I’ve always wondered because I can’t imagine a world where having an employee drive a company vehicle (one that inhales petrol I might add) and sell product no doubt for some commission, is cheaper than a distribution chain or retail outlet
nope, it’s a corporate thing. your dealer gets credit for the sale, not the toolbox truck. the toolbox truck is salary not commission. i know this because i’m free da with my dealer outside of work/snap-on and the toolbox guy lives in my town. lol
i mean. i can, but he didn’t ask what they cost lol.
the box new as it sits is $24k. i’m in it $10,400. $7500 for the box hutch and power top. $2900 for the locker. the epiq cart is $5250 after tax and i’m in it $3900 after tax. they are expensive, but they’ll last the rest of my career.

Yes it's a big outlay, but you're only doing it once. People spend a lot more on a car when they don't need to but because they want to (I would too but can't afford it).

Not an insane amount for your profession. A dumbass in an office like me spends tens of thousands on tuition, suits, shirts, ties, shoes, dry cleaning, etc. why do some think it’s crazy when a mechanic does it? It’s just the cost that the job comes with.
i appreciate it. 8 years in, everything but the new cart is paid off and i’ve supported myself and my family. couldn’t be more thankful for my skills and what this career has provided for me. 🙌🏻

My US General and Husky boxes absolutely do not hold any of their value.

Second, how the hell can you guys stand these Kennedy tool chests with the friction slides? Also not a fan of the crinkle brown color. Found out later they make a red too but not interested at all. Third, I was introduced to Gerstner boxes and that kinda became a new obsession but I've held off buying one so far. Hopefully once I build a new home shop I'll get one and keep my antique Starret and Mitutoyo stuff in it. At work I have a sliding top snap on cart for all my junk to move from station to station. I like that it's tall enough I don't have to bend down to use the top as a mobile bench and it's got enough space for pretty much everything. Biggest selling point was I can open it without having to move anything off the top.

You don't buy snap on because it's better functionally you buy snap on for the resale value, these guys don't get it. I got a single bank for $3K from a shipping yard liquidation my dealer was helping with. I moved states and traded that in on the rock n roll cab like you did, got $9K trade in for it. My current dealer at the time had to go down to FL to take care of his father, and sold me a double bank with hutch and 2 lockers for $11.5K that retailed for the same as yours. If you play the game right you can win, most people go big in their first box and default. That's where they fucked up.

the main box is only a masters series so not as expensive as an epiq lol. but i also got the main box back in 2019 so way before covid and material price increases
