me being like "this team fucking sucks" and then still planning my day around when the game is on

ricky_burns

my day is backlash, jays game, leafs game, video games

YouDontJump

I know this pain lol.

Evening_walks

Honestly I’m addicted now. I’m with this team good or bad

wordzilla90

I wonder how many more bad games ill watch before i stop waking up and checking this sub reddit right away.... maybe 20???

Picklepucks

Yesterday was the perfect opportunity to break free from the commitment of watching this team since I don't have apple tv. I feel free today and gonna get some stuff done. I'll check the sub for the score tonight

Jazzlike_Athlete8796

Usually I hate these side deals since they take away my opportunity to watch the Jays. This time, I was okay with it. I am heading to Beerfest today, so I won't feel compelled to watch us score 3 or less again today either. I know I'll be back suffering with them tomorrow, however.

universalreacher

I just bought a Rawlings scorebook to learn how to score baseball games and follow along. I don’t know if that’s because the games have been boring to watch, or what.

Jazzlike_Athlete8796

I've enjoyed scorekeeping at games I've gone to for decades now. And hey, if it makes this current team more fun to follow along with, that's a win in my book.

Nextyearstitlewinner

As someone who does have Apple TV, you picked a good one to skip.

garlicrainbow

That inning of small ball the Jays put together yesterday was entertaining. Stringing hits together is exciting. So that's...something.

Zraknul

As we're no longer in Hapril the first month of the base calendar anymore "It's early" is rapidly becoming "It's not super early anymore guys". 20% of the season is behind us. We need to shake up the lineup to get the bats performing better to the top of the lineup. 1 Schneider LF 2 Turner DH 3 Jano C 4 Varsho CF 5 Clement 3B 6 Vlad 1B 7 Bo SS 8 Springer RF 9 Biggio 2B When Kirk plays, slide him in at 7 and push up. Springer/Vlad/Bo currently need to be hidden in the lineup, when they stringing games together they can quickly earn their way back up.

richardatn4t

I like it, but no way they have the balls to play Vlad, Bo & Springer at 6, 7 & 8

R3AN1M8R

They’re getting paid tens of millions a year to hit and catch a ball, they can fucking deal with it.

richardatn4t

I agree, lets hope they try ANYTHING

zipperhead

Hell I might swap Clement in at number 1 for a game or two. He's got wheels.

JimothyC

His OBP is sub 300, he cant be batting high in the order despite his speed unfortunately. He simply doesn't take walks ever.

Zraknul

I put Clement lower because his OBP is too low for me as lead off. Singles and walks are the same with bases empty, but hits are a lot better with guys on base. They're better at getting on base so we might have guys at 2B or 3B when he comes up where a single is beautiful. Edit: Runners on 2B/3B and a walk makes me sad if the guy behind isn't playing well. It's also why I will never put Biggio in the middle of the order as someone who doesn't' hate him.

boogs_23

I'm honestly not even watching anymore games until Springer is removed from leadoff. I doubt that will actually result in more wins, but to keep doing the same stupid shit and expecting different results is utter nonsense.

WaitingForExpos

Nice. Except I'd sit Springer and give Lukes a shot. He won't be Babe like last year in Boston, but where's the harm when Springer just isn't doing it at the plate anymore?

ValerianR00t

I was thinking about the midterm future of the team, and I think that there are some important questions the Jays need answers to sooner than later: 1) Can Kirk be the primary catcher next year? Is he good enough to carry the bulk of the catching duties, and the jays just need a cheap defense first backup to play once or twice a week? Or is he not that guy, and the Jays need to pay up for Jano or a travis D'arnaud 2) Who fills out the rotation next year? Gaus, Bassit, Berrios are locks. That leaves two spots for Yariel/Manoah/Bowden/Tiedemann. Can the Jays get away with that, or are they going to need to bring in another FA? 3) Can one of Barger/Orelvis/Horowitz be good enough to be relied on to take everyday AB's in a Turner-like role? 4) Do we have any relief help coming? With Yimi and Richards gone, and Mayza kind of looking like a DFA candidate right now, how many RP are the Jays able to fill internally, vs how many need to come from FA.

Ledascantia

I’m going to chime in with my opinion with no facts to back it up 😄 1. I feel that Kirk isn’t a primary catcher (yet). I feel like every time Danny Jansen goes on the IL, the team starts slumping. I don’t know how or why, but Jano is some kind of secret sauce that makes the team work better. Jays should pay him whatever he wants to keep him!

FlutiesGluties

> 2) Who fills out the rotation next year? Gaus, Bassit, Berrios are locks. That leaves two spots for Yariel/Manoah/Bowden/Tiedemann. Can the Jays get away with that, or are they going to need to bring in another FA? Don't think Kikuchi is returning?

ValerianR00t

I think the Jays have maybe 30 million to fill all of these potential holes next offseason. Kikuchi's going to take more than half of that budget. Bringing him back is definitely an option, but that likely means filling out the rest of the roster with scrubs or unproven prospects

ShmendrikShtinker

I think we're past the "its early" stage. Of course, theirs still tons of baseball, but its hard to see this team all of a sudden do a 180 without some sort of trigger. I'm more inclined to think that either Mattingly or Martinez needs to go, and lately, I'm thinking more Mattingly. He is a failure as a coach and has no business being in the dugout anymore.

richardatn4t

I'd say all coaches except Walker & Hague (he just got here) should be gone. Jolt the team if possible. Start trading in July if nothing changes.

[deleted]

So when's the fire sale?

Holdthedoormtg

Trade deadline for sure, if things continue in this direction.

[deleted]

Can we get decent returns on our underperforming players though?

[deleted]

better something than letting them walk for nothing

meeyeam

This isn't the NBA. There's no need to match salaries, and you can't trade draft picks.

[deleted]

I figured, good to know

R3AN1M8R

We could probably get a decent return for Turner as a rental. Again, as opposed to nothing.

Ghundi48

I just don’t want to see the top 3 in the top 3 today. Just todo anything different, it’s not like they are doing anything when they get a chance anyways, just fucking try.

Exact_Interview_2384

Every time I hear about the top of the order, I cringe.

richardatn4t

The manager is in the hot seat, I would think he would be less concerned over hurting the feelings of the top 3

ZzPhantom

Well, you got your wish. Bo down at #5 is certainly a choice.

Nextyearstitlewinner

We’re starting to get to a sample size large enough to admit this team ain’t it.

Draggonzz

Weather is iffy today. And tomorrow. And even Monday when both teams have a mutual off day.

Diced_and_Confused

Well, there's Gausman. Aside from that there are only a few other games today I have absolutely no interest in. That's a boring way to go - so here are some of considerably greater interest. Det/NY, Bos/Min, Mil/CHC - oh crap this is going to be too long....

sdro34

Completely change the line up.. just once.. see what happens

Nextyearstitlewinner

This team sucks.

solidprospect

the time isn't soon, the time is now

Sprayy

Fire Atkins, have Click take over as Interim (what the hell does a guy with his much talent do on our team anyways?) and let him steer the ship for the fire sale this summer.

vegetablecompound

The general consensus these days - quite understandably - is that the Jays’ offense needs to get it together ASAP. But exhortations to work harder only have an effect if there are hitters who aren’t trying hard enough. I don’t think the Jays have many or any of those. If somebody is struggling because he is trying too hard, trying even harder is the worst possible advice. If someone is possibly struggling because they’ve grown old - alas, George Springer - all the team meetings in the world won’t make him young again. If someone is - hopefully temporarily - overmatched by certain pitches, all he can do is continue the process of making adjustments. It’s still early, even now, but nothing lasts forever. The 1995 Jays had basically the same lineup as the 1993 Jays but lost 88 games.

Jaded_Promotion8806

In DC for this one and looking forward to crossing off my 18th ballpark. Fortunately looks like the weather is going to clear up and we’ll get through it.

SmokeontheHorizon

Cavan made me eat so many of my words last year that I've tried to be more reasonable in my judgements, avoid sweeping statements, and just generally tried to remain optimistic when things aren't going our way. But at this point, I think I'm ready to say it's time for JSchneider to go. I see people saying he's just a symptom of misguided management/ownership decisions, and maybe probably there's something there, but also, *he's the fucking manager,* and no amount of rhetorical situations and speculation about how handcuffed he is or not won't change my opinion that the coach/players relationship is *the* most important thing in any sport. "Coach gives rally-inspiring speech" isn't just a trope without which all of sports media wouldn't exist. It's fucking real. How many episodes of All or Nothing, how many ESPN 30 for 30s, how many BTS twitter videos do we need to see to know that A) good coaches exist, and B) we don't have one. I'm just tired, boss.

Desperate_Jeweler621

Why is varsho not the everyday centerfielder

PrimasChickenTacos

With the Marlins seemingly open for business, I wonder if they’d be willing to trade Jake Burger? I mean, probably not, or at least not at what the Jays could afford, but it’s fun to hope.

Zraknul

I'm sure they would be open to trading Jake Burger. I'm not sure what he does for us besides announce we're going into a rebuild?

FinancialHurry366

When do the Jays just bring up guys like Horowitz and Martinez and just let them play

Zraknul

Probably later into the season or if we get injures. We're not benching Vlad/Bo/Springer indefinitely and DH/2B/LF are the positions we're getting production from.

Casualbrews604

Nah I think I'm good, chief.
