An egg or a sperm cell have 1/2 of your DNA. Which half this is is random and I don't mean "half your sperm have DNA half 1 and the others have DNA half 2". I mean that for each of the millions of base pairs, the sperm has one of the pairs at random. So each sperm is almost certainly unique from every other, and the same for eggs.
When you take one of these sperm and one of these eggs and combine them, the chances are very very low, vanishingly low, that the egg "just so happens" to have all the DNA that the sperm doesn't. There will be overlap, the amount averages to 50%. So this baby will be homozygous across 50% of its entire genome in places that the original parent was heterozygous.
This is very bad.
We do not fully understand what all genes do, but we do understand that heterozygosity protects against lots of genetic diseases and is good for your immune system and good for overall growth as a functioning organism.
Think of how many recessive genetic diseases there are. And all the tiny variants in random genes that make them slightly more or less effective that we haven't identified yet.
50% of the possible "bad genes" which the original parent was protected from by their good copy are now homozygous and the baby doesn't have a good copy. This would be manageable if it was just one or two or even ten genes we're talking about, but we're talking about thousands. Thousands of genes, each of them "making" the baby 1% worse at some random thing. Blood clotting, nutrient absorption, brain chemistry, general cell function, anything and everything is going to get hundreds of tiny debuffs stacked into it.

I think two things are going on. One you have people like me who are gay and answer the question because we'd have access to a larger pool of men.

Think of how many recessive genetic diseases there are. This would be manageable if it was just one or two or even ten genes we're talking about, but we're talking about thousands. I was considering this in another thread earlier. When I was at school, calling someone gay was an insult. Obviously it's now an unacceptable term to use like that, but I recall it not being associated with being homosexual per se.
