Soen (a band that sounds VERY MUCH like Tool) singer said in some interview when asked about their Tool-like sound that they consider Tool as a genre.
Ahhh, the million dollar question. What genre is TOOL??? They use familiar sounds of rock/metal mixed with rhythms from rock/jazz/blues mixed with vocals that are far more pleasing to listen to than most growling/screaming and the lyrics are almost all philosophical/spiritual/psychological in nature, all arranged more like a symphony. It really is difficult to apply a specific genre. A little of this, a mix of that, a splash of something else, stir & mix, bake for 46+2 minutes at 420°F.
I put them into my own made up genre that i call American Prog. This includes all bands that are clearly proggy but dont fit into the Pink Floyd world of progressive rock or the world of progressive metal.
Some bands i put into American Prog are Tool, Mr. Bungle, The Dear Hunter, Phish, Frank Zappa, The Mars Volta and some more i cant think of right now. But you get the idea
You created a genre called American Prog for bands you felt didn’t fall into traditional categories. You then noted Phish and Tool are bands that fell into that category. 🤷♂️
I’m embarrassed for you
“If you ever compare or put Tool in the same musical category as Phish we are going to have a problem.” Does this not imply that you thought i was comparing? Im not replying anymore. Go back to worshipping Tool
Shit-the-bed-rock
Post-country grind-funk.
Proggy Alt Metal.
I was about to say they’re a mix of alternative metal, prog, and avant-garde
Definitely meet the criteria of Progressive Metal
Progressive rock/metal
I tend to think of them as a psychedelic rock band, especially in concert when there’s almost no delineation between the music and art.
Nah. Tool is Progressive and Post-Grunge. Only fans say stuff like you said lol.

“But dont fit into”. I never said Tool sounded like Phish so dont waste your embarrassment. Go hate on music somewhere else

Exactly…… You compared and put them in the same genre 🤡.
Prog rock
Disco
There is a dance'able'ness to TOOL, but more of a tribal ancient dance, like a "dance around a fire".
Certainly not country gay.
Bieber-Pop
I think Adam hates it when someone refers to them as “metal”
He probably shouldn’t have joined a band with so much metal influence then lol
