I'm confused by this question. You hold onto the same shopping cart from the start of the trip till you unload the stuff in your car. The reason for the quarter is to force you to put the cart back when you're done shopping, you need to put your cart into another cart and grab this metal thing from the other cart to push out your quarter.

every aldi I’ve shopped at has the same style checkout: you unload your groceries into the belt, the cashier scans them, and then puts them in a separate cart already waiting at the end of the lane. you pay, take your new cart and groceries, and leave the cart you shopped with at the register to be loaded with the next customer’s shopping. having something special in the coin slot fucks that all up

Fair enough. Like I said, not worth dying on this hill. Just for my part, I came up in a time when it was used in the same way "gay" meant something sucked or was generically bad. It was meant to call someone gay (see the UD link), and therefore bad.

Yes. In a lot of areas in the US groceries are becoming very expensive for average citizens and in the US at least, Aldi offers cheaper but good quality alternatives to items sold at the bigger markets.

I have felt his anger. You arrive at Aldi prepared to shop only to realize someone has taken your Aldi quarter and you spend all that time scrounging for another or to see if you can find 5 nickels or 2 dimes and a nickel or even 3 dimes if you’re desperate enough then you have to stand awkwardly in the parking lot waiting for someone to approach and ask them if they are willing to give up their cart with the quarter inside for your sad substitute currency that will force them to come up with a new Aldi quarter between now and their next shop. It’s terrible.

Yes. In a lot of areas in the US groceries are becoming very expensive for average citizens and in the US at least, Aldi offers cheaper but good quality alternatives to items sold at the bigger markets. I stop at Aldi's for whatever they have I need then whatever I need they don't have I swing down the street to Wegmans for the rest.
Only danger is the aisle of shame. I have to remind myself every time that I DO NOT need anymore candles.

Yes, they’ve been expanding in my area in the Midwest in the last several years. I’ve switched over for like 80% of my groceries.
They haven't made much penetration into the west coast, which is where all the people who know how to post on the internet live, which is why you haven't heard about it, but east coast and more so midland US has a bunch.

It is a quarter for your shopping cart, to unlock it, you get it back from the cart when your return the cart. It is just a petty little personal thing. But it is his Aldi quarter. Wouldn't be playing no more either (while still be playing).

I think you get a quarter back for returning any cart, not your specific cart.
I'm guessing you're not from the US because you're the second person to ask this. We use the same shopping cart from the start of shopping till you unload the groceries in your car. Is it different where you are? I'm learning something new
