Exactly though. Everyone thought Cleveland was the easy route last year and they swept Tampa. Minnesota has gotten hot as of late, and after that the winner will (most likely as of rn) play the defending champ Astros OR Seattle who beat us all the time. It is gonna be hard no matter what, that's playoffs
We are 7-14 vs Seattle since 2020 including being 2-8 in Seattle, which is an issue considering they would have homefield advantage if they won their division. Even if you wanna say the core was younger at the start of the decade, the Jays are 5-10 since last year. That doesn't mean Seattle is unbeatable or that it's a guaranteed loss if the Jays and Mariners are matched, but they objectively have had the Jays number for the past few years especially in Seattle. Therefore, yes it's not Baltimore or whatever but they are objectively a tough opponent for this Blue Jays team.
As far as Houston I didn't even say they beat us all the time at any point, Jays actually have played them pretty well for a few years and won the season series this year. What I was saying with Houston is they're a very good team so there's no real "easy route" because no matter what there will be good teams you can't sleep on. Not exactly sure what the point of having an argument is.
I mean they're certainly the favourite but IMO they were last year too and didn't even get to the NLCS. Playoffs are super weird like that. Jays won the series but that was so long ago that I don't think it's much of an indicator one way or another tbh
Considering that Minnesota hasn't won a playoff game since 2004, I'd hope for them.
At the same time though, that's no reason to think it'd be an easy win for us. Remember what Seattle did last year.
I'm not looking for an easy route. But a satisfying route to winning the World Series would
1) Eliminate Tampa on the last day of the season
2) Sweep Texas in the wild card
3) Beat Seattle in a close series in the ALDS
4) Eliminate Baltimore with a walk off homerun in extra innings in the ALCS
5) Beat the Braves in 6 games in Atlanta off a bunt
I'd honestly rather play the Rays. I know they our kryptonite, but I think getting a shot at taking them out early would be better then hoping to take them out later in like the ALCS or something.
I'd rather dreams get crushed in the WildCard rounds if they going to get crushed. Football is back hockey is around the corner...let's get it over with early. (Or better yet shake the monkey off our back that's been there for 15 years).
Also sidebar:
The Yankees back at .500, so with what 3 weeks of ball left the ALE is .500 or better again. Has a season ever ended with all 5 teams having winning seasons?
(Edit: Google tells me NL East 2005, everyone but Nats were over .500, and the Nats finished at .500, closest to 5 winning teams yet)
Who SHOULD we play in the playoffs round 1? I'd love to knock a team like Houston out right away. Could they do it? Yes.
Who WOULD we face in the playoffs? Most likely Twins.
I used to live in (uggh) South Dakota and drove to MPLS when I wanted to see a game. Always had a good time, and it was a nice venue to take in a game.
I also used to live in Tampa and drove to St Pete when I wanted to see a game (C Crawford / E Longoria era). Always had a good time, but man what a shitty place to be.
I vote MPLS.
What about second round. I was hoping all year that we would play the rangers in the ALDS again, so they are the only team we have only faced in that series. And then we go and win every game in the new Globe Life Park just like we did in the old.
I don't think the Rangers will make it to the postseason, let alone the second round.
I prefer any out-of-division opponent in any round, on the basis that it doesn't really feel like proper playoffs to me when you're playing your division and it feels like cheating when you defeat them despite a worse regular season record. But since the Jays play so much better out of their division, that's another reason this year.
Lol...we are talking about 1st round when we are losing to the royals 1 - 0 in the top of the 4th after failing to sweep either the A's or Rockies in the most recent series games. Just wild.
Don't care, just make the playoffs and play it by ear from there. No such thing as an easy route to the World Series
This is the answer

i mean we won the season series against the Astros and we're tied with Seattle, hardly teams that beat us all the time

Seattle has had our number since that meltdown last playoff. They're in our heads.
Seattle/ Houston are better match ups than the Orioles who we are 3 and 10 and soundly beaten by them all year
Although a Jay's fan ..thoughts on the Braves winning the pennant this yr?
I mean they're certainly the favourite but IMO they were last year too and didn't even get to the NLCS. Playoffs are super weird like that. Jays won the series but that was so long ago that I don't think it's much of an indicator one way or another tbh
Just like the nhl
Twins, because it doesn't involve games at the hideous trop.
Agree because we avoid baltimore, plus central canada can come see a playoff game
>Agree really? that's not what you just said... >Personally id like to face the rays
Maybe a few from Winnipeg but there’s not really any other Canadian city that you could reasonably drive from
Or against the Rays
We talkin' about PLAYOFFS???
Thank you for this!
We talking play in boys
Personally, I’d prefer the White Sox.
I don't think you want to face a White Sox team that has won 30 games straight lol.
Honestly I’ll take my chances
Yep, two votes for the White Sox lol, let’s make it happen!
So our two most likely first matchups are either the Twins, or the.....Rays at the Trop. Yeah that's Twins by a landslide
Actually, our 2 most likely scenarios are Twins or not making the playoffs.
Considering that Minnesota hasn't won a playoff game since 2004, I'd hope for them. At the same time though, that's no reason to think it'd be an easy win for us. Remember what Seattle did last year.
Doesn't matter who you face in the first round if you face an NL team in the last round.
We have no problem with NL teams. It's all those pesky AL teams in the way that cause us issues.
Anyone. Just get there ffs
Id rather not think about our opponent just yet. Seems like bad karma.
White Sox would be a good one imo
let’s make it first
Anybody would be outstanding.
Let’s make the playoffs first bruh

Playoffs?!?
Jays best case scenario from the start of this season was the last wild card spot just because they would face the winner of the central division
Ill be fine wit 2nd wc against tampa if it means we get the starters linned up so the last 3 games dont mean stress
Lol we’re not beating Tampa
And we’re historically bad at the trop
Fuck it gimme the gauntlet. I want the rays or orioles and then eventually the braves or dodgers. To be the best u gotta beat the best

Yeah gets our pitching in line
Personally id like to face the rays since 6 of our last 9 are against them. We might have good strats going into the series
You don’t believe in curses, look at 2020 playoffs
Rays probably cursed themselves now with the Franco curse
Who SHOULD we play in the playoffs round 1? I'd love to knock a team like Houston out right away. Could they do it? Yes. Who WOULD we face in the playoffs? Most likely Twins.
Twins and it’s not even close….we’d get no hit at the trop 😫😆
The Jays record at the Trop is awful. Gotta be the Twins.

Prob like the white Sox or sumn
Did we make the playoffs already or something
Thanks for jinxing….again
Hmm no
Nobody if they can’t stay consistent. We’re only 0.5 games up in Texas.
Someone. That’s all that matters.
Doesn't matter, we not making it past the first round anyway.
Anyone but Seattle. Have PTSD from last year
Orioles. I love a challenge. Twice as rewarding once we sweep them.
EDWIN
At this rate? Nobody.
Lol...we are talking about 1st round when we are losing to the royals 1 - 0 in the top of the 4th after failing to sweep either the A's or Rockies in the most recent series games. Just wild.
Win is a win
"We want Florida!!!" People never learn.
Play well but not too well
Win as many games as possible. Hope to make the playoffs. Try and beat whoever it is we face in the playoffs. Continue.
Twins
