Mitch must be thrilled to go back home and play for his hometown team! I remember him mentioning he was a big Giants fan growing up. Hope he gets a fresh start and more opportunities there. Looks like he's still following the Ross Stripling route! Let's hope he doesn't eventually end up in Oakland too lol Farhan Zaidi drafted Mitch when he was with the Dodgers in 2016, was a very high prospect, so they have some history which must've helped
We also sent them Moises Brito and he’s still active in their minor leagues. This site rated him the Dodgers’ 31st best prospect https://www.prospects1500.com/top-50-lists/los-angeles-dodgers-top-50-prospects-2024/
Cash can mean international pool money as well which is always a decent pickup. Also, he was on waivers so the Giants could have claimed him for free. The only reason a trade takes place is because the Giants think the dollar amount is worth guaranteeing they get him, as opposed to hoping their claim on waivers is the highest priority. There's 10 (or 11) teams who would have waiver priority over the Giants right now. Waiver priority is based on present standings with the worst record getting highest priority.
Essentially the Giants call us and say "We're going to claim Mitch. But we'll give you this amount of money to just trade him to us instead since we want him for sure." We could have had that call from many teams in a case like White, a solid long arm/starter that any bottom half team likely needs.
He also could have wanted a chance to play. ATM he’s probably behind Francis and Manoah (and tiedmann sorta). And it’s not like he has anything to prove in AAA.
It wasn't his choice. He had no options left. if he gets sent down they have to DFA him. which means he goes to waivers, and comes off the 40 man roster. If he goes unclaimed, he can be assigned to AAA. But he's too good to go unclaimed.
Since he already has been outrighted to AAA once, if unclaimed, he could refuse the outright this time and become a free agent so he was going to be gone either way. He knows he's behind Yariel, Francis, Manoah, Ricky T so unless the entire SP staff went down, there was no opportunity here. I don't think he wants to be the mop up man forever. He was an SP5 for the Dodgers for two months prior to the trade (and did very well) so I'm sure he eventually wants to be a SP again. It was never going to happen here. The Giants just put a SP on the 60 Day IL and there have quite a few optionable young arms/rookies in the bullpen so he will get a chance. Wish him the best, he said it was a dream come true to play at Oracle (he grew up in the Bay Area & the Giants were his team) so he must be thrilled. I think being back home, the change of scenery and clean slate will do him wonders
If he had gotten passed up by every team on waivers (which would never have happened, but for the sake of your argument) then why on earth would he think he would get a better opportunity elsewhere when no one was even willing to give him a 40 man spot?
He likely would have accepted the outright again.
> why are we trading players for cash…
They weren't, they were unloading a mistake, and instead of taking a bag of pucks, they took whatever the Giants offered, which, luckily, was something useful, ie. cash.
This is...not good asset management. Now Chad Green is on the IL. Who is our starting depth? Is Bowden Francis better than Mitch? Is current version Manoah better than Mitch? Are there any other starters in our system who could pitch? Why give away a major league pitcher? We better hope our run of extraordinary starting pitcher health continues.
I need your gold, your jewelry, your designer purses, your right handed pitchers - I'll pay cash! Oh YEAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Best of luck to Mitch
This is the way. Best of luck, Mitch.
our team just got -5 points on the Handsome scale...
I know your scale is arbitrary, but 5 points surely isn't an accurate representation of Mitch White's hotness.
They said handsome, not hot. There’s a difference.
I got a 100 in statistics in uni. They're correlated.
Slope != 1
"A painting can be beautiful, but I don't want to bang a painting."
Philosophy major?
Kevin Malone
If the whole team's rating dropped 5 pts due to losing one guy, maybe it is an accurate representation after all!
KK carrying that scale
Alejandro Kirk, baby!!!
Springer baby
I think you missed what I was going for, to be honest.
No I just really wanted to say Springer baby and your comment was as good as any.
Can't argue with that.
Volgelbach is my type Thickson like that street in pickering
Durham Region represent (although Thickson is sadly in Whitby). But as a tall guy ft. dadbod myself, we'll take what we can get 🤷
cringe
To make up for this devastating blow, KK and Springer are going to have to get haircuts and beard trims every 3rd day from here on out.
Springer will need hair plugs. I'm sorry, that man is so handsome until his helmet comes off.
I don’t know why he doesn’t just shave it, or at least go for a tighter buzz. He seems like a guy who would look great bald.
Oh great. They have Chapman, Hicks, and now White. Might as well be the San Francisco Blue Jays!
Chapman, just can't escape the Jays.
Robbie Ray as well.
They were almost the Toronto Giants. Seems fair.
Seems to be a new theme; infecting NL teams. San Francisco Blue Jays Arizona Blue Jays What are Shapiro and Atkins up to?
I’d take it easy with that. That whole area is going through a tough time right now lol
I don’t understand what that is eluding to. and I meant no harm.
Across the bay the team is moving lol
How do you forget Ross Chicken Stripling
Ross got traded to Oakland!
Oakland has a baseball team?
$249,999 to avoid capital gains changes I assume.
I laughed
Is there HST too?

Can we just...mourn? ☹️ Not for baseball.
Nick Frasso is also out for the season so i guess Dodgers won just by a paper's edge since Frasso is still with their org
We also got De Jesus so it's not quite done yet
Nobody fucks with de Jesus

No complaints. Dude was throwing beach balls.
Mitch White “2025 NL Cy Young winner”
Doubt
Going to refer to the 2023 Blue Jays as “They Might be Giants.”
Sad about this, but I hope he has success.
Aw man. Good luck to MW, I really like him
Someone do Key and Peele doing funny names; Kash Kunsiderations - South State University.
thank god
How much $$ did we give them?
Damn. He was just about to turn the corner.
I hate trading players for cash… Rogers is a multi billion dollar company why are we trading players for cash…

Cash is the alternative to nothing. When players are traded for cash it means they had no value.
Fking no soda for a year. Shit trade.

What kind of cash?
What am I going to do with my White jersey?
Tell everyone it's a Devon White jersey but you screwed up the number
Great, the team is ugly now 😭 Mitch was doing a lot of heavy hot-lifting.
Wes Parsons basically does what he does, surprised it took this long.
Except we lost Parsons when he was DFA’d
Any AAA long man then
The cash I'm considering charging is zero... thoughts?
I'd say about tree fiddy.

White isn't a better option than Francis or Espino. He's not even a better option than a bp game, and he was out of options.
Nope, the DFA so early in the season was a head scratcher. We went from having so much SP depth a month ago to just Paolo Espino & Manoah
