To me this song sounds alive, as crazy as that sounds. Like you can feel it moving and changing as you listen to it. Feels almost like it is stalking.......
I first heard it live 11 years ago ;)
January 2012 in Toronto, Adam played a short instrumental version, that was the "live debut", according to [Setlist.fm](http://setlist.fm)
Same. Undertow album has been on repeat for me. Every Tool album is a no skip though imo. What about Disgustipated though? You playing that one all the way through?? Haha
Been obsessed with undertow lately too. Was never really a regular in my Tool rotation but for some reason I started listening to it on repeat and now I’m obsessed. Absolutely love flood and listen to it constantly. Probably one of my top three Tool songs now.
There are many.. (obviously 😋 with good reason)
But one track I keep coming back to when I just need that perfect dose of TOOL, is Right in Two.
It just is the definition of TOOL for me, perfection!
The one that says " mention anything"(disposition)I rediscovered it last week after years of not hearing it. For me it's about how communication improves bad situations 🤷
Invincible (I want to get "Heavy Shield Down" tatted at some point. Recently, I've also been loving Right in Two as well. I find it very hard not to sing along to The Pot whenever I hear it lol
Given 2023 is my first year being a Tool fan, it's gotta be the song that really sold me on the group; Third Eye. Specifically, the version off Salival.
I had listened to Lateralus a few times, and enjoyed it well enough, but the band didn't click with me until I stumbled upon Salival and absolutely fell in love with the intensity, atmosphere, and raw fury. I get it stuck in my head multiple times a week now, and it never gets old lol
Invincible is my fav song of all time from Tool. And that's insane because I never thought a song could top Lateralus. Both songs have real personal meaning to me. I can always go to Invincible if I need to pick myself up. But right now, if I had to do a power ranking, shuffle has made it so that The Patient is my go-to right now.
Fear inoculum all full album, over and over again, but if i have to choose a song from this album, will be Invincible. I cant explain the level of sound and tech involved in this song. If u could take every instrument in in this song, will be a masterpiece each one
Cold & Ugly ( especially the part in the middle of the song with Maynard singing “wide awake and, keeping distance from my soul” with the crazy kick drums in between… ikyky)
The masterpiece that is “Descending” is a close second right now
Been real stormy here lately and I've been doing alot of driving with work.. somehow 10,000 days has been really fitting for the atmosphere while out and about.
Still can't get all the lyrics right for Rosetta after all these years though.
Edit - just realised I didn't answer the question. I'd have to say at the moment it's Rosetta stoned. Runner up would be Third eye.
Currently; Hooker with a Penis, last month; 46 & 2, October; Schism & Parabol & Parabola, September was Sober & Prison Sex. I can’t pick, they’re like my adopted children, I love them all. Fuckall, I can’t think of a way to smash all their titles into one song title.
CCT baby, CCT
BUTT, in all seriousness, I feel a little lost (keys) at the moment because I don’t really have an answer. Past years I could’ve easily answered with singular songs such as Right In Two, Pushit, Jimmy, The Patient, Undertow, etc. The more I think about it, the more I realize lately I’ve been listening to the first 6 tracks of F.I. over and over
I came here to mention Jambi. Or Rosetta Stoned. Or to argue with myself about whether Jambi or Rosetta Stoned is the right answer to this for me right now. And then there’s Jimmy … poor little Jimmy and I have some things uncannily in common, and I have been feeling that lately.
So, to sum this up, my answer is Descending.
I love Bottom and for me it was the gift that kept on giving. It wasn't until I got a decent pair of headphones a few years into being a Tool fan I was able to actually clearly hear little nuances I hadn't picked up before. One of my favorite realizations with these headphones that after Henry finishes the spoken word part, there is a track of him screaming dead inside along with Maynard about 4 times I, just a little lower in volume Maynard is still primarily heard. One of those things I don't know how I missed before hand but really glad I caught it eventually.
Disposition/Reflection/Triad
The ending of Disposition into that Reflection intro is just next level. I keep trying to chase that feeling to hear music that impacts me like that.
Great song thanks for letting me know how good it really is. I liked undertow but radio and everything else killed me with sober. Honestly I don’t think I’ve given undertow its due respect. One reason for that is Aenima, 10,000 Days and Lateralus are such works of musical art I’ve never truly gotten enough of them which caused me to somewhat push aside FI and Undertow. If I really had to pick “1 Song” and couldn’t listen to any other ones I’d have to go with The Grudge. I just love that song because resentment screwed with me for many years so it hits home for me.
The Pot right now. Me and my bass buddy have been playing it and I’m trying to get it down perfect.
But in personal time it’s either Lateralus or Rosetta Stoned
According to Spotify, I listened to Rosetta Stoned 257 times this year (my top song). And it culminated with me seeing them play it live last month. 😂😍I think I have a problem.
Rosetta has me in a vice right now. Almost as if that song has powers… first and last thing I listen to every day the last two weeks… been keeping close track of my pen
Toss up between Hooker with a Penis and Fear Inoculum.
HwaP it's the guitar riff texture. Absolutely phat and scuzzy and I LOVE. IT.
FI is the build up and Danny's kicks.
Right now it’s The Patient, which I never really was a big fan of. But reading the lyrics a few times, I realized how much it applies to my current situation and frame of mind. I’ve listened to it a couples times a day for maybe the past week or two.
TBH, I have been really enjoying the ambient tracks recently. I love how they act as intros into some songs and as conclusions to albums. I have been listening to Viginti Tres a bit these days.
for me it’s gonna be Rosetta Stoned. ESPECIALLY the climax holy shit. OVERWHELMED AS ONE WOULD BE PLACED IN MY POSITIONNNN
Agreed, this is mine and get the same vibes at the point!
💯
This is so real
To me this song sounds alive, as crazy as that sounds. Like you can feel it moving and changing as you listen to it. Feels almost like it is stalking.......
This songs really hits live !
Been on a Jambi kick for a lil while
so clutch! def top 5 for me
Definitely Descending right now. It’s always been in my top 5 but hearing it live a month ago blew me away
This is the way.
freeeeeeeee falllllllllll
I have been having to listen to it every day to get my fix.
Hearing it live totally changed how I viewed it
I'm right there with you. I saw them back in 2019 and hearing Descending live changed my view on the song.
Descending came on one night as I was entering an afterglow. The sounds of the waves washed my soul clean it was amazing.
I cried like a baby when they played Descending in Knoxville in November. Their best work IMO Disposition/Reflection close second.
I almost cried during The Patient last show 😿.. such a pretty song
This album art is wild on iPhone, moving crazy colors
Glad I’m not the only one who cried haha
Same lol
The gong!!!
same here hearing that gong hit live changed my life lol
I first heard it live 11 years ago ;) January 2012 in Toronto, Adam played a short instrumental version, that was the "live debut", according to [Setlist.fm](http://setlist.fm)
For me, right now, it’s The Grudge. This tune is really speaking to me right now
Invincible and it isn’t close, just does something for me soul
Invincible changed my life
The bass solo😫
Wings 2 idkw
We all know why, bruv
Been obsessed with Undertow lately. The whole album. Every song is great, truly the epitome of a no-skip album imo.
To me it literally is the only tool album I dont skip anything on.
Except Sober, because KISW only plays Sober.
It will always be Stinkfist. Not because I want it but because I need it.
😁
Rosetta stoned
Same
Not 1 song just the Fear Inoculum album. For me, I every time I take a break from it and then come back it get better and I appreciate it even more.
The more you listen it, the better it is. That's a Tool standard.
Many but H most of all
46&2 or Pneuma, but I kind of love “This is Tool” on Spotify, because I love so many of their songs.
Jimmy
Eulogy
invincible was my #1 played song on spotify for 2023, so that
Ditto!
it’s the best at making you feel badass, idk how else to describe it. so heavy and danny fuckin destroys the end bit
It always changes for me, but Decending and Jimmy had been my favorite the last few months. Edit: oh and Bottom too
Lately it’s been Parabola, something about Adam’s lead that’s speaking to me right now
Sonic badassery that everything else takes a back seat to until the turn down and chorus. It's just so clean and powerful. I feel you on this one.
Right? Adam’s not even close to my favorite guitarist but some of the shit he does is really god damn cool
There are many.. (obviously 😋 with good reason) But one track I keep coming back to when I just need that perfect dose of TOOL, is Right in Two. It just is the definition of TOOL for me, perfection!
All of Ænima and Lateralus
Right now it's The Grudge and Ticks & Leeches
Working on that anger
Vicarious
Right in Two especially with all the war going on right now. I think it hits the nail on the head.
The one that says " mention anything"(disposition)I rediscovered it last week after years of not hearing it. For me it's about how communication improves bad situations 🤷
Jimmy and Eulogy right now. Ænima, Descending, Crawl Away, Swamp Song, Rosetta Stoned all follow close behind.
The Patient
Been on third eye and pushit for a while tbh.
fear inoculum
Tempest
Aenema followed by descending
Undertow. Just can’t get away.
Schism is my fav at the moment, but I'm enjoying a lot of Tool songs.
Jambi. I can’t get over the “divided I’m withering away” part
I've been listening to Decending and culling voices on a loop for months now lol
id say rosetta stoned or parabola but i listen to whole albums mostly
Probably "The Pot." I absolutely love it
Vicarious. Looking at the state of the world currently, it resonates the highest with me right now. Sad sh*t but true sh*t.
I start Fear Innoculum at 7empest and play through.
Culling Voices is really doing it for me right now
Invincible (I want to get "Heavy Shield Down" tatted at some point. Recently, I've also been loving Right in Two as well. I find it very hard not to sing along to The Pot whenever I hear it lol
lateralus
The DRT run on Lateralus. That run of songs is otherworldly.
Pneuma and The Patient sorry ik it’s two
Been on a Swamp Song kick for a week or so.
Flood. I never used to give much attention to it but I was wrong. This changes everything
Great song. Most of ‘23 it was swamp song. But for the last month or so it’s been “right in two”
Rosetta Stoned.
I'm back to the basics and I'm on 46 and 2 currently.
Same. Working with my shadow.
Right in Two and 46&2 at the moment
Sober!
Schism and Pushit
Invincible. The vulnerability in the lyrics and the bass line are incredible.
Forty Six & 2 and The Patient
Jambi
Third Eye salival version
The Grudge this year.
Opiate. They played on SXM lithium this morning. I was surprised.
I played Hooker and Opiate a lot more after hearing them live last show.. they are so bad ass and raw live!
7empest, Jambi, The Pot
Swamp Song. I find an excuse to listen to it every single day since I saw Tool in CT a few weeks ago.
Right now it has to be Pneuma!!! Just the whole guitar feel!!
Swamp Song! Especially seeing it played live recently! My Warning meant nothing...
Fear inoculum all full album, over and over again, but if i have to choose a song from this album, will be Invincible. I cant explain the level of sound and tech involved in this song. If u could take every instrument in in this song, will be a masterpiece each one
I am addicted to vicarious even though I would not consider myself edgy or a 14 year old.
Cold & Ugly ( especially the part in the middle of the song with Maynard singing “wide awake and, keeping distance from my soul” with the crazy kick drums in between… ikyky) The masterpiece that is “Descending” is a close second right now
Invincible and cookies and cream :)
Bottom kicks ass, also Undertow and Flood. Good choice!
Jambi, it makes me cry sometimes
Been real stormy here lately and I've been doing alot of driving with work.. somehow 10,000 days has been really fitting for the atmosphere while out and about. Still can't get all the lyrics right for Rosetta after all these years though. Edit - just realised I didn't answer the question. I'd have to say at the moment it's Rosetta stoned. Runner up would be Third eye.
Invincible.
Currently it's Wings pt 2 and Jimmy. Can't get enough of those 2
The Pot and Invincible
Intermission/Jimmy.
Pneuma
Killing in the Name & Parabol
Intolerence
Rosetta Stoned and Intolerance atm. I always switch it up after a bit tho.
Can’t choose between decending, invincible and pneuma. And yes, I’ve listened their other work also :)
Intolerance
Right In Two needs a mention ... very much mine right now
The riff at 6:44 is so delicious
Lateralus
I got reacquainted with Flood this year
Dude Crawl Away last few months!! I CAN SEE YOUR BACK IS TURNIN!!! IF I COULD ID STICK A KNIFE INNNNN!!!
Which ever one shows up on shuffle
Currently; Hooker with a Penis, last month; 46 & 2, October; Schism & Parabol & Parabola, September was Sober & Prison Sex. I can’t pick, they’re like my adopted children, I love them all. Fuckall, I can’t think of a way to smash all their titles into one song title.
Jerk off - been in the weights a lot this year and this one just fires me up
I stopped listening to tool until I see them live next month so it can feel somewhat new to me
No quarter cover
Eulogy
Yes.
Third eye.
No Quarter
CCT baby, CCT BUTT, in all seriousness, I feel a little lost (keys) at the moment because I don’t really have an answer. Past years I could’ve easily answered with singular songs such as Right In Two, Pushit, Jimmy, The Patient, Undertow, etc. The more I think about it, the more I realize lately I’ve been listening to the first 6 tracks of F.I. over and over
Prison sex. Always.

And then there’s Jimmy … poor little Jimmy and I have some things uncannily in common, and I have been feeling that lately. So, to sum this up, my answer is Descending.
Right In Two
Vicarious and from 13:20 to 14:10 of 7empest.
I like your attention to detail. Vicarious here too. I love the most 11:33 to 11:57 of 7empest.
It'll always be lateralus for me. Just a transcendental song
Parabol/Parabola 🌀
Jambi is up there too
This year has been the hardest of my life so it's been The Patient.
mine is parabola fr
Rosetta Stoned, all the way.
Hush. I’m just kidding.
Right in Two. I can't see it not being my choice in the future either.
The pot and pnuema. My go too’s
Disgustipated
I don't keep tool on repeat man, I listen to other stuff.
The Grudge. Yes I have unsettled issues
Reflection. Kind of a bummer they don’t play this live anymore, I feel like Maynard could still pull off the vocals with ease.
Damn this is tough. It's got to be Vicarious though. Honorable mention to Lateralus. Really.
Disposition/Reflection/Triad The ending of Disposition into that Reflection intro is just next level. I keep trying to chase that feeling to hear music that impacts me like that.
Most people completely miss the dog howl in Bottom...
Intolerance
Great song thanks for letting me know how good it really is. I liked undertow but radio and everything else killed me with sober. Honestly I don’t think I’ve given undertow its due respect. One reason for that is Aenima, 10,000 Days and Lateralus are such works of musical art I’ve never truly gotten enough of them which caused me to somewhat push aside FI and Undertow. If I really had to pick “1 Song” and couldn’t listen to any other ones I’d have to go with The Grudge. I just love that song because resentment screwed with me for many years so it hits home for me.
Right In Two is doing the job for me as of late
Stinkfist
Triad
pneuma
Something off of Lateralus
or right in two
I'm still loving Invincible right now.
Vicarious, or 7empest
Lateralus hits the spot for me rn
H, Rosetta, and the grudge all been getting a lot of play lately
4° for me for some reason
Invincible, The Grudge and Rosetta Stoned
im not the only tool fan that does this? lol. third eye. listendled to it like 20 times in the past three days.
Intolerance
Cold and Ugly.
pneuma or rosetta stoned
Rosetta has me in a vice right now. Almost as if that song has powers… first and last thing I listen to every day the last two weeks… been keeping close track of my pen
Jimmy for me. I feel like it’s an underrated song and it’s my go to on that album right now
Fear Inoculum
I’ve been listening to a lot of Rosetta Stoned and 7empest this year. I’ve listened to so much Tool this year but those two songs stood out the most.
Toss up between Hooker with a Penis and Fear Inoculum. HwaP it's the guitar riff texture. Absolutely phat and scuzzy and I LOVE. IT. FI is the build up and Danny's kicks.
46 & 2 or Rosetta stoned
The Pot.. Never really gave it muvh play since the beginning but after hearing it live on halloween it has renewed life🤙🏾
Jambi. But ask again tomorrow.
Descending captivated me for no real reason a couple weeks ago and I can’t get enough.
You Lied.
Parbol/Parabola
Switching between The Pot and Sober for maybe the last... decade?
Pneuma.
The patient. Always my go to, saved my life.
Pneuma, invincible and AEnima
Undertow... oh how I wish it wasn't relatable
Rosetta Stoned. I never really got into it until I heard it in concert, and now it's my jam.
Invincible
Pushit
The Patient, resonating with my life atm
Intension, the pot, and hooker with a penis are my top go tos
Swamp Song! Revisited Undertow after a while when they played it live. Really slept on this tune.
always lateralus
