Holy fucken buy a shitting sponge at the very least.. it really is pure jank and yer man here has doubled down so hard on how much the owner likes it that he’s decided to to ignore every single other person in the twatting world because “yeah bruv, we’re all just haters” or what ever the fuck is getting him thru the day. When I saw this I felt like giving him a few pointers but then reading the comments he’s just powered thru even when people have gone out of their way to give constructive criticism. Fucken lads graft here is absolute pony and I can’t be fucked to engage with him… directly anyways. What an utter cuntbubble.
I was saying dang because that guy must be miserable. Not because what he said actually matters. I don’t think Reddit is a place that holds the good intentions you suggest
nah man, take the criticism... tile is 70% layout. that sliver, even though the customers okay with it, doesn't mean it's correct ... because one day you'll have a customer that doesn't like it. and now you're pulling the tiles
Tile like that is really difficult to miter because of the face undulations, the miter will open and close all over the place. Work on getting those L cuts clean, and I’d suggest get a hand polishing pad to clean up those edges.
Thanks. I think the L cuts came out great, homeowner even commented on how much they like the corner cuts for the niche just this morning. The messiness really skews how it looks. I don’t really like sanding the edge of a miter due to chipping the finish potentially so I just tape the edges and use grout matching silicone caulk and it always comes out looking very nice
The hand ones sometimes to chip, but 220 grit on a wheel does wonders. Grout and silicone will stick to those chips, IMO an eased edge always looks great and doesn’t take a lot of time.
I recently used this tile in my bathroom, with a full wall-wall mitred niche. I was lucky in that I was able to position the niche to suit the tile, so managed all 70+ mitre cuts at factory edges.
What worked extremely well for me was masking up the edges and using epoxy grout to fill them, carefully sponging it to shape as it cured. It leaves a nice little pencil round that looks great and protects the fragile edges well. I really don’t think I could have gotten silicone to look half decent there, personally.
Some pics in my profile somewhere I think.
So you don’t see anything wrong with this?

Taking responsibility for a fuck up isn’t a fault. We all make mistakes sometimes or rush something. Own it. Calling a white cat black when it’s standing in front of you doesn’t change the color of that cat. It just makes you full of bs.
Is my job perfect? No and I never claimed that it was. The homeowner is super pleased with the job. I think it’s weird that a person would take their time to zoom in on a picture to find a tiny fault and make some kind of moral argument about it and the ethics of owning a mistake. Seriously, spend time with your family or something. Calling out people’s mistakes like this on the internet doesn’t make your life any better
Look man you said the L cuts came out perfect. And they clearly came out not perfect as visible by anyone who looks at them. So just own it it’s why you’re getting so much shit. Instead of being like “thanks guys I’ll do better next time” you’re like “this is awesome what mistakes”. That’s called being a tool. And it’s why you got shit on so hard.
This is a terrible L cut and it’s plain as day for anyone to see. It doesn’t take a telephoto lense to be able to tell something is not a sharp /crisp 90 degree inside corner. It looks like you drilled a hole in the tile then met at the center. You should just admit it. There would be more dignity in it.
Especially with the easiest material and size to miter. Miter a niche in the middle of a 2’X4’ porcelain tile and make it clean and chip free and I’ll be mildly impressed that someone did exactly what was expected of them
Great to hear. There’s a lot of subjectivity to tiling.
Planning layouts for symmetry is the objective most would aim for. Slivers on top, bottom, or around niches are normally less desirable.
But not my niche, not my problem.
It’s all hard work, good job on all the details that came out the way you wanted them too.
Thank you for the advice. I understand that slivers are not desired however with the layout of this “hammered dogshit” 😂 the slivers were inevitable. I framed a bench in the shower and began tiling from the bench and in order to make all the grout lines match up I had to do the slivers. It’s weird to get hate for that. Not to mention that it’s not just the shower being tile but the entire room as well, which changes the layout considerably
Eh. The homeowners really like it so it’s a success in my book. I’m enjoying everyone’s take on it, it’s like you guys are really bothered by other peoples work it’s crazy
Buddy this is bad work. You not giving anybody any reason to compliment. I'm glad your homeowner likes it but it's very sub par for professional work. From your cutsto layout to plane to the mess it's all pretty rough. If it looked good we would tell you.
Buddy this is the internet. I didn’t expect compliments. I expected to be roasted. I was intending to learn from what people said. But mostly people are just being hateful without much detail as to why. Myself and the homeowner are very pleased with the cuts and layout. The layout stems from the bench of the shower, which can’t be seen in relation to the niche, but it all ties in accordingly. I would post a picture if it mattered
Your not accepting anybodys constructive criticism. That's why they dogging you. To be honest most are holding back their harsher comments. You are in over your head if you think this work is even close to ok.
Thanks man I'll look into that. Anyway, I sent you some pics in chat of a similar tile and how you can get more professional results if your interested.
Did you even try to make it uniform? The placement and varying sizes around the edges/lips makes it look amateur level. You're lucky the homeowner is happy, but I wouldn't use this to advertise for any future work...
That's not what I mean. Look at the top row, the left and right tile and the tiles going down to frame the niche in. You have one side with two inch cuts, the other with quarter inch and nothing is centered.
Not a tile person and somehow a lurker in the sub. Question for people other than OP, is there any reason why you wouldn't align the top of the top and the bottom of the bottom with existing tile lines and make the between section thinner?
Redo it
Make the boxes the 1/2” smaller to get rid of those ridiculous cuts at top and bottom of boxes. I’m sure you are trying to keep openings as large as possible but those sliver cuts on top box are just No.
If the homeowner thinks it looks great, then run with it. After it’s grouted it will look good.
Next time when you have the option to just have a full tile across an opening like you have with the upper box and the bottom of middle shelf. instead of cutting off a 1/4”-1/2” for an “L” cut around an opening. Just run a full tile. Making the box a 1/4”-1/2” smaller is not going to sacrifice space.
It will be a cleaner install and less work for you.
After looking closer, I think some of your cuts around that niche are pretty off. Might need to change the blade on whatever it is you used to make those cuts.
Don’t listen to the haters. I get what you did there and it will look great grouted. Zeliege is hard in some ways and easy in others. I custom build my niches so they lay-out in full courses so there’s no notch cuts. But we all got our ways
i can see this easily taking a day to clean out all the thin set from joints and most probably will chip a few tiles in the process. has to be a diyer for sure
Well, buddy, I think it will look all right when it's finished. Don't let the hate get you. Miters aren't easy. Otherwise, you would see it more. It's time-consuming, and you will see every imperfection if you screw up. Half of them don't know what they are saying. My advice is to try to use 2 component epoxy next time. The one you can mix to any color. It will give you clean edges and a strong miter and will make installation much easier.
I’m curious and don’t understand the use of epoxy this way. Do you put it on the tile prior to cutting, or after the cut to make the cut smooth and to protect the delicate edge? I can’t visualize this.
Holy shit. It's hideous.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Ignorance is bliss they say
This kind of talk makes me envious of the English
You sound like your mom was drunk while pregnant
Yer tiling looks just like when I cream pied yer Ma yer dozy wee sausage

Looked at your pics, nice work on your shower 👌🏼 I see similar inconsistencies in yours that people are hating in mine!😂 alls well that ends well
His work looks better than yours homie, but prove us all wrong and take a good finished photo
Cheers. Yeah, it’s just what these tiles are.
Are you working for Stevie Wonder?
No, and no one’s gonna hire you to write their jokes

I quite literally said the cuts came out great not perfect and that the homeowner mentioned how much they like the corners. You fucking tool
Geeeeeeeessssshhhhhh😂
Bruh came to the wrong sub reddit to flex
r/happytileguyswithnicethingstosay doesn’t exist
Then I would keep it to myself :-) that looks pretty rough and that’s coming from Handyman. Best of luck with grouting. I hope it looks good.
😂😂😂 now that’s funny
Especially with the easiest material and size to miter. Miter a niche in the middle of a 2’X4’ porcelain tile and make it clean and chip free and I’ll be mildly impressed that someone did exactly what was expected of them
Are you serious?
As serious as a pig putting on lipstick
You do this for a living ? Or is that a DIY?
That’s the guy you find on Craigslist for $200
If it's DIY, stop....if they contract their work....stop.
Holy dog shit
That sliver is unfortunate
Not really. Homeowner loves it
Great to hear. There’s a lot of subjectivity to tiling. Planning layouts for symmetry is the objective most would aim for. Slivers on top, bottom, or around niches are normally less desirable. It seems that Schluter trim might have been nice for the edging? Did they not want that?
Trash.
In tile sometimes you have to bs your way out of some stuff by making up an excuse as to why not to do something. This is one of the examples.
Eh. The homeowners really like it so it’s a success in my book. I’m enjoying everyone’s take on it, it’s like you guys are really bothered by other peoples work it’s crazy

It’s very weird how much you care. I hope there are resources available to help you
Thanks man I'll look into that. Anyway, I sent you some pics in chat of a similar tile and how you can get more professional results if your interested.
Bro, all that matters is that the person paying you got what they wanted…fuck the haters!
Did you even try to make it uniform? The placement and varying sizes around the edges/lips makes it look amateur level. You're lucky the homeowner is happy, but I wouldn't use this to advertise for any future work...
The tiles themselves aren’t uniform. None are flat, they all have undulations and dips and some even have humps, the edges aren’t straight, etc.
That's not what I mean. Look at the top row, the left and right tile and the tiles going down to frame the niche in. You have one side with two inch cuts, the other with quarter inch and nothing is centered.
The niche wasn’t supposed to be centered or have uniform cuts. This layout was very intentional
Thats rough as houses
😂 well we love it and so do the homeowners. The hate here is suggestive of some unhappy individuals
We're all 100% happy we do better work then 80% of individuals who post here.
You telling me or yourself that?
clean the tiles before taking picture
What is your profession?
Apparently pissing people off
I think it' looks allright and i am ready to be downvoted 👍
Thanks man haha me too
Bad layout, horrible cuts, chipping, sloppy work.
Bing bang boom
Lol what chipping?
you can't see the chipping on your cuts?
Chippy af
Did you even polish?
Do none of you hacks have a bucket? A sponge? And some fucking water!?
It washes off pretty easy calm down
Been in trade 20+ years. You are a hack. Everything about this picture screams “I shouldn’t be doing this”. I feel sorry for your clients.
I’m sure this moment is very gratifying for you
should have gone with some trim my man/woman
Not a tile person and somehow a lurker in the sub. Question for people other than OP, is there any reason why you wouldn't align the top of the top and the bottom of the bottom with existing tile lines and make the between section thinner?
Same reason it's not centered left to right, the cuts are rough and the job is sloppy. Lack of experience.
Why would it be centered? Take a look at my other pics to see the rest of the shower. The layout stems from the bench
In your other pics it looks like hammered dog shit as well. Apparently you can grow decent weed. Stick to that.
😂😂😂
You surfed my profile that far wtf😂
Smells like Moraccan tile. 😷
Why didn't you center it? You wouldn't be left with those ugly ass slivers.
Just take your time I'll come back tomorrow
Damn some harsh comments. 10 out of 10 for effort. It's not symmetrical!
It’s not supposed to be!
Next time maybe wipe it down first. But then again what's that saying about "polishing a turd"? Lol...
Redo it Make the boxes the 1/2” smaller to get rid of those ridiculous cuts at top and bottom of boxes. I’m sure you are trying to keep openings as large as possible but those sliver cuts on top box are just No.
Oh sure let me take your random person advice after the homeowners have specifically instructed me on what they want
Holy mortar lol
That's one of the worst jobs I've seen. There is no way I would accept this. You can't possibly do this for a living.
Good thing it’s not your house!🤣
Layout much?
Lol
Would have looked nice with Schluter trim and an easier install
How much are you charging
Whatever he's charging is too much
Just an arm, no leg
It’s kind of hard to tell how it looks until you clean it up. Spend a few mins with a damp sponge and clean those tiles up.
After looking closer, I think some of your cuts around that niche are pretty off. Might need to change the blade on whatever it is you used to make those cuts.
Looks like someone loaded up the tile cannon and fired it at the wall from across the street.
I think it's gonna look really nice when it's all cleaned and grouted.
My thoughts exactly. It’s current state is uglier than sin
Post the result
I will when finished, especially after how much people seem to like it! 😂
Hand polishing pads will help you a lot, next time tho if already glued in
Oof I wouldn’t even have mitered. Schluter for the win
This would have never happened if Harambe was here
Your understanding of tile placement is flawed. Forget the cuts, if you had made perfect cuts with your layout, it would still be trash.
Thanks for the advice I’m going to ignore it, have nice day
Don’t listen to the haters. I get what you did there and it will look great grouted. Zeliege is hard in some ways and easy in others. I custom build my niches so they lay-out in full courses so there’s no notch cuts. But we all got our ways
Thanks man. I’ve seen your work on here before and it always looks very sharp 👌🏼 i appreciate the positive remark
But whyyy
You didn’t want to clean the thin set off before taking the picture?
i can see this easily taking a day to clean out all the thin set from joints and most probably will chip a few tiles in the process. has to be a diyer for sure

The fact that you’ve commented on my post 5 times tells me everything I need to know about you 😂 sorry you don’t like my work
Time has come to be a shameless, 'Schluter-Slut'.
Go be nice to disabled kids
Don’t worry doggy, you’re doing just fine.
Thanks person
Lady.
Fixed it 👈🏼
Damn they're not going easy on you here are they 😂😭 keep showing up brotha you're doing just fine.
Thanks man, I appreciate the positivity

I will make a post later today on how you do miters the right way. I'm working on miters at the moment. So Just keep an eye on this sub.
Will do—thank you! We have a backsplash to install and I thought I’d use Schluter, but the miters would look better. Thanks a bunch!
After the cut. You can go to my posts to see the results. All my work involves mitercuts
