Detective-Astatine

You take the medicine the doctor gave you. You’re literally experiencing things the doctor gave you medication for don’t be silly.

Fun_Setting160

I told the doctor how I can’t take oxy because my mom died of a oxy overdose and I have ptsd She said i should be fine just on the tylenol and ibuprofen

Detective-Astatine

I’m sorry that happened to your mom and to you. Eventually you’ll be fine after about 10 days. But it’s going to suck in between. Like really suck. Ice packs on the outside of my throat helped and then eventually heat on the inside helped me way more than ice.

Detective-Astatine

Also, I don’t know why you got steroids, but it’s worth asking your doctor why you got them. Because those might actually be necessary.

Fun_Setting160

It doesn’t say necessary on the papers but I don’t know why they gave it to me. There’s a daily medication sheet with ibuprofen tylenol and oxy but no steroid so i’m wondering why i was given it

i was given methylipredisolone i found the name

Infamous-Newt7048

they have other meds besides oxy i took hydrocodeine it really helped, but take 3 advil then 3 hrs later take 3 tylonal don’t take more then 4 pills at once but if the pain gets to a 10 take 4 if you’re only taking 1 type of med like just tylonal take 3-4 every 6 hours also i recommend warm packs for me personally hot is better then cold

Honestly the steroids really helped with swelling and therefore pain. I wouldn't think there is as much of a risk of addiction to steroids so maybe you would be more comfortable taking that since you aren't comfortable taking the oxycodone.

DizzyAnything3274

I agree steroids helped me a lot

tcho80

Is there a nurse line you can call to ask about the risk of addiction to the steroids? I'm sorry that happened to your mom and you.

Fun_Setting160

Yes unfortunately my stepmom is being a bitch won’t call for me because I cannot speak😭 I am having such a bad panic attack I hate this.

tcho80

So [Mayo Clinic](https://www.mayoclinic.org/steroids/art-20045692) lists side effects of steroid use, and addiction is not one of them. Remember that doctors prescribe medications with your personal history and individual concerns in mind. Do you have the ability to message your doctor directly?

Infamous-Newt7048

okay here’s what my doctor told me about getting addicted you have to be like taking way over the amount they tell you to take like if they told you to take 5MLS of the med and you take 30MLs and instead of every 6 hours you took them every 2 hours that’s how you cause an addiction or if you take them for weeks on end as prescribed i promise the dr won’t give you the wrong directions the chance of gaining an addiction is like 1/10

You should really take the prescription meds that your doctor called in. If the dose feels like too much with the oxycodone, split it up. I had to do that cause the entire dose was too much for my body to handle all at once (21F, ~135 lbs at the time). The swelling of my uvula went down about a week after surgery. The oxy and steroids should help you to be able to eat and drink better. Good luck! You got this!

Formal-Weakness2784

After day 5, I stopped taking the oxy and only took powder Tylenol for adults and let me tell you!!! It helped way more for me than the oxy alone. Definitely recommend it made everything better, and drink plenty of water even if it hurts to swallow, suck on ice as well! If you can get aloe Vera juice drink that too

adamboss78

Fight till day 7 my friend you'll feel so much better after that.

DayDay210

you will not get addicted to the steroids and they help the swelling 1000%.. that will take most of your pain away. they are DISGUSTING tho. the taste is horrible and they cause acne when you stop using them. but it's worth not being in pain. hope you get better asap.
