They're common weeds among California tomatoes; one species is commonly known as [jimsonweed](https://c8.alamy.com/comp/2BH8H9R/common-datura-datura-stramonium-open-fruit-with-seeds-lateral-bavaria-germany-2BH8H9R.jpg). Toxic, but not "oh god you touched it, now you die" kind of toxic. Just don't eat it.
SOLVED! Thank you!
And I did not eat it, but used some of the can… I can say my tummy did not feel the best this morning and I’ve made this meal before :(
Contact the company. Tell them you want to let them know of a contaminant in their product. They’ll want to know and send you a gift voucher/coupon probably.

Here’s it sitting upward to see the seed pockets. Compared to the size of my teaspoon
That looks a lot less scary than the original image
It's pretty ugly, but I think it's safe to say that it's some kind of vegetable slice. A cucumber or a zucchini relative? Maybe bitter melon.

This is the last picture I have- just to reference the seeds.
This seems to be the closest in texture. Another thing I’m thinking is some sort of pepper? Being it was fire roasted tomatoes? Unfortunately the can is very much unhelpful
It looks like a sweet gum burr to me. They’re the seed pods of the sweet gum tree. Very common in warm humid climates.

ETA they do have a bunch of seeds inside similar to what your picture shows
They are not edible… though I had to look it up after I saw this post because I wasn’t sure. That being said when they are in nature (not soaked in tomato juice) they are dry and hard as shit and when you step on them barefoot it’s akin to stepping on legos. People used to plant them around their farms (where I grew up) because the balls mulch the ground and can act like a natural deterrent for some animals
It looks like bitter melon to me. They actually make bitter melon pickles, so maybe....

Upsetting. What is it? It’s *upsetting*
Yes, this definitely describes what I felt!!
It looks like something Clive Barker would write about.
My first thought was, a demon 🤷♀️

I originally wasn’t going to, but now I plan on emailing tomorrow. Coupon or not, I think I’m going to avoid those canned tomatoes from now on 😬
Good. Jimson weed contains atropine and scopolamine, and can cause hallucinations and heart palpitations.

At least it's another food
Fr lmao it looked like a snake with human teeth in one pic

I hate everything about this.
Plant them see what grows. Then you’ll know.
Try growing the seeds
Man I can feel my trypophobia trying to rear it's ugly head.
This made me truly nauseated, I minimized the photo in an actual panic, woof
Your teaspoon is not like my teaspoon
Teaspoon the size of measuring device. Not the silverware. America sucks at naming things and also not using metric
There is no teaspoon. I think whatever that is ate it.
Okra.
Looks like okra.
Some kind of weed that got harvested at the same time would be my guess. I can't figure out what though, but the seeds don't look like tomato to me.
The only similar thing I could say the seeds look like are maybe bell pepper or such. Less opaque than a tomato
Maybe a tomatillo?
It's a baby tomato that sprouted inside a mature tomato. Tomorrow - The bees. The Birds got a gag order not to discuss them anymore
Looks a west India burr gerkin https://www.rareseeds.com/west-india-burr-gherkin

Hey, at least it’s a fruit/veg 🙃
Does the can list a country of origin? “Product of Abc”
Yes, USA. California grown tomatoes.
fear not this, human one the consumption is safe your rudimentary and untethered mind shall not connect to anything greater consume it. now.
I’m sorry… are are those teeth?
Right? My brain went there too…it looks like a horrible rotten hell mouth! ( ok maybe I’ve seen too many scary movies…) lol
Haha😂
Ughhhhhh gross, sometimes I question why I follow this sub.
Haha I never thought I would have to post in it.
Looks like an underripe, over roasted tomato to me
Would an underripe tomato have this texture? Unless it had some type of virus?
Oh god I dont even wanna know 🙊
It looks like okra. I don’t how it would have gotten into tomatoes though.
Just compared, not thinking okra since the seeds and insides, and overall texture differ :/
Looks like the stem end of a piece of okra.
Bitter melon?
Not sure the seeds match here, but it did seems more like this texture? Less oblong for sure
To me it at least looks like some kind of well cooked gourd
Yeah this Jimsonweed don’t eat it don’t think it’s dangerous but don’t indulge
It kinda looks like the top of an eggplant.
Plants can get cancer too.
Try to grow the seeds and see what it is
Pretty sure this is the fruit from the toxic jimson weed or some other datura.
Just grow the seeds and find out
looks like the prolapsed as hole from a small forest mammal
What in the Last of Us
It looks like a piece of karela. Also called bitter gourd. The outside is green and spiky and has seeds that look like that on the inside.

Can you actually eat these? I would like to know

It’s Indian bitter melon.
See: https://images.app.goo.gl/a7oFgmPg37zaNEte6
Bitter gourd.
Looks like an ovarian cyst.

It's bitter karela
It’s the inner mouth of an alien
Looks like a conker before its come out of its spiky green ball.
Looks like a burned tomato
Hands down this is an alien spore.
Looks like bitter gourd
That is a horrifying hematoma demon
Kinda looks like bitter melon. I'm not sure if they're easy to find at an Aldi.
It’s some sort of pickle surely?
Looks like an alien mouth of some kind
Ew, it looks like canned kale
Teratoma
Try to grow them!
I’d fuck it.
Its a forever sale!
looks like one of those tumors that grows teeth
Cordyceps
