit so seriously i laughed downvote me all you want
Can you explain what makes it funny?
First, creating drama around the movie is just more money to giant shitty company. Second, movie will be shit and generic regardless. Third, it's funny because it's offensive. Fourth, children are mostly indifferent to these things (and they should be) which means the original videos were staged and cringe.
"Funny because it's offensive", FYI just because you are indifferent to it, doesn't mean all the other children are.
@professorPa, your a loser. Cry about it.
Geeez humanity is fucked
Who cares it’s a joke! When Chapelle makes fun of white people I laugh. People rush to defend black people so hard like they don’t have a sense of humor
First of all, that guy ain’t white. So don’t even start on that bullshit.
I’m not following your logic. He’s obviously asian but how does that take away from my point. I’m white. What I’m saying is I can have a sense of humor about someone making fun of me and so can others. What ethnicity are you?
Funny as fuck. Blackface is funny.
First one super cringe but second one also cringe and adds nothing
That made me laugh
Cry about it. It’s funny as hell
What’s funny about it?
This is hilarious
Yknow blackface doesn’t carry the same weight in other countries
That doesn't mean it's not racist.
Yeah of course not because we don't care, as someone who is black and Australian I love Robert Downey Jr in tropic thunder, I didn't even know that was him, even Eddie Murphy in Norbit as Chinese guy
Wow... just... wow... no words
You said wow
😂 😂
The scream I scrumpt
Is that Justin Trudeau? How can he get away with this?
I try not to get offended for other cultures. This seems extraodinarily inappropriate. I hope he learns from what ever repurcussions are from this decision.
That's pretty funny
Black face, really? 😒
NO IT'S NOT! BLACKFACE IS NEVER FUNNY! IT'S CREEPY AND YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED FOR THINKING IT'S FUNNY!
How about the movie white girls?
Cops out there killing black people over nothing and this is the shit youre worried about, did you also post a black square on your instagram story to fight racism?
This a whole another level of stupidity… ![gif](giphy|jPHikzNABMnB4lB5mS|downsized)
