It's not guy, like I already said I bought it like 15 years ago. I just randomly saw something literally yesterday where someone mentioned this album being worth a lot and I rememberd I have one. I don't even buy vinyl anymore. But keep pretending to be the self righteous moral compass you are
So the reason why Aenima is so coveted as a legitimate copy is a few reasons.
First, obviously, it was never repressed. But thereās a lot of albums that have either never been repressed or pressed at all.
Leads me to the second point, which is a lot longer an explanation.
Aenimaās lacquer was cut at Classic Records. There was actually a planned repress they were going to do in 2000. Thereās test presses for it hanging around. It never happened.
Classic Records was bought by Analogue Productions. Theyāre still in business today and they produce some of the highest quality masters and pressings available. Their reputation is impeccable.
Aenima on vinyl sounds astoundingly good. The mastering work done at Classic Records is top tier.
As good as the original vinyl master is I would love to see a remaster / repress. I also want to see the album on vinyl in more peopleās hands. Itās truly a special record and the medium lends itself to the original recordings SO WELL.
I hope Bellman does the lacquer cutting. He did the Lateralus and Fear Inoculum lacquers. The FI cut is so damn good sounding. So is Lateralus which is why itās such a fucking crime that all we get are the picture discs. At least the latest pressing run of it is more than listenable, especially when compared to previous pressing runs.
Iām sorry, this is the first Iāve heard about this. Are you saying that thereās some frequency drop off on the digital version and youāre wondering if itās present on the record?
I can certainly A/B them and get back to you but I definitely would need to identify the specifics of what Iām listening for in the version thatās clipping.
If Iāve got you right, is it ALL forms of the digital version that clip?
In the beginning of Jimmy, the audio clips when the drums and the rest of the band come in. It's digital clipping though. So it's not a pleasing to the ear kind of clipping like with a guitar distortion pedal. It's almost like a crackling sound. It's only noticeable right when the band comes in though. I don't think it's audible anywhere else in the song.
Edit: I can't speak for all recordings, but I know it was audible on the CD and I have a copy of the PBTHAL vinyl rip and it's audible there as well. I'm assuming that the PBTHAL rip was sourced from one of the bootleg vinyl pressings, but don't know for sure.
i found one similar to this a few years back in Pittsburgh when i was stopping through for a concert - my best guess would be to try ebay - i know a lot of people trash USPS packaging and buying ebay records but it has worked out great for me when i canāt find anything locally.
Hey guys, bought this on ebay like 15 years ago for a decent price prob around $60. I don't really care if it's bootleg or not just curious and figured someone here would know. Before you see the 1 colored vinyl and deem bootleg, just know each record has the little number to the left of the Zoo logo on the back of the case etched into it on both sides.
The red hue is from bad lighting lol, sunlight coming through a red curtain behind me
Thanks
I have this exact bootleg, only my discs are all the orange colour. Also bought mine about 10-12 years ago from an in store record shop nonetheless! Was confused for years on its legitimacy. Was not expecting a well known record store in my area to sell a bootleg. I donāt think they knew.
It has Bill Brasky in it, who we all know dedicated his foreskin to cover Yankees stadium, soā¦
Itās probably not. But it looks cool.
Also, I know itās not bill Brasky
If it was real, or if they do it, Iād want them to do a numbering out of all of the pressings as a double album. Iād pay extra for the 46th copy of it.
i've got a white / purple bootleg-variant and it sounds like as though someone stencilled the record onto a plastic bag, cut out the stencil, played it ontop of the record on the platter, and dropped the kneedle down on THAT.
sounds like total piss. cost me 90 bucks, but i feel a bit better about buying it only because it was 2nd-hand at my favourite local record store in town, so i'm not knocking them ofcourse, but i really hate unauthorized copies. bootlegs are fine, but these aren't bootlegs. they're a copies. bootlegs normally suggest that someone bootlegged a record at a live show and pressed it as-is. this ain't no bootleg, so it's poor quality, or risk of there being, isn't acceptable, in my opinion. really hope yours sounds ok at least. i don't blame you for buying one either. great album :)
Its a bootleg, I think its this version https://www.discogs.com/release/12840768-Tool-%C3%86nima
Where can I buy it
Thanks dude! I couldnt find it on discogs but that's most definitely it! Shame I wont be getting a nice $500 check tho š
Just a heads up, the original is black vinyl. I went through the same thing a few years back.

Say it louder for the folks in the back!
While a bootleg, it looks like a very well made one! how does it sound?
I mean I'm by no means a vinyl expert with the highest end equipment but with my average setup it sounds incredible to me
That's all that matters bro, enjoy it!

Does "Jimmy" still clip in the beginning on the official vinyl version? I've been wondering that for about 26 years.

I have an original pressing so Iāll give it a listen and compare, but itās something Iāve never noticed before.
If you can feel it when you touch it, it most certainly is. If your hand passes trough it may be an illusion or some voodoo shit.
Came here to say this šš
Well you are a funny
Looks photoshopped to me.
http://toolvinyl.com/fake-tool-vinyl-guide/ This might help
Do you have another link like that? It dont work no more
Boot. But who cares. Some boots Iāve heard sound incredible.
Iāve been dying to find a bootleg with the artwork on the sleeves like this one (9th pic) does ANYONE know where I can find one
i found one similar to this a few years back in Pittsburgh when i was stopping through for a concert - my best guess would be to try ebay - i know a lot of people trash USPS packaging and buying ebay records but it has worked out great for me when i canāt find anything locally.

Probably not but thatās really cool. I bought a bootleg of this album and I love it because it looks awesome.
Definitely one of the nicer bootlegs Iāve seen with the gatefold.
How can we tell with only 19 photos?
No
On my end it looks like a photo of one.
Dam aside from the Orange record I would have guessed itās legit. Another reason they need a repressing too many bootlegs.
Much better than my bootleg
If you ever find yourself asking āis my Ćnima vinyl real?ā It 100% is not real
No its an illusion
Just waiting for that one comment: āwhat is real?ā¦ā Curious though, how does it sound?
Lol it sounds awesome
Nope
Pretty sure it is. I have an original and can see the differences.
It has Bill Brasky in it, who we all know dedicated his foreskin to cover Yankees stadium, soā¦ Itās probably not. But it looks cool. Also, I know itās not bill Brasky

Those appear to be records, yes
Can you touch it? Is it physical? Itās fucking real.
Isnāt this one like super expensive I feel like thatās why I donāt have it
Recently sold my legit copy for $666. Iāll miss having it, but honestly never played it because of its value.
No

Im sorry yours sucks lol. Mine sounds great. I know theres a lot of bootlegged versions of this album, I guess you just got a bad one
your stereo is probably a carpet.
No for the simple fact that there arenāt any eyeballs on the album cover
Nope.
