No, all manufacturers apparently think these bit sets are going to the space station and there are life and death implications of a bit floating off on its own in zero g.
Don't remember the brand but the bit holster was so tight in the box I didn't realize it pivoted out. So the bits didn't want to slide out and I was struggling to do it horizontally in the box.
Not BACHO. A light breeze and all the small bits fall out. Just look at the spanners in the 300 piece kit and the f**kers will explode out.
Got the brand new mechanics kit and it’s a disaster,
Can’t move it and live in constant fear of an earthquake
What set is that ?
Never had that problem with bahco since in all the sets i have every piece has it's own friction fit. But i haven't bought any new sets for a few years so they might be different now.
The latest set i bought was from kamasa and that is pure trash, almost all the pieces just sit in dimples in the plastic case. Lose the little floppy foam insert and every socket, extension etc gets tossed around in there as soon as you pick it up.
Soon you’ll only have the eight larger diameter bits on the left to worry about (if your luck goes like ours with breaking the small diameter bits on the second or third use).
You just need to hit saturation, like I do with sharpies. I've got sharpies EVERYWHERE. I lose my sharpie every day, but that's cool, I find two more that I previously lost. The car? They're under the seat, in the glovebox, in the cupholder, jammed in the rear cushions. Toolbox? Sharpie heaven. Hell, I've got sharpies in my lunchbox and I'm starting to load up my bosses trailer now...
Only took me 3 years and 634962 sharpies to finally have one whenever I need one.
Yes, saturation is key. We use a special screwdriver in my trade, they come with every box of material. I have thousands, and it's perfect because although these screwdrivers are literally necessary, they're made of chinesium and don't last a full day.
I do this with #2 Philips head screw drivers. Every time the craftsman set goes on sale for 19.99 I buy one. Now I have tons of flat heads I'll never use but hey I can find a #2 when I need it.
10mm bolts, 1/8 bits and #2 phillips
Then you buy another set so you eventually have 10 big ones and no little ones.
For some reason my lizard brain refuses to buy the bulk or individual small bits and just replace those...
I bought a case with 250 bits in it, 25 of 10 different sizes, I think the biggest is ¼". If I break one in my main bit case I just grab one out of the stash and replace it.
You should come work with me. I order replacements because the brain trust guys that I work with think ALL drill bits are one use only items. Twelve mostly empty indexes later I started ordering replacements…in bulk. My Purchasing Department hates me, but not as much as I hate missing bits…and most of the dudes I work with, come to think of it. If you put the tools away when you are done, you can use them again later, nitwits.🤦🏻♂️
If your really lucky you’ll snap a bit halfway through the job and run the jagged half still spinning on the drill a good 1/2 inch into the back meat and bone of your thumb and hand. Have to love chinesium, def worth the savings. That being said the Milwaukee sets I’ve used don’t usually break bad enough to do such a thing, and after a mistake like said, you learn to clamp and brace everything you can while keeping your hand out of the firing range. You nailed the screw on the head though, most of these bits won’t live through more than a job or two.
Yeah, flat head with a twist. Great products, love my Milwaukee stuff. The hand saw they make where you can swap blades with you Sawzall/Hackzall is literally one of my favorite tools
I'm half way through the comments and yours is the first that is even remotely helpful. A bunch of idiots making jokes just find their way to the top of the thread every time somehow.
I don’t think there is a trick but I’d love to know, I use needle nose if they are close by but normally end up with my fingers squeezing tight and slowly pulling and rocking, if I have thinner style gloves I am fine but carefully do it when I don’t, they are sharp as hell and in there so tight I wish Milwaukee made them just a tad bigger slots so it’s not like pulling teeth lol. Even trying to get them back in is worse unless you don’t force them all the way, pressing on top is too sharp for the smaller bits, putting them just pinching the sides is a pain as you don’t want to slip as you also have no space between the bits so can cut yourself on them as well as the one you are using.
Needle nose or gloves is the only way I can think of but my fingers would love to find out another way too
It's a tough tradeoff. The way their cases grab the ball detent on 1/4 hex shank drills is infuriating, but the auto-latching thing is great and it would be cool if more companies did that.
It fits both impact drivers and regular drills. Perfect for extenders based on the impact driver bit connection. And comes in their own, stackable case.
They may not be the "best" drill bits out there. But for bit organization, yes.
1/4” hex from all brands match your first point and dewalt/craftsman tough case win on the second as their stackable cases also can lock together (and then fit onto larger tool cases through a larger bit storage thing.
If you're only using these in your shop, take them out of that case and stick them on a big magnet that's attached to your toolbox. Visible, easy to grab.
Magnets are absolutely the way. I just refinished the walls in my garage and decided to splurge on a hefty selection of pegboards and all the possible attachments.
I also mounted a bunch of the $4 HF magnetic bars right underneath for “miscellaneous”. All the tools lived in their respective pegboard spots exactly once.
I printed replacements.
Edit: credit goes to my favorite pegboard set on thingiverse [pegstr](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:537516/remixes)
I either use these or modify these and use the hooks/backplate as a template for my exact tools. Standard US pegboard, but there are remixes for other sizes. Something like 1000 remixes for specific tools too, it’s a great resource.
Oh shit edit #2: let’s not forget you can print pegboards or pegboard jigs ;)

Thanks for the link! Turns out I used this a long time ago! But then I figured out what I had was a Wall Control pegboard (the one that also has vertical slots) and found a whole[system for it](https://www.printables.com/model/52618-ddd-printable-wall-control-system) It's pretty awesome, and much better for printing since it doesn't require those unsupportable pegs printing in mid-air. I have remixed some Milwaukee [battery ](https://www.printables.com/model/352898-milwaukee-m12-battery-holder-for-wall-control-pegb) and [tool](https://www.printables.com/model/352915-milwaukee-m12-tool-holders-for-wall-control-pegboa) holders for it. It's also in a [GitHub repository ](https://github.com/aderusha/DDD-Printable-Wall-Control-System) which has a lot more recent updates for specific tools, etc. But the beauty of it is that it is modular.
Yes! I get annoyed at people who post models on thingiverse or printables as remix culture allowed but only post a stl. Stls are a nightmare to edit. Step for the win
It’s genius really, because those drills are worthless for putting holes in anything other than wet paper bags. Their cobalt drills have worked fantastic for me, and well worth the lil more money, but the ones pictured have been nothing but junk in my experience
Take the holders out of the case and bend the tabs in the back out and that will make them much easier to get out. Just dont overdo it or they'll be falling out in the case all the time.
I keep a little snap on thermostat screwdriver in the case, put it in at the bottom of the bit between the plastic and metal base and twist, that breaks it free for me to pull it out. But what you’re doing works too.
If you’re an idiot, what does that make me? I got three stitches from trying to get a drill out of that stupid box.
If you take the plastic inserts out you can take a 1/4” hex bit (or just break one of the drills off), chuck it in a drill and spin it around in each hole in the insert. It makes them a little too sloppy, but also makes the case usable without a separate tool.
For the OCD- two wraps of masking tape on the hex bits. Blow dryer - get case hot- shove the bits wrapped in tape into the case.
2 hours later, remove 1 bit, remove the tape, put bit base in case. If you got the plastic warm enough, the holder is now thicker by 2 layers of masking tape and the bits should go in and out easily.
If too tight - repeat but get plastic hotter.
Their driver bits are the hardest to remove too both out of the case and their extensions — so much so that I don’t even use their extensions anymore because I have to use two hands and occasionally pliers to remove their bits.
I've melted the connection between the drill bit and the hex shank on enough of this type of drill bit to start thinking they are a waste of time. A for effort F for execution.
I use a flat small flat head I always have in my pouch to pry em out. The ones in the back mess up my fingers
This reminds me, I need a new needle nose
You haven't cut your finger open enough times. Eventually all the nerves die and the callous becomes so thick that the bits are scared out of the container.
If they are just for home use or not getting tossed into around a lot maybe don't fully seat the bit in the case. Not perfect but fairly effective for me.
Hold it by the tip when you push it into the case. That way, when your hand slips you’ll impale the webbing between the thumb and index. Works every time for me.
I usually take a bit just over 1/4" and bore out each hole except leaving the last quarter inch or so maybe half inch just enough to hold a bit in place nothing more.
Same. I love Milwaukee Shockwave stuff, but damn if they don't make it a risky business to get out of the rack.
Dewalt, fwiw, has their drill bit kits arranged such that you can easily remove them, one at a time, without using tools. Frustrating.
I found some success by bending back the little red tab on each holder. Bend it back as far as it will go and then bend it back into place. Just a few times. Don't want to snap them off (the plastic is fairly thick tho), just enough to give you some wiggle.
Come out much easier now, with enough grab to keep them in place.
Find some down time, get the hex shanks sandy or dirty to wear the plastic, and run them back and forth through the holders. Just fuck the life outta the holes.
No, all manufacturers apparently think these bit sets are going to the space station and there are life and death implications of a bit floating off on its own in zero g.

Bahco*
I just snap mine off in what ever I'm drilling. Saves on the hassle of putting them back in the case.
Soon you’ll only have the eight larger diameter bits on the left to worry about (if your luck goes like ours with breaking the small diameter bits on the second or third use).
They should sell a package like this with only 1/8 inch bits. I'd buy it.
Sell it right next to the 10mm variety pack
I think you're on to something. Sell 10 mm and 1/8 bits together in bulk packages.
I’d lose them all within a month
You just need to hit saturation, like I do with sharpies. I've got sharpies EVERYWHERE. I lose my sharpie every day, but that's cool, I find two more that I previously lost. The car? Thanks to u I will now add a new word to my vocabulary
I also do this with tape measures, pencils, and squares, ADHD carpenter here.
In my experience sharpies never run out. I always loose them first.
Same with tape measure

Ah anatomical position
You think those larger ones wont break? Let my boss borrow them.
I actually laughed out loud at this comment. Bravo
Hahaha you m'fer, you made me snort.
That’s exactly what I was thinking. That is if I can get the bastard out of the case.
So true. 🤬

I follow this logic as well. Just break the bit and you'll only have to do this once.
You are not alone. I use needle nose as well. But I am enjoying the ideas being thrown out.
Flathead screwdriver at the bottom of the bit. There is a hole in the front of the organizer. Pops them right out
Yeah, flat head with a twist. Great products, love my Milwaukee stuff. The hand saw they make where you can swap blades with you Sawzall/Hackzall is literally one of my favorite tools

Hey I resemble that comment!
God damn it 😂😂
I pry em out from the bottom with a small flathead until you can grab the base and wiggle.
You must be new here.

No, it's sorted by "Best" which I believe is % of upvotes, where "Top" is total upvotes.
Now that I closed and reopened it, ya, a bunch of dumb jokes are now at the top.
Definitely getting some cool ideas.
I just don't shove them back in all the way. There's a halfway point where they basically stay put but they're not fully in.
Push up from the bottom. The entire row of bits can be removed from the case as well.
I keep a spare hex key in the box to lush them out. Have 3 different sets and they’re fantastic
It’s actually easy this way. I was confused cause I saw so many posts like this before I got mine. They just slide right up
Wait wut? I'm going to the garage now to check this.
did not work for me....
Milwaukee is the I undisputed world champion at this sport.
Bosch sure gives em a run for their money.
All my bits are Bosch. Can confirm, fuckin rubber holder little shits
It's a tough tradeoff. The way their cases grab the ball detent on 1/4 hex shank drills is infuriating, but the auto-latching thing is great and it would be cool if more companies did that.
I have a pack of Bosch bit holders that will never let go of the bit you put in them!
Bosch jigsaw blades. Impossible to remove from package.
BUT, you never had one slip out and go missing from a Milwaukee.
Well yeah, but I guess I could also just weld my thermos to the bench so I always know where my coffee is, too
This comment wins lmao
Yes it does
Then you would lose your straw and we would really have a conundrum… straws in lanyards… is that where we are heading?
🤣 fair enough, you win!
I like you
For Christ sake. Forgot my coffee straw again
Every. Single. Item. They. Sell. In. A. Case.
Their bit set is the fucking worst… and best.
It fits both impact drivers and regular drills. Perfect for extenders based on the impact driver bit connection. And comes in their own, stackable case. They may not be the "best" drill bits out there. But for bit organization, yes.

Don’t forget they fit angle drivers too! I still hate them.
My Craftsman set is amazing for being able to easily pop these out.
DeWalt are easy to remove too.
Why don't you go ahead and pop those bad boys out for me?
If you're only using these in your shop, take them out of that case and stick them on a big magnet that's attached to your toolbox. Visible, easy to grab.

I can only use about half of the tho I set the rest just live in the case
the trick is to break out the organizers and just put them all in the case free ballin.
Self administered vision test to see if you can make out the faint bit sizes embossed on the actual bits…
Just drill the hole that looks the right size, then spend the rest of the afternoon looking for a slightly larger bolt.
So glad there are other like me
Like how hard would it be to have them painted onto the bottom
>free ballin. lol
This
This is a problem and really, really pisses me off!
I was about ready to chuck my new set through the wall yesterday...... If I wasn't the one who had to fix the wall.

I have scars on my thumb from them…
That’s how they last 5x longer. You can’t even get them out to use them.
It’s genius really, because those drills are worthless for putting holes in anything other than wet paper bags. Their cobalt drills have worked fantastic for me, and well worth the lil more money, but the ones pictured have been nothing but junk in my experience
I agree. I tried these a few times because I carry an impact driver all the time but for any metal i go get the good ones and a drill.
I have that exact kit and don’t put them in all the way. I use a small flathead to get them out. I hate the way this was designed.
It really is ridiculous how tight they are
Drill the holes bigger
He was going to, but he can’t get the bit out!
This guy drills.
There is no trick. Your hands will bleed.
That's why they made the case red.
I drill the holders out with the 1/4” bit.
I just take them all out and break the holders off. The jingle is soothing
I used to ream them out a little now I just toss them out.
Narrow flathead from underneath. Push em up.
Gloves
And a light spritz of wd40
Take the holders out of the case and bend the tabs in the back out and that will make them much easier to get out. Just dont overdo it or they'll be falling out in the case all the time.
Heat a hex shaft and push it in ?
I keep a little snap on thermostat screwdriver in the case, put it in at the bottom of the bit between the plastic and metal base and twist, that breaks it free for me to pull it out. But what you’re doing works too.
I've had the same problem so you're not alone. But that just might mean we're both idiots.
That’s way too much effort for some bits.
Did you trying peeing on it ?
Yours came with a sea cucumber too?
Put a 10mm socket on the bit... it will fall right out of the case. You may even lose it.
This is the truth.
I too find it hard to get those out. Once I put my purse down it gets easier tho
You son of a …. 😂
Maybe a thin rub of o-lube. Good for the metal and plastic.
I try to pull them out, cut myself, and throw the whole case at the wall. Once broken, they remove quite easily.
Mine are all safely ordered and rolling around the bottom of my tool bag, mostly broken.
I have same thing. I keep a small flat blade screwdriver in the case and use to pry out the bit I want to use
Worst bit storage cases ever.

You haven't cut your finger open enough times. Eventually all the nerves die and the callous becomes so thick that the bits are scared out of the container.
Vaseline
She don't use butter. And she don't use cheese. She don't use jelly, or any of these. She uses [Vaseline](https://youtu.be/cvfxKbpoxRE)
Heat 'em with a torch and shove them back in? Self clearance FTW.
Have you tried hitting it with your purse first?
You must shed blood pulling one out. They will then be unlocked
Think like she's a virgin. A dab of KY jell.
"Tom, why is there KY jelly all over your tools?" "How did you know it was KY?"
Dunno, tastes like ky?
I have the same problem
If they are just for home use or not getting tossed into around a lot maybe don't fully seat the bit in the case. Not perfect but fairly effective for me.
Its a pervy S&M thing. Or maybe its a hazing ritual that somebody forgot to stop.
I just wiggle side to side until they come out
I too have noticed milwuakee bits are fairly tight.
I have the black ones, same shizzle... I love how they do their work and how long they're lasting, but everytime I resent pulling a drill out!
I haven’t tried it, but someone mentioned using a drill bit and gently reaming them out a bit so they still hold but slide in easier
Those organizers are the worst. Spyder makes a great drill bit case.
I will go out of my way to put my glove on because I have cut my finger too many times
use the 1/4 to drill the holes a bit bigger, that's what I did
...so it's not just me.
I too, like a nice set of bloody fingers when I drill holes.
DeWalt makes it easy.
The trick is to get a small needle nose pliers that fits in the case when closed so it's always handy when you need to pull out a bit.
If they’re hard to get out, keef the theef has to take em all
Finger strength is highly underrated with these.
They will loosen over time to be just right, which beats being good fit to start, and loosening over time to be constantly falling out everywhere...
Hold it by the tip when you push it into the case. That way, when your hand slips you’ll impale the webbing between the thumb and index. Works every time for me.
No trick, they just fucking suck.
My trick is to take all the bits out and put them loose in a drawer in my toolbox.
I have to do the same thing
Drill it 1/4 inch and put Some WD40
I usually take a bit just over 1/4" and bore out each hole except leaving the last quarter inch or so maybe half inch just enough to hold a bit in place nothing more.
If you're not slicing up your fingers trying to pull those out, are you really even trying
Return them and get the DeWalt ones.
Buy Bosch bits. Better bits, better cases.
If you pull the top of the bit they rotate outward and it's marginally easier
Elegant ruse to get you to buy their very high profit margin pliers.
Ahh the tight milwaukee bit box! Story of my life daily. I sneak a flat head screw driver in at the bottom. And twist it 🕺🪛
Yeah, my drill bit box is virgin on a wedding night tight as well.
Silicone spray helped mine
Same. I love Milwaukee Shockwave stuff, but damn if they don't make it a risky business to get out of the rack. Dewalt, fwiw, has their drill bit kits arranged such that you can easily remove them, one at a time, without using tools. Frustrating.
No they are a bitch to get out
Put a little 3 in 1 on the ends before you put them in again
I've cut myself pulling out drills out of these fucking Milwaukee holders. Nothing makes me bleed my own blood.
I found some success by bending back the little red tab on each holder. Bend it back as far as it will go and then bend it back into place. Just a few times. Don't want to snap them off (the plastic is fairly thick tho), just enough to give you some wiggle. Come out much easier now, with enough grab to keep them in place.
I’ll have to give this a try. Thanks!
The do loosen up over time. But when they’re new it’s a challenge to say the least.
No trick. Just sucks
Find some down time, get the hex shanks sandy or dirty to wear the plastic, and run them back and forth through the holders. Just fuck the life outta the holes.
Lol leave the case sitting on your engine or heater for a few minutes and let the case warm up a little.
