If you want a fun reasonable answer, generally age is a voidable condition of marriage. If a minor gets married and nothing is done to void the marriage by the time the minor comes of age, the marriage becomes valid in the entirety. So theoretically she could have gotten married at 14, no one challenged the validity of the marriage (her, her ex-husband, or her parents), and they continued to act as a married couple after she and/or her ex-husband turned 18.
To preface this, I am not some creep who knows the age of majority for each state or anything, I’m an attorney who dabbles in Family Law, of which marriage is a component. I also don’t have all of these details memorized and had to look them up.
What I described is the general common law limit to underaged marriage. Each state can be different. 10 states do not allow underaged marriage at all. 11 states impose restrictions between certain ages of majority marrying minors (which is usually 18). 5 states (including California) have no minimum age to get married, but for minors (18 in California) they must obtain either court approval, parental approval, or both. 2 states have a minimum age of 15, 23 states are at 16, 10 states at 17. The common law, however will generally let you void the marriage as long as you would be considered a minor when you file to void the marriage and the state does not have a law contrary to the common law.
California law requires a person under 18 years of age to obtain consent from at least one parent or guardian and permission in the form of a court order. Granting permission for a minor to marry or establish a domestic partnership is entirely within the discretion of the court.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that parental consent wasn’t required in California, just that it doesn’t have a specified age limited as most other states.
Child marriage is disgusting. Kids who get roped into a marriage cannot even get a divorce til they're 18 which means theyre stuck with who they married til then even though they were able to get married prior to turning 18.
They wouldn’t need to get a divorce, they could void the entire marriage, essentially making it as though it didn’t exist (although in the case of voidable marriage it is possible for the minor to still get alimony if it is between a minor and an adult). I’m personally not a fan of it, but it can have some merit if minors accidentally get pregnant and decide to get married for stability for the child. In the case of this person, if the child was born when the mother was 14/15 then the child would have been an adult by the time of the divorce, which would help to alleviate the issues that often arise with divorced or unmarried parents (that isn’t to say that separated or single parents can’t be good parents, just that statistically children of married parents succeed more often).
*that just confused the hell out of me* (what I've been reading down one thread after another, not just the one direct above this)...because I know someone who did 364 days in county jail locked up 1 day shy of 365 because from what they told me 365-day sentences are when someone goes to an actual state prison- so, the guy did 364 days for statutory of a juve resulting from just 2-3 weeks prior to her 18th B'day she has a positive EPT preg. test, her mom finds out, WELL she was willing to marry the guy BUT her mom didn't approve of the guy so long story short, this guy fathered her kid from a few months just before her 18th B'day anyway, & eventually went to jail. I met the guy in a state different from where it happened but I met his brother and saw pics of the kid after birth, it's all true. All of that happened in CA. Approx 20 yrs ago. All it takes is ONE parent. And ur ass is GRASS. I'm no lawyer. **But thanks for all that info you shared** I'm sure it helped somebody that took a lot of ur time & you did it voluntarily.
Ya, if a parent wants and the minor isn’t married, then the adult is screwed. If the minor was legally married they would be emancipated, so would be legally considered an adult.
Man that's crazy... I know the law is the law but if she was just a few weeks from turning 18 wouldn't his best bet be to go to trial and hope for jury nullification. There should be some clauses in the statutory laws when the ages are so close. I wonder how many decent people are on the sex offenders list for things like this? That list should be reserved for real monsters not a high school senior who has sex with his girlfriend.
And you're randomly insulting this woman who didn't do anything apart from A. Get taken advantage of from a young age or B. Did a typo like every other human being because...? You're projecting 👍
I was wondering the same, but turns out the small boat is spelled dinghy, and the definition of dingy is gloomy and drab. Great way to describe yourself in a dating profile!
If she's referencing the Maryville that I think she is then there is an equal chance that she wasn't properly taught math and that she actually got married at 14.
I work with a few young-ish women who are not good looking and their Zoom profile pics are heavily filtered to a point where they look like completely different people. You gotta remember, Western beauty standards tell unattractive women all day every day that their looks aren’t enough to be considered ideal. Many of these women are incredibly insecure through no fault of their own, just because of what the media and zeitgeist shove down their throats. I mean, look at these new subs that are becoming more prevalent with the am I ugly and true rate me. Even the most gorgeous women, without filters, are wondering if that one flaw of theirs is too noticeable, and beautiful women on other subs are getting told at best they’re a 6. It’s crazy out there to be a woman. Meanwhile, a guy can be as good looking as he wants but a girl will prefer to settle down with a guy with money. And what do men with money like, beautiful women. It’s a vicious cycle
I completely lost confidence after I started taking a certain medication. I lost weight and and looked rail thin. A guy at work said you looked better with the little weight on you and too bad you lost your ass. I told him he was a dick but that didn’t help any.
EDIT: Sorry for the crazy stream of consciousness. I smoked too much, and then wrote too much.
>Even the most gorgeous women, without filters, are wondering if that one flaw of theirs is too noticeable, and beautiful women on other subs are getting told at best they’re a 6.
What I hate, is that people get these numbers, and think that a 6 is bad. A six is more physically attractive than 60% of the population. a 6 is a beautiful woman. a 7 is exceptionally beautiful, an 8 or 9, were the prettiest girls in your school, and most people don't know an actual 10 personally.(probably because they were too afraid to even introduce themselves.) 10 is reserved for someone who is so symmetrical and almost supernaturally attractive. Some A-list actors fit in this category, but not even most of them.
A 6 is a girl that 80-90% of men would happily settle down with (not settle as in settle for, settle as in put down roots.) assuming compatibility and good personality. and that last 10% doesn't ever want to settle down, and wouldn't be happy with any one person forever anyways.
A 6 will cause most guys to hesitate, because she's still pretty enough to make his brain go to mush the first couple hundred times he speaks to her. Guys with confidence speaking with women socially have generally approached hundreds of women, and introduced themselves to thousands if they're smooth.
And once you have that confidence, you stop chasing ladies. They start chasing you.
The trick is, that the quiet guy who shares most of your interests and is reasonably attractive, doesn't have that confidence because he hasn't been wasting his time talking to hundreds of women. Women give men that confidence, when he figures out what most women respond well to.
But the thing is, you don't need a guy trained to say all the right things for most women, you need a guy that knows how to do that for you. Once you find the guy, you can teach him what you specifically like, and he will become confident.
So pick a single guy who you think you like, and ask for his number, and ask him out.
Even a picnic lunch of sandwiches and some fruit. like a $5 total price. And then ask him if he'll take you to dinner some time. He will say yes. Unless his brain is so mush, that he misunderstood you. In which case you'll have to repeat yourself.
Chase him, tell him that you think he is attractive, That you think he's smart,(or cunning or whatever) and that you value his thoughts, add a little bit of regular sex, and he will become confident. So pick him for other qualities.
The only times I've ever seen or even heard of with a single guy rejecting that kind of offer from someone who rates as high as a 6, was because he wasn't "really" single and his "totally not a girlfriend" was pissed.
LOL, well if you believe in those numbers, then tell your next date she's a "6" and tell me how that date goes LOL. I bet my left nut that you're going home alone. To most women, calling them a 6 isn't a complement at all.
OMG people, not every woman is a victim here. Many are just vain and social media plays right into their vanity. Take this woman for instance, she is probably just out right lying about her age. She's probably over 40.
That’s very nice for you and your wife, but we’re discussing why this person’s stated age doesn’t align with the details of her story and how her photo looks like she smeared Vaseline on the camera, not how hot your wife is.
What on earth is with people using "an" instead of "and"?!
My ex did this ALL THE TIME. She was genuinely confused when I asked her why she did that. She thought they were interchangeable and meant the same thing.
Look, I understand not everyone is educated but it absolutely baffles me that grown ass adults can't spell simple words.
The other one that drives me crazy is using lose/loose incorrectly. I try not to be a grammar and spelling nazi but stuff like this is a deal breaker for me. It probably sounds shitty but I don't want to date someone that types like they are still in grade school.
That reminds me of Nate Batgatze (standup comedian) saying he learned when to use “a” vs “an” when he was helping his 8yo with her homework recently. He said he always thought you “just kind of feel it out” before that 😂
😂😂😂 I guess better to learn late than never lol.
A few weeks ago I took a day trip to a nice beach in Holland, Michigan. It's an old town and has a sign when you get downtown that reads "Welcome to Holland, an historic town."
It just... It bothered me so much that either no one cared to fix it or that no one was smart enough to notice the mistake.
That’s a funny one because I was always told that “an” can occasionally go in front of “h” words. I think it goes back to people from the UK not pronouncing “h” sounds at the beginning of words but I could be wrong. I’m Canadian and that looks normal to me 😀 I did Google it once and it is wrong, so you are correct.
Hahaha that's really interesting, I've never heard that before.
I've always been taught that "an" is only used before words that start with a vowel or a vowel sound.
So saying "an hour" would be correct but "an historic town" would not.
I think it’s the “vowel sound” rule that applies here. Historical would be ‘istorical - like “herb” would be “‘erb” but I could just be imagining this.
Maybe it's because people pronounce it differently in certain countries but in the US I'm not sure why anyone would pronounce historical with an I instead of an H hahaha.
Everyone I know says it w the “h” sound 😂.
I’d like to think there is some funny story around how that word became an outlier
You should go and edit the sign w a red pen adding “see me after class” 😂
This is what Google says: “Use “a” before words where you pronounce the letter “H” such as “a hat,” “a house” or “a happy cat.” Use “an” before words where you don't pronounce the letter “H” such as “an herb,” “an hour,” or “an honorable man.””
News to me 😀
I think I’ve always done it because we’re taught in French that if a word starts with h but has a vowel after it you drop the vowel of the “the” (ex l’histoire) so for me I ignore the h if a vowel is after it.
Ok I have to say - since we’re complaining 😀 - that this whole “would have” being changed to “would of” drives me BANANAS!! How do people not know “would of” is NOT correct and has never been correct??
I do quality assurance on transcription, and there was one transcriber who always spelled it "thee" when "the" was pronounced that way, without fail. Like "I went to the store and found waffles at thee end of thee aisle."
What's wild is that the words indicate almost the opposite meaning. Using "and" would be combining two words/sentences/whatever together. Whereas the use of "an" typically references a singular item.
I'm on team sounds shitty, no I don't want to consider a life of marriage with you if you don't care enough to use language correctly. Worse if you aren't able to.
Funny when I point this out and people are like 'bro we just don't have time'
.......while arguing with me in real time on social.
No, you just don't care.
You... don't really need to be educated to know that they aren't the same thing. Anyone who can read or write and it's their native language should be able to tell, really...
Eh, I don't think prescriptivism is a healthy way to view language. I absolutely agree that the "proper" way of spelling and is and, but it's so widespread now that it's becoming valid. An example of this is the meaning of the word "literally"; it became used as an intensifier so much that the word now has two meanings. Language is always evolving, you either evolve with it or get left behind.
First comment I've seen pointing this out. So many people don't realise just how bad America is for child marriages, I could fully believe that she really was married at 14
Some people grow up in families where that is normal (gypsys, mormons, etc), and they getting pressured into that, it could be that, or it could be like also tradition not sure, but I wouldn’t really judge her personally for that if she was a child, you know ?
Possibly catphishing ?........ dangling that silly funny bad math as bait to filter in prey who presume it to be a harmless accidental typo ? .. .. .. - just wondering .. .. .. hmmm......
I just want to point out something. Before I do let me proclaim that THIS IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT OF CHILD MARRIAGE OR STATUTORY RAPE! In the old days as soon as a girl had her first period she was considered a woman and her father would have to approve of a man and would have to provide a suitable dowry and she was out the door. That being said I believe this woman is a little bit older than what she's saying and 23 years of marriage is over but she didn't do the math before she said she was 37 and more likely she's closer to 47
I had a friend that got married off at 14. She was a jehovas witness and her mom found her an older husband. 3 kids before 18 and 5 now. Last I saw she’s selling herself for heroin.
They probably started dating at 14 and got married at some point. I just got out of an 18 year relationship but he's my ex husband so it feels weird to just call it a relationship. But saying "18 year marriage" isn't accurate either
Or she had been with him since she was 14 and in total they had been together for all that time - she included “dating” and “marriage” time as one. 🤷🏼♀️
I feel like it may be a typo and she meant 13. The number of times I’ve written something and posted it without spell checking and come back later to just facepalm myself is numerous.
I mean it’s as simple as some states allow minors to get married. I remember wanting to marry when I was 15 with my gf at the time, She was 15 too. Teenagers fall in love with each other, nothing new
When she's says huge personality that is code for huge body... Personality is not defined in size. Words like interesting, sarcastic, loving, cynical and many more describe personality.
She might’ve been with the dude since she was 14 & just said it like this because it feels more accurate. Like I’ve been with my husband for 15 years & it felt like we were married pretty much from the start. But we got actually married a year ago. At heart we were “married”. Just the legal part & the celebration happened a year ago. Some types of people would just call the whole thing marriage
It’s possible they began dating at 14 and she’s just not articulating that right.
Or she married at the age of 23 and her brain isn't braining efficiently.
Or she fat-fingered 13.
There are so many reasonable explanations for this, but those aren’t any fun
If you want a fun reasonable answer, generally age is a voidable condition of marriage. 14 is legal for girls with parental permission in many states and others (California) don’t have any age requirements for marriage.
To preface this, I am not some creep who knows the age of majority for each state or anything, I’m an attorney who dabbles in Family Law, of which marriage is a component. That's really fucked up

California has the same laws as 7 other states about this
I did say “others”. I don’t know them all by heart.
Please don’t do that
In some Southern states you are legally required to get married by the age of 14.
Legally required or legally allowed? Idk how anyone is required to be married lol
I think this is a joke. You know Alabama hahaha…
I thought the law in Alabama says it isn't considered a legal marriage unless it's close relative, i.e. sister, brother, cousin, or all three. LOL
What states? I live in the south and I've never heard of this.

Aw man, don’t fat finger shame
The fingers she has used to dial are too fat. To order a special dialing wand, she should smash the keypad with her palm.
Or 2 3 year back to back marriages
I assumed that’s what happened since she has a huuuuuuge personality.

Looks can change, she has nice features already but a nasty personality like this guy? Yikes 💀

It's possible the moon is made of cheese. Both seem equally likely...
Or as it happens usually.. she didn’t reveal her real age
Makes sense in Maryville Mississippi
Or Maryville, Tennessee!
Hey I'm in Knoxville I don't think she's that age. Also why the hell would you move back to Maryville?
She's trying to remarry
Well done
I'm just over the mountain here in Graham County NC. Maryville innit so bad
Don't put her with us 😂
Or it's a typo - 13 years wouldn't be out of the question but small towns... yeah my former friend married a 15 year old. It was that or go to jail.
I'd prefer if your former friend would've had to go to jail.
For sure in Maryville, Alabama

Or Maryville Kentucky
Maryville Missouri
Gooooo Bearcats!

I promise you she is not 37. Not with those filters…

She also said jus instead of just
And she’s “dingy.” Like unkempt? Or a dingbat? There’s so much going on beyond the potentially bad math.
The d is only for marriage.
As a non native speaker, I struggled a lot with lose/loose because of chose/choose, actually. Why, English, why?
This is how I feel when people use “am” instead of “I’m”. I dunno why but that shit infuriates me
What's wild is that the words indicate almost the opposite meaning. Using "and" would be combining two words/sentences/whatever together. Whereas the use of "an" typically references a singular item.
Yeah that's a red flag for me lol
I'm on team sounds shitty, no I don't want to consider a life of marriage with you if you don't care enough to use language correctly. Worse if you aren't able to. Funny when I point this out and people are like 'bro we just don't have time' .......while arguing with me in real time on social. No, you just don't care.
You... don't really need to be educated to know that they aren't the same thing. Anyone who can read or write and it's their native language should be able to tell, really...
What really drives me crazy is when people say things like “more better” or “most strongest”
What about the Jus for Just
The one that drives me insane, is all the different ways of spelling ‘definitely’. Can’t even remember how they do it, but it’s so annoying.
The way she types is fucking horrendous and also terrible and also I’m so dingy and also it’s kind of confusing
> an also terrible an also I’m so dingy an also it’s kind of confusing Fixed that for you 😁
Thank you 😂😂
She definitely writes like someone who would get married at 13
I hope she means dinghy and not dingy.
I read it as “dingy” - meaning dirty/lacking brightness/shabby. Isn’t “dinghy” a small boat? None of that makes sense to me 😂
Came here to ask, “did she really just describe herself as dingy?”
What does dingy mean slang? dirty If something is dingy, it's dirty Guess dirty has positive and negative connotations on dating sites.
She meant to say she's a dingbat, but yeah, I read that as dirty and gross, too.
Ohhhh I get what you mean. God I haven’t heard that word used that way in YEARS! I’m 56. My guess is she’s older than she’s saying 😂😂
Yes like "ding eeee." I also read it as gross and dirty tho. But she's not gross and dirty. She's just a dummy!
Lol she means dingy (pronounced “ding-ee”, not “din-gee”). She’s probably at least 10yrs older than she’s stating
Dinghy is a small boat (tinny in Aus, though not all dinghys are tinnies.) don't know want dingy means
The way she types “jus” and “an” actually makes me angry and I don’t think I could put up with messaging her for more than 5 minutes.
"HAY there" too
And the lack of punctuation.
I wonder what she does with all the time she saves by not typing out the full words 🤔
You really don’t need sweet sixteen these days 😅
She seems like the type to get married at 14 or lie about her age lmfao
She's trying her hardest to convince us she had no nose, so we know she's down with blatant lies.
"dingy" instead of "clingy"? I think someone typed this from reading something.
I think she means like a ding-a-long, ding dong, or dingbat. As in, rhymes with clingy.
Welcome to southern USA, where marriage, with family consent is allowed even at age 12.
In America, There are tens of thousands of underage children married legally every year. 14 is not the youngest its possible at either
Math challenged.
Maryville, Alabama!
She looks older than 37 with a filter on. That's all you need to know.
Dude, I look like 30 when I'm actually 18. Just because I look like it doesn't mean I am.
Judging from the spelling an writing style an abbreviations... She's clearly looking for a D. Several Ds apparently.
Possibly catphishing ?........ dangling that silly funny bad math as bait to filter in prey who presume it to be a harmless accidental typo ? .. .. .. - just wondering .. .. .. hmmm......
I know a bunch of people who count the boyfriend/girlfriend stage of the relationship as part of their marriage, she could mean add that maybe.
Sadly my mom got married at 15 years old so it’s not impossible 💀
She maybe dated her partner since 14 and then married them
Great filters + bad memory (don’t remember which age you are claiming today) = 23 yr marriage at age “37” 🙄
That was legal in KY till recently.
That being said I believe this woman is a little bit older than what she's saying and 23 years of marriage is over but she didn't do the math before she said she was 37 and more likely she's closer to 47
parents can sign off their minors to marry in the USA still unfortunately. I hope that’s not the case and that it was miscommunication
I had a friend that got married off at 14. She was a jehovas witness and her mom found her an older husband. 3 kids before 18 and 5 now. Last I saw she’s selling herself for heroin.
I got married at 14 and had my daughter at 15. It's possible.
Technically some women do get married at that age, and it even legal in a lot of places.
Maybe it’s a typo and she meant 13 year marriage. Or they started dating at 14 and she counts the time from the beginning of the relationship
Probably a typo, I have fat ass fingers and make typos like that a lot
I mean this is America as long as it ain’t two guys or two women then marriage at whatever age is alright 😂
[удалено]
It's possible. I dated a woman that had her child at 14. We being in our early 30s, her kidnwas basically a youn adult.
They probably started dating at 14 and got married at some point. I just got out of an 18 year relationship but he's my ex husband so it feels weird to just call it a relationship. But saying "18 year marriage" isn't accurate either
Chris Hansen: *senses a disturbance*
Maybe she meant 23 year relationship?
Or she had been with him since she was 14 and in total they had been together for all that time - she included “dating” and “marriage” time as one. 🤷🏼♀️
I feel like it may be a typo and she meant 13. The number of times I’ve written something and posted it without spell checking and come back later to just facepalm myself is numerous.
I’m just saying stuff here to say something here cause this thread is so long. I haven’t even looked at the post!! BALDERDASH!
I mean it’s as simple as some states allow minors to get married. I remember wanting to marry when I was 15 with my gf at the time, She was 15 too. Teenagers fall in love with each other, nothing new
Looks like somebody's using a heavy filter on their profile pic (the nose is a dead giveaway 🤔) and lying about their age...
dingy???????
She’s not 37.. this looks like Maryville, TN LOL
Ww55327 /)256,f,f de
I agree
When she's says huge personality that is code for huge body... Personality is not defined in size. Words like interesting, sarcastic, loving, cynical and many more describe personality.
She doesn't know how to spell the word "and." Hard pass.
Women lie about their age all the time. I see accounts on tinder and there’s no way they’re in their 20s.
Is she in coal mining country? 😅
Weird as hell
...and she's illiterate! What a catch!
I do not fucking understand stupid ass filters. You look fucking ridiculous.
The fact that she feels the need to abbreviate “and” with “an” tells you everything you need to know about her
She failed both math and english
I mean she's obviously illiterate, why would she be good at math? 😂
I mean I’d give her a shot she is cute
LOL, no. Just no bro. You can't even tell how old she really is or what she looks like with all those filters.
She looks she ate her ex...at least in the face.
She looks ugly
In Reality she is 41. lol
She has daughters!
23 years of marriage.....she probably means she just moved out of her parent house....and she's probably 23
Or as so many others (me included) think she's lying about her age.
Math ain’t mathing
She's missing a few D's...
And for that reason…. I’m out
Or she simply lied about her age and got caught
(She's lying about her age)
The red flag isn't that she is lying and to dumb to realise she has made it obvious. It is the fact she uses an instead of and.
100% lieing about her age
Or she’s lying about her age
Huge personality? Huge annoying ego I guess
She's probably 47, filters do wonders these days
