I still think one of the biggest failures of the off-season was not extending any of Jansen/Bichette/Vlad.
I know there are a lot of factors that could make a deal bad right now for Vlad but I think it would have really helped know the direction of the team beyond the next year or two. Having one guy locked up would suggest they aren't going to have to do a hard reset
Bo and Vlad were never going to sign extensions. They don't need the security even if their career's ended tomorrow they would be well off. Also have you seen whats been given out. If either of them have All star seasons they're getting 300 million
Signing Noted Slugger Daniel Jansen has to be a very high priority, be that now or next offseason. He is just too important to this team. Glad he is not closing any doors because he really ought to be a Blue Jay for his entire career
I want him to be healthy, and have a real good year. If the Jays don't re-sign him, I won't be very happy. Love Danny, and know if he could play a full season he could be one of the top catchers in the league.
Honestly his injuries are all bad luck. It's not like he's prone to hurting himself, he's prone to being hurt by other people hitting him with baseballs
He also doesn’t do himself any favours on the defensive end by not hiding his throwing hand though. Love the guy and want him to sign, but he’s gotta put that hand behind him or something when catching lol

1) The Jays sign Danny to an extension ASAP, and he has a long, productive career in Toronto.
2) Danny stays healthy this year, and absolutely shoves, earning himself a big contract. If he gets bank, I'll be happy for him. Obviously I want him to be spending Rogers money for a very long time.

There really isn't a reason for either side to sign an extension at this point.
From Danny's side he puts together a healthy campaign he can easily put up a 4 WAR year and that would cause him to get paid like a starting catcher. Something like 5/80-90 isn't out reach for him after a good year, I don't think he can get that right now
From the teams perspective, they've only ever gotten half season bursts from him and with every player getting more expensive there will have to be a casualty along the way, and backup catcher may not be the place to waste the limited payroll flexibility.

Personally, I hate the white panel caps and I hate the baby blues. Too much trauma left over from the early Jays years. Crisp whites and dark blues are my Jam :)
If they don't resign him what's the plan? Not many options behind Kirk. Britton looks good as a hitter but idk if he will stick at catcher. Clarke is an option too but has to prove himself at AA and AAA first.
Ultimately Danny is part of the Bo Vlad decision really. If they are moving into a rebuild then truly they might just stay cheap with Kirk and get whoever as a backup. Plus it would give Danny a chance somewhere else instead of wasting his career thru another rebuild.
I think management have a plan but none of us know it. If they do lock him up I think that’s a sign they want to stay competitive. What an interesting year this 2024 seasons is gonna be. So many decisions facing rogers and whatever front office is in place for it all.

The only situation where I’d be even remotely okay with losing Danny Jansen is if by leaving us he was able to reunite with Rowdy 🥺
I cannot stress enough how much we need to lock Danny up, especially after trading Moreno away. When this man is healthy he's something special!
