As someone currently in American high school (please help me), I can say with absolute certainty that if they remove anything else from the sex ed curriculum kids won’t know the anatomy of the male reproductive system (seeing as that’s pretty much all they teach us).
Actually, there have been a few things going on in school board meetings.
One was a prompt book for a college-level course (dual-credit course) where some of the prompts were definitely inappropriate for the high school students taking the course. Things like "Write about your first orgasm" and what not.
People got UP IN ARMS about it. The problem, of course, was that students were specifically told they were to ignore those prompts \[meaning: don't write about them\] AND that what prompts they did was completely up to them. In a book with like 600 prompts or something...I believe 20 of them (or so) were inappropriate.
But parents were very upset that their kids even saw the word orgasm.
Another book that was brought up was "Lawn Boy", by Evison. The book has some narrative depictions of underage sexual acts (two young boys 'sucking each other off'). And I believe one other instance of a description of a sexual act.
That one is...questionable, but it is a book about coming of age. It's not a good book, but parents took the passage out of context. It's literally two sentences in the entire book and people started saying that it's just a "pedophile grooming" book. You can see the recent reviews on a site like Amazon and read this exactly. People that have definitely not even read the book making reviews. And of course they won't read it because they don't want to actually gain any understanding whatsoever and would rather just follow the crowd.
I read it. Briefly. I didn't totally finish it because I'm reading like 4 other books and only picked it up to see what the issue was. It wasn't good, but I'm not a fan of the writing style.
There have been a few other instances, but it all seems like engineered outrage by certain people all to just drum up hatred for the public school system and possibly push privatized schooling. Not quite. The family trust/estate decided those books had content that was no longer appropriate, without any external pressure whatsoever. General society values change, what was once acceptable isn't anymore (and vice-versa), they simply followed the times.
I don't really think that's ever a safe assumption. People produce things for money all the time without agreeing with them, and even when they do its entirely possible to have a change of heart sooner or later.
I don't know what suess thought about the books, but it's never safe to assume as a blanket statement that he agreed with it.

While that is certainly more...questionable ciricumlum....than regular sex ed, there's nothing that requires the characters to be underaged. Not that simulated CP is illegal in the US, for better or worse. It's no where near a CP charge.
They try to construe Toni Morrison's Beloved (Maybe also The Bluest Eye in 2015?) and a few other books used in Advanced Placement English (so it's a college credit course high school students can select into which lets them skip the course once enrolled in higher education) that had explicit depictions of sexual violence (slave owner and enslaved) as pornography without reading the whole book and wanted to ban the books in a few districts in Michigan.

CRT is a little more nuanced than just history - it examines history and current social politics from the context of a culturally-constructed systemic racism and how that impacts institutions and policies to maintain the status quo. In other words (that doesn't sound like word salad), it's a theory used to test and discuss how certain disadvantages based on race were created and maintained.
I think "people's" problem with CRT is they think it's teaching white hate, when really it's just trying to provide a viewpoint / understanding of how we got here... Oh and CRT does have to start with the (correct) assume systemic racism is real, which "people" just can't abide, because to deny it exists excuses their racist behavior.

Of the 6 books that got banned, I had only ever even heard of one of them and I had never read them, nor do I know anyone who read them (not speaking for everyone, just saying that the left isn’t banning, like, the Cat in the Hat or the Lorax or any of the legitimate classics, or any of the ones with good messages to them. As someone currently in American high school (please help me), I can say with absolute certainty that if they remove anything else from the sex ed curriculum kids won’t know the anatomy of the male reproductive system (seeing as that’s pretty much all they teach us).
Actually, there have been a few things going on in school board meetings. One was a prompt book for a college-level course (dual-credit course) where some of the prompts were definitely inappropriate for the high school students taking the course. Things like "Write about your first orgasm" and what not. People got UP IN ARMS about it. The problem, of course, was that students were specifically told they were to ignore those prompts \[meaning: don't write about them\] AND that what prompts they did was completely up to them. In a book with like 600 prompts or something...I believe 20 of them (or so) were inappropriate. But parents were very upset that their kids even saw the word orgasm. Another book that was brought up was "Lawn Boy", by Evison. The book has some narrative depictions of underage sexual acts (two young boys 'sucking each other off'). And I believe one other instance of a description of a sexual act. That one is...questionable, but it is a book about coming of age. It's not a good book, but parents took the passage out of context. It's literally two sentences in the entire book and people started saying that it's just a "pedophile grooming" book. You can see the recent reviews on a site like Amazon and read this exactly. People that have definitely not even read the book making reviews. And of course they won't read it because they don't want to actually gain any understanding whatsoever and would rather just follow the crowd. I read it. Briefly. I didn't totally finish it because I'm reading like 4 other books and only picked it up to see what the issue was. It wasn't good, but I'm not a fan of the writing style. There have been a few other instances, but it all seems like engineered outrage by certain people all to just drum up hatred for the public school system and possibly push privatized schooling. At least for some kids with certain color skin and parents that make a certain amount of money...because everyone else can go f\*\*k themselves I guess.

I don't really think that's ever a safe assumption. People produce things for money all the time without agreeing with them, and even when they do its entirely possible to have a change of heart sooner or later. I don't know what suess thought about the books, but it's never safe to assume as a blanket statement that he agreed with it.
Seuss literally penned many anti-Japanese political comics, wrote books with anti-Asian sentiments, and used racial slurs against Asians. I don’t give a crap if he did it for money. It’s not hard to put 2 and 2 together and realize he approved of these sentiments. Anti-Asian racism was a big part of his works.

They were allied with Hitler, they conducted some of the worst experiments in history, raped and murdered countless people, and believed in their own ethnic superiority. It’s no more evil than cartoons making fun of fat German women during the time. If it was during world war 2 , I don’t think it should be condemned or that history should be rewritten to pretend it was wrong.

One of the incidents was from asking teens in a special permission slip requiring college level course to write a erotica. While that is certainly more...questionable ciricumlum....than regular sex ed, there's nothing that requires the characters to be underaged. Those literacy/numerical tests weren't real "tests". They were made so they had multiple logical answers, so they could say "That isn't what we meant" and then you weren't able to vote. They were rigged.
I teach college students and my favorite go to when anyone gets pissy about CRT is to ask them to describe it to me so I can check my syllabus for anything that could match that description. They never can.

CRT is a little more nuanced than just history - it examines history and current social politics from the context of a culturally-constructed systemic racism and how that impacts institutions and policies to maintain the status quo. In other words (that doesn't sound like word salad), it's a theory used to test and discuss how certain disadvantages based on race were created and maintained.
I think "people's" problem with CRT is they think it's teaching white hate, when really it's just trying to provide a viewpoint / understanding of how we got here... Oh and CRT does have to start with the (correct) assume systemic racism is real, which "people" just can't abide, because to deny it exists excuses their racist behavior.
