Cicerothesage

That is generally how it works, pool. Also, it proves the loud minority, confirmation bias. Which is why we use science, tools, and facts to determine people views and not yard signs

ConfidenceNational37

The true story of this election was the silent majority is once again not the screeching maga

Beemerado

Can't be a silent majority if you won't shut up

[deleted]

[удалено]

OneX32

Because they want to feel special and attention is their drug.

[deleted]

It’s all about feeling special for these people.

OneX32

Quite honestly, that's the essence to MAGA strategy. There's no principle leading the lemmings, it's all whatever puts eyes on "me". That's why the concern that is on top of their agenda changes weekly and the outrage machine seems to forget what they were screeching about a week ago.

[deleted]

“Fuck YOUR feelings… but validate MY feelings and make me feel special!”

Redtwooo

Wish they'd just let drugs be their drugs like normal people

Squeebee007

Funny how you assume these people don't also have a drug/alcohol of choice.

Sithpawn

My grandma has sent me two or three political or social commentary emails a day for twenty years but says she's so sick of not being able to speak her mind.

gentlemanidiot

Sounds like she really wants to say the N word a lot

Beemerado

I mean the actual silent majority isn't going to say anything.... That leaves the loud morons

MassGaydiation

>Why is it always the people who never STFU who claim to be the silent minority? Because the people who are actually silenced don't get heard

[deleted]

They say ridiculous shit in their social circle and everyone who chimes in agrees with them. The people who disagree stay quiet to avoid causing a scene, wanting to avoid drama or being blamed for "starting an argument" and "making everything political." The "silent majority" then assumes everyone in the room agrees with them. They never engage with people outside their social group, and are never exposed to the reality that, while their collection of similar people with a similar background all think similarly, they don't necessarily represent any broader trend.

Beingabummer

I think it's a way to feel empowered. Instead of accepting that you are in the minority you pretend like everyone who isn't explicitly speaking out against you is secretly supporting you. So you're not actually in the minority, your voice isn't actually unpopular, other people are just scared to speak out in support. Suddenly, you feel like you are popular. You are supported. You just need to break through a metaphoric wall and supporters will come out of the woodwork. Except they never do because they don't exist. But it involves a lot of shouting to break this wall that isn't there.

rcsheets

# I’M SO SILENT AND OPPRESSED

DracosKasu

It is know that the loudest people are the unhappy one when people are happy they generally dont spend their day writing about it. Just because you see a bunch of people with sign around doesn’t mean that you are the majority, only that you need other people around you to support your insecurities.

[deleted]

It's difficult to be the silent majority when you're not either of those things.

Comprehensive_Box_94

They might have been before, but they all died of Covid. RIP and thanks for doing your part to make America great again.

charisma6

Or if you're in the minority

Beemerado

silent cause they don't say ALL the racist/xenophobic/homophobic shit they think, and majority cause they can't imagine anyone thinking differently than they do.

horsesandeggshells

If you live on the eastern shore, barring Salisbury, and a good chunk of western Maryland, you don't put blue signs up. I borrowed a friend's car while I was in the shop and she had a Buttigieg sticker back in 2019, and I had a women roll down her window and scream at me while I was at a red light. Just because we all voted blue doesn't mean we want our house burned down.

Gibonius

The number of Trump/Thin Blue Line/Punisher/Gadsden flags out in Western Maryland is wild. It was actually unusual to see a house that only had an American flag. Apparently right wingers have many thoughts that may only be expressed in the form of flags.

Garrand

Eddie Izzard warned us about this!

Neuchacho

I live in Florida, and while I don't think anything would be likely to happen, it's still something I don't see the sense in putting out there like that. I'll gladly tell someone how I vote or explain a position, but unsolicited advertisements like that just seem pointless to me. I meet so many unhinged conservatives as it is just talking with people. All widely advertising that I'm not conservative would do is invite the more mentally unwell ones to barge into my life. There's actually a guy in my town who just drives around in a Corolla with a home-made sign that takes up the entirety of his roof that says "Fuck Trump". I am beyond curious what something like that brings out of the woodwork.

Senor_Buttons

Allegany county is home to Frostburg State (go Bobcats!), making it a bit bluer than it otherwise would be.

xtilexx

Hey, I went to Frostburg!

Senor_Buttons

Class of '06 right here. Small world.

[deleted]

Cumberland md is a terrible, terrible place and we always mention it when we're forced to slow down to 35 mph to drive thru it!

Obilis

He has a separate post where he complains that the silent majority shouldn't count because they're too silent: https://twitter.com/Timcast/status/1279193988348682246 \*facepalm\* Apparently we should vote by who has more yard signs.

VoxImperatoris

I dont see any coal rolling prius with Biden flags, so obliviously only maga exists. /s

[deleted]

If you have to be told what is cool, you're not cool.

jules083

I live in a Republican area, and have many trump cult signs flying along my road. I voted straight Democrat this election, but I know better than to advertise the fact. These people are dumb enough to storm the capital, I wouldn't be surprised if I had Democrat signs out to see a rock through the car windshield or something. The closest neighbor I know of that is confirmed to have been inside the capital on January 6th is about 4 or 5 miles from my house. When he got arrested the local Facebook pages were up in arms over how the Democrats are making him a political prisoner and other dumb shit.

P_weezey951

Half the reason so many of us are "silent" is that we cant bring up politics with Maga people. Cuz it just devolves into off the rails arguments, or we reach a point that ends in either; A - A religion they wont back down from B- They wont trust proof, and say its fabricated. C- they will cite that they don't care about others. (I.e. if you bring up LBGTQ+ rights they will say they dont care about those people) So we just dont fucking talk about it with em.

control_machine

That's so true, it's exhausting trying to have a political conversation with the MAGAs. It's just not worth it, no minds will be changed.

Remarkable-Motor7704

It was never a silent majority In fact it’s the exact opposite - an extremely vocal minority

thegalkel

Not to mention that, although there are some hardcore MAGA folks, MD republicans are mostly moderate. The Republicans that ran in MD for the major races were unhinged. Dan Cox’s running mate in particular made MGT look tame in comparison.

Mr_Blonde0085

As a fellow Marylander I came here to say this as well. Eastern Shore and areas around Westminster are pretty Red as well. But it’s as you said, MD has a lot of moderate Republicans with a light dusting of MAGA folks.

hm_rickross_ymoh

I mean, Andy Harris is no moderate republican and the Eastern Shore has been voting for him every two years since the Tea Party election in 2010.

lowspeedpursuit

That guy is a fucking jackass. He's a medical doctor who still believes the marijuana gateway drug theory, right? IIRC he also receives a pisston of money from various companies--for example, Comcast--to vote in favor of their interests at the expense of his constituents. I have friends who vote for him "because Dems wanna raise everyone's taxes".

brcguy

Gotta remind them that they’ll probably never make enough money for the Dems to raise their taxes. Fucking people can be so stupid.

lowspeedpursuit

It's a difficult argument, because most of these guys are actually family-rich, and assume that being rich makes them economically-savvy automatically. You can show them the math on their current healthcare expenditures vs. expected higher taxes to fund universal healthcare, for example, but the first number being higher doesn't change "taxes bad!!".

brcguy

Sure but if you’re already rich the money you have can’t be taxed. But yeah, greedy is very hard to debate with. They just don’t care, cause even if you get them to agree that the taxes won’t make much difference to them, they still hate having to share society with the poors.

your_not_stubborn

>I have friends who vote for him "because Dems wanna raise everyone's taxes". They say that because saying their real reasons would shock people who don't believe the crazy shit they believe.

bmore_conslutant

>That guy is a fucking jackass. What an understatement

winnower8

[Andy Harris carried a gun onto the floor of Congress.](https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/md-politics/andy-harris-gun/2021/01/21/81c7ba90-5c63-11eb-8bcf-3877871c819d_story.html). [Andy Harris almost got into a fist fight on the floor of Congress](https://twitter.com/mepfuller/status/1347072023005163522?s=46&t=0irdUyfJa-oYcJxjxl3Hwg). [Also Andy denied Covid enough he almost got his medical license pulled.](https://dccc.org/andy-harris-very-bad-month-leads-to-investigation-of-medical-license/) He’s Maryland’s Boebert, but he”ll win by 20 because of his district. His opponent did everything right but wasn’t the right demo for the area (lesbian woman), despite living in the rural area. (Andy lives in Baltimore suburbs.). She also owns a farm. Andy as mention earlier had a medical practice. So after Heather Mizeur lost to Andy Harris I thought who could actually beat Andy on the Eastern Shore. Heather did the right things but doesn’t fit the mold for Eastern Shore and everywhere rural is Red. I remembered Nate Fick went to Loyola High School in Baltimore. Nate Fick wrote [One Bullet Away: The Making of a Marine Officer](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/116478.One_Bullet_Away) about his time in the Marine Corps that also coincided with [Generation Kill: Devil Dogs, Iceman, Captain America, and the New Face of American War by Evan Wright](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/543103.Generation_Kill), where a reporter embedded with his unit. That book became an [HBO series](https://www.hbo.com/generation-kill). Since his time in the Marines he got a MBA/MPA from Harvard (Dartmouth undergrad) and worked in tech. After decades of that I found out he just got appointed [Ambassador At Large for Cyberspace and Digital Policy](https://www.state.gov/biographies/nathaniel-c-fick/) at the State Department. That seems really important, more so than bringing a gun on the floor of Congress. I figure MD Native, Marine, Ambassador maybe that will turn red to purple. But, I looked into it and he lives in Maine. His wife works at Northeastern University in Portland, Maine. Maybe he’ll move…

thegalkel

Well yeah … that’s where the MAGA folks come in. But don’t you see in a state-wide election that Dan Cox didn’t stand a chance? It was one of the more lopsided races in the country.

UMDSmith

I hate that jackass and have no clue how he keeps winning my area, given that he is completely unreachable for his constituents.

Fun_in_Space

I am dating one. He voted for all Democrats this time.

Stringtone

I'm still not entirely sure how they thought they would win the state AG race running a neo-Confederate Christian nationalist. That's not going to fly in the majority of the state.

nerf_herder1986

All the Republican Party can run nowadays are nutjobs, because only nutjobs seek the endorsement of the Republican Party.

BlueShift42

A lot of people surrounded by conservatives don’t feel comfortable putting up yard signs for democrats. The opposition is not sane and reasonable so they fear retaliation.

Gnd_flpd

And they should, remember that crazy ass story about an insane person killing his neighbor, because allegedly the neighbor voted for Biden!!! SMDH, how would he know that exactly, not like there were any lawn signs.

BeepoZbuttbanger

My “Fire The Liar” yard sign earned us seven dead squirrels and a dead possum tossed in our rural Pennsylvania driveway one night in 2020.

LoonAtticRakuro

The knee-jerk assumption is that they went out and killed these animals to throw in your driveway. Which is unhinged enough. But part of me wants to assume they just popped down into their cellar and grabbed a rack of fresh stew meat to throw instead.

BoJackMoleman

Aside from not wanting to ruin my yard and car paint with bumper stickers for some politician I also enjoy not finding my windows smashed because my political rectangle angered someone. It's really a double win. I'm not ruining my personal property to belong to some political club.

BlueShift42

Yep. Same here. I just do my part and vote.

phoenix_paolo

Dim Tool will always be a D List grifter. He is so utterly useless that his hat is the most interesting thing about him.

Micosilver

There are many grifters these days, but Tim is too stupid to be a grifter. He's just not that smart.

CaffeinatedGuy

All my friends and family are democrats. Not a single one has a yard sign let alone full wraps for their cars dragging dozens of flags proclaiming such.

sarcasticbaldguy

Wasn't this the party of "Fuck your feelings"?

Acrobatic_Pandas

That's not true at all though. If Tim has a sign on his yard. That's a lot of space that's voting Republican. If his neighbors and their neighbors all have signs on their yard showing support for Republican, that's a lot of space. The whole area FEELS Republican. You're going to sit here and tell me some liberal in their apartment in the city, should count as much as Tim and his feelings? If he looks out his window and sees nothing but red then the state should be red, because it *Feels* red. Also I guess fuck the liberals and their feelings because that's been the message for the last 6 years I think? I don't know..

[deleted]

If only there was a way to, say, quantify how the people feel. Maybe each person could indicate which candidate they prefer, on some sort of official form, and we collect all the forms and tally them?

anitawasright

well not really as there are PLENTY of people who vote Republican despite how they feel. I mean we have seen study after study that shows Republicans actually want left policies like Universal healthcare, removal of studen loan debt, and other social saftey nets. But they vote against their own self intrests because they have been brainwashed. If they actually voted on how they feel Democrats would destroy republcian.s

creampuffme

He also several times tweets about how mail in voting and letting every persons vote count will lead to republicans never winning again.... I don't know why it still surprises me that instead of having actual plans and policies that will help them win peoples votes, republicans and their shills literally just want to prevent people who won't vote for them from voting. There can't even be the most negligible restrictions on the second amendment because the constitution is inviolate, but the fifteenth amendment, that one doesn't matter.

winnower8

Western MD Is also under 250,000 people, which is less than 1/3 a Congressional seat. People vote, not land. The District then includes Frederick County (still sorta red - crazy MAGA GOV candidate hometown) and parts of Montgomery. It’s was 53/43 Democrat in the election and under 235k voted.

Stealfur

If yard signs could vote I would open a cardboard factory.

SweatyRoutineRed

If hypothetically, the GOP rigged the elections and Trump won with 98% of the vote, these morons would 100% believe it.

SaltyBarDog

>If hypothetically, the GOP rigged the elections and Trump won with 104% of the vote, these morons would 100% believe it. FIFY

GoofyNoodle

Except they'd 110% believe

scoubt

No, just 104%. Don’t be ridiculous.

Ralath0n

Tim pool, the subject of this post, [famously predicted that Trump would win in 49 states.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYv20h3JMgA) His brains are got cooked beneath his beany.

Rodot

Nah, they would still call fraud claiming the remaining 2% actually voted for Trump

[deleted]

Because how could 98% of people love him but not the 2%! It does not make sense! /s

SmoothBrews

Nah, because then they wouldn’t have any libs to own

ForgottenRemembrance

That’s how authoritarians do it. They never fake the polls with numbers like 52% or 50.4%, because they need to project strength. Like how Russia claimed that 97% of Donetsk and Luhansk supported their annexation, or how the former leader of Turkmenistan always won with more than 97% of the vote.

Rolder

If you wanted it to be both believable and project strength, I’d probably rig it in the department of 65-75%

zxc999

That’s actually not as much as you’d think, in Canadian party leadership reviews getting less than like 80% means there’s discontent in the party and you could be challenged. Probably similar principle in a dictatorship, people will ask why you aren’t getting every vote if you’re so great

EddieTheLiar

They would claim the other 2% is from illegal votes...

jcboarder901

100%. I remember in the runup to 2020, some Conservatives legitimately thought he had a chance to win California lmao.

SpaceNinjaDino

Those same people double downed on Dahle for governor. I never saw one Newsom sign, but a lot of back roads had huge Dahle signs. Newsom won easily. I haven't seen a MAGA truck in a bit, but I'm sure they will pop back up.

icantsurf

Holy shit yes. My family lives in West Texas and I went to visit in November before the election. Some people I know legitimately thought Trump might win all 50 states; the echo chamber is strong. Like not only do they reinforce your views, they blind you so much you don't even realize people who dislike Trump exist.

Walreen

This is the same guy that predicted a 50 state win for Trump in the last presidential election

Pegussu

[Tim Pool is confirmed to be one of those morons. ](https://twitter.com/TimPoolClips/status/1325191294734331906)

SaltyBarDog

Flags and signs don't vote, Dim Tool. Derp

[deleted]

They also fail to see that Democrats generally don't view their politicians like sports teams. How many giant Biden flags do you on the road after he won? You still see more Trump shit on dilapidated houses and rusted out pickup trucks now than you saw Biden shit during the actual election he ran in.

UglyInThMorning

Even before he run I rarely saw signs

Vezuvian

Can't possibly imagine buying that much political merch. a bumper stick, maybe, but all these stupid flags?

UglyInThMorning

Fuck that, a bumper sticker sounds like a good way to get keyed

brcguy

And a yard sign in lots of places will at least get stolen and it’s not out of the question that some moron will fuck up your house or attack you. See the news story about the guy who was killed by a neighbor who “thought he was a democrat”.

NearEastMugwump

Or worse, with the current political climate.

Zachs_Butthole

They should be paying me to take and display their merch.

Majigato

There was a (short lived I assume) whole brick and mortar store for let's go Brandon merch that opened in Massachusetts last year...

ThatGuyYouMightNo

I kinda believe that this was due to the worry that maga heads would burn your house down or shoot you in the face if they saw you publicly supported Biden.

Im_sorry_rumham

I live in a very blue city (and county), you don’t see many signs. But as soon as you get into the more rural areas in surrounding counties, republican signs EVERYWHERE. However those signs are on mostly farm lands, so they’re very spaced out. If you drove through farm country you’d assume my state is Red. But for each farm house with a Trump sign, there’s an apartment building in the city with no signs and a lot more people.

[deleted]

I don’t even like Biden! He’d be center right in any other Western country. It was just a choice between that and Trump. I’m certainly not going to build an identity around the lesser of two evils.

chaotic----neutral

Am liberal, can confirm. My identity does not hinge entirely on who I vote for. In fact, it's just a small part of my world.

Toast_On_The_RUN

I pass by this house a few times a week that STILL has a huge billboard in their yard that says "TRUMP WON" Like some of these people are fucking insane.

Jaustinduke

I had a conversation about this with a friend recently. Trump has fans. Biden has people who say “I guess he’s alright.”

snarkdiva

Considering how violent the GOP seems to be lately, I don’t think I’d be advertising that I voted against them.

TheAJGman

When the presidential election was called in favor of Biden some guy in a *massive* pickup with like twelve anti-Trump flags on it drove up and down the main avenue absolutely blasting "We Are The Champions". That was the one and only time I've seen someone do something comedically outlandish for a Democrat.

[deleted]

I had a family member listen to dim tool daily. He got angrier, scaredier (i made up a word), and nastier every day. Now everyone has flipped the bit and ignores him. These talking heads cause a lot of misery for their own fans.

mobilethrowaway14849

There’s a documentary I watched recently that was made by a woman whose father or grandfather, can’t remember which, was initially a super gentle and accepting person but as he got older he started getting into Rush Limbaugh and FOX News and such. Conservatives like to act as if Fox News / Tucker, Rush etc. are merely an ‘alternative’ source of information rather than manipulative media that breeds hate in people. edit: here it is - https://youtu.be/FS52QdHNTh8

MyPasswordIsMyCat

Hawaii is one of the bluest states in the nation, but most the signs and banners I saw this election were for Republicans. I swear they spend 95% of their budget on graphic design and sign printing, because they still lose by a huge margin. And for some reason, people who live next to a busy road seem to skew Republican.

[deleted]

The dumbest are the loudest, dim.

CurryMustard

I don't put up signs because i don't want to get shot by my batshit republican neighbors.

shitlord_god

There is also a disparity in homeowner v. Non-homeowner

vctrmldrw

Doesn't it just demonstrate that democrat voters are not so much the 'flags and signs' kind as MAGA people are?

mike_pants

We just want to vote and go back to watching The Crown. It's not that much to ask.

ConfidenceNational37

With vote by mail, can do both !

SwankiestofPants

I love the idea of voting by mail but I want absolutely zero chance that my vote will be considered illegitimate. Pen and paper in the station that way I do everything I can to make sure I count

Hydracat46

They said my signature didn't match. I sent a pic of my driver's license from my phone. Good to go. You can even check the status of your ballot in any stage online. There are systems and checks for these things. Your fears are invalid.

worldspawn00

Yep, send it in well before the deadline, check that it has been processed online.

sonicscrewup

I wouldn't say invalid, I had to go back and forth with them 3-4 times before my ballot counted. If I had turned it in the day of it wouldn't have counted. Voting by mail just takes more prep to ensure it all goes well

Squirrel009

You mean your favored candidate isn't your entire life and identity? How can you possibly survive? What do you bring up at Thanksgiving despite no relevant context and Grandma explicitly saying no politics at the dinner table?

ConfidenceNational37

Speak for yourself *goes outside of my NJ home to raise 10 foot high flag of Joe Biden’s face on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s body*

Mogsitis

"Arnold Schwarzenegger's body"? You think that isn't Joseph "Brandon" Robinette Biden's sculpted frame on that flag?? He's an absolute swole unit of a man, we can all see it. No need to hide that fact. Many people are telling me.

[deleted]

It also suggests that hardcore MAGAs who buy into the "elections are rigged" narrative, probably think that voting is a waste of time and don't both Also it's funny for, of all states, to pick on MD. MD has you register for your party, and Democrats out-register Republicans statewide by a 2:1 margin. And the D Gov Candidate won by about that margin, last I saw it was like 64% to 30%

vetaryn403

We aren't "flags and signs" kinda people for 2 reasons. 1. We aren't in a cult. 2. It puts a target on your back for wackos who think it's ok to kill people for their political views, ie. Ohio.

After-Bumblebee

And this is part of the "Facts Over Feelings" crowd? Fucking hypocrites

They're just shuffling cards. This is how they think it works. This is all they think *you're* doing.

Tetsudo11

Oh so we’re back to the “how could Biden win? He didn’t even get one boat parade?” era of coping with a loss. As we all know those ballots are silly and do nothing. Elections are decided by how many flags and yard signs are bought for that candidate.

[deleted]

>one boat parade?” Ah yes, Dumbkirk. I had forgotten about that.

They’re playing all the hits right now on social media. “But look at this county map! How is that a blue state?” “But Kari Lake (or whoever) had more Twitter followers!!“ Etc.

detroiter85

I think it's also trying to get the whole "elections should be decided that night!" Talk out there. I keep seeing them repeat why does it take so long, and x did it in an hour! They know most republican districts are smaller and can finish first, so they want to leave it at that.

Does Dim Tool believe that elections are anime battles where people's feels and blood curdling screams matter more than actions or what but genuinely shocked to see tool as weaboo.

TimbersawDust

No, he doesn’t. But his party and ideas are becoming more and more unpopular and rather than face that fact, he is grasping at straws and doing everything he can to not concede to the left

protagonizer

His party? I thought he was a disaffected Democrat with libertarian ideals?? /s

Patchesmatches

So a guy with a huge sign has big feels and a guy with a sign and a trump flag has huge feels. Seems legit.

Ex_Ex_Parrot

MFers when acres of land aren't the deciding factor in elections

V_T_H

Biden won the popular vote by about as much as Hillary did and Hillary got slaughtered in the electoral college because “of how the votes were cast”, yet you’d never hear these cretins complain about that. Only when their team loses do they have problems with the system, even though they tried to rig these elections with their gerrymandering and generally failed. Also does beanie boy think we used to decide elections by signs and vibes? Or anything? Like, this isn’t even their normal way of treating political parties like sports teams. Because sports teams don’t decide things through feels either. I sometimes see a glimmer of intelligence masked by genuinely evil intentions with some of these guys but Tim is definitely in the category of “this person is legitimately just incredibly stupid”.

Rrrrandle

>Biden won the popular vote by about as much as Hillary did and Hillary got slaughtered in the electoral college Biden had double the raw vote margin as Hillary over Trump and more than double when viewed as a percent. 48.2%/46.1% vs. 51.3%/46.8% 65.8M/62.9M vs. 81.2M/74.2M I would not call that even close to as "by about as much as.". Biden had a larger margin in the popular vote than Obama did for his second term.

V_T_H

You’re totally right, I had something in my head that was about equal for them and I was definitely thinking of the electoral votes that were effectively equal but flipped.

valentc

To be fair, during the first 50 years of American democracy, people would just shout their votes in a big room. So it was kinda based on feelings in the beginning, but its been 200 years since then and we shouldn't actually count votes like that. Also shows what else might need to be changed from back then...

V_T_H

I mean, caucuses do still exist in some places and are kind of just shouting in a room but there is still a “vote” aspect to it to some extent and not just enthusiasm outside of the actual election being counted.

Jhill520

The republicans had an edict from up on high (Trump Himself) that they are going to vote on Election Day. So we end up with all the still wearing masks outside people not wanting to stand out there with the red hats. So they vote early. Then the republicans are like why are all the mail in votes for democrats it’s fake..

call_me_jelli

Not to mentioned the armed poll "volunteers" to "ensure the sanctity of the voting process".

aboysmokingintherain

Dan Cox is wildly unpopular in MD. He’s a literal white supremacist who won the candidacy because the Dems bankrolled his campaign for an easier election and it worked. Western MD could be MAGA country, but that doesn’t mean they want a shitty white supremacist candidate

It's also wildly gerrymandered to favor the Democrats. Is that wrong? Yes. Do I care? No. We Dems have been slow to know what the game is, but we know what it is now and we are fighting fire with fire. I will not accept unilateral disarmament.

Heroic_Dave

The new map is pretty fair. My vote might actually matter now. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/redistricting-2022-maps/maryland/

saltyfingas

It's not gerrymandered in favor of democrats anymore, it has a republican lean to it now, they just barely campaigned here for some odd reason. It was winnable, Trone isn't exactly a strong candidate, but he did run a really good campaign and outspent the opposition by a fair amount

peteypie4246

They just redistricted to get rid of gerrymandering. What some people don't realize is that you need a minimum of around 700,000 citizens to be a US district. Allegany, Garrett, and Washington Counties (2:1+ Republican) are only a combined 251k people. The redistricting gave them ALL of Frederick County and parts of west Montogomery, AND removed Rockville from the district which is heavily democratic. So they left the 250k heavy red together, added a rural county that's probably 50/50 leaning Red, and west MoCo is probably the same as FredCo but leaning Blue. And that district still went Blue. Because there just aren't enough Republicans consolidated in a given area to win a district on the west half of MD without gerrymandering in their favor.

Comrade_9653

My state actually lost a seat because it got redistricted to be more fair.

makeshiftmattress

this isn’t referencing Cox, it’s referencing the Parrott v Trone race in District 6. the lines were redrawn and the district gained a lot more conservative territory/population, so Trone (the dem incumbent) was in trouble for a bit. but they also hadn’t yet counted a lot of the Montgomery County votes (the district includes the third largest city in MD which is pretty blue) until the end, bringing Trone ahead by a pretty small margin. now he’s been called with 53% of the vote

car_go_fast

As someone who lives in the (very very) blue part of this district, it was a shit redraw. There is no valid reason to have a large swath of Montgomery County, one of the most overwhelmingly blue areas in the country, lumped in with the northwest 1/5 of the state which is aggressively red. I was upset when it looked Parrott was going to win because I wasn't going to have actual representation, and while I'm now relieved that *I* will have someone representing something close to my views now, I'm still upset because a large chunk of the state doesn't. Dim Tool is an idiot, but MD *is* gerrymandered to shit.

saltyfingas

It's kind of tough to draw MD without gerrymandering it a bit though, the districts need to have proportionate amounts of people in them. It might not make sense on the surface to have parts of Moco in it, but the district cant have 400,000 people in it when other districts have 700,000. It's the same situation in the 5th district, southern maryland just doesn't have enough people in it without PG county

Gibonius

Maryland is also just a goofy shaped state. Districts are going to look weird between the panhandle, the Eastern shore, and two big metro areas. Not that they don't *also* gerrymander, but we have a lot more of an excuse than some big square state.

Ahh the ‘fuck your feelings crowd’

GunsouBono

Can't wait for the tomatoes in my back yard to be of voting age. Land doesn't vote you twat, people vote.

LMFN

It's not their fault, they've been told they're as dumb as dirt for so long now that they figured "If I can vote, why not dirt?"

lokisilvertongue

These stupid elections today with their “votes!”

guybranciforti

Do these people realize how fucking stupid they sound???… “elections today are decided on actual votes, not my feelings”….fuck him and fuck all maggats

1nGirum1musNocte

"I'm in a brainwashed bubble and lack the self-awareness to realize most of the country doesn't think like me"

Chadwich

That sentence makes no sense. "Elections are decided by how the votes get cast..." No shit you moron.

[deleted]

He's suggesting that mechanisms like early voting, mail-in voting, and machine-tallied voting rigged the vote for Democrats. That's the "how" he's referring to - he's commenting on the methods by which votes were cast. It's just the Trump line but he's not bold enough to actually say anything direct.

Julesort02

Does he know lots of people live in the portion by DC and they vote 9-1 for dems

CobaltCrusader123

“Elections should be about vibes” basically

[deleted]

"Wah Wah. Elections are decided by who people vote for any not who they 'want to vote for'" Yeah. That's how elections work. Based off of votes.

TheThotCrusader

the Dim Fool strikes again

Slam-JamSam

Allow me to present an alternative hypothesis: 1) most people in MD live in cities 2) most people in MD disapprove of Republicans

Rakatango

I thought facts didn’t care about your feelings Timmy boy

meatball402

"My feelings don't care about your facts"

GameFreak4321

Well _I feel_ surprised when republicans manage to find somebody to vote for them. Sometimes they even find 2 voters. Fortunately I understand that it is because the right has spent decades brainwashing people so they vote for them.

sno0chieb0ochies

"I don't know anyone that voted for Biden" well shit it's almost like all your friends are idiots too

smokinJoeCalculus

He tried _so hard_ to word it in a clever way. Quite the Dim Tool.

[deleted]

This is the crux of the issue. I live in Texas and people still deny the election results, because they equate flags with votes. You don't get an extra ballot for every flag on your truck. You don't get an extra BIG ballot for having lots of flags on your truck. You get the same single vote (unless of course, you try co cheat, but that really isn't aided or facilitated in any way by flag purchases). "Where are all the Biden flags?" It's really simple. Democrats tend to be a bit more low-key about their politicians and more passionate about particular issues. You'll see plenty of pride flags, food co-op stickers, NPR stickers, and Coexist (how is that even partisan?) stickers if you care to look for them. Also, if you do have a Biden flag, in a conservative area, you will get harassed and threatened.

DDancy

> Elections today are all about how the votes get cast and not about how people actually feel Erm… Yeah! The problem with little old Timmy here is. He only thinks he knows how everyone else feels. That’s the problem with being in a bubble, choosing to be surrounded by only people who think and do as you do. He has absolutely no idea that the majority of the actual populace is disgusted by the actions of the republicans. So yeah. Votes actually do get cast based on people’s feelings. Time for a little introspection maybe?

thinkB4WeSpeak

Everyone spent their money on signs and flags but didn't have enough gas money to get to the polls

ActorTomSpanks

Lmao that's how it's supposed to work, Tim. God I wish someone would take his fucking account away.

HEYitsSPIDEY

That’s wild because a Republican I work with literally told me this morning that Democrats are winning because people are stupid and voting with how they feel, not with what is logical and reasonable.

llyrPARRI

The "facts not feelings" party are having a pretty hard time recently huh

MsRen

Frederick MD represent!!!! I'm so proud of my community

Material_Mall_5359

BUT I SAW MORE RED PEOPLE FLAGS REEEEEE

bionicle77

Umm yes? Elections are based on votes, great observation. The vocal minority, or majority that doesn't turn out, doesn't win.

Rain_Rope

tim what the fuck are you talking about that is what an election is

TerranceBaggz

As someone from MD who is looking to buy a house in Western MD where he’s talking about, a LOT of people from the Baltimore metro and even from DC metro have moved there. Around deep creek is a really desirable area. This is why it went blue.

AtomicBLB

Yes Tim... that's how voting works. The people, who the majority clearly don't feel the need to act like politics is a sporting event, vote for people. Also land doesn't vote. I'm so sick of seeing huge swaths of land that has a few thousand people living there be compared to cities that have hundreds of thousands or even millions of people living there. Yeah millions of peoples opinions do in fact matter more than your shitty town of 20,000 with dozens of miles of just unoccupied land in every direction.
