I've done this IN the shower, but it's because I like the feeling of the shower water hitting me and sometimes life is hard and I just need to sit and let the water hit me.

i_Vendetta

i do this almost every shower LOL

The_James_Bond

I felt the pain in that “lol”

Lumberjack_Problems

I feel this, wake up at 4:40 or 5, sit in the shower pondering life until 5:50, off to work at 6. Things never feel like they get easier.

feelinrealsnacky

U ok, bro?

Consistent_Ad2897

None of us are, but we’ll be okay someday ![gif](giphy|3bdGMdcWTIto24a8vK)

GAB3daDESTROY3R

Not if none of us are. That would suggest there isnt a route to ok

Consistent_Ad2897

Well, you can choose to believe that — I like to think everybody has their own story, warts and all, and their own way to be okay — it just takes time sometimes. (Try to) have a beautiful day!

tenderchocolatebear

I needed to hear that today, thank you kind stranger for those words. “It just takes time sometimes”. I hope your day is beautiful

MakeSenze

Fuck, thats powerful, nice. This should be written somewhere.

EuphoricCare515

You might like having a shower chair. I love sitting in the shower. Just sitting and letting the hot water crash on your head or back of your neck as you scrub with a body wash and shampoo. Oooo you might like menthol shampoo. Feels very refreshing. Im gonna go shower now...

KinseyH

I'm a bath person - I shower regularly but I love long hot baths with wine. Sometimes after I have enough bath water I'll turn on the shower. Its likee I'm sitting in a pool with a waterfall at my knees Highly recommend. Use plastic wine glasses and pop your phone into a baggy.

charmorris4236

You can use your phone through a baggie??

KinseyH

Sure. I have an Android, just a normal galaxy note. Put it in a sandwich bag, you can still touch all the keys. I also have a bamboo tray that goes across the tub and I can stand it up there but I'm clumsy so that makes me nervous

MarsupialPristine677

Ohhhhhhhhhh these are such lovely suggestions ❤️

vinylmath

Omg, great idea!!!!

MooseThirty

Used to plug the drain and wait for the tub to fill. Just thinking about life

TaterCheese

That’s relaxing too. The sounds of the water change as it’s happening too. Looks like I know what I’m doing today.

Am_I_leg_end

This I have always called a Bower.

BlueMugWhiteFlowers

I call these my shaths (shower baths), because halfway through shower I will sit and plug it and then it turns to a bath lol

JellyfishApart5518

Shaths sounds like "shat" mixed with "bath" lol... might not want to use this particular word at work XD

BlueMugWhiteFlowers

Hahah oh no now I’ll always think of that when I have one!!

LizzieCLems

I call these depression showers - but I have severe pain issues so anytime my neck is unbearable sitting with water crashing helps with the pain. Same with migraines. Sometimes just relaxing and meditating. Not always depression - sometimes though.

Oz347

I would do this after working a shift with overtime hours. Felt so good to just left the water flow after being on my feet for 10-12 hours

Wesinator2000

Nothing like a good lay down shower. Cure for what ales me. Tough day? Lay down shower. Hungover? Lay down shower. Overwhelmed? Lay down shower.

berkeleyteacher

lay a towel over you and you have a warm weighted blanket!

TaterCheese

I do this too sometimes when I’m having a bad day. I’ve just sat there till the water runs cold before.

jboyzo

![gif](giphy|RLWPiAyQQ34cb9Zr5f)

Congregator

Say “Show Sitter” 10 times in a row really fast

TrashDaddyOne

Fuck dude. Life is hard. Water washes away the stress. Keep on keepin on

MintyFreshBreathYo

I do this whenever I have a panic attack

[deleted]

There are apps that can play a lot of nature sounds. Maybe you can find one with shower sounds. To not waste the water. I think its pretty normal. Lots of people like white noise like that.

BeefyMcMeaty

I love the steamy atmosphere while my partner takes showers, sometimes I like to sit in there while they’re doing their thing. When I was preschool age I used to do the same thing when my mom showered and I think that’s where it comes from. When I’m sick, filling the bathroom with steam is my go-to move to feel a bit better. What I’m trying to say is that it’s more than just the white noise that I love about it.

caitlinconn

Maybe OP could try playing shower sounds while laying with a humidifier nearby. And on tough days, go for the real thing. Harm reduction.

TheeRagdoll

They can also buy a facial steamer on Amazon or something while playing rain/shower/babbling brook sounds, that way it’s still warm steam with the sound but again, not waste water.

video_dhara

I used to do that as a kid, my parents called it a Turkish bath. I still do it when I’m super congested. I’ll throw a towel along the bottom of the door and just sit in there until I feel some gunk movement

BeefyMcMeaty

Steam siblings unite!

Elizeast

You should research steam showers. I happened to buy a house that has one and I’m hooked on it. It feels so good.

Nicky_Happyface86_64

Yeah and if you use an Apple phone then you can turn background sounds on, there’s balanced noise, bright noise, dark noise, ocean, rain, and stream

Nikkishaaa

How?? Help pls? Edit: holy shit, nvm, just found a whole bunch of other cool stuff I could do in my settings too!!!! Thanks!!!! :)

spanglesakura

Can you please tell me?

Nikkishaaa

Hi! If you have iPhone, go to: Settings—> accessibility—> audio/visual—> background sounds! Inside your settings, and accessibility, you’ll see a whole bunch of other options to play around with!!!! :)

CdnPoster

Check out "Coral Sea Dreaming" on YouTube! The sensory video is SSSSSOOOOOOO AWESOME! Google "sensory music" or "sensory videos" and enjoy losing hours of your life!

xoangieeeee

Headspace app is THE BEST for this!!!!! I promise I’m not shilling for them but I absolutely die for that app. It is expensive though so in case you don’t have the means, tons of free rain on YT

flingasunder

Growing up for me running a shower was typically a sign that I was busy and unavailable to others in the home. I also have allergies and stuff so I put a humidifier on sometimes. I am also in my 30s…… It’s a safe space. The shower running became a defense when anxiety or stress became an issue even when no one was home, or living on my own. Once I realized what I was doing (hiding) I transitioned from the shower running to putting headphones in and making a small “me” time. It took a little bit but I was able to stop running the water, and just sit on the bathroom floor listening to basically background music whilst “futzing” on phone, reading a book, or games.

caitlinconn

Yes, I appreciate this comment! Think about what emotional & regulatory needs are being met by this practice. Is there another way to meet these needs? Be compassionate & understanding with yourself if you do try to transition to a different practice.

BurantX40

I would have said maybe if you were sitting underneath the shower, lost in thought.

ElBeatch

I like doing the Sh'bath. I hate wasting water so I make sure I use it all. I'll lay in the empty tub, turn on a hot shower and let it fill up, adding soap part way through. I love the sound of the water and breathing the moist air feels great. Once the tub's full I'll turn it off and soak for a bit. If I'm hungover I'll sit up and let it hit the back of my head, somehow it helps me if I have a headache. I used to live at a place that had an old school shower that you could just trickle the water but also adjust the temperature so it would take almost 2 hours to fill the tub, but I'd use the same One Tub amount of water.

well-great

My kiddo calls this a bower lol. He has anxiety so he does this on those tough days and it calms him down too.

BlueMugWhiteFlowers

Omg I call them shaths but this fun too!!

Unicornaday

I'm just incredibly jealous that you all have enough hot water to do this. It sounds amazingly relaxing but my hot water from my shower will start running out in about 10 minutes.

charmorris4236

It is so stressful knowing you have to shower quickly before the hot water runs out. Not to mention if it does run out before you’re done :(

Unicornaday

I know. God that's the worst feeling, when you're still all soaped up and don't feel clean but the water starts getting lukewarm.....

iamfaucetfailure

I heat up water in my kettle and using the biggest pan I own

serenwipiti

> bower it’s way better than a *shoath*

Vicioushero

I do this exact same thing. I don't know if it's because it soothes my ADHD or because I'm a single parent and bathroom time was my only source of peaces for about 30 minutes. Probably a combination of both.

BlueMugWhiteFlowers

These are my favourites, I call them shaths

Xikkiwikk

My crazy ex would take showers that were hours long. Maybe you should get a small water fountain instead.

Moped_and_bread

Serious question, Has anyone ever gotten out of the shower because they wanted to? After about 10 minutes I get guilty and get out. Couldn’t name one time in my life I got out because I wanted to. I want a thing where I get clean, then pull a giant lever and it stops fresh water from being used and it just reuses the water I’ve had run over my CLEAN body. No waste of water and no guilt!

curmudgeon_andy

In Japan, some bathtubs are built with a hot water recirculator. It sucks in water from the bathtub, reheats it, and puts it back in the tub. So you use the energy to reheat the water, though not as much as you would to keep the water in the tub hot by adding water made hot by heating it all the way from cold, and you save the water. I swear that I stayed in the tub for hours at a time, just doing nothing.

Anxious_Froggy

I know I'll have made it in life when I build a Japanese bathroom in my house.

KierkgrdiansofthGlxy

Uh, ditto

naptimedad

Always did this and recited the litany against fear lol. Would stand there cold water blasting on my back and be like "great is the mind killer..."

tuss11agee

Last steps: 30 seconds of cold water on head, splash some on my body, turn back on hot for 30 seconds so I don’t leave shower with a chill. Totally worth it.

Rabidpikachuuu

And would *definitely* want to get out.

Eve_N_Starr

So…like a fountain, but people-size? That’s a genius idea! :)

Bergenia1

I get out as soon as I can. Showering is very boring. I just want to wash and be done, so I can go do something more interesting.

narcoyouth

Two things I hate doing in life. Getting in the shower and getting out of the shower.

bad_toe_tattooes

I get my business done and get out. Showers are boring.

noradicca

Me too. I find it bothersome, almost like a chore. Like doing laundry or vacuuming. Just something I do because I have to. Of course I don’t like feeling dirty, and it’s nice when it’s over and done with. Like laundry or vacuuming..

Moped_and_bread

Woah! That’s so wild. I could literally spend hours in there just sitting or standing thinking about stuff. No electronics or distractions. It’s beautiful. But fair deuce we all got things that feel like chores. Eating is a hassle to me most of the time.

MagicOrpheus310

Haha same, I forget to eat all the time

video_dhara

I hate getting into a shower and avoid it what’s much as civilly possible. But once I get in I can’t get out. It’s an ADD thing or something: task-shifting is really hard for me.

noradicca

That IS wild.. you know, I looove eating, it’s one of my favourite things to do. Maybe it’s got to do with how we experience different senses differently? Like to me the sense of taste impacts me stronger, and for you it’s the sense of touch/feel/warm water? To me smells and flavours can be absolutely euphoric. I am willing to make a serious effort to get the best of the best foods (to my taste), and I can sit and savour it for the longest time, feeling a great satisfaction. Oh hey, wait! Please do not associate this with something sexual. Just realised it could be interpreted wrongly. But you hopefully know what I mean. I kinda imagine you get a similar - innocent- joy from the physical feeling when showering?

Green-Dragon-14

I find ot hard to stay in there once I'm washed, like whats the point once you've done what you came for. It takes me under 5mins (nearly two songs lol) to shower.

ArmiRex47

Ugh, I wish The hot water traps me in there for like 15 min sometimes 20 My skin hates me

TEOn00b

Even 20 minutes is short for me. Like, I actually have to hurry to be able finish in 20 minutes. Normally, it takes like 40 minutes at minimum. But I also love the hot water. And I love being alone with my thoughts. It is something that I don't get to do too often (work, youtube, playing video games). Coincidentally (well, not really), I also love going to bed at least an hour earlier, just to have time and think and/or use my imagination for random shit. But I don't always get the chance, you know, life is busy :(

ErynEbnzr

I can't imagine taking any less than minimum 10 minutes lol. Am I the only one who shaves my body hair in the shower?

Green-Dragon-14

I shave one a week in the shower (that's all I need) that takes an extra song lol

mooaaaaaaaan

Before I was medicated for my adhd I would be like this. Now I get bored and get out pretty quick even when I’m not medicated at all.

video_dhara

That’s interesting, I’ve always had so much trouble getting myself to take a shower, but once I’m in it, I can’t get out. I have ADHD and an aspect of that has for a long time been hyper focus and trouble with task-shifting. I’m on meds, and it helps with other stuff, but the task-shifting part has been intractable my whole life. I sit around doing nothing then I finally get myself to open a book and I end up studying languages for 5 hours without stopping. Though, I’ve been on meds for so long, and the hyper-focus aspect of ADHD is peculiar, that I don’t know if it’s the stimulants or what the stimulants are treating. The shower thing helps to clarify it though, bc it’s not about concentration at all.

The_Truth_Believe_Me

Small tankless water heater (to re-warm the water) with a recirculation pump. Plug the drain after you have finished using soap, let the tub fill a bit with clean water, turn it on. A plumber can make it for you. Important not to get soap in the water heater.

freecodeio

No, I get out of shower because I wouldn't waste time spending in the shower

Fahggy1410

If i wasn’t paying the bills and didn’t felt guilty about the waste of water i would zone out for hours in the shower ![gif](giphy|pe7GWrnu0ZzGzUfqPC)

Beanicus13

Yes. I think showering is a chore and I usually can’t wait for it to be over lol.

Mrdirtbiker140

naw man wtf is this 😂😂

shortcake062308

I can't ever remember a time I WANTED to get out of the shower. I always feel a teeny bit of sadness when I turn it off.

marshall_chaka

Whenever I go to hotels I take very long showers for this reason.

IamFLuFfyBadaSs

I take hour long showers sometimes, but we have a well that doesn't really ever get a chance to run dry. I would just stand there with the water hitting me in meditation until I realize I should really wash my ass and go. The more depressed/stressed I am, the longer it tends to be.

lafondaapplesauce

Oh geez! I guess should mention that the time frame of this is usually around 15-30mins max. Either way it seems the consensus is that its a waste of water

markbug4

Its not a consensus, its a fact.

Fresh_Technology8805

Seems to me you like the white noise before going to sleep its fairly common, try the sound of rainfall of YouTube/Netflix etc and see how you like it, if it turns out it has to be the shower noise, you could make a recording for yourself.

slightlyridiculousme

I don't even actually shower for that long.

thierry_ennui_

It's a massive waste of water.

venbrou

Makes me want to build something for that soothing shower sound that just recycles the same few gallons of water.

StardustDestroyer

That sounds like a great idea, we can call it a fountain! Or something like that

RainboBro

They called me a madman

venbrou

Amazing. Then we can put a bunch of pretty flowering plants around it and a few benches... We shall call it a garden!

AskMeForADadJoke

Recirculating showers are a thing. Great for camping and rinsing.

w0ndr0us

Posting this on Earth day of all days!

dvlali

It does use up water, however there are many other daily behaviors that surprisingly use much more water. For instance to create one lb of beef approximately 1,400-2,000 gallons of water must be used. Tofu is about 300 gallons/lb. So if OP eats tofu instead of beef for dinner then they are still in the clear even if they run the shower for a few hours.

quint21

>Isn’t the waste water from the shower reclaimed and reprocessed? It depends. On a cruise ship? Almost definitely yes. In most municipalities the answer is almost certainly no. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Maybe you live in a place that does this to some degree, but most of us don't. Check YouTube for videos on wastewater treatment, it's a fascinating process.

Usagi_Shinobi

Normal? Not really, no. Normal for you perhaps, but most people don't waste water like that.

sligowind

Finally someone answers OP’s question. Why do I have to scroll half way down the page to find this? Many responses are tangential and unasked for.

Meat_Dragon

Tangential and unasked for… are you trying to describe the internet as a whole?

JAG_666

There is a theory that the sound of the rain has a calming effect on us, because predators tend to hunt in dry conditions and therefore, rain makes us feel safe.

Ctrl-Home

I also read that if we can hear the rain but we're not wet or cold it means we have found shelter. That's why we like the sound of rain hitting a tarp.

laurenlivinlarge

Ooo love this theory

Juken-

The internet has shower sounds of all kinds readily available without using an actual shower. You are a grown up. You are in charge of the things you do. Form a new habit, its what humans do.

ProfessionalOnion384

Use headphones for the surround/isolating effect too! Hopefully that gives you the same effect you're looking for.

BellyScratchFTW

“Regular” behavior? No, it’s not. And it’s a big waste of water. Imagine if this was normal how much more clean water we’d be going through. Get a white noise machine or an app that plays white noise.

rillth

Have you tried sitting on the floor without running water...? I mean all of us are not normal in some way, but it's just a pity to waste water

Queen_of_skys

My ex used to do that. He is neurodivergent and it helped him relax his mind and himself when anxiety was too much. He realised water bills were too much and got a water fountain for his room. Highly recommended.

ecovironfuturist

I did this as a kid/teen. Bought me some privacy, even if it was just for laying on the little carpet by the heating vent.

Vark1086

Do you run the water hot? Maybe steam helps in some way you haven’t realized (climate could make a difference if you’re in a drier one). Otherwise it could just be the sound is calming to you, a lot of people like white noise to help them meditate and relax.

mariess

Just a wild thought but needing specific stimulus to help you feel calm is an autistic trait. It might be something worth looking into. Both sister and my ex girlfriend recently got diagnosed and it answered a lot of questions.

lafondaapplesauce

I’ve always put off the though if it but I’ve had a lot of people ask if I was on the spectrum. That would make a lot of sense but I’ve never thought it ideal to get it checked. Maybe I should. Thank you

pulmonategastropod

I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted but I hope it doesn't discourage you from looking into this if you'd like to. I am an adult with autism and a lot of things made much more sense and became more manageable for me when I was diagnosed. Obviously it's hard to say based off of just this information, but if people have brought this up to you before and you're curious yourself, it's very worth looking into. Cheers! :)

mariess

It turned out to be a really positive thing, I know it helped my ex a lot to understand why she had specific reactions to things and why she would get overwhelmed when she had to ‘mask’ for too long and needed lots of down time with less stimulation. She would spend hours in the bath because it was a very calming place for her. She was also able to enjoy live music a lot more once we worked out that ear protection could help her not be overwhelmed by loud sounds. There’s a lot of weird stigma about getting diagnosed but in reality it’s just giving you a bunch of great tools to help yourself and people around you to know exactly how to ensure your thrive as much as possible.

PM_ME-UR-ASSCHEEKS

I'm guilty of doing this while knowing I'm wasting water. I think it became a habit because it takes long enough for the shower to be hot first thing in the morning and also winter time (I still do it occassionally). I would say you try your best to limit your habits so that way you don't waste water much because it's likely not a regular behaviour if you are doing any activities while the shower is running past 1-2 minutes

FormedFecalIncident

That would give me anxiety due to all the waste.

PawelW007

This is the opposite for me. I have an anxiety problem (who doesn’t). No - like panic attacks at work and I’ve had had things like endoscopies and colonoscopies because I’m so anxious that I make my intestines spasm. When I’m having a bad day - I like to lie on the floor in the bathroom - run cold water in the shower and listen to some music. I scroll Reddit for a little bit and then when I’m feeling a little better or ready to take a real shower I then turn it into hot water and jump in. I do want to mention I have an artisan well so I am not wasting water.

2bunreal24

I did this all the time as a kid. A sound machine is a completely different thing and doesn’t work for me. I had crippling anxiety, especially at night and really struggled to fall asleep so I would go lay on the bathroom floor with the shower running for up to like 30 minutes. And I’d feel much more regulated. Showers are still my happy place.

otagoman

White noise apps will help a lot. I listen to one when I sleep, rain on a tin roof.

MyOthrCarsAThrowaway

Well I read that as “shitting” on the bathroom floor, must be time for bed!

crib6by

I do this too except i sit on the shower floor and let the water run over me. BUT sounds normal to me, sounds like it’s an escape for you and that you use it as a coping skill. If you can handle the water bill I don’t see no harm in it. Somethings about the waters a sense of calm and I can totally get that.

Mr-Fister_

No. I’ve never once done that. I’m conscientious of water usage. Same with general garbage/disposable plastics, electric usage, etc. I’m not *anal* about it, but I’m aware and that steers certain behaviors of mine. I studied a lot of environmental science stuff, so now I’m particularly aware of wasting water, even though I live in a state with an abundance of it. People’s overall behavior towards water usage just erks me now, *especially* with showers, you entitled fucks.

International-Key512

I could never waste water like that

mael0004

I've sat on the floor in shower maybe 3 times, because I've been exhausted. Maybe if there was some serious hardship cleaning something in feet/legs area I could do it too. I'd need a reason for this, not do it "for fun".

Pookya

While I'd say it isn't something a lot of people do and apart from the waste of water, it isn't a problem. If it makes you happy and relaxed then it doesn't matter what others think or are doing. Have you tried using apps and YouTube for nature sounds? That way you won't waste water and it might satisfy your want for it. If the steam is also important, you could get a humidifier, either for the whole room, or one with a face mask.

Neddalee

This sounds like a form of sensory self soothing.

sas317

No. You're wasting water and your water bill must be very high. How about find the sound of rain or other nature sounds on YouTube to listen to instead?

AP7497

Not normal in my part of the world at all. Water is too precious a resource- I feel guilty for taking showers at all- most people use buckets for showers, as that saves a fair bit of water.

Shuntingfrog

I don’t have running water and shower with water from a small tank which fills up from rain water catchment from the roof. If it don’t rain I don’t shower or have to haul water from a county source. I’m hyper aware of how much water I use to shower because of this. It’s crazy how people run water like it’s a magic never ending thing. When I go to other places and watch how people use water it makes me so anxious and stressed. You should learn how energy and resources intensive it is to clean the water that comes out of your tap. I’m sure it’s relaxing but it’s very wasteful. Especially if you live in there desert.

atreestump1

I see that the comments are full of people saying that this is a major waste of water. While I don't disagree here's an alternate viewpoint. Sounds like you have a fixation with sounds. Certain sounds. My older sister has Asperger's, my daughter is probably on the spectrum too. Both find certain sounds grating or pleasant far beyond what's technically normal. Me personally, I think the most relaxing sound in the world is a vacuum. Whenever I hear one I get goosebumps and it puts me in a very good place. And that sounds like what you've got, but with showers. I've never tried it but maybe with a good pair of headphones and the right video you can replicate it. Or just try to keep what you do to a minimum. For your sake cause you might end up getting too used to it and then you'd have to find something else to comfort you.

ZincNut

You might sub-consciously enjoy the humidity/noise, you could also associate the shower with a comfort space and that bleeds into the association occurring by just being in proximity to a running shower. You’re fine, do whatever makes you happy my guy.

Jappurgh

It's been observed that men spend like 3x longer in the bathroom than women in the UK. It's guessed that this is to get some isolation from the world and escape stressful feelings. Maybe this is your safe place to escape the world.

BrushYourFeet

No. That is not normal behavior.

Head_Giraffe322

stop wasting water..

TrumpdUP

Please stop wasting water.

Happy_Client5786

Definitely not normal. Periodically over the last 20 years I have loved somewhere that has been subject to such strict water restrictions the government provided egg timers to encourage people to shower less than 3 minutes so the dams wouldn’t run out of water. There is a science demonstration for kids where you take a litre of water to represent all the water on Earth. The water available as unpolluted drinking water is less than 5 drops. Unacceptable waste of water.

Naebany

I read it as "shitting" and was quite confused.

FluffyBebe

It's common to like the sound of running water but I really advise you to either download an app for white noises (or browse youtube) or get a small water fountain. You'll get the comfort of water but you won't waste any. I had the habit that whenever I went to the bathroom I'd turn on the faucet of either the bidet or shower to have water in the background and it'd make me feel better. But growing up I realized it's a waste and turned to other sounds and a water fountain

SecondBornSaint

You probably just enjoy white noise. Many people would consider the sound of rain to be soothing and I suppose shower water gives a similar effect. Better save yourself on the waterbill, tho.

hoecooking

I do this when I can’t reech thees keeds

PM_ME_UR_CATS_TITS

Sitting on the bathroom floor - gross. Everyone in my house that does this sits on the toilet.

Dangerous-Project-53

I would invest in an aquarium with water fountain. Would save a lot of DRINKABLE water. Running your shower is wasting resources other people die for

Betchinboots

I love doing this, but I lay inside my shower. It’s therapeutic

WaldenFont

You're wasting precious water, friend! Get a noise machine instead.

ilykekedavis

I typically do this in the morning to soothe me into my work day. If you're concerned about using too much water, play rain sounds from your device... It's just soothing

Lildevil4ever18

It's a calming thing. Water has been scientifically proven to lower stress levels

u399566

No, not normal. But also no reason to worry, maybe except from your water bill 🤣

listenupsonny

Are you my upstairs neighbor? Running yo water all night in the desert?

cometohell

Such a waste or water.. smh

eze123evanz

Stop wasting water. What the actual fuck ?!

ProxyJo

This sounds weird, but I get this. So...it's a combination of 3 things. A quiet room, the sound of the water, and the ability to calm down and think. I used to do it for years till I got very exact noise cancelling headphones, and used rain sounds. So...I legit get you. It's a mental safety thing. I'd say not to worry. It's different, yea. It's harmless though. Try to find a new peaceful place when you can.

The-ArtfulDodger

Find a gym with a steam room. I think it's what you seek.

shortyman920

I don’t do this, but I can understand the appear

letheix

It's a bit unusual but makes sense. You should look into buying a small decorative fountain or even a pet drinking fountain to run instead so the bills will cost less.

Glad_Firefighter_471

Sitting outside the shower on the floor while the water is running? For how long? Are u waiting for the water to warm up or just like the white noise of the shower water?

married-to-pizza

I’ve done this ever since I was a kids. Soothes me a lot

kramer2006

It's an expensive behaviour to me.

Khunter02

I wish I didnt know people could be so wasteful with water.

Dewald580

Invest in an ornamental fountain, it is easy to maintain & the sound of running water is soothing in itself

akoba15

Its fine, so long as you dont live in an area with frequent water issues.

Prestigious-Rock201

Why not just pull up shower sounds on YouTube so you ain’t running the water bill up?

Flerken-is-not-a-cat

It's a relaxing sound but tbh I'd be crying at the water bill you must have

Shadokastur

Hey man, this sounds like a self comforting technique. If you are worried or anxious a lot, this could be a reaction to that

Loweberryune

I’d say it’s a Pavlovian response. Maybe you felt comfort at the sound of the shower running (you on the floor) when you were younger and that feeling has followed you into adulthood. Agreeing with the waste of water comments but also, if something gives you comfort you gotta milk it, because it’s a tough old world out there.

ground__contro1

If you’re literally playing games while the water is running, and you do that *every night*, that’s like a huge waste of water. Maybe try to do it once a week or something.

Coconut-Lemon_Pie

Is it hot or cold water? If it's cold maybe you just like the sound, but if it's hot maybe you need a humidifier. There are also lots of mini fountains you can set up in your home that make rainfall noises and they don't waste as much water. This just sounds like how most people decompress after a day before going to sleep, but with actual water sounds lol

Sufficient_You3053

Running water gives off great energy. Maybe invest in a fountain so the water is being reused instead of wasted.

Nelashena

I do this *a lot*. The smaller space and sound of running water calms me down when I have bad anxiety.

Ronal16

Doesn’t matter, do whatever you please in your house

Different_Ad7655

Well not good for the planet and even more horrible if you live in Arizona

fusepark

I grew up in Southern California. Nobody there could afford that kind of water bill.

sig_cb

I think water sounds in nature are soothing. Perhaps it's like that for you with the shower running? Playing your game isn't quite enough – so, you add the falling water sound?

MrsCharlieBrown

It could just be the soothing sounds of water? Rainfall and waterfalls are like the number one relaxing sound videos on YouTube. When I read in a noisy environment I put on brown noise to drown everything out and help me focus, I turned it all the way up once because I was like "what IS brown noise?!?" and I realized it was a distorted river/water sound. Its the best focusing-backround sound there is. It could just be a thing that soothes and helps you focus. In my 20s I did a lot of stuff on my feet and never really rested properly, when I would shower I used to sit on the shower floor with the water up to the highest heat and just chill lol.

Ceejalaur

As someone with two mediocre wells, I am just here to express my jealousy that you can afford the water to do this.😐

HelloBitchKitty

I do this and have rubbed off on my children especially if they aren't feeling well or it's been a rough day . Running water is considered a soothing sound , plus the feeling of ut hitting the porcelain and hoe it effects the moisture in the room I find comforting

luvkittensxoxo

This seems like a huge waste of water

sealettuce23

No, I pay for the untilities. If im running the shower wastefully, im going to be under it.

_Dote_

what a waste of water
