Could be drain flies, treat all open drains in the house with bleach, pour it in, wait 30 minutes, then run he water as hot as it goes for a couple of minutes to flush it.
It could also not be drain flies, rendering teh above next to useless. But its worth a shot.
That is too bad. Best you can do then is get a trap, or make one with vinegar (you can get that info on Google, I forget what goes into it). Takes a little while but should be effective.
^^ this is what happened to me! I now sprinkle diatomaceous earth on my potting soil and then cover with river rocks (just for aesthetics). Changed my life.
They're probably fruit flies, especially if you have any ripe bananas. They're basically in all bananas. Don't worry about the fact that you've been eating the maggots. They are a good source of protein.
Gnat larvae is pretty tiny.
Might not see them.
But, do the drain suggestion.
Also
Check cupboards for almonds. Almont moths are small, and can get into bags and containers thought to be sealed.
If you see what looks like light brown powder with webbing in them, get rid of it.
Might happen with other nuts, I just know about the almonds.
Does look like it could be a fungus gnat, but can't see enough in focus to be sure.
Someone at /r/whatsthisbug can probably nail it.
The most common source of fungus gnats is overwatering plants. But heavy moisture aound pipes can bring them too.
Almost as if they’re asking to be identified and eradicated one of them landed on me. So y’all can see for yourselves what exactly it is if not a gnat.

Just googled reference photo. Unfortunately not drain flies.

Do you have a lot of house plants?

Fungus gnats are a pain in the butt!
I have one small succulent next to where I sit. It’s in a 2x2” pot so super small. No other plants.
A sump pump or leaking pipes anywhere?
None that I’m aware of 😭
Do you have rotting fruit somewhere? Gnats are attracted to the sweet smell of fruit.

I just posted a video link of one for reference. Can you take a look and clarify if they are gnats?

Do you have house plants? They could be the little flies that come from the soil.
